It's literally my first time at C&C and I couldn't help but notice the posters on this store's wall. They had so many interesting items to choose from that aren't common under one roof where I'm from so I HAD to try something, lol. I decided on soft serve in a waffle cone, half matcha half pure milk and bro... Best soft serve I've genuinely ever had. Not only am I surprised with the quality but the matcha side had a very strong (in a good way) flavor and tasted like it was actually made with quality matcha. You could even see specks of matcha powder throughout the swirl. 10/10 soft serve. Very short but pleasant experience. Theres at least five other things I saw and want to try on my next visit! Ordered this on NYE around 5 pm for pick up around 7. After paying cash (discount for cash payment), we had to wait as they were not ready with the order. The packaging was were well done and put together nicely. They ran out of uni so they substituted with hamachi nigiri. The sushi and sashimi was were fresh and better than cheap sushi places. The soy sauce they provided was really salty and not sushi grade soy. Price is a bit pricier than other places but quality is much better. read more

This is a bit of a hidden spot across from a large grocery store. They sell matcha soft serve parfaits as well as sushi and some other food items. There is a seating area but the layout of the store makes it seem like more of a takeout spot. The service was good and the parfait was not bad, but it just didn't quite meet my expectations. A hidden spot inside C&C Supermarket in the East End. I've been wanting to try out Kitaya for awhile and was excited to finally stop by. There was a decent amount of variety on their menu and was surprising they also sell sushi too! Mochi Azuki: I got the mochi azuki with matcha ice cream. The ice cream was rich in matcha flavour and was delicious. The mochi was a good amount of chewiness alongside with the red bean. It was a simple ice cream that satisfied my ice cream craving! Candy Latte: My friend got the candy latte which was a Dalgona coffee drink. It was pretty interesting they had dalgona coffee pieces on the drink. The place is a bit more of a casual atmosphere with some seating. It's more of a takeout type of place. The service was quite quick when I went. Located inside the same building as the grocery store, this little shop has a very inviting menu. There are a few seats to sit and dine at. There was no garbage can in the store which seemed like it was confusing everyone with where to throw their garbage and I noticed everyone just throwing it in the main building garbages when they walked out. We got the ice cream twist, the croffle, and then also spicy salmon roll. Ice cream was great. Croffle was what you expect and enjoyable. Salmon was good in the roll. I really want to go back to try their bowls next time. They looked amazing (saw the people around me with their bowls as I waited to get the ice cream). Pretty good Japanese restaurant that is mainly takeout. They do have a few seats if you choose to dine in. Lots of good variety to choose from their ice cream to different Japanese dishes like sushi, sashimi and donburi. I'm all about hojicha-flavoured. Honestly it has the right amount of hojicha taste, so it's great in terms of flavour. Its portion is huge like too much for ice cream. I'm not sure if it's just me or what, but that much of ice cream gave me stomachache or discomfort. I'd rather to have less portion with a lower price, or to have someone to share with. But the worst part is the mochi. Mochi is supposed to be soft and chewy, but their mochi was DISGUSTING. Nothing like it's supposed to be. Look at the picture. It's not hard to think it's been frozen for too long. It was icy and unpleasant to eat. Huge disappointment. Definitely not worth the money, nor the wait. read more

Had a slightly difficult time locating this shop the first time I came but this plaza has quite a bit! We usually stop by oomomo whenever we come to Kitaya! I love their parfaits. We usually go for the Ms Kyoto because it has my favourite shiratama (rice balls) in it with their twist (matcha and houjicha). Their softserve is not very icy nor super creamy and thick. It has a nice texture and goes well with all the jellies and cornflakes in the parfait. It has a decent amount of toppings throughout so you are not stranded with all of the same thing at the bottom. Kitaya also serves croffles and sushi and sashimi dishes. Will definitely find time to try them out one day. read more

This new Japanese restaurant opened 2021-03-23, located inside the large C&C grocery superstore. It is currently in soft opening so the hours of operation (currently Mon-Sun 13:00-20:00)  and menu items could change. They sell sushi and sashimi items, fruit sandwiches, and several delicious looking sundaes (in a cone or cup). It is running as takeout-only but there is enough space to have indoor dining once the health mandates allow it. There are counters that you could stand beside and eat when indoor dining is allowed, but they could easily set up a few tables and chairs also. We ordered the Pudding A La Mode with Hojicha Twist ($9.50). It comes with two strawberry flavoured Pokey Sticks. The pudding and hojicha twist were delicious.  There is corn flakes as the bottom layer. The staff is courteous. They accept credit cards. During pandemic times, there is hand sanitizer at the entrance, face masks are required, and there is plexiglass at the order counter. There is no free WiFi. There are no customer washrooms. It is wheelchair accessible. This restaurant is in a large mall so there is plenty of parking with disability parking spots. Stumbled across this place while visiting a supermarket and the poster for Croffles caught my eye. I know Croffles are super popular in Korea but this is the first for me seeing it in Ontario. I ended up getting the Kinako Rennyu, which has soybean powder and condense milk drizzled on top. The interior of the store is super cute and they sold snacks and other Japanese dishes as well. Overall, the croffle was pretty good. It had the texture of a croissant but more of a mochi chewy consistency. The condense milk was not overly sweet and the soybean powder was the perfect compliment. However, I would say that the price was a bit steep for me personally given the size of it. Ill definitely go try the other dishes once I'm back in the area though. read more

