I kid you not, I drove from Gilbert, AZ to Tucson just to try this place out! My cousin told me how she absolutely LOVED it. With that being said I went right when they opened, don't think they were ready for me yet but that's okay. lol Dining room area was super clean. Owners were super friendly and nice. I ordered 3 carne asada, 1 Pollo, 1 adobada, 1 Birria, 1 cabeza, 1 meat quesadilla, 1 karamelo King and a Sonora Hotdog. Only three items weren't mine. Hah All the tacos were fantastic, flavorful and juicy not over cooked meat. The only thing I was sad about was that it was all so juicy that my tortillas were all soggy. Eventhough I only drove five minutes away to eat at my boyfriends place. But maybe if I sat there and ate, it wouldn't have happened. The Karamelo was delicious, I've never had a quesadilla that had beans, onions and avocado in it. So many flavors going on! Sonora Hotdog was said to be some of the best so I ordered as is, eventhough I typically don't like mustard. But where ever they get their hotdog and buns from, the salty and the sweet along with the mustard and everything else meld so well together I was in awe. It was wonderful! I love unassuming places like this. If you aren't paying attention you might miss it. It was my first time there and had so many choices that it was hard to decide, but I got a recommendation to try the Taco Hass and it was great! I also got the marinaded pork and chicken options. Some of the best street tacos I've had so far. The owner gave some recommendations since it was my first time which was helpful. Tacos are $3.50 to $4. They are amply stuffed too. They take credit card too but add $1 upcharge which is totally fair for the convenience. Seating is inside where you will find plenty of chairs and tables and an awesome salsa and toppings bar. One of my go-to spots for amazing carne asada in Tucson! The flavor is unmatched -- this is hands-down some of the best carne asada I've had in the city. It's grilled over an open flame (not a flattop), so the meat has that perfect smoky char that really brings it to life. The food is always prepared quickly, consistently delicious, and the salsa bar is well-stocked with a great variety of fresh toppings to customize your plate just the way you like it. Update as of 8/3/2025: Still just as good! That smoky grilled flavor keeps me coming back. One tip -- Google Maps lists their opening time as 10 AM, but I've found they're more reliably open after 4 PM. The carne asada here is an absolute must; it's tender, flavorful, and grilled to perfection. I'm also a huge fan of the cabeza and al pastor, both are packed with rich, savory goodness. The service is always quick, efficient, and friendly, just as you'd hope for at a food truck. The salsa bar has a lot of options, there is a casual indoor dining area if you want to stick around and enjoy your meal on location. Discovered this place from a YouTube food show and decided to check it out. Although I normally don't do a lot of Food Truck food, this place was outstanding. They do have a building to the rear where the salsa bar is with tables for inside dining which is huge plus. The food was very authentic and delicious and they have some hot sauces I've never tasted before. The downside though and no-fault of their own is that Grant Rd is all torn up for widening, so it's a little difficult to turn left. My suggestion is to come from the east heading west on Grant Rd and it's a simple right turn into the parking lot. read more

I heard excellent reviews of this place and a few friends and I stopped by. The location on Apple Maps was a bit farther down than the actual location so just keep your eyes peeled for the sign! I got the Karamelo King which is a quesadilla with carne asada, avocado, and other goodies and it was fairly good. My friends got a variety of tacos which they mentioned were decently flavorful. My food wasn't as flavorful but they did have great selection of salsa's which I added to give it something more. Overall, I would return and try some other menu items. Terrific tasting karamelo with steak. The only criticism is it's size. At approx 10-12" in diameter (and then folded in half before serving) it looks like a large taco and would take two to be just average satisfied. At $10 a piece, that's getting up there. The piping hot quesadilla/karamelo is served in a styrofoam box, the consequence is that much of the styrofoam was melted under the food... not at all safe/healthy. On the positive, there was a decent helping of lean meat, a half-dozen different (and truly delicious) salsas to self-serve from, along with pickled and grilled onions. Service was both pleasant and relatively quick. There's a bare bones dining area but it's in doors which is super unusual for a food truck and welcome during the summer! read more

