Not bad for the prices posted! I got the food to go since I'm down here for work. Ambiance is nice as it's clean and located in a decent area. Service seems fine. Standard service it seems. I ordered chicken katsu curry and a spicy salmon handroll. Chicken katsu was not headed but cubed chicken breast. Still tasty but not katsu. Roll was pretty tasty and better than the curry. My only thing is that they were working on a large order and the guy delivering was hanging out. One of the guys preparing the food told the delivery guy that the order was huge. It was very large! However, my order was a handroll and the katsu wasn't fried or even battered... it was good but not waiting for 20 minutes while trying to rush to get food lol. I don't normally care if it takes a while to get food out, but the food was good, not great. The prices are fantastic and I'll definitely come back but maybe not come here if you only have half an hour or an hour for lunch. I'll give it another try and see if there are other dishes that'll make it a 4/5!
Was at work and looking for a place with a reasonably priced lunch special and came across Kitchen Aloha. I'm surprised I've never noticed it because I go to the place Nextdoor. I walked in and they had different signage for lunch specials. I chose the Beef GyuDon over rice. $9.95. They had other options as well. You have to place your order at the kiosk. It was easy to navigate. You can also grab condiments while waiting. They have signage telling you to do so. Beef GyuDon: 8/10. It was cooked very well. Seasoned and tender. Just wish it had a little spice to it. Was kinda sweet. I added Sriracha and it made it a 10/10. I would definitely go back to try other items. It's a small but clean. If you're going too fast you may miss it.
Underwhelming poke in the Tenderloin. Based on the appearance of the bowl, I was expecting bright and fresh flavors, but looks are deceiving. I was disappointed to find the bowl very bland and flavorless. It felt dry. The only sauce was mixed with the salmon pieces and didn't really taste like anything. This left the rest of the bowl lacking flavor and having dry rice. It seems like they just threw in a bunch of random ingredients to take up space in the bowl. I mean, carrots and tortilla strips are definitely interesting choices for a poke bowl. The portion was relatively small for what you pay. The amount of avocado given was just sad. You also aren't able to make adjustments to add other things to the bowl - you're stuck with what is set in the description. For this spot being a very small hole in the wall, I thought I would be noticed and assisted quickly. I was the only person in there but had to wait an unreasonably long time to get my order. I placed the order online long before I walked to the restaurant during my lunch break. When I got there, I sat waiting for probably 10 or so minutes before someone even came out from the back to hand me my food. Maybe their other menu items are better, but I wouldn't recommend Kitchen Aloha for their poke bowls.
Came here for a 12 dollar poke bowl lunch special. It was a great deal for a good amount of food. I loved that adding avocado wasn't an additional charge as long as you included it in the five veggies.
Kitchen Aloha is pretty close to my apartment, so I stopped by in the afternoon to finally satisfy a loco moco craving I'd been having all week. This spot is family owned, and while they do have a few tables inside, most of the dining area is currently blocked off. It seems like they focus more on takeout, which worked out fine for me. Ordering was easy through their self-service kiosk, and my food was ready fairly quickly. I went with the loco moco. It was just okay for me--not bad, but probably not something I'd come back for. The portion size was decent for the price, and it came with rice, one beef patty, half a hot dog, and a couple slices of seasoned spam, all topped with a light teriyaki-style glaze. The spam was actually really tasty and seasoned well, which made me think their spam musubis are probably worth trying. The egg on top was cooked all the way through, and I wish there was an option to customize it to over easy or sunny side up. The gravy on the side didn't have much flavor, so I ended up skipping it, but the rice underneath was cooked nicely and not dry. While waiting, I noticed a lot of people ordering poke bowls and daily specials, which might be what they're more known for. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, which added to the overall positive experience. I'd come back to try something else next time, probably one of the specials or a musubi. Good spot for quick Hawaiian comfort food, especially if you live nearby.
I love when a tonkatsu place can fry the pork up with a crispy panko coating although it would be great if the pork cuts were a little thicker but at these prices and this location it's understandable. The flavors are on point and very familiar and would like to try the bbq options next time. It is a little sad to think of Philz where I used to look out the same window at the feet walking by but good to see another business in its place and to have a Japanese influenced place around this area. I'm still getting used to the touch panel so made a mistake and had to start all over but because it was before noon, there was no line to worry about. Thanks for the food and gochisousama deshita.
This Hawaiian Japanese spot really hit it out of the park for me. I like Japanese food, but honestly it can be expensive and a little fussy. Silly me. I should have checked out Kitchen Aloha sooner. It's a great place for a hearty lunch at a good price. There's not much ambiance tbh, though it's cute and clean. You can technically eat there I think? Basically you walk up, order and pay through a digital kiosk, and someone calls you to pick up your food from a counter. Maybe that's how they keep costs low. I got a highly customizable bento that included brown rice (no extra charge), an unagi and avocado roll, meaty pork baby back ribs on steamed veggies, a small salad, and a cup of miso soup for about $15. All delicious. This is a hard deal to beat for a substantial hot meal.
Kitchen Aloha is perfect for a grab-and-go lunch when you're craving something quick but delicious. I got the crunchy musubi and Thai tea--both were straight gas The musubi had the best crispy texture and flavor, and the Thai tea was icy, sweet, and exactly what I needed to top it off. Service is pretty minimal--just order and dip--and there's not much in the way of ambiance, but it totally works for a casual lunch run. Not mad at it at all. Definitely coming back to try more
I pass by frequently and finally decided to give this place a try. It's a hole in the wall with a self-service tablet, visible menus, and limited seating. There was a special on the spicy ahi poke so I figured that's a great choice for a quick snack. It was deceitful and disappointing! The portion I ordered was a large and the only thing large about it was the container. For $2 more I could've ordered a poke bowl. I won't be going back based on this experience. The special was not a special, just false advertising.
This place is perfectly fine for a quick meal. Nothing I'd go out of my way for it. Their Poké bowls are OK don't get the salmon roll bowl get the Aji tuna bowl. They also have lots of spam musubi variations that are OK as well.
Cute hole in the wall spot for some Japanese, Hawaiian, and Asian fusion dishes. I intern nearby and am so lucky to have stumbled upon this place. I got the spicy tuna bowl today, and it was delicious and packed full with spicy ground tuna, rice, side salad with a yummy dressing, and a variety other toppings that I can't quite remember exactly but you can spot in a picture I included of the dish. I definitely am looking forward to trying their special seafood poke bowl for only $12.50. Honestly, any spot that has seafood and is below $20 is a steal for me, so if this is also right up your alley you know what to do and immediately give this place a try! You can also dine in as the spot is on the smaller side but the seating is cozy and the workers were kind and took their time in crafting a great meal!
an enjoyable, small spot in san francisco, i decided to give Kitchen Aloha a try since i was in the mood for chicken teriyaki. you can find street parking by the restaurant; the ambiance was nice and slow for a Thursday night. the staff was nice, and they also recommended their spam musubi. it was a great Hawaiian / SF fusion experience! chicken teriyaki plate (7.9/10) nicely assorted plate, with spectacular flavor to the chicken, a good traditional cali roll, and veggies. brown rice was too bland for my taste spam musubi (9.3/10) amazing musubi, well made and generous with portion
4.5 rounded up. I like the spam musubi offerings and the handrolls. The pork tonkatsu is a bit greasy but I enjoy the mac salad. For some reason, the sushi doesn't sing as much to me. I tried one of the soups and it was crazy affordable, but now the price has jumped up a few dollars.