Was shopping at C&C Supermarket and noticed this new Japanese inspired shop that does croffles, soft serve, fruit sandos, rice bowls, sushi, udon, etc. Staff was kind, friendly and helpful, no line up during the time I went. Ordered the "Ms Kyoto" which consists of corn flakes, soft served which I had the twist (matcha and hojicha), topped with mochi, green tea pocky, walnut crunches and hojicha jelly. Looked pretty but taste wise was average. Wish the hojicha and matcha soft serve was stronger, it was more on the creamier side, very settle taste of actual tea. Their croffles which are croissants pressed into a waffle maker and topped with different toppings that are either savory or sweet looked amazing. Really should have tried one, the matcha white chocolate looked delicious and so did the strawberry cream cheese. Would definitely try one when I come back. read more

The sushi here is not best. I think the Japanese sushi rice could be improved. The salmon and tuna are very moist, smooth and flavorful. The otorro is smooth and moist too, but k no it enough flavor. It was a toss-up whether to get a Croffles (croissant/waffle) or a Sundae as my first every item from Kitaya. One Osaka Style Croffle with Takoyaki sauce, mayo, bonito flakes and seaweed ($4.95) please. The hot dessert was flavourful and delicious. I believe it was the store owner directing the lone staff member. Service was great. Credit card (no AMEX) and cash payment is accepted. I will return to try other menu items. read more

Aesthetically very appealing to the eye which made me want to check this place out! Located inside a chinese supermarket plaza. It also offers japanese food now as well. Very clean and simplistic decor. Got the waffle sundae with the twist (matcha and hojicha). The waffle tasted line a croissant which was very surprising. Overall nothing too special and was just average. The matcha soft serve is more mild and other places like tsujiri offers a more intense matcha flavor. The cooling matcha jelly, with the chewy Mochi and texture from the corn flakes and walnut crunches was a well thought out combination. My only gripe was that the Mochi needed some sugar or shrub because it was just a bland chewy ball. The worker was polite and kind. Located inside the plaza right outside of the C&C supermarket. We came here because I was on a hunt for Asian dessert/ice cream. We literally called in right before it closed and asked them to move it for us and we would pick it up right at closing time. They were more than happy for the business and even served people who came in right after me. Its similar to tsujiri with the matcha soft serve. I liked the hojicha soft serve and the pudding in the pudding a la mode. My friend got the Tokyo cheese cake, I feel like the cheese cake was quite small and he said the Graham crackers or biscuit at the bottom was not good at all, it was stale. Both of these game to $20+ and I feel like it was overpriced. It's good but just not worth it. Overall 6.5/10 would recommend read more

Saw this store when I was grocery shopping and decided to try it out. I loved the uni don it was so fresh and smooth. I would definitely buy this again. Unagi Don was also really good and hot. I loved all the soft serve! They were so flavorful and I was surprised that the mochi was hot coming out too. Learned about this shop from BlogTo. This is quite a unique shop. It has a menu for main course, for example different kinds of rice and sushi as well as one for dessert, mail ly serving ice creams. The purpose of my visit was to try their hojicha flavoured ice cream. The one I ordered was known as Ms Kyoto. A twisted flavour of matcha and hojicha ice cream with corn flakes at the bottom of the cup. The middle layer was a mixed of jelly cubes and ice cream. The top has 3 plain mochi balls with two Pocky sticks. There were a lot of things in the ice cream cup. The ice cream tasted so delicious. I would be satisfied even I was not offered any of the side ingredients, ie the corn flakes or the jello cubes. The tea flavour was rich. Personally, I did find the matcha flavour of the ice cream has over powered the hojicha flavour. The mochi balls with the ice cream would make one full. It's an awesome experience. I've always been curious about this little shop every time I did groceries at C&C from the time it was in construction to when it finally open. I was hesitant to order anything here since the prices were a bit steep and I can easily get a cheaper, hot meal for half the price cost else where in the plaza. However, I caved in and decided to try something out. I'm a big sucker for unagi and when I saw they had unagi don, I was almost sold. For the price of $18, it was almost too good to be true. I'm very picky in what goes into my don and when I asked the cashier what's the inclusions, she said "Just the eel, rice and pickled radish". I was sold. I got it to go and when I finally got home 40 min later, it was still piping hot. The rice was fresh and the eel was absolutely succulent. I would 100% come back here just for the unagi don! read more

Like a previous poster, i am also underwhelmed by my sushi order. I paid $18 for the aburi sushi set but was not worth the purchase. There is way too much rice and the shrimp and mackerel were average at best. They didn't skimp on the mayo on the shrimp and for that reason, I couldn't really taste the shrimp. I didn't dock any stars for this but the sushi was poorly presented as well. On one of the aburi sushi pieces they put half a piece of mackerel with half a piece of shrimp (because they ran out of both?) i am glad i got to try the ice cream for free with the sushi order and it does taste good, but i won't be coming back to order sushi again. If you are looking to try good aburi sushi i recommend Torch pressed sushi or Hay sushi instead. read more
