This place is great. Good price staff is friendly. Don't let the outdoor taco stand stop you from eating here in this crazy heat they have a building behind it with air. Lots of tables some pretty big. Full salsa bar. Only down side is it's cash only. That's how they are keeping price down but I never seem to have enough cash to get everything I want just to much to choose from lol read more

Not sure why this is labeled as "closed" on Yelp, but we went there yesterday and it is definitely still open! I've been here several times in the past year and have always been satisfied with my experiences there! Karamelo King is definitely a hole in the wall; all the food is made out of the trailer parked in the parking lot, and you have the option of dining in the building behind it if you choose. Their Sonoran hot dogs are standard, but make sure you get some of their tacos! In my opinion, the marinated pork tacos are the best, although the carne asada are decent as well. If it's a treat yoself day, get the tacos hass -- the extra mozzarella cheese and chili really do add the extra umph to the tacos! read more

Since moving to Tucson, we've often seen stands with Sonoran style hot dogs advertised; such places are often illumined with dim fluorescent lights playing against the smoke of grilling green onions and asada cuts of steak. Karamelo King is one such mobile edifice, offering probably the most delicious hotdog I've ever eaten in my life for $2.50. Since I'm originally from Chicago these may seem like bold words, but everyone we've taken to try this humble trailer's wares is an instant convert. With a standard salsa cart that includes the sliced radishes, cucumbers and 6-7 types of sauce, free grilled onions and a menu that spans the standard burro to the namesake "Karamelo" (essentially a quesidilla with juicy steak or chicken within), this spot caters to both midweek legitimate meal stops to 2 am cravings on Saturday night. Finding it may be tricky, since it resides in the parking lot of a now closed-down auto shop, but if you're heading west on Grant, just watch your right side after passing the intersection @ Alvernon. So, our good friends who live in Tucson took us here with very little persuasion. "It's small, but the flavors are amazing. Real Sonoran food." They weren't kidding. Barely a truck, set in front of a small room that apparently used to be a piñata store and now is a dining area, this place is outstanding. Mesquite grilled, no nonsense meat, put on house made tortillas - maiz or harina, depending on what you like. The Karamelo is amazing, and I highly recommend asada for your meat. They have habanero onions that are perfectly spiced, as well as a multitude of other condiments for your mouth. We live in California and haven't stopped talking about this spot since we returned. I've always been a huge advocate for the Karamelo King; their food is delicious and continues to be so. My gripe is with the size of the 7 dollar burrito I received on my latest visit. I went tonight with my son, he went up to order the cook told him wait 5 minutes hell be ready for him so my son came back to car. we were parked on the spot next to the food wagon. so, as my son sits down in car a woman, who is mexican and her two little girls, (my son is 6'3 and blonde and blue eyed) walked up to wagon, the man said to her"scary can I get for you" this is within 2 minutes of my son sitting down. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT. I WAS TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY. I think it was racist, disrespectful and I'll never ever patronize your food wagon again. read more

So I just finished an incredible feast of one Karamelo King and one Sonoran hot dog, and man am I stuffed. Just as before, I was blown away by how frikkin' good the caramelo was...yum! But as promised, I'm back to report about the hot dog. Basically, if you've ever had one of BK's Sonoran dogs, this is like the bigger, tastier, and more satisfying version of that. At $2.50, these things are definitely a fair deal, and they're also pretty darned good. They're not my favorites (that title still goes to Mr. Antojo by the UA campus), but they're definitely a solid offering. One of these alongside a Karamelo King ($7.00 total) will satisfy most appetites, and it's money very well spent. (Read my other review for the rest of the story) read more

