    LocoMoco

Kitchen Aloha is pretty close to my apartment, so I stopped by in the afternoon to finally satisfy a loco moco craving I'd been having all week. This spot is family owned, and while they do have a few tables inside, most of the dining area is currently blocked off. It seems like they focus more on takeout, which worked out fine for me. Ordering was easy through their self-service kiosk, and my food was ready fairly quickly. I went with the loco moco. It was just okay for me--not bad, but probably not something I'd come back for. The portion size was decent for the price, and it came with rice, one beef patty, half a hot dog, and a couple slices of seasoned spam, all topped with a light teriyaki-style glaze. The spam was actually really tasty and seasoned well, which made me think their spam musubis are probably worth trying. The egg on top was cooked all the way through, and I wish there was an option to customize it to over easy or sunny side up. The gravy on the side didn't have much flavor, so I ended up skipping it, but the rice underneath was cooked nicely and not dry. While waiting, I noticed a lot of people ordering poke bowls and daily specials, which might be what they're more known for. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, which added to the overall positive experience. I'd come back to try something else next time, probably one of the specials or a musubi. Good spot for quick Hawaiian comfort food, especially if you live nearby.

I love when a tonkatsu place can fry the pork up with a crispy panko coating although it would be great if the pork cuts were a little thicker but at these prices and this location it's understandable. The flavors are on point and very familiar and would like to try the bbq options next time. It is a little sad to think of Philz where I used to look out the same window at the feet walking by but good to see another business in its place and to have a Japanese influenced place around this area. I'm still getting used to the touch panel so made a mistake and had to start all over but because it was before noon, there was no line to worry about. Thanks for the food and gochisousama deshita.

Bento with unagi and avocado roll with pork ribs. Great prices!

This Hawaiian Japanese spot really hit it out of the park for me. I like Japanese food, but honestly it can be expensive and a little fussy. Silly me. I should have checked out Kitchen Aloha sooner. It's a great place for a hearty lunch at a good price. There's not much ambiance tbh, though it's cute and clean. You can technically eat there I think? Basically you walk up, order and pay through a digital kiosk, and someone calls you to pick up your food from a counter. Maybe that's how they keep costs low. I got a highly customizable bento that included brown rice (no extra charge), an unagi and avocado roll, meaty pork baby back ribs on steamed veggies, a small salad, and a cup of miso soup for about $15. All delicious. This is a hard deal to beat for a substantial hot meal.

Kitchen Aloha is perfect for a grab-and-go lunch when you're craving something quick but delicious. I got the crunchy musubi and Thai tea--both were straight gas The musubi had the best crispy texture and flavor, and the Thai tea was icy, sweet, and exactly what I needed to top it off. Service is pretty minimal--just order and dip--and there's not much in the way of ambiance, but it totally works for a casual lunch run. Not mad at it at all. Definitely coming back to try more

I pass by frequently and finally decided to give this place a try. It's a hole in the wall with a self-service tablet, visible menus, and limited seating. There was a special on the spicy ahi poke so I figured that's a great choice for a quick snack. It was deceitful and disappointing! The portion I ordered was a large and the only thing large about it was the container. For $2 more I could've ordered a poke bowl. I won't be going back based on this experience. The special was not a special, just false advertising.

This place is perfectly fine for a quick meal. Nothing I'd go out of my way for it. Their Poké bowls are OK don't get the salmon roll bowl get the Aji tuna bowl. They also have lots of spam musubi variations that are OK as well.

Cute hole in the wall spot for some Japanese, Hawaiian, and Asian fusion dishes. I intern nearby and am so lucky to have stumbled upon this place. I got the spicy tuna bowl today, and it was delicious and packed full with spicy ground tuna, rice, side salad with a yummy dressing, and a variety other toppings that I can't quite remember exactly but you can spot in a picture I included of the dish. I definitely am looking forward to trying their special seafood poke bowl for only $12.50. Honestly, any spot that has seafood and is below $20 is a steal for me, so if this is also right up your alley you know what to do and immediately give this place a try! You can also dine in as the spot is on the smaller side but the seating is cozy and the workers were kind and took their time in crafting a great meal!

an enjoyable, small spot in san francisco, i decided to give Kitchen Aloha a try since i was in the mood for chicken teriyaki. you can find street parking by the restaurant; the ambiance was nice and slow for a Thursday night. the staff was nice, and they also recommended their spam musubi. it was a great Hawaiian / SF fusion experience! chicken teriyaki plate (7.9/10) nicely assorted plate, with spectacular flavor to the chicken, a good traditional cali roll, and veggies. brown rice was too bland for my taste spam musubi (9.3/10) amazing musubi, well made and generous with portion

4.5 rounded up. I like the spam musubi offerings and the handrolls. The pork tonkatsu is a bit greasy but I enjoy the mac salad. For some reason, the sushi doesn't sing as much to me. I tried one of the soups and it was crazy affordable, but now the price has jumped up a few dollars.

