** The following review reflects my takeout experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** I barely noticed it as I was walking up Van Ness even though there's a Grand Opening sign and twinkle lights in the window. I guess the pandemic has forced me to focus on oncoming people on the sidewalk rather than the small businesses struggling to survive. I applaud anyone with the temerity to open a new eatery during this trying time. Indeed this is a new spot providing takeout and delivery of Hawaiian-style grub. There's no saimin - though they have ramen. No loco moco, no kalua pig. But yes on poke bowls, sushi rolls and spam musubi. Zippy's it ain't. What I did go for was the $14.95 Raw Seafood Bowl - their term for poke- though it was served in a three-compartment tray like a TV dinner, not a bowl. I asked for a salad instead of rice, so they obliged by using the main space for that. The fresh ahi tuna poke was in the smaller space, and the imitation crab meat and pickled vegetables were put in the third spot (photo). The overall combination worked well, and I added a $5.95 side of Yakitori Skewers for a bit more savory sweetness in my meal (photo). Glad I found it, but I think they probably need an Elvis impersonator sing "Rock-a-Hula Baby" on the sidewalk to draw in more customers. Wear a mask, King. I ordered Spicy Beef Udon and got a nasty bowl of broth, barely any beef, 2 pieces of broccoli and SPAGHETTI noodles! I am embarrassed for this establishment. Will not ever go back, buyer beware. read more

Secondly upon finishing and having to use the bathroom 8 was was told no restroom was available. The food was good. The service was good but there were no customers for obvious reasons. I knew,something was off. Per city code any restaurant built after 1973 must have public restrooms for customers. They opened after 1973. A complaint was made with the city re: lack of restrooms. Ordered from the kiosk once I got there. I was 12:13p but not many people in front of me. I ordered a build your own Poke bowl and an order of spam musubi. Mind you there were maybe 3 people ahead of me waiting for their order. I waited over 25mins for a to-go order while 3 people who ordered after me got their orders first!! I didn't even have rice in my poke bowl, I got mixed greens instead so you'd think it would take less time. Nope!! I had to be back at work with maybe 20mins to spare and have enough time to eat. Once I finally got my order, I knew I didn't have much time to eat so I snacked on the musubis hoping they would sustain me. They didn't... the spam was oddly "sandwiched" between flimsy rice and nori while being held all together by parchment paper and tape. As soon as you bit into it, it completely fell apart. The rice was also drenched in sauce so it was so sweet that it was almost disgusting. I didn't even look at the poke bowl because I didn't have time to get to it. Absolutely the most quality regular Hawaiian spot I've been to in SF. Very unassuming and in a spot you wouldn't guess but I was really loving the food. We got the oG spam musubi to start and it was very well made with the right proportions. The crumbly musubi was the scene stealer with Sriracha , fried spam and rice. My ahi poke bowl was completely filling and delicious. Really loved our food and even though I'm in the sunset would trek out. Prices were so reasonable. Simply delicious mixture of Hawaiian and Japanese dishes. Love that I can choose both, Spam Musubi which they have three kinds, Poke bowls they have those as well with all the fixins. Then add Philly rolls and dragon and baked rolls etc. I order a DoorDash for pickup everything was packaged well, all hot and fresh after delivery. I consider it importance since many places lack the care to package to go items and once received are disorganized, missing utensils, condiments or even side orders. The Poke bowl was amazing with green onions, seaweed salad, edamame, greens, ginger with spices and filled to the brim. Rolls where amazing and we'll packaged. The miso soup was just ok, too. - HIGHLIGHT: I highly recommend the shoyu ahi tuna rice poke bowl! The rice was so fresh, chewy, and somewhat sticky in texture. The poke was beautifully marinated with just the right amount of sauce, and it gave a tasty flavor to the rice. I love all the side components as well - the surimi, roe, seaweed, chips, and salad. Ordered take out at the kiosk on August 21, 2024. They're usually good for a fast (when you pre-order), filling and nutritious lunch. I'm giving them a "could have been better" rating for this meal because the avocado slices were rotten. This was a group order for the office on DoorDash and it was nice to see that they nicely wrapped and labeled everything. Food was delicious! Prices were very reasonable. The seating was very limited however and restaurant was crowded with random items.

