Maybe adding less ice or asking them to make it stronger will make this drink more satisfying. After weeks of hearing about the newly opened Kinley's Tea House, I finally made it there this past week and it's official...I EFFING LOVE IT! Unfortunately I wasn't able to take pictures, but I'll be back to try all the different teas and use the wi-fi to write a review or two (and waste a good hour on Facebook). You know, I don't really have an issue with GECU being inside Kinley's (to the left). I did go at night so I didn't get the full bank experience, but there was still a security guard at the front. I think I got the gist of it. It just wasn't an issue for me. Walking in with an open mind may be helpful because if you're expecting a Japanese type teahouse with pillows on the floor and petite women in kimonos giggling in the corner, you'll be a tad disappointed. KTH is modern...I mean it has a bank in it for crying out loud. Adjust your expectations accordingly. The tea was great and I love that you have the option to create you're own tea. You don't actually build it yourself or anything, but there's tons of different options for add-ons like tapioca pearls (I think that was an option...it's been a week, cut me some slack haha) and flavors like mango. Really the possibilities are endless and it gives you the freedom to find your dream tea. KTH does have a kind of hipster/modern/Google-offices-inspired feel to it. You know, bright and well equipped with outlets and college students (sprinkled with young professionals). I'm a fan. Even though the place was pretty packed, it wasn't loud. One of my go-to study spots due to the high tables and natural lighting. Ambiance - Shares a space with GECU which is a bit odd, but doesn't interfere with the tea house. There's normal seating as well as high tables with outlets available. Service - Workers are informative about their menu and always happy to help with decisions. They also bring the drink/food out to you. Food - Drinks and teas are good; however, their noodle bar is very subpar. Noodles were soggy and I understand that you can choose your own toppings, but the ones I picked didn't go well together at all. The egg was also disappointing and was more of a hard-boiled egg than a poached one. Overall, I would come back to here for drinks and to study, but I would never try to the noodle bar again. read more

Every time we've gone, I've been disappointed with their "milk teas". We went last night and was disappointed yet again I'm sorry but that was our last time. Plus, they made my drink in the plastic cup rather than "dirty" their equipment. The food is absolutely delish and definitely packing a punch. The ramen has such a good hearty flavor that you'll end up craving it all the time. My only complain would be the portions, the ramen was not filling and it's more like a snack size. It is priced a bit higher than I would've liked for what we received. The atmosphere of Kinley's Teahouse is not what you'd imagine for a teahouse. It shares a building with GECU bank so the area is brightly lit, filled with corporate furniture, and feels rather cold (or maybe I was freezing because the A/C was blasting). Despite the surprise, I appreciate all the outlets for fueling my laptop and loved the few teas I've tried. Fruity drinks, bubble teas, bold teas - I love them all. Normally back in Chi City, I'd fix my weekly cravings at Joy Yee's (a must visit, fyi). In El Paso, Kinley's Teahouse is the best place for the sweet mixed tea drinks I miss with the added plus of the strong tea taste. I'm a fan. I've only tried a handful of drinks so far; all chilled. I'm used to adding lychee jelly to my cold drinks but adding aloe was an addicting new experience for me! I've been back for the Crystal Sunrise (not sure about the name.. it's the first thing on their menu) with added Aloe Vera. I also plan to revisit the jasmine milk tea here (served hot). Warning, it doesn't taste like typical milk tea (bold), but rather, had a light taste since it was made with green tea. You should give it a chance! Food at Kinley's Teahouse?? I attempted to eat here last week and immediately walked out when I saw one of the employees sitting on the counter where beverages are served today, I decided that I'd come in and take care of my craving. I ordered the cold noodle salad with the sesame chile dressing. (My favorite from here) sadly the cucumbers in my salad where already discolored and soft. I've been here a few times and love it every single time! One note is that there are two Kinley's! There is one that is the actual physical tea place and there is one that is connected with GECU. The food taste really delicious here. I order the custom ramen bowl and it never disappoints. The interior of the place is modern and has space for students to study or hang out. I love that they have an upstairs place separate from bottom floor. It takes a long while to receive your food after you order but I think the wait is worth it. I love their Fruit Loot Shaken Ice Tea. Goodness is it just yummy! I also recommend trying out their Iced Green Tea Latte!! Also very mouth watering. I will probably be coming back here all the time! The newest venture by Kinley boasts a wide range to teas to be had by potful or a mug. Cold shaken ices teach with fun add ons like boba, jelly, chia and the standard things one expects at boba houses. Noshes