Absolutely delicious food. We had to wait a bit but that is because they make everything fresh and the wait was so worth it! The place is a small hole-in-the-wall - not a ton of seating. The staff is very friendly and works hard to make sure you have a good experience. Would definitely come back again! read more
3.5 I'd say. Food can take a while so just fair warning. Might be better to order ahead whether dining in or out. Seemed like people were getting it picked up. I had ordered the ramen with pork, and unagi handroll. The temp for the ramen was decent though as with most places I'd like it to be hotter. The unagi handroll was good though. Compatriots seemed pretty happy with the food there. I think it worked pretty well except for the wait itself. Despite a small space, it made it hard to pay for the bill. Seemed almost shorthanded. Good for what it was though it took much longer than anticipated. read more
** The following review reflects my takeout experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** I barely noticed it as I was walking up Van Ness even though there's a Grand Opening sign and twinkle lights in the window. I guess the pandemic has forced me to focus on oncoming people on the sidewalk rather than the small businesses struggling to survive. I applaud anyone with the temerity to open a new eatery during this trying time. Indeed this is a new spot providing takeout and delivery of Hawaiian-style grub. There's no saimin - though they have ramen. No loco moco, no kalua pig. But yes on poke bowls, sushi rolls and spam musubi. Zippy's it ain't. What I did go for was the $14.95 Raw Seafood Bowl - their term for poke- though it was served in a three-compartment tray like a TV dinner, not a bowl. I asked for a salad instead of rice, so they obliged by using the main space for that. The fresh ahi tuna poke was in the smaller space, and the imitation crab meat and pickled vegetables were put in the third spot (photo). The overall combination worked well, and I added a $5.95 side of Yakitori Skewers for a bit more savory sweetness in my meal (photo). Glad I found it, but I think they probably need an Elvis impersonator sing "Rock-a-Hula Baby" on the sidewalk to draw in more customers. Wear a mask, King. I've ordered from Kitchen Aloha a couple times and had mixed feelings about the quality and taste. The handrolls and spam musubi were delicious and I would definitely order those again. However, the spaghetti and meat loco plate were huge disappointments. The spaghetti was bland and flavorless and the meat loco was not what was advertised. The description and photo online show bbq short ribs, corn, hash brown patties and sun chips and I received none of those. Instead I got pork katsu that was thin and dry and ribs that were tough and did not taste fresh. With such a huge menu, I guess not everything can be fresh. read more

