Made a 6:15pm reservation at Kawa to celebrate my wife on Mother's Day. We were greeted by Ryan (manager) & Tony (chef) as they began our omakase experience. We ordered a bottle of Dassai 45 (a Junmai-daiginjo) chilled sake. A terrific smooth sake with a melon essence. We enjoyed a 14 course omakase made just for us exclusively for us (I guess folks were cooking for their mom's at home?) The standouts for us were the black cod with yuzu pepper sauce, the maguro (lean tuna) & wasabi, the red snapper bite was outstanding as was the sea bream. The restaurant interior is located below street level with a simple contemporary design. Black stone countertops & a brightly light white brick wall behind the chef's sushi station make for a stark contrast and a clean, sharp looking space. Ryan and Tony were exceptionally attentive and consistently smiling. Ryan insisted on kindly pouring our sake and refilling our waters. Both gentlemen asked for feedback & seemed genuinely appreciative. We were absolutely shocked this hidden gem was all ours for the two hours we were there...I'm certain we won't enjoy that exclusive experience at Kawa Omakase again! I highly recommend a visit & we'll certainly be back. Oh...I failed to mention, where else will you find a well executed 14 course omakase menu for $88/pp in Manhattan? Enjoy!

Delicious fish!

Hands down, wonderful experience. The food is SO fresh. We scheduled this to be on our anniversary but never really celebrate our anniversary, but the Kawa Omakase staff reminded us in such a sweet, sweet way. Bringing us dessert with a candle & an extra serving. We are leaving with big smiles & will certainly be back. Thank you so much!

Went here yesterday for a girls night dinner for my birthday, chef Tony and our waiter Ryan did not disappoint! We had the 6:15 reservation completely to ourselves which selfishly I loved because we were able to ask chef Tony about the fish, get candid photos and even listen to whatever music we wanted! We brought 2 bottles of wine, there's a $20 corking fee per bottle and the omakase was 14 courses $88. I've gone to a few omakase spots. This one is perfect if you have never done it before or eating with someone who is hesitant on sushi because it has all the basics salmon, tuna, yellow tail, wagyu, red snapper, cod, etc. It's not overly experimental with flavors but just enough where each piece is a really nice bite.

Best meal and best experience of my life! The vibes are perfect and cozy. Chef Tony and his Wife are the sweet humans in the world. I was in awe at every single thing I put in my mouth. Chef Tony noticed my reactions to everything and at the end made me an extra of my favorite, so sweet! Highly highly recommend

The space is usually quite busy, but still feels serene. The cocktails are very good, though they lean heavy to gin, vodka, and whiskey as it is japanese - you will miss out on tequila and mezcal at this spot. The Katsu is good, but I don't really like katsu, so i'm not going to try to sell that. The uni toro dish however is just out of this world and exactly what I want to eat every day! This stuff is a dream come true. The corn ribs are the best preparation of corn outside of very cheesy esquites that I've ever had, and the mazeman is some really god noodles. Other dishes are good, but I would say the Mazeman, uni toro, and corn ribs are the musts for me. Corn ice cream at the end is a nice treat, it tastes a lot like white chocolate, but there's corn in there too!

If you do, definitely order the corn items and the clam pasta!

My friend visiting from CA and I were seated within 10 minutes of bursting in as soon as doors opened. Cozy, dark, and ambient is how Kimura feels. We were also escorted all the way to back of the restaurant in the second partition. Something about that made it feel even more intimate and special dining with my friend. We didn't have to yell at each other to converse, and had no problem hearing each other with nostalgic 70's hits blaring at an inoffensive level through speakers. Our yakitori was well marinated which had me thrilled. I hate an unflavored meat stick if anything. Also, the meats and seafood were just well grilled. Not too well done and not undercooked. Just right, which is what I like. My friend had a good time with his sashimi and sushi. Overall, I am satisfied with what Kimura had done for us. It definitely impressed my LA friend.

