A really good hole in the wall! Great authentic Mexican food. Many places can't to Chilaquiles right but this place can. Friendly staff and looks like a popular place. There wasn't a menu but they have all the stuff.

As a resident of Boyle Heights, I've been eating here with my dad for over 20 years and it has been the best place to eat for that long. With Manuel's up the street this place is mostly for locals, but I welcome anyone to try the tacos or the Menudo/Posole on Saturday and Sunday. For over 20 years the service has been great and the inside is a classic East LA restaurant.

Used to come here, now the tacos are looking sad and skinny :-( The food is good. Hope it's just a small oversight.

This place is literally a dive in the hood and with Ranchera music playing it takes you back to Mexico... So many 5 Star reviews leaves me scratching my head, even if I were drunk I wouldn't rate this food that high... must be all the Chicano's that don't know proper Mexican food. Tacos are served plain and wrapped in a paper, onions, cilantro y salsa is served to your table. Was charged $5 for 3 tacos Birria (Chivo) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-estrella-restaurant-los-angeles-2?select=U7bytKBBIFT6JCHEfkeYMw&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg A lot of fat left on a taco! 2-Stars Carne Asada https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-estrella-restaurant-los-angeles-2?select=GbRx54mlQhmzZpH_DIvAGg&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg Nicely grilled lean meat good flavor 4-Stars Al Pastor https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-estrella-restaurant-los-angeles-2?select=9v8TUVrgmrR1fKoEoes_lA&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg NO Trompo here, very greasy and lacking and spices you'd find in pastor. 1-Star Birria - Chivo ($11.00) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-estrella-restaurant-los-angeles-2?select=Tx61MFTVaas_ISd3BHJ3TA&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg The consomme was clean and flavor was ok, good amount of meat, fat and bones https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-estrella-restaurant-los-angeles-2?select=8XMb030mdI4H3fBSHxZ27w&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg definitely not close to the better Birria's in town but it was ok. 3.5-Stars Tortillas - https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/la-estrella-restaurant-los-angeles-2?select=xbgE4lX9XJAzukaaenjUtw&userid=mXl8GMozjLoraG7PyFHWkg Made fresh in house was very good. After shopping at Food-4-Less we were very hungry, I decided to check my Yelp app to check out any good restaurants around Boyle Heights. I know my wife and I went Otomisan restaurant on Saturday it's just two blocks away from Food -4-Less that was a great meal. I notice one restaurant on my Yep app that my brother told me to go La Estrella Restaurant also in Boyle Heights. My brother told me they good tacos and burritos and other Mexican dishes. . I told my wife let's go to La Estrella when she say ok. . When we arrive at the restaurant we were looking the menu on the wall and then the waitress told us are going to dine in or take out, we told her dine in she told us seat any where and be there to serve you. We been many restaurants and they hand you a menu on thevspot. Butt this place have their menu on the wall with prices to the item. We decided to get two burritos de carne asada for both of us. The restaurant is nice it feel like, you are in Mexico in a good way. The waitress brought us our burritos and a bowl of slice radish and limes to add to the burrito. The burrito was a good size we took a bite of the carne asada burrito it was really good with a good flavor in the meat. One thing that my wife and I notice in the burrito was the hot sauce wow that sauce have a major kick to out taste buds overall burrito was really good. Find these restaurant in Boyle Heights or E.L.A and surrounding areas the food is inexpensive and really good sometime, you to explore different and try different culinary cuisine.

Seriously, some of the best tacos east of DTLA; especially if you're looking for a late night spot during the weekend. Don't be discouraged by the hole-in-the-wall look. They have different offerings depending on the day of the week such as menudo, pozole, fish soup, and more. If you're feeling especially fatty, order a quesadilla with your choice of meat - totally worth it!

Food was great and tacos were big and full of meat. One taco here is like 2 tacos elsewhere, so remember that when ordering.

We kicked things off with the queso fundido, and wow, it was absolutely delicious! Rich, melty, and packed with flavor, it was the perfect way to start the evening. For my entrée, I ordered the cochinita pibil, which was incredibly tender and saucy in the best way. My husband ordered the short rib, and it was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. On the side, we shared the papas bravas and esquite, both of which complemented our dishes perfectly. The drinks truly elevated the night. My husband and I both love mezcal, and Kateen delivered. I ordered the Valentine's Day "Zona Romántica," which featured mezcal and wine almost like a sangria, but completely unique and beautifully balanced. My husband had the "Gypsy Fever," also mezcal-based, and it was smoky, smooth, and refreshing. Between the food, cocktails, and ambiance, it made for such a romantic and memorable evening. We'll absolutely be back!!

However, the reason I'm giving 2 stars is because of the valet parking experience. First, I was charged $25 even though the sign clearly stated that valet parking is $17 for the first 3 hours, and $25 after 3 hours. Our reservation was at 6:30 PM, we arrived on time, and we left before 9 PM, so the charge did not make sense. When I asked the valet attendant, he kept saying, "because you dined there," without giving any clear explanation. If it is actually a flat rate for restaurant guests, then that should be clearly stated upfront to customers. Second, when I got into my car, I noticed that someone had touched the navigation settings because the compass direction and display were different from what I normally use. I do not understand why there was any need to adjust or touch my navigation system at all. I really think the restaurant needs to improve and better manage its valet parking system. Honestly, it felt like I was being charged a random price just because I was told, "you dined there." If there is a flat valet rate for restaurant guests, that information should be clearly communicated upfront instead of leaving customers confused at the end.

Beautiful plants hanging, perfect Spanish music in the background (any place playing Natalia LaFourcade is a win). The drinks were great! I had the jungle bird which was fun. Food was so good too. The whipped beans are the star! We had the guacamole which was tasty, great tostadas with it. The arepas were good but the pork belly was a little too fatty (I know pork belly is always fatty) to the point the fat muted the flavored for the arepa a bit, but still delicious. The empanadas were great and as someone who lived in South America and ate empanadas every day, these really took me back to my Paraguay days. The squash blossoms were light and perfectly fried. Unfortunately my friends had gone to Funke the night before so they were comparing the squash blossoms and Funke won out, but they still liked Dama's! Small plates were enough for the 3 of us.