It's a little shop next to an apartment complex building. I wouldn't have noticed it if it was not for the smell of something delicious wafting in the air. I was just walking down Van Ness after work and bam! The aroma of something deliciously fried entered my sphere of senses, haha. I got the Cheetos Spam Musubi for a snack. Came back later and got the baked rolls to go the next day, since it was close by :) I'll be back if I am around the area again! read more
Really enjoyed the miso soup which wasn't too salty, had seaweed, tofu, and pinch of string mushroom. Had the meha bowl which had 3 pieces of sashimis. Ppoke is not cubed. Red tuna was blah but salmon and others were good. There is rice with a delicious sause. Potpourri of stuff like tortilla chips, edame, broccoli florets, real sliced corn (not the can), etc. $16. Had spam musubi 2 pieces for $5. Didnt finish the meal but ate the fish. Took 10 to 15 min after ordering to go. read more

- I decided to treat myself before going in to work and I purchased the Chicken Teriyaki Bento with Sashimi and Shoyu Ahi Tuna Rice Poke bowl to-go. It was about a 12-15 minute wait on a Tuesday evening around 6pm. - The teriyaki bento is decent, though the sashimi tasted only average in terms of quality. The miso soup was just ok, too. - HIGHLIGHT: I highly recommend the shoyu ahi tuna rice poke bowl! The rice was so fresh, chewy, and somewhat sticky in texture. The poke was beautifully marinated with just the right amount of sauce, and it gave a tasty flavor to the rice. I love all the side components as well - the surimi, roe, seaweed, chips, and salad. This bowl has got everything to keep the palate entertained! Try it! Your belly will thank you. read more

This place was absolutely delicious! It might have been the best spam musubi I have tasted in my life. The added crunch was such a nice touch. I also got the gyoza and the spicy salmon hand roll which was bigger than I expected and so fresh and good! I wish I had gotten 2 of these honestly. This was a group order for the office on DoorDash and it was nice to see that they nicely wrapped and labeled everything. My coworkers mostly got the chicken teriyaki and they all loved it. read more
Simply delicious mixture of Hawaiian and Japanese dishes. Love that I can choose both, Spam Musubi which they have three kinds, Poke bowls they have those as well with all the fixins. Then add Philly rolls and dragon and baked rolls etc. I order a DoorDash for pickup everything was packaged well, all hot and fresh after delivery. I consider it importance since many places lack the care to package to go items and once received are disorganized, missing utensils, condiments or even side orders. The Poke bowl was amazing with green onions, seaweed salad, edamame, greens, ginger with spices and filled to the brim. Rolls where amazing and we'll packaged. Oh and the Spam musubi two kinds were a good portion. read more