I never drive down Grant because it is one of the most uninteresting streets in town and traffic sucks. I will venture it to get food here, especially the Sonoran Dog!!! KK was the second stop on our Tucson Taco Tour. It turned out that the address was wrong so be careful if you decide to go here. After our inedible experience at Apson Tacos we decided to try Karamelo King. All I have is bad news and more bad news. We had entered the tentative zone from our first experience so we limited what we ordered and it turned out to be a wise decision. I had one Al Pastor and one Asada taco, they were both a bit better than Apson but definitely not worth recommending this place at all! Both of my tacos were super salty (maybe they do this in Tucson in case you get lost in the desert and need the salt). The flavor was missing just like the last Public Enemy concert. KK is more of a Mediocre King of tacos. My advice is to move on to another place, because these are not the tacos you are looking for! After this second disappointing experience we decided to give up on our short lived Taco Tour in Tucson. read more

Hot diggity! I had to see if Karamelo King would live up to its praise and it did! I got the Sonoran dog because, well, Tucson, and it was AMAZING! So tasty with every bite. The dog itself was exactly what I want from a hot dog, full flavor and low on the grease. The toppings were fresh: pinto beans, grilled onions, tomatoes, mustard and mayo. I loved the small, simple feel of ordering from a food truck with the grill right next to it, sparks blowing in the wind as the cook tended to the veggies. I stepped inside to eat my meal and peruse the salsa bar. Fun colors on the wall contributed to my happy mood. Upon eating the last bite I exclaimed my pleasure and wished I had ordered two Sonoran dogs instead of one. See you later Karamelo! read more

First of all , I'm not a big fan of tacos. I'm from San Diego California, people said we have the best tacos out side of Mexico. However, I've never liked them. Fish tacos are ok, but meat tacos are kind of disgusting and dry. With that been said, we arrived Tucson around 9:45pm, most of restaurants were closed, and my husband found Karamelo on yelp. Normally I said no to tacos however I had no choice. We only had few cash on us, so we ordered whatever we could. Omg, these tacos are so freakin' good!!!!! Beef are so tender and perfectly match with other veggies and tortillas... I can hardly finish 2 tacos usually, however I ate 3tacos so easily lol I could have eaten more!!! My absolute favorite are steak and shredded beef!! The shredded beef tho.... Thinking about it makes me feel so hungry!!! My husband was surprised I loved them so he got another beef tacos for himself! I could've given them more star if I could, 5star is not enough. Good people, good food!!! Honestly idk what the hype was all about. The toppings for the hotdog were delicious but with each bite I couldn't seem to grab the hotdog and toppings together so the hotdog itself seemed bland. The karamelo king is essentially a quesadilla with beef and avocado. Really no flavoring to it. It's something I can easily make at home. The service was great. They all seemed nice. Ate here for lunch and my taste buds had a wonderful time. I ordered the Karamelo King which is a beef quesadilla. This is no ordinary quesadilla. The Alejandro's tortilla is grilled and filled with tasty beef, avocados, caramelized onions, Wow, it was really tasty. My wife had the chicken taco. It comes with chopped cabbage and chicken on a small tortilla. She really enjoyed it. I also had the Sonoran Dog. Gotta try everybody's Sonoran Dog in town. Karamelo King's dog is quite good. It is another place that toasts the bun on the outside. He filles it with a lot. The usual beans, tomatoes, a sauce of his own, cheese topped with mustard. In spite of having a lot of "goop" in there, it tasted good. I'm docking one star for service. Except for one other customer after us who ordered only a Sonoran Dog, we were the only customers. Karamelo King lives up to its name, for they rule over caramelos in the land of Tucson. I ordered a small steak caramelo as a late night snack and it hit the spot. Do not be deceived by old food truck / stand, outdoor patio, and indoor seating. There is nothing fancy about any of these things. Make sure to get lime, salsa, guacamole crema, and pickled onions at the sides station indoors. Lastly, there was a fly constantly disturbing my bf and I while we dined. I've been to Karamelo's King since around 2 years ago but I've never actually made an official review about it. Prices are fairly cheap considering the high quality of the food. Heads up, the place is cash only. My boyfriend and I got 2 beef tacos, 2 Sonoran dogs, and 1 small karamelo. Total came to be around $15 which in my opinion isnt bad at all. We came in at around 6:30pm and the wait for the food wasn't long at all. Everything tasted amazing and was very filling (as I remember from 2 years ago). My boyfriend was actually craving more despite being full. Overall, this food truck is definitely something to visit and "taco"bout. read more