include some cold and warm noodle dishes with selections of broths and proteins. Service can be mildly snotty at times, but can be equally warm and welcoming at others. Noodle dishes are uniformly tasty and well made in their simplicity and are a perfect lunch bite. Tea pots are very shareable and come at the right strength and nary a teabag in site. I used to go to Kinley's because of the nice study atmosphere and it's proximity to campus(at least once a week and up to like 5 times during exams) but after coming here for a while there are some things I'm a little disatisfied about: 1. Drink quality and consistency: I'm somewhat of a tea connoisseur. I prepare loose green, chrysanthemum, barley, etc teas at home. I was excited to find this store selling many different types of teas. I have tried a few different teas here but I've been buying exclusively the jasmine milk tea for a while now. However, no matter what drink you get there is the same issue: there is no consistency in the preparation of any of the drinks. They may have a recipe to follow but they do not follow it well because the drinks always taste different. As for the loose teas they often let the leaves steep too long making the tea distorted in taste. 2. Cleanliness: I usually come after 5pm to study and the counters are usually dirty in multiple spots. If its 5pm and they're dirty I can only imagine the disarray during lunch time rush. They should really clean them on a schedule/regularly. Having to ask them to lend me a towel to clean it so that they'll get up is just a shame. 3. Employee attitude: This was kind of covered in cleanliness but the employees are certainly odd. If you ask for less ice they will pour less drink and still give you a lot of ice. In the picture I posted I haven't taken so much as a sip and you can clearly see the tea is more of a small than a large. The function of the ice in the first place is to cool the drink for consumption not to replace the drink and take up space. Although that is what it has become: filler. People think that by asking for no ice you are trying to somehow con them into giving you more drink. As if you didn't pay for the drink in the first place or as if a fl. oz more of tea will bankrupt them. Frankly, I usually only buy a drink to support the local business over Starbucks but I digress. So why do I ask for less/no ice? I come to study not to drink tea. Often when I study I forget that I have the drink and it will sit for hours sometimes before I take a sip. By this time the ice usually melted and as a result the drink tastes too watery. Additionally, it just so happens that they did away with the 10% student discounts just today. Now their drinks are not only sub-par but just as expensive as Starbucks. My incentive to spend my money here at a local store as opposed to a national chain like Starbucks has all but disappeared. I will probably study at the Starbucks closer to my home from now on instead. read more

Huge disappointment. Maybe since I only went for the boba milk tea rather than food, but I was sorely let down in that realm. The boba was not only cold and lifeless, I saw that they decided to keep it in this open container which they leave on the bar counter. This is also the same place where people can eat right next to if the place was packed and that seat next to the boba container was the only other place to sit. Very unsanitary. I believe it was the black milk tea I ordered and the tea itself was very plain and didn't have much of a tea flavor to it. Very watered down. Not sure who steeps the tea there, but it needs a lot of improvement. The cream added to it was done right though. Their selection of food seemed very good and I wouldn't mind coming back to give it a try. But I only had my heart set on a good boba milk tea. They had a pretty sweet deal for a buy 2 get 1 free deal of the same milk tea drink. Unfortunately, we ended up just tossing it since it just wasn't close to good. When I walked in I was immediately impressed by the atmosphere of the place. Very chic, clean, and modern. There are a lot of chairs, lounge couches, and tables to sit at. There were also a lot of nice plants, a TV, and an upstairs lounge. The menu was cheap and diverse. The boba milk teas were okay yet there was only one worker on the job and the wait for our milk teas were very long. The worker was relatively nice to us but since it was only her, we waited about 10 minutes for our drinks. Yes, I understand that good boba tea is rare in this desert city and I don't mind paying 3-4 bucks for small boba tea IF I knew I was paying for it. Two times, not once, cashier didn't inform me for additional charges per syrup and per boba. You might think I am just illiterate. I scanned the menu, trust me. I did see additional charges on chia seeds, aloe vera, and other ingredients below... Neither the menu nor the cashier was clear on this. Even when I asked. I love this place if charges were clearer. When I came into this tea house it was 3 pm. I had specifically asked them if they keep the music low like they already had since the group of 10/15 of us were preparing for an exam. Come 5 pm and a group of workers show up with Burger King and grab chairs off the table we were sitting at to sit at the counter. Even two employees that should have been working stopped everything they were doing to eat Burger King. At 8 pm they