I am pretty sure the poke here gave me food poisoning. This was the only meal that both my partner and I had that day, and within an hour of consuming this meal, we were both running to the toilet. Just like wanting a hot dog real bad, I've had moments where I felt the same about a poke bowl. It's not as fussy as sushi, and you can get toppings and garnishes up the wazoo. On my way to Dolores Park, I must've had a confrontation with my wazoo when I randomly strolled in here for lunch. Everything still looked fresh at 2PM. I couldn't help but order a $17.95 Regular Bowl with Salmon and Yellowtail, my two favorite nigiri. In fact, I asked them to add extra yellowtail because I was "real bad". I don't find myself in this neighborhood very often, but I'a Poke is always a solid lunch option when I do. A small but mighty place with flavourful options, lol. There's some indoor seating available, but on a nice day I like to take my bowl to-go and eat at Dolores Park nearby. If you get overwhelmed by all the mix-in choices (same!) I'a has, they also offer preset poke bowls and burritos, and the staff is available to suggest combinations. By now we all know the poke bowl drill: Choose your size, base, proteins, toppings, and garnishes. My hands-down favorite poke bowl and the best version I've ever had is in Orange County (Uroko) so in a way, every other poke bowl I consume is being compared to that. I'a Poke did a reasonably good job but if Uroko is 5-star (it is) then I'a Poke is 3-star. That said, I'm not in SoCal; I'm in NorCal and there's no Uroko here and I've not found a place that comes close. In NorCal, I'a Poke rates 4-stars. A medium bowl ran $16.75 pre-tax and if you throw in some extra cost items (e.g. mango) the cost can add up quite fast. The menu also offers some "signature poke bowls" at an additional cost (topping out at about $21) which take the guesswork out of optimizing your order. I ordered up a pretty decent poke bowl on my own, not best in class but good enough that I feel comfortable saying if you're looking for a poke bowl in the City you'll likely be satisfied by what I'a Poke is putting out. read more

The first thing I'll say is that this place can be kind of expensive. It's $20 for a build your own Sushirito. That being said, I think you really get some bang for your buck because they are MASSIVE burritos. A regular roll at another restaurant is probably $13, so for $20 you basically get almost 2 in 1. The staff is always nice but the place is pretty small so it's not a great spot to post up and enjoy your meal. It also always has kind of a funky smell inside so I prefer to order and then eat at home. There's never really a long wait so you can walk up and get your food pretty fast. read more

About the shop, it's not huge but it does not need to be with each poke bowl crafted if you wish to your specifications. Pretty good poke. I guess some of the condiments and garnishes weren't the freshest when I went. I specifically noticed the ginger wasn't fresh and I like a strong ginger. Watching them scoop the fish, it seems like they're skimpy on the fish but to me it's okay since I like to add a lot of condiments and garnishes. So it seems like more food to me. Service was fast during lunch hour. There's limited seating, maybe like 8-10 seats. So I wouldn't plan on eating there. Take it to Dolores and enjoy it there, unless you're alone. read more

Good poke spot in Castro/offset Mission. Very small but does the job of being the standard poke line bar and a few places to sit indoors. They have 2 sizes for bowls and I believe they do poke burritos too? They are always well staffed and there is virtually no wait especially in the middle of the day. If I remember correctly, the small bowl you can only choose up to 3 (?) toppings which is a little sad as I sometimes have to decide between if I want cucumber or jalapeños, ha! My first sushirrito was a delicious one! I ordered the Honolulu and my brother had one with tuna, salmon and marinated tuna though we ended up sharing half with each other. Both were tasty though I will probably want to choose my own ingredients next time since it's a $1 cheaper than their specialty ones. The sushirritos were quickly assembled in front of us within minutes and tasted great! I'm usually more into poke bowls, but this was so tasty and easy to eat. I ordered a poke bowl to go, and it did mot disappoint! The fish tasted very fresh. I had two scoops of the ahi tuna, and even though I got the smallest sized bowl it was quite filling. Towards the end of the bowl it started getting very salty even though I hadn't added soy sauce, but adding some more rice could have fixed the problem. Great post workout meal. A regular poke bowl consists of 2 protein and 3 toppings for $13. I was quite surprised because the other places I've been to have unlimited topping choices. This place doesn't have much variety either so I guess it doesn't really matter how much we could add. It also costs extra to add guac which is usually free in other places. Regardless, I was happy and full. My fiancé got the sushi burrito for $17 and he said it was the best he's ever had. That's a huge compliment considering he's a sushi fanatic. There's not many places that can appease most of the team that are healthy and won't weigh us down before playing, and I'a Poke is one of them! There's lots of options for toppings, protein, and your base. I prefer getting lettuce with a little white rice (or brown rice, if you prefer) and hamachi and spicy tuna. The small size means two proteins and three main toppings. They also offer burritos, spam musubi, and a variety of tea and Islander/Asian drinks. There's a few seats but all of their dishes are perfect for takeout. I usually like places that offer unlimited toppings with poke but I think those are more common downtown than in the Mission. read more

The large size came with the choice of 4 protein and unlimited toppings/garnish. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful and hits the spot! Very rarely or never have I found a poke spot that had marinated seaweed and I was excited to get that added as a topping. I'm always picky when it comes to marinated tuna at poké because I am picky about the texture, but at @iapokesf, it was fantastic! Their salmon was also just as amazing as their tuna.
