Went here on a random evening with a van full of my friends.. yes i drove my mom's van and we were a house load. Coming from Cortlandt to where is this place Katonah borderline?.. well it was rather annoying having to trek there when Mickey Donalds has dollah dollah bill cones ya'll (sans the sprinkles option.) I had a vanilla soft serve w choco sprinkles. A lot of ice cream and tons of sprinkles that ended up all over me and I was still finding them in my hair the next day. Dafuq? King Kone is a cute little ice cream shack located just off Route 100 by Katonah and Somers. Parking is terrible, but that aside, it's a great local spot- especially in the summer- to grab a yummy, cost-friendly cone. There are tons of flavors to choose from- mostly hard- and each one is equally good! I enjoy personally the low fat raspberry chocolate chip yogurt. I finally got to visit my favorite kind of food shack! I've been hearing about it and missing the occasion to join my friends so I was really excited! The lobster roll platter came with fries and coleslaw, and they were all good! Fries were crispy, and even though I tend to be disappointed with coleslaws (because they are often too sweet), the coleslaw here went perfectly with the fries and the roll! I didn't expect to get to dessert, but I went with the flow and had a cup of soft serve twist. The soft serve was relatively harder than the ones I had at other places but they were still very smooth and pleasant. The calories must have been outrageous but I don't regret going all in for the one visit tonight :D read more

Never did I imagine a ice cream spot to serve food BUT they do and it's great. They have a lot outside seating, but be prepared to get eat alive by the mosquitoes and small bugs. Saw the review in 2017 Westchester Magazine and I must say their Soft Ice Cream was smooth and tastefully delicious!! especially the Vanilla Cone with rainbow sprinkles of course. This place reminded me of my trips to "Mister Softy" for soft ice cream with my mother when I was a kid growing up in the Bronx - Yum! Yum! The only strange thing I found about this place was that they were selling hot food burgers and fries etc; at the next window of the same establishment - but I guess they need other income if they are going to be open all-year-round. The soft serve is wonderful, 5 stars for that. Unfortunately, we decided to eat lunch before the ice cream, and it was terrible. I guess I just expect a burger to come with the traditional toppings -- lettuce, onion, tomato. The gal asked what kind of cheese I wanted, but nothing else. When I got the burger, it was just a sad little patty with cheese on a plain bun. I was able to add ketchup and mustard at the condiment station but nothing else. It was dry and not very tasty. During the summer I do a lot of hiking and try to look for a nearby ice cream stand or store. I get milkshakes so I can keep driving. This place charges about the same for milkshakes as other places, not cheap at about $5 plus tax, but they use a smaller cup than any other place I've tried. The strawberry shake was ok, nothing special, but I handed it back to the not terribly friendly kid at the window and told him to tell the person who made it to *fill it up to the top*. I've never had a shake that wasn't filled nicely, all the way to the top. So the cup is the smallest I've seen for the price and they couldn't even fill it up. read more

I was looking for a place to stop off on our way back to NYC from Barton Orchards in Poughquag, NY. I didn't want an actual "sit-down" place since we were all dusty, sweaty and tired after a long day on apple picking. I saw great reviews on King Kone and seeing that it was a good midway point between the orchards and NYC, I decided to give it a shot. They are CASH ONLY, but there is an ATM there. There is also a 7-11 almost right across the street and an ATM in there as well. There was plenty of parking on a Sunday afternoon in the small lot and I saw that some cars were parked alongside the road which seemed to be fine. Lots of benches there that the staff is always wiping down. A small play area with a sandbox. The menu is great, as they have a great range of items. Fries, burgers, hot dogs, shrimp, calamari, ALLIGATOR?! amongst other items. The burgers by the way a very sizeable and come in a large bun, so don't expect typical fast food sized burgers here. You order your food and are given a number which is then called from the side window (food pickup). At the food pick up window is a small table with condiments, onions, relish and other fixings for your food. Food was very tasty. The service was also amazing. I would really like to make it a point that all the staff there are great. Everyone was super helpful and patient and really took time to explain everything, especially for us first-timers. I was told at the time of food pickup that they were going to bring me a chicken wing, since one dropped on the floor in the kitchen...and a few minutes later, they brought it out. I mean...that alone tells you what type of business they run. Be sure to save room for the ice cream. Quite a wide selection of ice cream that you can have in cups, cones, or even large pints/quarts to take home. Pumpkin, Apple Pie and Holy Cannoli were some of the unusual flavors that I have not had or seen anywhere else before, but samples all here and they were great. Prices were also very reasonable...especially for the food that you get. Even though we are 30 minutes away, I am more than willing to make the drive up there for a bite. read more

I have been going to King Kone for years. But unfortunately, for a long time, I remember it less as the King of Ice Cream and more as the King of Bees. Yup, for a long time, King Kone had a jungle gym infested with bees. I believe I got stung more than once. Now, the jungle gym is gone, the bees have found a new home, and the ice cream is just as good. Totally, totally solid soft serve at reasonable prices for the Tri-State. I really love its homey, rural atmosphere that makes me forget that I'm in the suburbs. A suggestion, do not get the hard serve. This is a soft serve summer joint, and go with their best! read more
