After watching the below video on the local news, I enjoyed the story and wanted to give Brucedog a try. One of the things I appreciate about Tucson is how sprawling the city is. Brucedog is located in a location of Tucson I have never been at before. Being close to the mountains is scenic. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with a paucity of signage. There were two young women working upon their opening at 1100 who were friendly. The place appeared to be clean. For a place that has the word "dog" in the name ....you'd think their hot dogs tasted better. I ordered a jumbo dog and that was still a small hot dog. The jumbo should be the usual size they serve no matter what. I went in there wanting a bagel dog but they didn't have any bagels. So then I wanted a soup because I saw that on Yelp but they didn't have any soup either. So what do they have ? Just tiny dogs ? And by the way when the menu states cheese ....they need to specify that it's nacho cheese. Not everybody assumes you're going to pour nacho cheese all over my hot dog. Brucedog has been in this location for awhile now. Husband and I decided to give the place a try. There is no sign out front, other than a small sign on the sidewalk, so we weren't sure where it was. Walking in, the place is bright, appears to be clean and lots of seating. They had just opened. The menu is on an electronic billboard that changes too quickly to be able to read everything. We were getting frustrated with it, when a nice young man pointed to some laminated menus on the counter. We decided to get the Polish dog, sans Hummus (on a hot dog?) and fake bacon. I ordered the food and took a bag of Fritos off the clip to add to the lunch. The young woman told me I couldn't have them as they were for kids. Couldn't she just charge me for them? She said no. She told me that I could have any of the other chips. I said "the ones I cannot reach?". They were behind a plastic shield. She said she would get them for me. The nice young man came over and told me what flavors there were. I asked for ice tea for husband and regular water for me. The woman said that they only had bottled water. I asked for a cup for water and she said all they had was tap water. I ended up buying overpriced Fuji water. The food showed up after 10 minutes. The polish dog was delicious. The cold zucchini bits on top were a nice addition. I asked husband what he thought and he said "Meh". I liked the dog but not the hassle to get it. As I've written this, I'm wondering why I'm giving them 3 stars. They've been open long enough to work out the issues. Food is good but the business model needs works. I used to go to Bruce dog when he had his infamous cart! This brought back so many tasty memories. They have a larger menu now and different spice levels for the chili. The hot dogs were delicious. We got tater tots, but they weren't that crispy and felt like they were frozen rather than fresh. The service is a little slow and they forgot one of our hot dogs and it was a to go order so we didn't notice until it was too late. They have lots of seating which is nice! read more

They are okay. The buns are plain and are too generic. Service was slow.  I do like the fact they use Vienna beef hot dogs. They are tops.  It is too bad that Wild Dogs in Benson had an arson fire a few years back. They were (IMHO) the best hot dog in the state. Rated one of the best in the United States. read more

We used to go to Bruce's original cart (aka his van in the Brake Masters parking lot) late at night back in college 8-10 years ago. Going to Bruce's was an experience we had about once a week, and one of the things I always missed most about Tucson. There's no other dog like a Bruce dog. All my friends and I were so sad when he closed down, and were so happy when he opened up again. Even tho he's passed, his legacy lives on. The dog is just as good as it always was, and the chili is just as mouthwatering. I'm so grateful my favorite hot dog is back. Meh. They're hot dogs - nothing to get excited about, and it's really difficult to screw up a Vienna sausage on a roll. Oh, and they are absurdly expensive. I went in the place at Tucson Estates and ordered 2 hot dogs with mustard relish and chopped onions to go. Simple. It cost $13 and change. Never again. I could have gotten a lunch of dynamite fried chicken and a doughnut next door, or a nice chinese lunch another door down, or a large mexican lunch further down for that price or less. Pros - THE MOST AMAZING HOT DOG I'VE EVER HAD! Cons - he's not open during the day Bruce Dogs is a hot dog stand located in the Brake Master parking lot. The Bruce Dog stand used to be located directly outside of TD's East, but some government folks made him move. Words cannot describe how wonderful his hot dogs are. When I go, I order "The Works". The Works comes with an all beef hot dog, mustard, mayo, spicy chili (the best chili ever), sauerkraut, onions, bacon bits, and much more goodness. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I have to plan a trip for Bruce Dogs every time I visit Tucson. Order additional dogs as you go, he'll keep a running tab for you. Soda cans are $.50. Be forewarned his chili is hot, if you're a noob, ask for "the back of the spoon" treatment. Your meal will come with good commentary, interesting people watching, and caring advice from Bruce. "What' the speed limit on Speedway? 35 mph. They don't mess around on Speedway." Thanks Bruce, for your wonderful hot dogs and the advice. P.S. You know, if you are a food truck fan, you just have to try Bruce Dogs at least once. He has crazy hours of business, basically from 8 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. In the Brake Masters parking lot. Suffice it to say, I could never hop over for lunch. I had to make a special trip. I grabbed my daughter, an intense hot dog fan, and we made that 20 minute drive for a tastin'. We both had the Bruce Dog. A hot dog with hummus, Chicago-style veggies, fakin' bacon chips, and his super hot chili ("The hottest chili in Tucson, no kidding," he says.). If you don't have enough courage for the full hotness (we didn't) he will "back spoon" some on, which is just wiping on a little with the back of the spoon. That was plenty hot, it turns out. It was OK. I prefer Sonoran dogs. My daughter thought it was good. I don't think it was anything that shouted out to me to return again for $3 a dog, but it was good. I will say that Bruce is colorful in story, PR chatter, and use of colorful words. Emphasis on colorful words. (Not too family friendly, if you get my drift.) You won't get that at a Der Wienerschnitzel! This Father's Day, he will have been doing this for 25 years! I salute him! read more

This is a broke down shack stationed right outside Brake Masters late at nights. This Jewish establishment has been cooling it since 1989 on Saturday's, Tuesday's, and Thursday's. Pretty good. I love finding great kosher places. Upon hearing that hot dogs were a big thing in Tucson, we were determined to find a hot dog place nearby our hotel. Thank you Yelp for leading us here. How amazing that it was kosher as well. I wouldn't say these are the best hot dogs I ever had...I'm a huge fan of Chicago style dogs (using Hebrew National for the meat). However, I found the hummus and Israeli salad topping refreshing and delicious. I asked for mine spicy, and it had a nice little kick! The man that made the dogs was super friendly too, which is always a huge plus in my book. I probably could have done without the facon (fake bacon) but I am one of those rare people that never liked the taste of bacon or bacon imitation products. The concept is simple... YOU WILL NEVER EAT A BETTER HOT DOG IN YOUR LIFE. Bruce is open Tues-Thurs, and Sat nights from around 8pm to 2am. he makes his hot dogs out of a normal looking cart outside of a brakemasters. Bruce is truly a great and reliable guy, but more importantly makes unbelievable hotdogs with his secret recipe. His prices haven't changed in over 20 years: $2 for a regular dog, $3 for a bigger polish dog, $4 for a bratwurst (huge), and $1 for any softdrink/juice/water. That is his whole menu. I am a college student, and my friends and I have been going to Bruce for about 3 years now, at least once a week, sometimes 3. Not one of us have ever gotten sick from his food. It seemed to be in kind of a sketchy place, surrounded by strip clubs and sex shops. My friend insisted that I try a hot dog. I know that everyone seems to love this place, but I was not really that impressed. Sure Bruce is a nice enough guy and his dogs are pretty tasty too. But I am disappointed in the service part. I go and look online and his hours say he is open a 7:00 pm, a bit late if you want a dog for dinner time but I not too bad.
