Sake

Had the greatest time here! Mika, Kenny, Oscar and Jose were all such attentive host and the food quality was amazing! Will definitely be coming back soon

Sarah L.

I was really disappointed by Kinzan! It had been saved on my list for awhile and as honestly a waste of money. I'm not sure why they're advertising a $69 omakase, all we were offered was an $89 one. To start, they try to be tricky by asking if you want still or sparkling water, not offering tap. I didn't think anything of it until I realized they wanted to charge us for water by not saying tap was an option. I should have asked for it, but by the time I saw her pouring bottles of water, it was too late. They were really pushy about us splitting a bottle of sake, and the can of sake my friend did get tasted terrible. They did offer us free sake towards the end, which my friend did enjoy and made up for the bad tasting sake from earlier. As for the food, none of the fish had any flavor. Almost all cuts of sushi were overpowered by the wasabi, which tasted more of horseradish than actual wasabi. I'm also someone who also loves wasabi but the taste was so off. There are so many other budget omakase spots that this one unfortunately misses the mark.

Unfortunately, Kinzan missed the mark for me. I was first drawn by the $69 omakase, but they didn't seem to offer that on the Sunday evening I went - there was only the choice of $89 omakase. They were rather pushy about drinks, and I was surprised that a glass of wine was $20! They do have some beer options too, but most of their sake you had to get by the bottle. Onto the food.. the fish was pre-cut, and the rice tasted more like a standard white rice as opposed to a sushi rice. In a majority of the bites, either the Wasabi or the rice had more flavor than the fish. Uni looked a bit off. I did appreciate the creativity of some of the bites though, like the pesto topping. At this price point, I'd say there are other omakases in the city I'm more likely to return to.

Kinzan is such a solid omakase spot in the West Village! We went for the $89 set and everything was super fresh. Loved the flounder, scallop, black cod, uni, and especially the wagyu with foie gras -- melt in your mouth good. The vibe is clean and cozy, and the chef was super friendly. Definitely one of the better value omakase places in Manhattan. Will be back!

No fillers like miso soup, ice cream, or fruits. Just straight-up nigiri, sashimi, and handroll--Kinzan Omakase offers a choice of 13 courses for $69 or 16 courses for $89. You're getting good quality, properly portioned omakase experience without breaking the bank. What we had: - Flatfish Sashimi - Salmon with Yuzu - Yellowtail with Pesto - Bluefin Tuna with Truffle - Hokkaido Scallop with Sea Salt * - Seasonal Squid - Torched Black Cod with Alaska Black Mushroom * - Albacore Tuna with Crispy Chili Garlic - Hokkaido Uni - Madai with Yuzu Kusho - Toro with Caviar * - A5 Wagyu with Foie Gras * - Barbecued Eel with Popcorn * my favorites The torched black cod was a highlight, while the toro with caviar and A5 wagyu handroll were truly decadent. Some unique toppings like pesto, crunchy chili garlic and popcorn added an exciting twist. In terms of service, the chef and the waitress were friendly and attentive. They explained every course before serving. For example, we were told that the squid was a seasonal dish for only three months. They even offered sake for every table on the house when we visited. Portion-wise, it was enough for me while my bf thought 16 courses would be more filling for him. You can enjoy one more sashimi and two more nigiri if you go for the $89 set.

Let me start off by saying I'm as basic as they come when it comes to sushi. I would rather eat a whole plate of Maguro or O-Toro than try something new... but I was surprised to enjoy every piece I was served at Kinzan Omakase. I really do not like certain fish, but the chef managed to complement the tastes in such a way that I did not mind certain types I had never been interested in trying before. I honestly cannot think of something I was served that I would not eat again. I did see a reviewer who did not like the truffle added- I thought it was delicate and exceptional with the buttery tuna, but I love truffle. The restaurant itself has a very nice and relaxing vibe. The staff were all super friendly and conversational- not just knowledgeable and attentive.

Fiona L.

So if I could I would give Kinzan a 3.5 stars. It's not a 3 stars and also I'm being generous with 4 stars. The sushi wasn't bad, it just was heavily masked by flavors like truffle oil. I really had a hard time enjoying the actual fish. Also, the service wasn't bad, it just really depends what you're looking for. I viewed it as a huge counter and they're literally trying to serve you as fast as possible. Very little explanation on what's being served. The staff are pleasant but it just it felt extremely rushed. From the list of omakase places I've been to I would rank this at the lower end.

Really enjoyed our experience here! Fish was super fresh and lots of unique combos. The sake was also delicious :)

Really enjoyed Kinzan Omakase. Simple, well-executed omakase in the West Village without any fuss. I did the 16-course menu for $89 and everything was fresh, clean, and easy to enjoy. Relaxed, low-key vibe and great value for the price. They also have a 13-course option for $69. Would definitely come back.