turned up the music so loud it was almost as if we were at a party. One of students went to ask them to turn it down and they said you can leave if this is too loud for you. What kind of customer service is this? 99% of their clientele are students. My husband and I went to Kinley's Tea House today. We have been dedicated and faithful patrons of the coffeehouse since it was called Jamocha! I love the coffee and we buy our coffee beans from Kinley's so we can make the coffee at home as well. So today we had time and we decided to stop in to the new tea house and try some drinks. I was impressed with the fantastic and friendly customer service. In addition to the awesome customer service, the fact that they share space with GECU is amazing (we bank with GECU) and the employees with GECU had smiles on their faces. The decor is GORGEOUS. It is so beautiful inside and so comfortable. We took our seats on sofas in front of the register and it was so nice to sit there enjoying the atmosphere. The menu is very nice and very easy to understand. We decided on a small Crystal Sunrise and a build your own shaken tea. I cannot remember the base tea we selected sorry, but then we chose soy milk and pomegranate sweetener and strawberry boba popping pearls. THEY WERE SO DELICIOUS! I highly recommend teas at the tea house. They also have a very nice vegetarian menu with meat options. If you have a chance to go here, GO! read more

I was very disappointed with this hipster joint. 2 lemonades and 2 brownies for 14 bucks?? WTF?? Then the lemonade was made with the bottled lemon juice that costs $1.49 at your local Wal Mart that causes heartburn within seconds in drinking it. Kinsley's was a classic college coffee house! Their espresso was very tasty and made on a la marzocca. The service was friendly, we didnt try the food but it looked good on other peoples plates. We also happened to meet the owner, a nice older woman who mentioned the place has been open 10 years. I had an iced latte, which was much better than id have gotten at the sbucks across the street.. My wife had a italian soda which she described as "great, good proportions of soda and sweet with a little bit of cream". The vibe was nice, quiet, people reading and hanging with friends. I recently came to Kinley's Tea House to work on a final and I have to say it wasn't peaceful place to study. The lobby was empty and the employees were talking very loud. I don't speak Spanish, but I know that the words pinche, chinga, and the constant use of the word "way" aren't pleasant words to use for a work environment. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. It saddens me that men talk like to women and vice versa. My beverage did not taste like quality. I didn't want to bother them to remake it for me since they already looked annoyed. For the price of the beverage and for the quality I got, I will not be returning to this business. Overall opinion: pretty good. It was difficult at first to realize that this was a coffee-house. I'm new to the area, and passed by it every day without noticing it sold food. It's kind of overplayed by the whole "GECU" thing going on. But, it was after a run, and I needed an iced tea and something to eat. I was trying to counteract all the pan dulce I had in the morning, so I ordered a spinach salad with chicken and spicy citrus dressing, along with an iced green tea on the side. The spinach salad came exactly as described, and though I'm not a salad lover, I was pleasantly surprised. The vegetables were so fresh, none of those little broken bits of veggie that make you want to throw the food away. The chicken had a surprising amount of flavor for just topping a salad, and smoothed out the crunch from the veg. I also really enjoyed the salad dressing. It was spicy and slightly sweet but with a nice oil that bound it together. The perfect thing if I had gotten a noodle salad (but again, making up for pan dulce)..... My favorite part of the meal had to be the tea. I almost never get green tea that actually tastes like green tea. It's a rarity. Normally always old or over-steeped, almost indistinguishable from black tea. The tea I had was fresh and had that springy flavor you get with good green tea. I have more cons than pros about this place. This is based on my several experiences there. Cons: If you plan to use your laptop, know that it is very bright during the day (glares). Good luck during the later afternoon, it gets really hot because of the large window walls. The internet connection quality is very poor. You may experience continuous disconnects. Seating is not as cozy as the coffee house but it's okay. I don't like the bank part of the tea house. Having to encounter the security guard and front desk secretary right when you step in is annoying. Pros: The drinks I've ordered were fine. The coffee house is right next door and you are free to go there with your tea. I realize that this place just opened so I hope I can give a better rating later. read more

Kinley is tea alchemist. This place has amazing traditional teas and customizable drinks. Try also the soups. Teas to try are the Thai, Traditional Milk Tea and Taro over iced. Their hot Pumpkin Spice Chai is better than Starbucks. It's not a latte but a hot tea. Not over sweetened. Kinleys Teahouse has a nice friendly staff and great seating areas. read more