My coworker and I ate here yesterday for lunch together for the very first time. I agreed to come here because he had highly recommended it. I was surprised at how small and cozy it was in this restaurant. The server was very friendly and helpful when helping me in what to order. The pot of very hot tea was very nice. Although the size of the Beef Patty LocoMoco that I ordered was smaller than I expected, it was still satisfying, but the beef patty was a little over cooked. The macaroni salad was very soft and moist and the eggs were well prepared. My coworker enjoyed the Bento Box he ordered and we both liked the order of Fried Soft Shell Crab that we shared. If I come back here, I really want to try one of their Poke Bowls.

Nice little restaurant. My friends had an urge for some masubi. Found this place near city hall. Service was relatively quick. It was after the lunch rush and was able to sit easily. I had the tuna bowl and the spicy spam masubi. Both were tasty and cost less than $25. It definitely was just as good as most places I have gone to. I would come again but I would not make a special trip here.

Stopped by here for lunch on a rainy day after spending time at city hall. It's tiny with three or four tables but the food was great and filling. I got the ahi tuna bowl and the breakfast musibi and they did not disappoint. The spam in the musibi was sandwiched between the soft rice and had the right amount of savory sauce with each bite. The tuna bowl was huge! The portions to rice ratio was a good amount where I had more toppings than rice. If you want to dine in a small place with a few friends, this place will be your spot.

Chicken Teriyaki bowl, chirashi bowl, unagi avo hand roll

Ordered delivery via Uber Eats and enjoyed our meal: - Chicken teriyaki bowl (3.5/5): Not overly saucy which I like, chicken pieces were tasty not too dry, rice was decent. Wish it came with more veges - only 1 piece of small broccoli and two small slices of carrots. Overall smaller portion. See pic attached. - Chirashi bowl (3.5/5): Advertised as 10 pieces but only came with 8 pieces of fish (2x salmon, 2x tuna, 2x hamachi and 2x another white fish). Lettuce and everything else was ok, nothing mind blowing but wasn't terrible. Fish was ok quality, some of the white fish didn't taste great. - Unagi avo hand roll (5/5): Amazing, good portion of eel, would definitely get again. Next time I'd be inclined to just order a bunch of different hand rolls at $4-5 each.

Hidden fees on their website, they quote one price then add fees when you pick up. Not listed anywhere. Then they argue about it.

The fish was so fresh and melted in my mouth. I highly recommend getting the tasting to try out different pieces. We also ordered the snow mountain roll which included white tuna. I also enjoyed this role. Everything paired really well together. The Gyoza was also tastier than I was expecting. Super crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The koueigiku sake paired so well with all the food. Super smooth, sweet and went down easily. It was $24 per glass, which was on the pricier side but worth it.

The oysters, uni amaebi donburi (Sea Urchin & Raw Shrimp Rice Bowl), Tom Kha Ceviche, and the chicken egg salad sandwich. The bites were truly so decadent, balanced, and well-executed. The oysters were fresh, plump, and perfectly topped with sweet and citrusy flavors. The bite of the night was the uni amaebi bowl. They load you up on sea urchin, shrimp, and roe. It is bursting with flavor, and paired with PERFECTLY COOKED RICE.  The drinks were also amazing! I got the matcha cocktail and the espresso martini. I mean... phenomenal. Everyone wants to do a matcha cocktail, but I don't think a single bar program is going to put one out as perfect as Shoji's. It's delicate and earthy, and the perfect drink to pair with their menu.  Dessert was also good! Tea-based affogatos. They're fun. Ugh, I want to live in SF just so I can frequent Shoji. Between the four of us, we ordered the yellowtail sashimi, Japanese style fried chicken, chef's selection of seven sashimi, a Wagyu New York strip with mushroom ponzu butter sauce, a yuzu miso marinated black cod, a side of bone marrow with sweet garlic soy and a Japanese mushroom rice hot pot. Before jumping into the food, I wanted to quickly call out some highlights from our service for the night. I thought the pacing of the dishes was good, it was thoughtful that our server had written down which specific seat ordered which cocktail, I appreciate that our waiter waited for our last guest to arrive before going over the menu, and I liked that we received clean plates at some point during the meal, and the table was cleaned off before dessert. The small details matter! Of the dishes we ordered, the miso marinated black cod was by far my favorite dish. Compared to the cod at Nobu, the one here is not as sweet, nor as charred, but that's not a knock at all -- it's just different. The flakiness of the fish really demonstrates how carefully and skillfully the fish had been prepared and cooked. If there's one dish you have to order while you're here, it has to be the fish. Another item I really enjoyed was the Japanese style fried chicken. This item reminded me of really well-made popcorn chicken: the thigh meat was tender and juicy, the pieces were lightly battered yet still really crispy, and the chicken was well-seasoned. I thought the weakest dish was actually the most expensive dish: the Wagyu New York. The steak was cooked nicely and I enjoyed the mushrooms that were garnished on top, but the ponzu butter sauce was a bit lacking -- a lot lighter than I thought, and the entire dish desperately needed some finishing salt. From the small dessert menu, the only item that caught our group's attention was the Japanese style strawberry cheesecake. Unfortunately, this cheesecake was a miss for everyone in the group, leaving our last bites a bit disappointing. The cheesecake had a texture that was spongy and almost too soft, almost similar to what you'd experience biting into a soaked strawberry shortcake dessert. Overall, Roka Akor had some hits and some misses. If you're in charge of booking a large corporate dinner, Roka Akor definitely fits the bill, since we say many such groups here during our time here. If you're looking for an intimate date night, you also might want to look elsewhere, since the volume here gets uncomfortably loud to talk without having to yell a bit. However, if you're looking for a spot to fill that very niche mid-week splurge with friends or co-workers, Roka Akor is a good option.