Where else can you find a 13-course omakase for just $69?! Nice. Or go all out with the 16-course option for $89. Situated in West Village just steps away from the W 4th St stop, you'll find all your favorite nigiri and handrolls! My personal favorites - Hotate (scallop) - Unagi with rice crackers - Otoro with caviar All the pieces are a good portion and not overpacked with rice. They have some interesting toppings like pesto and candied yuzu, which I haven't seen at other omakase spots before. The service was quick and attentive and it's definitely a more casual vibe. Kinzan Omakase is an omakase spot located in the heart of the West Village. They offer a 13 piece omakase for $69 and a 16 piece omakase (13 piece with 4 pieces sashimi and hand roll) for $89 per person. We ordered the 16 piece and the meal started off with 2 pieces of flounder sashimi and salmon sashimi. The omakase featured: - yellowtail - tuna with truffle - scallop - albacore tuna - ebi - uni - madai - A5 Japanese wagyu with foie gras - eel (Others I'm not sure about) At the end the hand roll featured salmon. Overall everything was really good! Very classic omakase spot on the more affordable end (for omakase) - would recommend!

Recently had dinner at Kinzan Omakase in the West Village and it was a standout experience. They offer a 13-course ($69) and a 16-course ($89) omakase -- we opted for the 16-course. The atmosphere was intimate and relaxed, and I never felt rushed; the pacing made it easy to savor each course. Service was attentive, with constant refills of water and sake, and the sake pairing is well worth it. The sushi was consistently excellent, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared, with the amberjack being my favorite for its rich texture and flavor.

Food (5/5): We got the $89 Omakase combo which has 13 pieces, hand roll, and 4 sashimi. My favorites were the wagyu with foie gras, el toro tuna with caviar, scallop nigiri, and salmon with ikura sashimi. Overall though all of the pieces were amazing and mega fresh! Service (5/5): Very friendly service whereby the host greeted us and had a nice convo with us. The chef looked more serious but was also polite and smiled with each piece. The pieces came out fast at a good pace and was enjoyable. They also gave us a sale on the house which was nice. Ambiance (5/5): beautiful and cozy interior decorated by many classic Japanese drinks and sakes. Has the vibe of a legit Omakase place.

The atmosphere here was a bit more lively and crowded compared to the more relaxed vibe of the UWS spot. I enjoyed my meal even more this time around. I started with the beet salad, which was delicious and offered great value given the generous portion size. it featured sliced beets, arugula, goat cheese, and walnuts. I also had my eye on the hijiki soybean salad--which is a bit smaller and reportedly homemade--so I may try that next time, along with the warm mushroom salad which looked very tasty. The edamame was standard but served as a nice starter. For my main rolls, I chose the salmon avocado and the yellowtail scallion. Both were very fresh and definitely worth ordering again. The salmon avocado roll had a nice touch of sesame seeds on the rice, while the yellowtail scallion was prepared with the seaweed on the outside. My boyfriend's sushi entree looked excellent, so I am considering that or the sushi-sashimi combo for my next visit. The entrees provide a substantial amount of food, and I especially appreciate that they allow you to choose which roll comes with your meal.

They share a takeout menu and it's super easy to order--text what you want to the phone number on the website and pickup in ~20 minutes :). You pay on a handheld and they don't ask for tip for takeout. I love this process and truly wish more sushi restaurants in LA adopt the takeout box. The only one I know of is hefty but also $200 each lol, making Sanyuu's $69 omakase and $78 Everything don, not to mention the $30 giant salmon nigiri set, A STEAL! I enjoyed most of the pieces but I will say I don't like their amaebi or uni at all. I'm not sure what kind of uni is used here but it's the type with a very strong mineral flavor & aftertaste that I don't find enjoyable. We're spoiled by easy access to live spot prawns everywhere and fresh SB uni. Despite this, I wouldn't hesitate to come back if I lived in the city.

The slices aren't thin, delicate, and melt-in-your-mouth as one usually gets in a sit down; they are extra thick, and I had to really bite down on some of the pieces. The rice was nicely seasoned and was cooked well + portions are also big to match those thiccccc salmon slices. To be honest, I was getting a little nauseated after 5 pieces, haha~ They were definitely delicious but I'd probably just eat 3 or 4 pieces and share with a friend! It was easy to text the number on the website and coordinate a pickup time, and the staff was friendly when I arrived. The restaurant is a little hard to find as the windows are blinded and the sign is a piece of paper on the door.

At the time, I thought that seemed fair enough, but looking back, I'm not so sure. For what was left in the bowl, $30 still felt overpriced. The fish slices were cut extremely thin, and there was really only a single layer of fish, so overall it just wasn't very satisfying. That said, there are still quite a few items on the menu that caught my eye and that I'd like to try. I'm going to chalk this one up to ordering the wrong dish rather than writing the place off completely. One thing that did leave a bad impression, though, was the interaction at the end of the meal. The girl who brought our check wasn't exactly rude, but she seemed visibly annoyed when we asked about using Apple Pay but ended up putting the charge on my card and it felt like asking her to bring over the Apple Pay machine was somehow inconveniencing her. She also didn't bother asking whether I wanted my receipt. Maybe none of it was intentional, but her overall demeanor came across that way and left us ending the meal with a bad taste in our mouths.
