The fish is super fresh--both visits we've gotten the sashimi sampler, from the small plates menu. All three fish-- salmon, tuna, and hamachi-- just melt in your mouth. Couple nights ago we decided to have some Kinja sushi as we've always loved their food. Our family ordered: 1 Yoda Roll 1 Firefighter Roll Rocky combo with maguro and Cali roll Seasame Chicken Plate $100 that I normally don't mind paying for great tasting sushi but tonight was not a good night for them. Unfortunately the fish was not fresh and the sesame chicken was drenched in the sweet sauce. The maguro in the Rocky combo although thick slices, it was definitely not tasted horrible. I know this is going to sound silly, but the packaging of the food is really well done and thought out. For example, the Chirashi dish has the cold fish separated from the rice and unagi so that there won't he a mixture of temperatures. We also got a colt combo and sashimi. Cool place with ample parking lot. Of course during this time, you can park however you like. There wasn't much on their specials as you normally would expect pre-COVID but the stuff they do have, it is prepared nicely. I ordered five different rolls and can say I was not disappointed. Ingredients was fresh and great presentation. We had one sushi roll where the sauce sort of soaked through the rice (no fault of the restaurant) but it's because of the long drive time between when the food was prepared to when it was consumed. The owner there is very nice and even during this difficult time, she carried a smile and friendly attitude (same for the chef). My opinion is sushi is best experienced in person as there's nothing that beats eating sushi where you can take your time ordering from their special menu while taking a shot of sake. Totally diggin' the vibes of Kinja sushi! Stopped by for dinner on a Friday night and the environment was super lively. Previously, this building had been occupied by another sushi place called Happy Roll that I was honestly never really a fan of. I'm so happy that Kinja came in as their replacement. The interior is bright and inviting and the staff is warm and welcoming. I sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed watching the sushi chefs preparing everyone's meals. Speaking of sushi; I really enjoyed my Los Cantaros Roll! I tend to stick to my typical Dragon, Lion King, and California roll for the most part when I try new sushi places, but I decided to step out of the box a little bit and tried something different. Lo and behold, I was honestly impressed with what I had. The Los Cantaros Roll was light and refreshing but still filling. I loved how colorful and beautifully plated it was. The sushi tasted very fresh and the roll itself was a nice size. A little pricier than many of the other sushi spots in the area, but the quality is also a lot better when compared. I also ordered the pork gyoza and those babies were a dream. Perfectly deep fried with that lovable crispy outside layer. Service was awesome and everyone seemed excited to be there. The menu features a host of very creative sushi rolls along with the usual suspects and favorites. This is Kinja's second location as their first location is located in Oakland off of Grand Ave (I haven't been to their original location yet). All in all, I had a wonderful experience here and I'm happy that there's a solid sushi spot in the area now. It was good enough to make me come back, and I'll definitely be doing that. read more

Kinja is our favorite sushi house in Concord. The food is always fresh, which is a must when having any kind of seafood. The sashimi is great, and so is the chirashi (assorted sashimi over sushi rice, with some garnishments). I also recommend the Kinja udon noodles, it's my favorite udon around. The Kinjadon is really tasty as well. It's a bowl of warm brown rice with salad greens, garnishments and a medley of chopped assorted fish. The Triple Kinja special roll is also delicious. I honestly haven't had anything that didn't blow my hair back here. They don't have cocktails, sadly, but they do have a long list of sake. The servers are friendly and nice and prompt. The waitress greeted and sat us immediately. My boyfriend doesn't even like sushi that much but he was sold tonight and got adventurous. By the end he said he might have to change his tune about sushi. Between the two of us we had the deep fried beef stuffed mushrooms (amazing, hot at first but I couldn't wait till they cooled off!), deep fried California roll, los cántaros roll, the kewpie and the black widow roll. It was definitely enough to feed a small army and we were stuffed by the end. And extremely satisfied. Btw Everything had fresh crab!! Not that imitation BS that most sushi restaurants try to pass off on you. We had a great conversation with the waitress and left so full I could happily skip a not so needed (but wanted) dessert. Decided to have lunch here the other day. My partner and I had visited a few years ago and found it to be good, but had rather ordinary maki roll selections. This time, we were very pleasantly surprised with a great selection of rolls, sashimi and other items-- especially monk fish liver, which we hadn't seen on other restaurant menus. We chose the sashimi sampler, dragon roll, and two pieces of monk fish liver hand rolls. Everything was very fresh and tasty, and quickly presented by the pleasant server. I'm sure we will visit again, and I will bring my teenage grandson, who adores sushi, and my granddaughter and daughter who are fond of tempura. The environment is fine, and we older folks would probably enjoy softer music and less tv sports, but nonetheless it's a pleasant family-friendly place downtown, with lots of free parking. The music of choice was absolutely embarrassing. The lyrics to one song, "Twinkle, twinkle little B*tch, Im so F'ing over this." Repeated over and over. F words throughout the song. I went up and quickly asked if they would turn the song off as I had a young daughter with me. The sushi staff chuckled and eventually turned it off to the next song. Which was no better. Again, we asked them to turn it down or off. They finally did. I have never in my life gone to any establishment where I had to listen to the garbage that was on. It was incredibly uncomfortable.