The beautifully presented board comes with katsu in your choice of salmon, tuna, crab, or roe, paired with the creamiest delicious tamago I've ever had, carrot & purple slaw, miso soup and potato salad topped with a delicately carved carrot in the shape of the letter "B". And to finish, chocolate mochi rounds out the meal. The only thing I'm upset about is I forgot to take a photo of how nice the brunch set looks before I ate it. I was too excited! But I'm sure other Yelpers will pick up my slack. In addition to the brunch set, I tried the matcha latte made with oat milk. I'm not a big fan of milky drinks but thought I'd give it a try anyway. Whoa! That was my initial reaction. I would go back here just to get the matcha latte. It's really that good! And the service was impeccable. Kind, attentive, informative. I think we could all use a little Bon Nene in our life.

My party of 4 was seated right away on a Thursday evening around 7:30pm. Small cozy restaurant with…read morefantastic ambience. We shared the yaki onigiri, chicken karaage, original mushroom potstickers, katsu curry rice, and the mentaiko spaghetti. Our favorite was definitely the mentaiko spaghetti - it was the highlight of the meal. Flavorful, hearty, and unique. The chicken karaage was also pretty good and came with a delicious spicy mayo, though the chicken wasn't as warm as I'd hoped. Yaki onigiri was good as well, the soy sauce flavored rice had good flavor but I personally would've preferred a filling inside. Original mushroom potstickers and katsu curry rice were both skips from me. The potstickers didn't have that much flavor to me, and they were really flimsy and fell apart upon picking up. I had higher expectations for the katsu curry rice as well but maybe it was an off day, as the chicken was dry and stringy and the curry didn't have the classic rich/deep flavor I was expecting. Overall glad I got to try Bon, Nene once! Definitely worth trying the mentaiko spaghetti here.

What an experience! We were celebrating an anniversary and planned a bit last minute, but were able…read moreto snag a reservation here pretty easily. Immediately, the ambiance and service was quite nice. We were seated at the table, but typically I enjoy sitting at the bar to watch the chefs make our food. The service was amazing and they were very attentive. They also offered to take photos and gave us a little gift of hojicha tea since we were celebrating. We got the omakase, which was massive and had 18 courses. They gave us a menu so we knew what to expect for each course, and we ordered some sake. The omakase was delicious and more traditional than other places, each course was so beautiful and delicately made. This is definitely a lot of food, I would recommend the petite omakase in the future as I was stuffed, but it was a great experience if you come hungry! Courses: - Chawan-mushi - super tasty and every bite was delicious and umami forward! - Otsumami - 7 seasonal appetizers presented in a beautiful box, there was a stuffed crab claw in there that was delicious - 4 kinds of sushi - each piece came out one at a time, the first piece was my absolute favorite and blew me away, it was a seared chutoro that immediately melts in your mouth and tastes smokey - Hamachi soup - very tasty and warming soup with hamachi inside, was perfect in between the sushi course - 4 kinds of sushi - A5 Waguyu shabu - this course was extra $10 pp but was so delicious, the wagyu was melt in your mouth and had some grated daikon on top in a ponzu dashi, the toppings help balance the meat so it's overwhelming since it does melt in your mouth, one of my favorite bites! - 4 kind of sushi - they brought out some really great sushis, including more chutoro and an unagi handroll, but I was so stuffed at this point that I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much - miso soup - this soup was so tasty and kind of revived me after all that food, it felt comforting and a great way to end - dessert- I got the hojicha ice cream in a waffle like cookie and it was delicious!

WOW!!! That's it,…read morethat's the review. No, but in all seriousness, I visited Kusakabe for the 18 course Omakase (my first) and it was such a fantastic experience. Our server was so attentive and thoughtful and really helped make the entire experience so much fun. This was also some of - if not the best - sushi I have ever had. Everything was extremely fresh and the fish melted like butter in my mouth. Every course was extremely flavorful and just truly deliberate; there was a story behind everything. They also have a really great sake list and our server recommended delicious pairings that went well with each course. I genuinely cannot wait to go back and experience another Omakase here!