YUM! The only thing bad about this place is the wait. No matter if there's one person ahead of you or 5 there is always an oddly long wait. But it's so worth it. The food at Karamelo King is still outstandingly delicious (amazing grilled flavor, tender tortillas, lots of fresh salsas and veggies to serve yourself) and I wish all caramelos were like the signature Karamelo King itself (flour tortilla, queso, carne asada, beans, grilled onions, avocado + a grilled chile on the side). It's also a rare late-night food option in Tucson. Great, cheap, and delicious street food. My boyfriend took me here after a night of drinking at the Shelter, I was skeptical, as street food can be iffy..but man did this hit the spot! I never experienced the art of the Karamelo...which is a flat tortilla with melted cheese and beef....YUM. We typically order 2 karamelo's, 2 sonoran hot dogs, and 2 cokes all for just about $10-$12. The King of Karamello. You haven't experienced food in tucson if you haven't been to this place. This place serves authentic, fresh, delicious Mexican food. I seriously never knew Mexican food was this good. If you don't believe me just look at the crowd that eats there. Like my Mexican friend says - you know it's good if you see Mexicans eating there. The people there are so friendly, and more importantly this is the kind of place your stomach will not allow you to forget after your debut. Order the steak Karamello, go big or go home. Don't make the noobie mistake of just eating it plain. They bring you the Karamello, you take it to the condiments section and put a little bit of everything. The taste and the exploding flavours are sublime. To top it off, get some Mexican cola made with real sugar, and enjoy a fantastic meal. It was a good day when they dropped this outfit onto that sorry stretch of Grant Rd.. This place is all right. We had 2 Sonoran hot dogs and the "karamelo king"- which is a flour tortilla with carne asade, cheese, avocado, and beans. We call these "sincronizadas" in my part of the world but I can adapt. I treated myself to a bottled sangria (or glorified grape soda) since I usually don't drink soda. The stand was really busy when we went. I was excited to see so many people as it made me think it would be a good experience. But I just thought the food was okay. Despite all the fillings in the hot dog and the karamelo, I thought everything was bland. Not good considering how many calories I consumed in this meal. I would probably still go back but only because this is the closest food cart to where I live and my food cart cravings hit me more often than not. read more

Best tacos ever!!! Comparing the prices of the tacos towards other Mexican restaurants, karamelos is a little bit cheaper but the flavors are top notch! I had the carne asada tacos and karamelos quesadilla and the flavors of those were perfect balanced. Their Sonoran hot dogs were pretty good also and is reasonably priced One of my favorite things about this place is although it is considered a food truck, there is an actual salsa bar and they try to keep it fresh by checking it every so often. read more

*LOCAL Patron- have eaten at Karamelo King since 2005* First let me tell you that this place is amazing, food wise, The *CARNE ASADA TACOS* are King* Flour is my go to. Having eaten here for over 13 years now I've tried it all, but those tacos are to die for. This place has changed a ton since I first began going. It is a food truck, with an outdoor grill separate from the actual food "stand". It has now become an actual sit down place with a converted store front that customers can sit inside and dine at. (Used to be outdoor picnic tables only- several years ago- but not any longer- and, yes they have a restroom with running water inside). The same family has always been there and running it since I began coming here, great people, great food, but the people who dine there are of course from all walks of life. *If you go in on a hardcore night expect it to be busy, expect the salsa bar to be a bit rough, the amount of people who come and go is absurd if you're actually aware of that exact fact* so don't condemn the short handed family on days like that, be aware that so many people flood this stand it's unreasonable to think that they can always maintain it with the on hand staff, given the location and during rush hour times. PS they stay open late on the weekends and yes this is THEE spot to go if you're local af and go out for food after the Tucson nightlife scene. The pico is ridiculously good, hope you like spicy, if you're boring though, the meat is bomb enough, guaranteed. Tons of pickled onions, carrots, peppers etc- and of course salsas. *parking can be a pain, again this is usually from people who don't know what's going on, because if you frequent this place, it's obvious how *not to park in this one driveway in & out lot, so be advised* *the family takes holidays off so don't go when there's a legit holiday aka Easter, Christmas, thanksgiving etc. sometimes in the summer I've seen them take vacay but it's rare* *clean up after yourself*, there are recycle racks for glass bottles, trash cans, and napkins, everyone eats at the same tables inside and the employees like I said can't maintain a rush of 50plus people in this small area, and it's more common then you might think, but if you go on a docile night, expect to get your food lightening fast. Don't get bent out of shape and be considerate, not a slob...families, young, old, students etc all eat here. well this will be the shortest review of a place that I have ever done. Stopped by here for the girl to get a burrito and it was a disaster. I asked for a beef bean and cheese burrito and I was told that they were out of beans and cheese. Then the menu said they had cabeza, so I tried to order that and was told they no longer have that either. So all in all this is the first food truck that I have ever just walked away from.
