Went back after 7 years and it was just as good as ever! The staff is FANTASTIC, and the omakase and add-ons are scruuuumptious. M, Jeff and Dani really took care of us

Y'all I don't even know where to begin, I probably, no, I DEFINITELY had one of the best dining experiences of my life here at Sushi by M. I truly had some of the most fun ever alongside some absolutely incredible sushi all while celebrating Alexa's birthday!!! WOW I will never be able to recommend this place enough. So I did the 18 course option and if I talk about every single piece, which I easily could, this review would span the length of a new york times best selling novel. Let me tell you about my favorites. My absolute favorite, thankfully saved for last, was the BBQ Eel Avocado. WOW. WOW. WOW. The flavors were taking my tongue through uncharted territory that was one of the best things Ive ever put inside of my mouth I'm actually falling into a depression that I can't permanently have that taste in my mouth. Second favorite has to be the Madai (Red Snapper) which was equally smooth and sharp. It allowed me to roll my eyes back in bliss while packing a punch. Unbelievable. The King Salmon had me in disbelief that salmon could taste this way. So unique. And my last fav was the Albacore Tuna which was just a classic prepared to perfection with an amazing crunch to it that sealed the deal. All of this incredible food matched with the most fun hospitality I could ever experience. All the sushi chefs were here to have a GOOD TIME!!! Taking shots of Japanese Whiskey with us in between each dish, singing their hearts out with us in Karaoke, and celebrating one incredible night. Sushi by M is THE PLACE TO BE if you want to have the night of your life.

We finally got a chance to try the omakase at Sushi by M and it didn't disappoint. The chef and server were both attentive and communicated what each course was. The fish quality was great and everything tasted so fresh. There wasn't a single piece I didn't like. They let you order more pieces, but we were full from the omakase. Definitely my new omakase spot!

Honestly, if I could rate this above 5 stars, I WOULD 100% WOULD! if you're looking for an omakase place in New York, I would highly recommend this place! I did the omakase course with wagyu. Each sushi piece made tasted very fresh like it was bought from the market a second ago. Along with that, the chefs makes it a more meaningful experience. From interacting with you to taking shots and doing karaoke at the end, I would say this was one of the best experiences I've encountered in my life. Immaculate service too from the waiters! Recommending which sake to get and partying with me and my friends. Definitely will be coming back in the future for more!

Came here on a Thursday afternoon for lunch without resy. We wanted to sit at the bar but had to wait a bit since it was all occupied. We ended up just sitting at a table and they gave us a free sake shot on the house for waiting. We got the 18 pieces for $100. The sushi pieces were on the smaller side, but we still left feeling quite full. Service was attentive but kind of slow, maybe since we weren't sitting at the bar the chefs couldn't see when we were done with each course. Happy to finally try but quite similar to the other affordable omakases, nothing really stood out.

I had some visitors in town and brought them here because it's one of the highest rated affordable omakase in NYC. We made reservations beforehand, but arrived early and was seated immediately at the bar. For omakase, you have to sit at the bar for the full experience. They offer a 13 course for $69 and 17 course for $100; as we opted for the $100 omakase with higher quality fish. We also paired the omakase meal with two bottles of sake: Dessai 39 ($50) and Dessai Blue 50 ($55) between the three of us. The waiter consistently came around to pour the bottle for us and kept the alcohol coming. To start off, we had an oyster and snow crab rice appetizer. Then the nigiris started one by one before ending with a toro handroll. Each piece was so fresh, flavorful, and delicious. My favorite is the wagyu, uni, and foie gras combo that was such a luscious bite. As we were also celebrating my birthday, they surprised us at the end of with mini sashimi platter, which was amazing! This is way better than any birthday cake, such a treat.

This is one of the most fun omakases I've been to! The staff were so nice and interactive with my partner and me. This was one of my top highlights during my trip-- great food, price, and lively energy. I would definitely come back next time I visit NYC again. My partner booked a reservation in advance, and it was pretty quiet at the restaurant, which made sense since it was a Tuesday late evening. We got the second tier of menu, which was Omakase with two appetizers and one handroll. This set came with 14 pieces, and each one was curated carefully and tasted great. Out of all of the pieces, my favorites were the Toro Caviar, A5 Miyazaki wagyu beef & Sea Urchin, and Salmon.

I was able to make a reservation for about 30 minutes later on Friday night so we just walked over once it was made. It was pretty busy when we got there but I think any walk in would have only waited 15 minutes or so for empty bar or table space. The three of us got the $69 omakase and the jalapeño yellowtail appetizer. Definitely a fantastic deal for the 12-course meal. We were seated at a table so they brought the courses out 4 at a time. They ask if you're okay with wasabi and soy sauce as they are added to each sushi piece. So many great items but the standouts were definitely the wagyu and the caviar in the final set. They also explain each piece as they serve it to you so you're still getting an omakase experience. Don't leave yet because there's also a salmon handroll at the end too. Service was fantastic. We had a short wait before getting seated so they gave us each two free sake shots which was super sweet of them. As any east village spot, it is a bit loud but not obnoxiously so. Lighting was nice and ambient. Definitely come by for some quality yet affordable omakase.

Nice place for $100 menu it's pretty filling but I did add an extra hand roll. Vibes are great and very relaxed but you cannot see the counter as easily. Would come back!

Had the best sushi omakase experience in NYC at sushi M. Coming from Cali, expectations were high and they were def met here. Great vibes and the best service. The owner was so informative and sweet. If you're looking for a sushi spot, pls just stop here. Affordable but the experience was priceless. I will be back sooner than later!!

Jeff was a great chef that made this experience so wonderful. We had an amazing time and was also celebrating my birthday. The sushi quality is phenomenal and presentation of everything was on point.

Recommended by some friends to come here. We had dinner reservations at first, but after some last minute itinerary changes, we ended up being in the area at lunch time. Called in to see if we could just come in, and they were happy to take us. Thought it would be crowded given how packed the reservations were at night, but to our surprise, it was completely empty around 1pm and we got the bar all to ourselves. We ordered the $69 omakase set. Our chef was attentive and took the time to explain each piece of fish we were being served. My highlights included the amberjack, red snapper, and Scottish salmon. I was really surprised as I've had lots of omakase in the past, but never really tried such different types of fish. The dishes were simple yet flavor was amazing. Our chef kept us entertained the whole time, and even as a nice gesture threw in an extra salmon dish at the end. Overall was a delicious and fun experience. Would definitely recommend to get the full set to have the best experience.

The atmosphere here was a bit more lively and crowded compared to the more relaxed vibe of the UWS spot. I enjoyed my meal even more this time around. I started with the beet salad, which was delicious and offered great value given the generous portion size. it featured sliced beets, arugula, goat cheese, and walnuts. I also had my eye on the hijiki soybean salad--which is a bit smaller and reportedly homemade--so I may try that next time, along with the warm mushroom salad which looked very tasty. The edamame was standard but served as a nice starter. For my main rolls, I chose the salmon avocado and the yellowtail scallion. Both were very fresh and definitely worth ordering again. The salmon avocado roll had a nice touch of sesame seeds on the rice, while the yellowtail scallion was prepared with the seaweed on the outside. My boyfriend's sushi entree looked excellent, so I am considering that or the sushi-sashimi combo for my next visit. The entrees provide a substantial amount of food, and I especially appreciate that they allow you to choose which roll comes with your meal.
