Absolutely delicious!!! We've been driving by their restaurant for years and for some reason we haven't stopped in. But, now we will of course be heading into their brick and mortar! We were lucky to try multiple dishes during a festival from their food truck and everything was all so tasty, especially the tender meats, seasoned perfectly! The plantains were sweet, hot and hit the spot! Our group of friends shared the chicken jerk tacos and stew which was sensational! The service was also great considering they were very busy! While I was waiting in line I was able to watch the amazing process of putting everything together, rice, etc. This is a wonderful family owned business that creates the best Jamaican food around! Growing up in Miami, we had Jamaican restaurants all over. I never thought I'd find some of the most delicious curry goat and ackee and salt fish in Tucson of all places! I've you never had Jamaican food, fix that immediately and run to D's Island Grill. - Oxtail Fries: excellent in every sense - Ackee with Salt Fish & Dumplings: a little greasy but so flavorful and cooked to perfection - Curry Goat: fall off the bone perfection - Coco Bread: coconut flavor was a bit more sublime than expected so if you're not a coconut fan, still give this one a try. My wife and I had lunch at D's and had a great time. I've had the goat curry from their food truck at Tucson-Eat Yourself, but this was our first time at their brick and mortar location. There's a great coupon for 50% off an entree after you paying full price for one entree when you check in on the Yelp app. We got the jerk chicken and brown stew chicken lunch special. It came with rice with peas and steamed cabbage/ carrots. Both were delicious. The rice is a nice balance to the savory meat. Run don't walk!! Pictures barely do the food justice and you can't capture the flavor and seasoning incorporated into each dish. I'm truly blown away and can't wait to go back. I called ahead an order for takeout and originally intended to order the jerk chicken tacos, I think he heard jerk chicken combo on the phone but it's what I was supposed to have that night. Combo came with beans and rice, vinegar cole slaw, a generous portion of jerk chicken, and one of the coconut breads that I've never had before. I also ordered a beef patty and fried plantains. The chicken was perfect and slid off the bone (I wasn't expecting a whole chicken at first so there are small bones). The beef in the patty I can only describe as creamy and the pastry part was so flakey. The plantains were also perfectly caramelized and left little slightly chewy edges. I came here on a whim and it might have entered the top 25 things I've eaten. The owner was helpful and organized; the place itself is smaller with half the restaurant set aside for grocery. They do take card but there's a 5% fee, and it's a small local place I'd want to bring cash for next time so he doesn't have to deal with the transaction fees. The rice or Rice & Peas were really good. The veggies that came with the dish were well done. The Jerk chicken only comes in one level of hot. I can understand because of the marinade and prep time. I guess I could have added hot sauce, but I didn't see a Scotch bonnet or Habanero hot sauce that would go well with the Jerk chicken. Doesn't look like much in the small plaza that it is in, but the outdoor decorations walking into the restaurant are so boldly Jamaican, it's amazing. The SMELL once you come inside is SO good. My friend and I came here on recommendation, and it is honestly a hidden gem in Tucson. The night we came was super cold and chilly, so I ordered the oxtail stew, while my friend ordered the jerk chicken. Needless to stay, the oxtail warmed me up, in my body and soul. The meat was so flavorful, seasoned to perfection, and was oh so tender that it was falling off the bone. My friend's jerk chicken was also delicious, the meat was so juicy and the skin was so flavorful. He also ordered the watermelon splash drink, which was delicious and refreshing, the perfect compliment to the meal. The service was fast and friendly, and the food came out within 10 minutes of us ordering. I would highly recommend this place to anyone trying to get a taste of the Caribbean in the desert! My first time here and I am so pleased. I ordered brown stew chicken, a beef patty, and jerk wings. If you are afraid of spice and flavors stay away. The man who took my order was so nice and explained everything. My meal came with something called a Festival. It's like a sweet fried dough. It complimented the spiciness of the food so well. The gal who served us was friendly, granted she looked like she was in high school or younger so it seemed a bit like child labor. I ordered the chicken curry plate. The chicken was dry and was more bone than meat, the rice and vegetables were bland, and the festival (fried dumpling) was fine. Maybe one less scoop of rice and more chicken or veggies would be nice. I had to add table salt to everything, which I never do.