I ordered Spicy Beef Udon and got a nasty bowl of broth, barely any beef, 2 pieces of broccoli and SPAGHETTI noodles! I am embarrassed for this establishment. Will not ever go back, buyer beware. read more

Scored a discount through DoorDash and tried Kitchen Aloha for the first time. I ordered some of my regular go-tos and thought it all was on point. I really do love a side of poki to go along with a few rolls. Staff was very nice and courteous. read more

My favorite poke spot in SF. The service is always great and Tammy is the sweetest. The spicy crumbly spam is so delicious and the food is always presented so nicely! The store is small but it's very quaint and I love it! read more

Ordered take out at the kiosk on August 21, 2024. They're usually good for a fast (when you pre-order), filling and nutritious lunch. I'm giving them a "could have been better" rating for this meal because the avocado slices were rotten. I know how hard it is to keep avocado fresh, but, for almost thirty goddamned dollars for lunch, I expect fresh food -- period. Do not recommend anything with avocado from Kitchen Aloha. read more

This is a quality poke bowl spot! The raw ahi tuna was great, but most notably, their rice is FRESH and high-quality: true sticky sushi rice with that subtle vinegar tang, and not freezing cold and hard like it is at too many poke places. It's *cool,* just the perfect texture and refreshing temperature to compliment the raw fish. I also ordered the "Cheetos spam musubi" out of curiosity! Sadly, it didn't feature actual cheetos crumbles like I imagined it would, so I do wish they'd change the name. But I'm not docking a star for that because it ended up being a fascinating and delicious concoction anyway, kind of a cheesy-baked spam katsu situation, drizzled with great sauces. read more
I walked by this place all the time and didn't even realize it was there and will definitely be coming back probably on a weekly basis just for their poke bowl and spam MUSUBI!!! So fresh and so tasty. I'm from Hawaii and I can tell you that this little gem is going to be a staple of mine and my friends from now on. Not only did I receive service that was organized clean and friendly but got a great big smile I could even tell she was smiling under her mask. When I got my take-out order home I have course was wary because I've had grown up with Hawaiian and Asian cuisine my whole life and when I bit into my first bite of Wakame seaweed it was like home. Then the roe and ahi tuna, delicious. Musubi was perfect ratio of Spam to rice with Nori ! I want to say thank you for staying open during this difficult time and I cannot wait to come back. I got the ahi tuna poke bowl with Shoyu seasoning. It came with seaweed salad and other small food items. I thought it was a good amount of tuna included and it tasted like that familiar ramen broth that I'm used. I think I'll like the spicy mayo seasoning next time. read more

This new spot has some great offerings on the menu. Bento boxes, poke bowls, and even a chirashi style bowl. All at reasonable prices (for SF). Good quality. There's even room to sit and eat. Highly recommend. read more
I'm a pescatarian but don't eat raw seafood so my options here are limited. I only order at night and only order with seafood. I've tried the California roll, prawn udon, salmon and prawn bento box and so far, they kinda lack flavor to me for an asian restaurant. I think it would be a big difference if they put twice the amount of seasonings on food... at least to those I mentioned above. The staffs are friendly which is great because it is rare these days I guess. Thanks for being open. read more

I actually came here again recently and was pleasantly surprised. They're doing 10 dollar spicy poke bowls! They're pretty good and have a good variety of ingredients. The spicy poke tastes pretty fresh and it is a relatively big portion. They are pretty quick to order and prepare the food. The staff are friendly! I will likely be returning for these 10 dollar bowls! read more

Walking the dog at around 9 pm and I ran into this little hole in the wall Hawaiian Japanese restaurant. It reminded me of those similar looking take out places in Waikiki. We already ate but got some snacks. My 12 year old daughter had the Spam Musubi, her response said it best: "we gotta go back to that place!" I had a $3 Hamachi and Cucumber Hand Roll that I forgot to take a picture because I ate it so fast. My daughter had edamame and it hit the snack spot perfectly. I wanna go back and try other stuff there. Nice owners there too, they're experienced. read more