They also provide high chairs and cutlery for children. It's rare to find a place in New York that serves *motsu* . We ordered a portion for two, which was quite generous and absolutely delicious. You can add spicy or garlic-based dipping sauces, which change the flavor profile and make it even better. I recommend finishing your *motsu-nabe* with ramen. The staff are all kind and incredibly attentive. Plus, the restrooms are kept very clean‼ I imagine the other dishes on the menu are just as good. This is definitely a spot I'll want to visit again and again. ・ *motsu-nabe* for two

Raku - Vegetable tempura udon

Best Udon restaurant in New York…read more Raku's noodles are nice and springy nothing like what you can buy and their quality of noodle in general is off the charts. I've gone to multiple udon restaurants that claim handmade noodles but Raku is one of the only resaurants where I can taste that difference. Clean broth, high quality meat, good seasoning. I've gotten both the gyunan and wagyu and the wagyu was insanely melt in your mouth but the gyunan (which I think is a great base dish to get to know raku) was also incredibly tender and the meat prepared at the perfect temperature, you don't even need to splurge for the higher quality meat because their cooking elevates it. The sizing for the udon is generous and their karage is also one of the best I've had For the other appetizers, I've also had the agedashi tofu and ankimo (monkfish liver) which to be honest I think can be skips, not bad, well seasoned, and freshly fried but I think when you compare it to the noodles you might as well save room and skip the appetizers. The soho location is mid-sized with some five tables in front and other tables lining the hallway to the back with more space. The staff is very professional and the restaurant itself is nice and calm. A must-try spot in my opinion highly recommend

This is my first time enjoying udon noodle soup in NYC so let's see what it has to offer and it did not disappoint! We sat at the large communal table in the back - VERY loud talking so would recommend a booth or the seating in front of the restaurant if you prefer a quieter dinner. My coworker ordered the Chikara (mochi with chicken hot udon) with a side of veggie tempura, this was recommended by our server. I ordered the Niku + spicy oil (most popular udon with beef short ribs and honeycomb tripe) with side order of shrimp tempura and sansai vegetables. Food came out quickly within 10 mins and was piping hot served in fun pots! This amount of food was more than enough for 2! I wanted to order gyoza but next time! Broth was savory, beef and tripe were both very tender, tempura was lightly battered and fried. The vegetables had a nice pickling, nice crispy. My coworker really enjoyed her mochi. I even tried a sip of her broth and it was so flavorful! Chicken was soft and juicy. This was my favorite dinner during our stay in NYC thus far, I can't wait to come back! Dinner ended up being $88 in total after tax which I think is a great deal. Highly recommend Raku for those wanting to try Japanese noodles, either hot or cold!

But at last, as I searched on DoorDash I stumbled upon this glorious restaurant they call Izakaya Fuku. I was drawn to the adorable names for their sushi roll dishes like "Strawberry Fields" and their Italian Japanese fusion pasta dishes, "Creamy Mentaiko Bacon Pasta" with creamy mayonnaise, spicy cod roe and bacon like are you kidding me? It's a bummer I wasn't more hunger or that I didn't have more bucks in my wallet because I wanted all these dishes. And the Chirashi Don, god it looks so beautiful the way that it's arranged in the photos online. I finally decided on the carbonara. And I was drawn to the fact that it was udon based. Now, I've just been living in hawaii these past years so that Japanese twist on an Italian dish that I just love oh so much really brought me back to missing the islands and the Asian spins they had on cuisines. Now my food may have not come in a jiffy but for after midnight cravings I'd say it was well worth the wait. And my oh my the portion was huge!!!! I slurped that big boy up. It was SOOO delicious and savory. I love comfort food and this had me in carbonara heaven. I loved indulging into every single last bite. By the looks of the picture the restaurant looks lovely, I'd love to stop there and try it in person. Thank you. Thank you! My belly and my heart are very much satisfied.

The king oyster mushroom was kinda buttery in a delicious way and the shiitake was classic with a nice smokey-ness. The unagi don came with well-cooked eel. The accompanying tamago was very smooth and custard-y with a radiating miso flavor that I really enjoyed! Ratio of rice to ingredients was also great! There was traditionally an hour wait at least during prime meal time. People would sit in the chairs that lined the entry hallway because it was just that good. Over the years, I spent so many evenings sitting at the yakitori bar meeting other people who also had a deep love for this restaurant. When I came to NYC for a weeks visit, I'd often eat her three times even though there are so many great places to eat. Something happened over the past 5 or 6 years. Maybe it changed ownership? I should have known when I walked in to a restaurant that was half full. Some of the recipes of old favorites have changed. Most importantly, some of the skewers were tough, dry and over grilled. And everything was presented in the same way, and everything slathered in the same yakitori sauce instead of each dish arriving grilled to perfection and presenting itself as its own particular delight executed from the imagination of a chef who truly cared.