I have only had the hot teas so cannot comment on the other offerings. Have tried three of the hot teas and they have all been outstanding. I drink tea "black", that is unsweetened and with no milk or other trappings that change the experience and I can say that each one tried has been very fine. Yes, it takes a few minutes to brew a tea; worth the wait. The decor and architecture is like nothing else in El Paso. Modern, sophisticated, comfortable, and exciting. Lots of attention to detail. There is a quietness to the place that makes it work well for business and personal conversations. I prefer to sit on the second level since the seating up there is upholstered, comfortable, and each chair has a built-in swivel desk to lay out paperwork. All in all the Tea House offers fine teas and an environment that helps, rather than hinders, conversation. Tea prices are similar to better coffee houses. Those teas I've had run about $4. I see some negative comments regarding the credit union in the same building, but to me it is not a negative at all and in a way seems to round out the space. Plus, I'd guess that the credit union helps pay a fair share of the cost of carrying the building, helping to keep the tea room in the black. I just don't see any negatives here at all. While I love Kinley's Coffee House and was extremely excited about the teahouse opening, my spouse and I were disappointed when we visited this past weekend. One of the things we were disappointed about was that it has a bank in it - I mean sharing the sitting area - several self serve teller machines, etc. Felt very corporate and really took away from the atmosphere. We also wanted to sit upstairs but were told that the bank preferred that customers did not take their tea upstairs. We frequent another teahouse here in El Paso regularly and were hoping that Kinleys would be similar with many choices of loose leaf tea blends, matcha, and earth friendly environment. Sadly, it is geared toward the sugary boba teas and only offer a few choices of white, oolong and green teas. We will go back to try the food and are looking forward to that. I love getting the vegan cupcakes at the coffee house and hope that they may also have those as an option at the teahouse. Sadly, we won't be back for the tea though. We understand that he is aiming to please the college demographic and wish him a long and successful future but we will stick with our authentic teahouse. I used to love going to Kinley's Tea House to work on my assignments. The baristas were upbeat and the manager was very informative and fun to talk to even and maintained her friendly disposition even when there was a rush. I loved the variety of tea, including the boba milk teas and the crystal sunrise tea, which was made with oolong and hibiscus. They also made some soup with matcha-infused broth and tea-marinated tofu (I believe it was with their lapsang souchong. I can forgive a few hiccups, but the last time I was there, their service was so bad that I didn't want to return, and I haven't since then and don't plan to. It seems like the friendly staff I once enjoyed no longer work there, or perhaps I was just unlucky and happened to go when they weren't there. I kept getting this one girl whose expression was as mundane as I imagine she thought her job was (whoa is me --I have to make tea! Life so so stressful!). I would get over it if she was like that just once in a while, but that wasn't the case every time I got her, and no matter how nice I was (I'd also tip her despite her subpar customer service), it felt as if I was annoying her. The last time I went, which was a few months ago now, I ordered -very slowly and clearly, when there wasn't a rush- an iced loose-leaf tea. I asked her if she could sweeten it with honey while it was steeping before she iced it. I sat down and read a newspaper, and when I heard "hot tea ready at the bar," I assumed that was for someone else (although there were only two other people than me there). But after 15-20 minutes of waiting, I thought, "Oh, I guess that WAS for me!" And sure enough it was. I said, "I'm sorry, I remember ordering this iced." And without a word, she lazily got the hot tea and poured it over ice, which diluted the flavor. When you make iced loose-leaf tea, the amount of tea, water, and time you leave it steeping is different, and seeing as this is a place that SPECIALIZES in tea and that I've had great service in the past, I figured she'd get something very simple like that down (especially since she had been there the last several times I went). I had an hour to work on my assignment before they closed, so I went upstairs and made sure not to order anything else so they could clean and leave as soon as I left. At a few minutes til closing time, I got up, put my laptop away, looked down stairs, and the girl with an attitude and a co-worker were leaving, not realizing I was still there. One turned around and saw me. I expressed that there were a few minutes left and I was trying to pack up and go, and they didn't seem at all bothered or sorry. As I waked to the Kinley's Coffee House next door, the same girl with a 'tude also walked there and quickly went to the back. All in all, I was tired of feeling as if I was burdening the lazy staff members and decided to never go back. There are some great tea establishments very close to that business and luckily I haven't had the same bad service with them.
