Stopped in here in the afternoon for some lunch with the family on Christmas. The waiter was very attentive to customer need. Once we walked in the only table available was the table closest to the door. Due to the cold weather in Brooklyn, the waiter recommend us to sit away from the door since it let in a cold breeze. The restaurant is very small and has very tight spacing between each table. Food Order: Appetizer Sampler of three meat, Salted Fish and Minced Meat Rice Casserole, Preserved Meat Rice Casserole, Frog Rice Casserole, Congee with Dry Fish and Jelly Fish, Congee with Fish Slices, Rice Noodle with parsley, Rice Noodle with Shrimp and vegetable. (Pictures are attached) I highly recommend the rice noodles. These are fresh and made once the order is place. it is quick and fresh unlike the one pre-made for dim sum. The rice casserole is something that is rare in Brooklyn. It come in a clay pot and has it own soy sauce. The congee has no MSG added and the favor really show. No frills cantonese style diner that has the traditional BBQ roast meats, soup noodles, cheong funs, and their infamous clay pots. My boyfriend and I stopped by one weekend afternoon to grab a quick lunch and was surprised with the amount of people here. We were lucky enough to arrive right before the crowd and got seated pretty quickly (the people that arrived 5 minutes after us were not so lucky). The menu is pretty and similar to other canton restaurants. We ordered the 2 roast meats appetizer (duck and roast pork), char siu cheong fun (flat rice noodles), and a preserved meat clay pot rice. Their clay pots takes at least 20 minutes to prepare so make sure you order other food or it'll be a long wait. The apps arrived pretty quickly. The roast pork was a good balance between fat/lean and the skin was extra crispy! The duck on the other hand was a bit oily than I would prefer it to be. The cheong fun tasted so fresh! It tasted as if they made the cheong fun itself; thin and soft but still hard enough to not fall apart with all the stuffing inside. Then the clay pot rice came! They were extra generous with the amount of ingredients they put on top and the rice on the bottom had a great char making it extra crispy. I absolute cannot wait to come back! If you are looking to eat here with a party of more than two, you're going to have a long wait. I came here with 5 people and it was extremely hard to get a table since this was a puny spot and is usually packed with people. Other parties got priority over us since they had fewer people and it was easier to sit them. The food itself was really good. I'd recommend any of their congee, fried rice, or chow mien dishes. Most of the main dishes is enough to share between at least two people, so don't go crazy ordering multiple items. As soon as we sat down, we got hot tea! My father and I were very pleased by that. We did not wait long. I got the congee beef and my father got wonton noodle soup. There's congee at all hours. This restaurant also has casserole, noodles and meats hanging in the window. Once you make it past the mob of people crowding around the cash register and take out, flag down a waiter. Speak in Cantonese to say how many people are in your party, and ask for a freaking number to be called. Then circle like a vulture next to the table you want to sit at. There's a lot of breach in personal space, so be ready to knock elbows or feet with complete strangers. King's Kitchen has only been opened for a short while (less than a week I write with my review), but this place is seriously not suited for being a dinner location, with the amount of people being interested in this location. The location to me feels one step away from being a hole in the wall in terms of size. Lunch perhaps, but dinner is a definite no! At this point, it is pretty short staffed and an annoyance for me was there was a need for cleaner utensils. I noticed that my fork was dirty and asked for a new fork. I shared shrimp rice noodles, parsley rice noodles, cha siew pork rice noodles, congee with beef and fried dough stick. The shrimp rice noodles and beef congee are the better ones to choose from if you're indecisive. You could tell the rice noodles are freshly rolled the moment you take a bite because of how soft it is. There's 2 pieces of pork in each of the cha siew rice noodles. I thought there would be more and it would be cut up more, but it was just placed in there like it was cut right off the board. They offer roasted duck and pork at the window front, you can order according to how much you want and they'll cut it up for you. Overall this joint is pretty ordinary, service is okay. I actually like this place! Everything is so cheap and affordable, good for someone like me who makes enough to eat out lol. The place is a bit small. The two time I went was packed with people, which is a good sign! The first time I went, my mom got the rib rice casserole and I got the yellow eel rice casserole. The rib casserole was good. I didn't really like the eel one, I think it had too much parsley? taste to it. I think I was too hungry and dug in too quickly, I burned my tongue. I ordered the 3 meat combo, and what showed up was straight trash. The portions were abysmal. The roasted pork didn't have any skin on it. The bbq pork was just bits of scrap and ends. And the worst was the cuttle fish. It was spoiled and literally stank up my house. It's my favorite, so I ate a piece right after opening the box and didn't realize it tasted funny until it was too late. I might get food poisoning. The congee itself was very good (they give a lot!) and all for $4, with a side of crueller and dough crueller wrapped cheung fun. Those were all very good and it definitely made me feel better. I had the Preserved Meat Rice Casserole. Tons of Chinese Bacon and Chinese Sausages. The Preserved Meat infuses the rice with flavor. Rice was well cooked. I highly recommend this dish. I also had the Poached Egg with Minced Meat Rice Casserole. A very flavorful minced meat. Poached Egg was cooked just right. This dish is not as fatty as the preserved meat dish. Both rice casseroles were cooked perfectly. Nothing was burnt on the bottom. They had so much flavor to it. The presentation is nice as well. Rice Casserole dishes are served on a small clay pot. Everything is cooked in it and you eat out of it. Easy cleaning. I also had the shrimp rice noodles. Very freshly made like if you were at a dim sum restaurant. Because the clay pot can take longer, I suggest you order the clay pot first. We typically also order the shrimp in the rice noodle some roast meat and veggies to keep the Hangry at bay. When your clay pot finally arrives, it is EXTREMELY hot. You add in the sauce and a satisfying sizzle emanates from the depth of your cauldron. Mix that bad boy up and manger! I ordered the wonton roast pork noodle soup and when I received my order, I got abundant pieces of roast pork but the meat was so dry, no matter how much they had given me, it was dry with no flavor. With most restaurants that serve cold cuts, some days it's a hit, some days it's a miss - it has been consistently good with Kings Kitchen. They also offer congee and a variety of noodles if you're not in the mood for rice that day. My personal favorite is the stone pot rice. There aren't many places that still serve that nowadays. It's always delicious, especially with the soy sauce. As always, it's super duper cheap to eat here, and for 2 people, your bill will usually come out to about $20 with drinks and a side. I used to get rice casserole in Chinatown; however, that is pretty far to go just to satisfy my rice casserole craving. Kings Kitchen rice casserole is pretty decent. Their congees are pretty decent as well. If you order the rice casserole to go and want the pot with it, it is an additional $2 deposit. They return the $2 when you return the pot. The services are very efficient and depending on the time you go, the wait can either be short or long. But, it is not tooo bad. My friends and I were hungry around MIDNIGHT one time and YAY they were still open! How awesome is that?! I am not sure if we were lucky that day and it just happened to open late because according to Yelp, it closes at 9pm.
