Tasty, but OMG the sugar count. Makes a full sugar Coke or Pepsi seem like a diet drink.

We went to DC Jumbie who was serving at the Tucson Convention Center during the gem show. I was expecting average. Ok. Got the job done. What we got was the best tasting Caribbean food in AZ. The fried plantains were perfect. Great texture and sweet. The BBQ sandwich had the most amazing BBQ sauce. Different and better than the typical Southwest BBQ sauces that you get at BBQ joints. I had some sampler platter. The chicken knocked it out of the park. The pork probably could have used some sauce on it but it was good. Had a subtle smoke flavor. Not sure what to call the rice but it was the star of the meal. All washed down with a can of Tropi-Cola at 200+ calories per can. Yum.

Tripleta

The tripleta is one of the best I've ever had in the United States, closely resembling what they serve in Puerto Rico. It was juicy, flavorful, and packed with great taste. The service was excellent, and the outdoor ambiance paired with nice weather made it even better.

We tried this food truck as it was the first time we saw it in Sahuarita and I was interested in having their Puerto Rican food. The food was flavorful, but not memorable and I just think it is overpriced. We had the Tropical Tacos Combo Plate (see picture for details) and the Triple Threat Sandwich.

Best puerto rican food you can find in tucson. unfortunately it's only pop ups and must follow social media to find. BUT it's worth it because the food is tasty and the prices are fair for the portions and counting they are pop ups! The cuban sandwich is also one of my faves big serving.

This food truck has been coming to TMC, and my co-workers swear by it, I finally had the chance to try it last week. I had the Puerto Rican Platter with slow-roasted chicken, rice, fried plantains. I liked it, but didn't love it. The best thing on my plate were the plantains - they were full of flavor, and so juicy and crispy on the outside! My rice was a little on the dry side, and my chicken I thought was a little over-spiced. A lot people enjoy lots of spice and flavor, but I thought it was just a little much. The empanadas are excellent! The ground beef melded in with all the Caribbean flavor, and had just the right texture. It didn't get soggy. I loved the suggestions being it was first time visiting the truck!

Gave this a try for lunch as the truck was just outside of work. I was pleasantly surprised! I had the Cuban and it was great. Generous portions of tasty shredded pork and ham on a toasted roll. I had a small taste of the Chicken Delight which was equally tasty. They have a small, simple menu but they seem to do things right so I can live with that.

Its the Fidel ala DC Jumbie I hope everyone ives it a try, nice toastie bread and the ingredients blend great together

So I've tried every "cubanito" sandwich in Tucson since the Cuban restaurant by the UA sadly caught fire and closed only to never reopen again.

The Birria Munchies Truck - South side food truck park at the TVSM - Sat 7/2024

The Birria Munchies Truck

Birria Munchies Truck - A Total Hit…read more Birria Munchies Truck pulled up to my apartment complex on Tuesday, and let me tell you, the hype was real. They sold out fast, and when they came back on Thursday, I made sure I was first in line no way I was risking missing out twice. Their menu is incredibly easy to read, streamlined, and straight to the point: it's all about the birria. They keep the payment process simple too, cash or card, no drama, just efficiency. I ordered a birria taco and a mulita, which is basically a double-tortilla birria quesadilla situation, and both were absolute standouts. Prices are on point, especially for the quality. You can literally smell the birria before you even get close to the truck. The meat is juicy and seasoned perfectly; you can taste every layer of flavor. And the cheese? I'm convinced they're using Oaxaca cheese because it is incredibly rich and melts just right. I'm not sure where their permanent spot is, but if you ever see Birria Munchies Truck out in the wild, do yourself a favor and stop. This truck is absolutely worth chasing down. Thank you, Birria Munchies! See you next time you swing by

Cool Runnings Jamaican Food Truck - Oxtails plate

Excellent authentic food…read more The jerk chicken was really tasty and superb. It comes with steamed veggies: cabbage, carrots, onions. It also came with rice which was good. I also got a Jamaican pop--Cola Champagne. Really good stuff. You just have to ignore food truck prices and bite the bullet to bite the food. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

I've had some disappointing experiences with mediocre Jamaican cuisine in the past, so I'm gun-shy…read morewhen it comes to leaving my comfort zone and trying it at all. I've seen this trucked posted up at The Pit for a while, and I've heard good things, so I went full send and tried the oxtails. They came with plantains, rice and peas, and steamed veggies. The oxtails were perfectly cooked and fall-off-the-bone tender. Great flavor! Delicious plantains, rice, and veggies. What a stacked meal. I grabbed the bag and was surprised by how heavy it was. Definitely enough for 2. This was next level from what I've had in the past, and I look forward to visiting again and trying more.

This truck is owned by Dante's Fire's, Ken Foy…read more So first a story on how they came up with the name. Sam Fox of Fox Concept Restaurants (Wildflower, Blanco, Zinburger, Culinary Drop Out) told Ken Foy of Dante's Fire upon opening his Culinary Drop Out directly across the street that "I'm going to put you out of business so fast..." Not too kind nor professional of words to a fellow chef. Well, Dante's Fire is still open and going strong. So Chef Foy decides to do a food truck. So in a slap in the face to "Culinary Dropout," he names it "Culinary Graduate." I think that's funny. Lost some respect for Sam Fox. So, you look at this food truck's menu and you salivate at every item. The worst part of this truck is having to decide what you are going to order. Part of the problem is that the menu items are $10 a pop or more. Not cheap. I decided to go baseline and tried the Sexy Grilled Cheese. Delicious combination of flavors. My only disappointment was the way the bread was grilled. Uneven. Still had plenty of ungrilled white real estate. Not grilled to perfection as my former favorite food truck, Burgerrito (since moved to Tennesee), could do. That will be my bar of standard for grilled sandwiches forever. The garlic fries were good and I enjoyed them. I was disappointed that he was out of the tomato herb potato chips. I can't remember his name, but I sure enjoyed service from the employee. He was super friendly, passionate about the truck, and energetic. Follow them on Facebook for days of service and location. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I can't imagine surviving that hot box in Tucson heat (looks like no AC inside). The folks are incredibly nice and I learn that this is a venture of newly minted Tucson Iron Chef 2022 Ken Foy, who operates the acclaimed Dante's Fire restaurant. Now I get where the inspiration for the eclectic Sammie's came from. I still love the Dirty Pablo - just don't mistakenly call it a "Dirty Sanchez". Go look it up!
