This place has gone down hill. I order from Doordash now. Their prices have gone up! And they want change the prices on Doordash. Once you order they upcharge you and say the prices have changed. She just picked up the wash cloth that was dripping wet, laughed and walked off and didn't say anything. I guess she just expected me to keep eating the food because when I complained she got mad. Also, the food is super cheap. The food, however, was inedible. The egg rolls were so greasy that they had that see-through quality. My boyfriend's shrimp fried rice smelled gross and the shrimp looked like canned shrimp. My beef with broccoli also smelled unappetizing. We each took a bite and felt mildly ill and could not eat it. I love this place. They are really nice, though slightly awkward. I love going here, and no matter how slow or busy they are, you could walk in, sit down, eat, pay and be on your way well under half an hour. Its also cheap. And depending on what you want, can be really cheap, or cheap enough. (Granted I only speak of the lunch specials). For instance today I waddled out for 4.54 (including a buck tip). Wanted Chinese but the place we love was too far since I had to work in an hour. My boyfriend grew up in this area and has been eating here since a kid. I will say it is your hole in the wall type place, service is fast and portions are large. I ordered the orange chicken with white rice. The sauce was not over bearing with orange and was good flavor, but I couldn't eat much as every time I bit into a piece of chicken, I was eating cartilage. Grossed out, I only ate a few pieces. Good things come in small packages. That's always what comes to mind when I think of this place. It doesn't look like much (like, it REALLY doesn't look like much. It's in Alief, and true-to-Alief form, it's in a ghetto-looking plaza, along with several random businesses), but my family's been ordering take-out from King Wok ever since we moved to Houston a decade ago. They're definitely doing something right....probably because you're getting good food for a steal! I've only dined in 2-3 times, but service is great. King Wok isn't usually busy, so the servers are extremely attentive and, although meek, very friendly as well. I enjoy their wonton soup. It may seem a little boring and bland to some (it's basically wonton dumplings, green onion, spinach, and broth), but I have a thing with honest-tasting food. And it doesn't get anymore honest than that soup. Other tasty selections: their sweet & sour shrimp and egg foo yung. When I moved down here to Houston my now-wife took me there one day and I have been hooked ever since. You get big portions and a GREAT price, even better if you go for their lunch specials. From the day I went in there, and from as long as she can remember the same old guy works the greeter stand where you pay, most likely the owner and his wife is one of the servers there. They are most likely the owners and are as nice as you can be. The other servers that work there are as friendly and fast as can be as well. If you come in and order take-out it never takes more than 15 minutes, which is nice if you chose not to call ahead. As for the food, I thought I ate some outstanding Chinese food out in the Seattle area, but this place blows anything away from out there. In fact, it is the best I have ate anywhere period! I have been coming to King Wok for more than 20 years, and the quality and value has been consistant in this quaint Mom and Pop Chinese restaurant. The lunch specials are so inexpensive, I don't know how these folks make money. My favorite lunch specials are Garlic Beef with Green Beans, and Beef with Broccoli. My favorite menu item is Cantonese Chow Mein. Crisply fried egg noodles topped with beef, BBQ pork, chicken, shrimp and mushrooms, baby corn and other veggies in a brown sauce. I think this place has maintained its quality because these are the original cooks and they are authentic(Chinese) Not just trained to cook chinese like in lots of other establishments.
