I live in the area, so when I saw a sidewalk sign for a $5 lunch, I had to try it! There was a curry dish on the lunch menu, and I ordered a soft drink as well. I asked if they accept debit cards, the waitress said -- yes! A few minutes later the waitress returned and apologized. They were out of curry. She suggested the beef stew... I said -- why not? A thin kind of stew, of little quantity, arrived mixed with some beans and some rice. There were plantains, also: two thin slices less than three inches long. At this point I asked her -- can I have my soda? She was frightfully sorry, and a moment later I had my ice cold soda, about 10 minutes after ordering it, and after eating half of the entree. The beef stew, though, was strips of gristle, there was no meaty texture or flavor to it. When it came my turn to pay, I presented my debit card. She came back from the counter a moment later and said: "I'm sorry sir, the minimum debit is $8.00." which was a dollar more than my bill. I paid it ...but I wish I had at least said something about my disappointment with the meal and the service. And when I left I realized that she had not given me a copy of the receipt, either. I've always enjoyed Caribbean food until this visit to CeeDee's Jamaican. A friend may try to drag me in for dinner here sometime, but I don't know if I'll give them another chance. read more

The food was amazing! Being an African American, with curly hair who has a mind of its own and a ginormous appetite I was delighted to see a plate full of food! The little angels in my stomach escaped and started singing a tune with fat little naked cupids. The decor is a bit hole-in-the-wall meets cultural colors and pics of my late hubby Bob Marley. If you've ever had any other Caribbean food, you will not like this place. I ordered the jerk chicken and a beef patty, both were bland. First off, the "jerk chicken" did not have any spicy or jerk seasoning for that matter. It was covered in A1 sauce, with a hint of cayenne. The rice lacked any type of salt or flavor and the plantain, Jesus, don't order that. The chicken was cooked well though, it was juicy, but again, it was void of any type of spice. The beef patty. Our first time going. My wife and I both ordered combo plates ($16 each). She had the Jerk Chicken and Curry Chicken. I had the Oxtails and Curry Beef. Both came with rice/beans and steamed veg. She ordered Plantains and I opted for Festival. Wow! Such flavors. Everything was delicious. I really liked how all but the plantains and festival had an underlying spicy heat to it. Perfect for the wife because she doesn't handle lots of heat well. Thankfullly, there was a bottle of Scotch Bonnet sauce on the table. I'm truly addicted to spicy. We used a coupon from our Tucson Entertainment Book, but next time I'm going in on the lunch buffet ($9.99). Wow, where to start.. it was our 10th anniversary and our friends invited us out to eat Jamaican.. Cool.. so we got seated quickly.. the server was nice said everything tasted great.. nice.. so I order the oxtail and goat combo plate for $17.. I have never seen such small serving sizes for the price.. so I though maybe because its special place you pay for different tastes.. I understand that meats are not easily found at normal places in Tucson. But all there was bones, fat, and small section of meat. I guess if I was vegan I would be happy to eat here. A lot of Bones, not only big bones but sharp small jagged pieces. The rice was hard and dry.. the gravy was very tasty though.. I wanted to like this place.. service after we where seated sucked.. we asked for refills.. no luck.. we waited for our bill to the point we just got up and started to leave. I havd been going to CeeDee's since I moved to Tucson two years ago. The food has always been good but the service has always been lacking. But my trip on Sunday was a major disappointment and may keep me from returning. After walking in the restaurant, which was completely empty except for two employees eating at the bar, I waited for 5 minutes for the owner to come out from behind the kitchen to take my order! Not once did the two ladies at the bar greet me, ask me what I wanted or grab me a glass of water. Even after the owner took my order, there wasn't any break in their convo and no acknowledgment that the owner was doing all of the work. I try hard to support local businesses, especially black owned, but I can't justify the spend when the service is so bad. Hopefully they will figure it out before it is too late. Until then, I will just have to drive the extra 5 miles for the only other west indian spot in Tucson. Ugggh... read more

