King Taco... we need to talk. How does it take 20 minutes for tacos with no line? That's longer than a sit-down meal no waiter, no chips. The process feels stuck in the '80s: You order. You wait. The ticket takes a scenic trip to the kitchen. Then your order gets read back like it's brand new. I'm thinking, "Didn't I already say all this? Should I just start over?" For a chain this big, it's time for a modern POS and a smoother kitchen flow. Customers shouldn't wonder if their tacos are being made or if the cook clocked out mid-order. King Taco remains the undisputed champion of tacos in my book. Their Al pastor tacos and asada sope are absolute favorites, and the red salsa adds just the right amount of kick. The green salsa is also a winner, pairing perfectly with my asada sope. I appreciate how they double-check my order before preparing it. Nothing like a classic when it comes to King Taco! Been coming to this location since my middle school days after partying at the club. You can't go wrong with an all meat carne asada burrito, Al pastor sope, carnitas and buche tacos with a large horchata to wash it down. Definitely get the spicy red sauce to layer on your food. King Taco used to be my favorite place for tacos and burritos but I rarely visit this restaurant or location as it is ALWAYS crowded. The location itself is large and clean, their entire menu clearly posted, and there is no shortage of signage announcing new items. The huge negatives for me are the taste of the food and the portion sizes which both have gone down yet prices have definitely gone up since my last visit. I can deal with the tight parking and having my truck doors dinged, I can deal with long lines as this is a very popular location or the dude employees who hand out the food when you request any additional items such as a fork, extra napkins etc.. My comfort meal! I love getting their Asada nachos but adding refried beans, cilantro/onion, and their delicious salsa roja. Next time I'm thinking about adding some cotija and repollo. We drive over an hour to this location all the time. Yes, over ONE HOUR. That is a huge statement. Their asada is honestly unmatched. It's always so flavorful, and fresh! If you're starving, it's recommended you make an order ahead of time in order to skip the wait. The wait can take well over thirty minutes. You order outside by the windows, unless you are ordering their roasted chicken which is ordered inside. You tell the cashier what you would like, you pay and they give you a number which will be called in the next window/s when your order is ready. Once your order number is called, you retrieve it and you can ask for salsas, but not lemon as that is something this Mexican restaurant does not carry. If you are a person that's really into lemon/lime, I recommend you bring your own from home. If you want to be wowed, get 4 asada tacos. Their red salsa is very spicy but delicious. Their green salsa is more mild but delicious as well. I've tried their lengua, it's also good and the pastor. But the star of the show is truly the asada. If you're in the mood for some cravings, get the asada nachos. They are a huge portion, and very tasty. Enjoy! read more

The taste was okay, but used to be much better. The Salas was tasty and the spicy one was particularly so. Sad to see from this local institution in this area. The area is sketchy at best. Went to this King Taco location because it's such a popular spot, but unfortunately this was the worst customer service I've ever received anywhere. The staff always seem upset, unfriendly, and quick to give attitude, which makes the experience really uncomfortable. Today was especially disappointing because it honestly felt like our food was being intentionally held before being handed to us, and by the time we started eating just a few minutes later, everything was already cold. This used to be my go-to spot back in grad school. Now I'm left wondering what happened. We used to joke about coming here instead of Pasadena to get more authentic flavor. I take back those words now. I guess I should've realize something changed when parking, used to be always full and difficult, was quite sparse on a Saturday. I thought it might've been just the new overflow lots but maybe people just aren't dining in anymore. The service has really gone downhill. I know numbers aren't called in exact order, but others kept getting called ahead of me. I went up twice and got waved away. Finally they took a good look and asked me to wait by window 2. No idea what that was about. I went inside to ask for a cup of water and was told that the machine wasn't working. It's no wonder there was only a few people sitting around the table. It feels like they just want you to take your order and go. The restaurant vibe was very sterile and off putting. When I walked up to window 2, I could see huge stacks of orders behind the counter. I'm assuming there was a combination of online, phone, and in-person orders. It was overwhelming just watching the tickets spit out, but the staff was just casually lining them up. What I thought would be a 15-minute quick bite turned into over an hour of waiting. I don't know how I felt about it all to be honest. It's just tacos. I'm not expecting a fast food drive through experience. But there is a point when I do wonder if I should've gone elsewhere. They used to be generous with the salsa too. Now it feels like you have to beg for regular servings. I get paying for extra, but there's a fine line between managing costs and poor customer service. I still think King Taco's carne asada is something special, unreplicated by other spots. But maybe it also depends on the location. I might stick to the El Monte locations going forward. I see few reasons to make my way back here especially I don't live that close to here anymore. This place holds good memories for me. Holiday time Review: - if you're coming during the holidays, please note that they do close early at usually 3 PM. So don't be late because they will cut people off and won't be allowing orders anymore after they close the windows. This spot is an la classic. Post event this is the spot to go to. It closes at 3am so you already know that this spot will be poppin post clubbing. I typically get their carne asada burritos but at 3am pretty much anything is good here. The service is great even at 3am I would recommend coming to this spot. read more