First of all, I admit I am a poke snob. Growing up in Hawai'i, nothing beats the poke there, the quality of the fish is unparalleled. I tried the spicy tuna poke bowl for lunch. I want to give props to the quality/taste of the sushi rice, and the freshness of the salad and seaweed salad and the imitation crab thing going on. The quality of the fish was alright. The taste, also ok. I think I'll try some of the other menu items in the future, but if you just want to eat something healthy for lunch this is a fair option. read more

The food was good I pre a watermelon drink it was refreshing after have a lot of coffee all day. It's a quiet restaurant I seen most people get a pick up order or to go . This gem is in the lobby of my building. They make great sushi, ramen and custom orders. I especially like the spicy tuna plate which comes with rice, salad and I add the tempura shrimp. Fresh and delicious. Of course having it in the building is a real plus as well. read more

It was sort of a mix of a chirashi and a mainland poke bowl (wakame, edamame, etc) which worked well enough. This is a quality poke bowl spot! The raw ahi tuna was great, but most notably, their rice is FRESH and high-quality: true sticky sushi rice with that subtle vinegar tang, and not freezing cold and hard like it is at too many poke places. It's *cool,* just the perfect texture and refreshing temperature to compliment the raw fish. I also ordered the "Cheetos spam musubi" out of curiosity! Sadly, it didn't feature actual cheetos crumbles like I imagined it would, so I do wish they'd change the name. But I'm not docking a star for that because it ended up being a fascinating and delicious concoction anyway, kind of a cheesy-baked spam katsu situation, drizzled with great sauces. read more

I walked by this place all the time and didn't even realize it was there and will definitely be coming back probably on a weekly basis just for their poke bowl and spam MUSUBI!!! So fresh and so tasty. I'm from Hawaii and I can tell you that this little gem is going to be a staple of mine and my friends from now on. Not only did I receive service that was organized clean and friendly but got a great big smile I could even tell she was smiling under her mask. When I got my take-out order home I have course was wary because I've had grown up with Hawaiian and Asian cuisine my whole life and when I bit into my first bite of Wakame seaweed it was like home. Then the roe and ahi tuna, delicious. Musubi was perfect ratio of Spam to rice with Nori ! I want to say thank you for staying open during this difficult time and I cannot wait to come back. I was stoked to order from here because of the rating and photos looked great! But it definitely wasn't. I ordered through Uber Eats and was really excited for the spam musubis, Katsu + tempura plate and a side of macaroni salad. I got my order and everything visually looked great. I went to dig into the musubi and its wrapped and TAPED like a christmas gift. So, as I'm taking the tape off, the musubi is just falling apart. I finally take a bite and its SO citrusy its hard to keep eating. I start getting into my plate and the tempura was all soggy which is whatever I understood that I ordered delivery. But, I took a bite into the tempura and I kid you not, my mouth was just filled with oil. It was so nasty and hard to bare. The texture of the shrimp inside was weird and mushy - stopped eating and lost my appetite. I thought to myself, ok, lets try the macaroni salad (one of my fave sides) and I open the tiny, sad container and take a bite and wow. Bland. 100% zero salt. Barely any pepper. Watery weird no flavor mayo. I really never have to leave bad reviews on food and its so wild that this place has 4.5 stars because this place is one of the worst places that I've experienced. The spicy poke tastes pretty fresh and it is a relatively big portion. They are pretty quick to order and prepare the food. The staff are friendly! I'm a pescatarian but don't eat raw seafood so my options here are limited. I only order at night and only order with seafood. I've tried the California roll, prawn udon, salmon and prawn bento box and so far, they kinda lack flavor to me for an asian restaurant. I think it would be a big difference if they put twice the amount of seasonings on food... at least to those I mentioned above. Cute little Asian Hawaiian restaurant that my son ate at all summer long while doing an internship in SF. Decided to try it before going to a concert and my gf and I asked if we could sit there to eat quickly (dining closed at dinner time) but we didn't know where else to go and the owner accommodated our request which was so sweet. We tried their bento box with chicken wings, salmon teriyaki and unagi roll and an order of spam and egg musubi (which my son loved) and it was really tasty. Pork Katsu is so thin I couldn't tell if there was actual meat in it. Sauces were trash. Rice was trash. Good pork katsu is crispy on the outside, but thick, tender, and juicy on the inside. The pork katsu here is the complete opposite of that. read more

Not sure if we just had some bad luck but for sure we will come back. We could only eat 50% of our food as it was very bad. The chicken teriyaki tasted horrible, my wife kalbi was average and her rice was old and uncooked, she barely touched it. Probably better to tell us that there were no more rice rather than serving old uncooked one. Might have been the last batch. Battered and fried spam, with a spicy Mayo and generous size. 2 for $6 and DELISH. Makes me want to try their other masubis. Walking the dog at around 9 pm and I ran into this little hole in the wall Hawaiian Japanese restaurant. It reminded me of those similar looking take out places in Waikiki. We already ate but got some snacks. My 12 year old daughter had the Spam Musubi, her response said it best: "we gotta go back to that place!" I had a $3 Hamachi and Cucumber Hand Roll that I forgot to take a picture because I ate it so fast. My daughter had edamame and it hit the snack spot perfectly. Had a craving for poké and google directed me to this spot. Quick and tasty would return if I were in the area. Only downside would be the poor ventilation in the store (they had the door open to let air circulate, totally complying with safety standards - masks, social distancing, etc). But with COVID and no dine-in service, that shouldn't be an issue. read more