I've been wanting to eat here for months and finally made it in for dinner. From the outside it may not look like much, but the interior is lovely, cozy, and colorful. The waitress seated us quickly and took our order in a timely manner. The food and watermelon drink were delicious. Although the food portion was on the small side. The jerk chicken and beans and rice were delicious, but the plantains and the festival were the best I've tasted! In fact I'm craving them right now as I write this review. The only thing is that the chicken does have bones in it (more authentic I'm guessing) so be careful when chewing. The prices for the food seemed reasonable. So I went there the other night and ad hoc stale chicken curry with plantains and these things called festivals which were basically like a little hush puppy except for a sweet bread type: taste they were delicious the oxtail was off the charts but unfortunately I had to wait about 10 minutes to order not because they were busy but because they just weren't paying attentio. We happened upon this fun place when we were at Office Depot across the street, as it is not too visible from Speedway, being on the far side of the parking lot. We are glad we discovered it! We immediately loved the music and warm colors. Our server aided us in ordering, and we enjoyed both the curried and jerk chicken, although the comment on bones is one to be heeded. Most of all, we loved the homemade ginger beer! You have to like ginger to enjoy it, which we do, so it was energizing! We also enjoyed the pineapple upside down cake for dessert. Just ate from the place and i must say, wow they have changed. When the were on swan they were good. Now, I'm not so sure. Ordered the stewed chicken and oxtail combo. Went to pick it up and they put beef in the place where the stewed chicken should've been so they went back and had to change it. no problem right? Got home, dug into my food. the oxtail was hella salty and sauced up. Then there was a piece of plastic in my food and no not the plastic from the bag they gave it to me in but a piece of plastic from a bag that was torn into with a knife or scissors. some durable plastic. The festival was not the festival i remember. It just didn't taste right. I don't know what happened to this place but I'm sure they can do better. 2nd time eating at CeeDee Jamaican. We ordered the Curry Chicken. It was left over chicken that was not properly heated. All the items on the plates were luke warm. As in not heated. When we let the waitress know she did offer to take them back and reheat. That meant the Micro Wave. You know what MWs do to left over chicken. Tough meat. No, we did not send our meals back. But, there was nothing done to make up for their bad kitchen work. We were not given any type of consideration for two bad meals. Our original order was for their Oxtails. They were not available for lunch even though they are shown on the menu as one of their premium dishes. Seems like CeeDee needs someone to run their kitchen and teach their waitresses to be better about making the customer feel that he is being considered. Service is an Oxymoron at CeeDee. read more

I've lived here in Tucson for 8 months and been wanting Jamaican food. I'm from Fort Lauderdale and we have the greatest Jamaican food there. So I figured I'll try CeeDee's and I drove 30 miles just to get some with my 3 girls!!! Wow! This was a DISAPPOINTMENT!!! My oxtail and mushy rice and peas were Burnt!!Like black !!! I was there for a show on Monday. They didn't have Tito's. Asked for Belvedere on the shelf because I was staring right at it. The lady behind the bar said we only have Sky and Smirnoff. OK. Ordered my vodka cranberry. Only 3/4 of my cup was filled. No lime like I asked. Overcharged me by two beers Dos Equis. I ordered four. They charged me six. Super not cool and no itemized receipt. Women's restroom ran out of toilet paper and it was not refilled for several hours. I will not be going back for any event. The acoustics were bad in the back room. Ok where do I start......hmmmm.......this was my first time here and last time.....upon arriving the ambience was nice and quiet that was good....I noticed only one server working. We were a party of 5. When she took our drink orders which most of us ordered water they didn't come out until 5 minutes before our meal. The food.....well I ordered the jerk chicken with ox tails and it was cold. The plantains were yucky the rice was ok. One person ordered the steam tilapia and she said it was gross. She didn't even finish her plate actually none of us did....lol.... the coconut shrimp was flavorless and oily....the BBQ wings was actually decent. I actually got sick can you believe that!!!! The bathroom was clean excepy yhere was no seat covers and no paper towels to dry our hands with...smh....I was super excited to try this place but I WILL not be going back!!!! Have not been to Cee Dee in many years. Mostly because the seating was so horrendous at the Swan location. Being vertically challenged people sitting in their booths was hilarious. You could just about roll your food into your mouth because the booths were low. Not important. These people upped and left the former place for some new digs on Speedway in a small little shopping strip between Swan and Craycroft. To everyones benefit this place is just perfectly decorated with lots of tables and some booths. Wasn't going to try one of those just to be on the safe side. Also they have a little stage area for a band. Piped in Jamaican tunes from Bob Marley to make this a bit of a Caribbean feel. The colors painted in the place are perfectly designed to make it feel very Islandish. As for the food it is always perfectly prepared and typical Jamaican fare with yummy Jerk Chicken, plantains, warm cabbage slaw and their little hush puppies. Some nice tropical non alcohol drinks like the Hibbiscus one was a delightful soother to the somewhat spicy meal. They have ox tails, goat curry etc. We didn't explore those but from the reviews both are delicious. I'm glad Cee Dee's is finding it's place among the great eateries popping up all over. They are always present at community events in Tucson. You can always see their truck at Tucson Meet Yourself. Pass some good news they have wonderful lunch specials at $5 bucks. Also on Wed. nights starting at 9 to 12 they have live music and specials on the food. I am long in bed at that time but for some younger folks it's a good opportunity for a fun evening. read more

It's only getting four stars because we expected more spice in the jerk chicken but flavor and tenderness were on point. Curry chicken has the best aftertaste imaginable.