We stopped for some late night tacos after a Dodger game and unfortunately were disappointed. The food just wasn't good, we had tacos (lengua, al pastor, & chicharron), a sope, and nachos with asada. The asada was tough, chewy, and had no flavor, I just ate the chips with the cheese. All the others meats were just ok but not at King Taco standards, well at least not the King Taco I know. I pass by it all the time and I've really been craving it for awhile now. I finally had the opportunity to stop by and try out some delicious dishes. The Pina Grande Con Hielo is a very refreshing pineapple drink. I would recommend asking to try some samples of different drinks. They give you some generous samples of different drinks. I try the horchata and it was quite good, but I didn't want something that sweet. The Pineapple is also sweet, but in a different way. I asked for some recommendations in what to order and ended up ordering everything that was recommended to me. The Burro Asada Con Todo was delicious. It was great tasting burrito. Throw some of that green salsa on there and I couldn't stop dipping the burrito in that delectable green salsa. The red salsa was too spicy for my liking, but if you have a higher tolerance to spice then this salsa would be your salsa of choice. I ordered 3 tacos and they were all very good in their own right. The chicharron was different than anything that I had before. It was very fatty and flavorful. I also liked the Chicharron the best, but the Asada and Carnitas were also very good. I heard that Sope Asada was something to try as well. It was also very good. It reminded me of an English Muffin (pretty basic thing to say). It was loaded with Asada and giant clumps of cheese. I will definitely be back to King Taco and I would order every item again. Prepare to wait as the lines can get quite long, but they are quick and efficient. After a night out in the Downtown Arts District, we stopped by this King Taco on our way home. Luckily, the line was short, we waited about 10 minutes to order and got our food in around 15. The interior dining area was pretty empty, which was nice since we didn't feel rushed. We also noticed a stand outside with a vendor selling churros and funnel cake, nice little bonus if you've got a sweet tooth. As always, the food hit the spot. I've visited/ate at a few different king tacos locations, but this location by far is the nicest looking one I've ever been to. I really appreciated how clean & well taken care of the entire restaurant was. Lots of indoor & outdoor seating available which is always great. Ideal for large groups. The water fountain adds a nice touch as well. At 8 am I was 1 of the first customer to arrive & order, but shortly after it started to get more busy & form a line. The workers were kind/polite & my order of tamales came out quickly. I was extra happy when I found out they had champurrado at this location unlike others I've been too. King Taco is always crowded because they don't hire enough people so the wait is long, they need to deal with this or the reviews will suffer. Parking is easy in the lot. You go in, wait in line, order at the counter and pick up your food there. Most everything is great. Don't get to fancy, stick with the tacos and burritos. They are the best. They are served to order, hot and ever so good. The service is very nice, but don't expect table service. The place is super clean and is open late, which we love. King Taco has been around for years and many of us have been going there since we were kids. You will love this place. It is cute. It is fast food made really well. read more

