I finally tried Professor's Market again last week and found a different employee from last time…read morewho did the same thing as the previous one. They are clearly trained to take your order, then your payment, then go off to a little niche far away and make the sub exactly as they want to. If you want extra mayo, or no pickles, or any other adjustment, you are stuck. But, this time, after my last experience, I leaned over the counter and tried to keep my eyes on him and, sure enough, I spotted him start to put pickles and other veggies on it without asking me anything. I called out to him and told him I how I wanted it made and he did so but it was a nuisance. The sub was good again but I don't recommend anyone buy one at this place unless you're happy with the shop deciding exactly how they make your sub. If you want a choice however, virtually every other sub shop in the region will ask you first and give you a chance to tell them how to finish the sub.

We drove all the way from the South Shore for one of the "Grand Tasting" events at Life Love…read moreCheese, but unfortunately, the trip was a complete letdown. The atmosphere felt chaotic and poorly organized from the moment we arrived. In addition, several vendors and offerings promised in the event marketing were nowhere to be found. For a ticketed "grand tasting," the cheese selection was surprisingly basic, focusing on standard fare like basic cheddar and colby jack rather than unique, artisanal varieties. The pairings were scattered randomly around the store like an unintended scavenger hunt, and the drink tastings felt rushed and performative amidst the surrounding disorganization. The service only made matters worse. The store's staff appeared visibly stressed and uncoordinated; while waiting in line to use the restroom after our long drive, two separate team members approached to scold us for being inside the store early. To make matters more uncomfortable, we overheard the owner nearly reprimand an employee before stopping herself when she noticed customers were nearby. Basic inquiries were met with subtle side-eye and dismissive energy, making us feel unwelcome throughout the visit. A feeling further compounded as people of color in an environment where we felt distinctly out of place. We left very hungry and thoroughly disappointed after paying for a ticketed experience. We won't be returning.

The pricing is moderate here and they also offer DoorDash delivery. The place is order at the counter and there is table seating along the wall and front windows, plus a gumball machine. I ordered the fan favorite Turkey Apple Cheddar ($12 plus tax) making it Fat Larry-Double Meat (add $2) which was made to order promptly and wrapped to go. The sandwich had plenty of deli sliced roast turkey, cheddar cheese, romaine lettuce, apples, mayo, & an onion fig jam between toasted marble rye (my choice of bread). This sandwich was amazing and I will have to also try out their other sandwiches on my next visits to Fat Larry's.

DiCara's is one of the few Italian delis in the Reading area and is quite good. They have a decent…read morevariety of deli meats & cheeses and will make sandwiches and subs to order. I usually get an American or Italian sub and they tend to be excellent, well-stuffed with the good meats, and on nice firm sub rolls. A reviewer claimed the rolls are old but I've never once gotten a stale one. It's possible the reviewer confused good crunchy Italian rolls with day-old rolls. As a connoisseur of good Italian bread, I look for rolls that are crunchy outside and firm inside and DiCara's are exactly that. They have a friendly staff who make the subs very quickly and never make a mistake on the order. The store has a lot of other food, for example, olive salads and tuna salad which my Mom liked. Also sometimes, you can find various cuttings left over from when the salami sticks near their end sealed up in plastic. Yum! They also have a number of imported products (not all from Italy). I like their imported pastas such as the big Rigatoni and Fusilli. They have some spices too--I always get the Rosemary from Cento. Oddly, they also have an excellent variety of potato chip brands--Utz, Cape Cod, Wachusett, Zapp's, Dirty, and sometimes Wise. Finally, they carry some nice cupcakes & desserts from nearby bakeries.