I've been told by so many people to try King Taco but what the food was mediocre at best. I got the combination burrito with al pastor because that's my go-to and I tacked on a carne asada taco on the side since they have taco in their name so I assumed it was one of their signature items. The ratio of meat to other ingredients, especially rice, wasn't the best in the burrito but the rice did have a lot of flavor. When I did get a bite or the pastor, it was marinated well but it couldn't distract from the very dry flour tortilla. The asada in the taco was good but the tortillas were once again dry and leathery that I needed to add a lot of salsa to make it come alive. Speaking of salsas, both the green and red ones were delicious and definitely the savior of the meal. There's plenty of seating both outdoors and indoors and the service was efficient when we went on a Friday afternoon. I think a lot of people have nostalgia when eating at King Taco which I understand is what makes it good to them. However, as someone tried it for the first time, I wouldn't go out of my way to come back knowing there's a lot of better street tacos nearby from local vendors. read more

Decidedly meh food that definitely doesn't live up to all the hype surrounding it. I can see why it gets packed during weekends-the menu is extensive and very reasonably priced. However, there's other taco spots that serve the exact same food, but with just a little more care to kind service and not as frugal on toppings and condiments. Parking is in the lot to the side of the restaurant, or on the streets. The seating area is big, but without a large crowd or any background noise or music can feel sad and isolating. I ordered a lengua nachos, and I can say it was very whelming. The cheese looked like it was sadly just sitting on top of the chips instead of being infused throughout, and the one or two scoops of lengua meat seemed sparse compared to the amount of nachos there was. And no cilantro and diced onions to be found! It tasted just ok, but nothing to rave about. I definitely felt that for the price, there would be a little more of everything but chips. If you can find other taco spots around, give them a try before circling back here. It gets the job done, but it may not be what you'd expect. read more

It's the original, the OG, it's the place where my future father-in-law finished testing me... Roughly 14 years ago, when I was dating my now wife, she wanted to introduce me to her dad. Gulp! I guess she wanted to get serious and knew her dad had to approve. Fair enough. We had a night planned that included meeting her dad, obviously, her half sister, then on to "back to disco night" at Luminarias where her uncle was deejaying. My first test started out with some quick questions about how we met and what I did for a living followed by tequila shots...3 shots, no problem... to start, uh oh... With my wife the DD and she and her sister up front in the BMW, I was in back with her dad and the grilling began. It was the usual questions followed by some of the usual warnings like don't hurt my daughter or break her heart type of stuff and be a good provider... The night continued with dancing and more shots and finally ended, or at least what I thought was ending, at King Taco (KT). This location off of 3rd Street in East LA by the train tracks has a long history. It was and is the de facto after hours hang out if you're hungry after a night of clubbing or partying. The parking lot is a good size, but the later it gets, the more crowded it gets. You'll see all sorts of rides, from rat rods to low riders to bombs to lifted Jeeps to mini vans. Every car had a story and every customer a memory of KT. I had never been here at that point and my father-in-law did the ordering, all in Spanish, of course. If my buzz wasn't getting me, the salsa roja (red hot sauce), kicked me in the ass. My al pastor tacos con todo (with onions and cilantro) and salsa roja were my final test. Yes, I sweated it through and enjoyed what would ultimately be my most favorite type of tacos. I've been to almost every KT location from Compton to Long Beach to Pasadena to Baldwin Park, Maywood, South El Monte and Pico Rivera to LA on Olympic and of course, this location on 3rd. Every location is consistently good, but this location means more to me. It's where I got my now father-in-law's approval and my wife's admission that I was THE guy. I mean, she wouldn't have gone to all the trouble of having me meet her dad if I wasn't the one. And KT, that night, made al pastor THE taco for me... Just now with the green, salsa verde...
