Upon our arrival, there was plenty of parking both in front of the casino, and in an adjoined parking garage. The exterior of the casino was clean and appeared quite safe. This was an easy casino to access both from downtown Carson City and it was easy to get back on the main highway. While all of the Reno/Carson City casinos seemed pretty similar to me, I appreciated this one due to the non-smoking area. During my four days in the area, I experienced many casinos, and I couldn't get away from the smoke smell in most of them. In this casino, there is a well-ventilated non-smoking area just to the right side of the front door. I popped in there and would have felt comfortable for a good period of time without being bothered by smoke. For those who enjoy gambling and may be affected by smoke, I highly recommend that you visit Fandango and see if you enjoy the experience as much as I did.

Restaurant review - oishi sushi in Carson City NV…read more It's evacuation time! At the time of this writing the Hawk fire is going on and a group of us evacuees wanted some sushi in Carson City. Keep in mind, we were HUNGRY, as it had been a really hectic busy couple of days. Two options presented themselves, both in the same parking area, and Oishi was one of them. However, I had questions, So I called. Do they have soy wrap, since my wife doesn't eat nori? Yes. And, are they ADA compliant, as my wife has a ACL tear and is in a wheelchair? They said yes. And so we told our friends to head to Oishi and we would meet them there. Found out quickly the restaurant was baaaarely ADA compliant. It was Very, very narrow, and hard to navigate with a wheel chair. If there are people sitting in tables, everyone has to get up and move in order to get the chair around. So, just a little awkward, before we even get to the table. Which we finally get to. We ordered drinks at 5:40. Drained my tea at 6pm....and didn't get a refill till 6:17. A Buddy ordered cold sake at 5:40 as well.... but never got it. He Asked again at 6:17, and finally got it at 6:26. We turned in our food order slip at 5:50pm. First food to arrive was Miso soup at 6:05. Honestly one of the better miso soups I've had from places like this. Perfectly salted and seasoned. Green onion and a little kombu as well. I dig it. Bunch of apps got to the table at 6:21. First was Tempura tofu. Crispy crunchy hot tofu cube served with sweet chili sauce. Good stuff, though the tofu itself wasn't marinaded or anything. Still, not bad. Yakiton, stuffed with crab salad and sweet sauce on top. Big size, satisfying. Like a giant crab salad egg roll. Potsickers. Crispy crunchy edges but tender filling.... really nice. Crab ball was pretty great too! Like a giant crab salad meatball with toppings, and really crispy. Bunch of rolls got to the table at 6:30. Most were pretty great. However, my wife's Special rolls with soy paper still had not come out by 6:45. So I asked about them. They asked "ok, you know it's a dollar extra per roll right?" Told them yes.... didn't care....my wife couldn't eat nori. Five minutes later she got her soy paper rolls, at 6:50. Both of which she reported enjoying a lot. However, at 6:50 the table still hadn't gotten the nigiri. It was officially an hour after it had been ordered at this point and we were hungry! And then five minutes later, we got some of the nigiri, at 6:55. Got the rest around 7:05. Honestly? Kinda worth the wait. Nigiri had really thick pieces on top of well seasoned rice with sesame seeds on it. Some awkward cuts of fish present, torn edges and such, but we went late in the day so it's expected. Most was Very satisfying. Seared tuna and pepper tuna were two of my favorites, but the eel was very good as well. Everything was Served on wooden boats too, Honestly kinda fun. And the staff? Really nice. Little older lady, huge smile, really funny and friendly. Dessert was served at 7:20pm. While everyone was eating I asked their opinions. Well my friends who had been imbibing the "all you can drink hot sake with all you can eat" said they loved it. I, one of the only non drinkers there, also really liked the food, though the wait was a little bothersome. But honestly, our friends had a really good time, we all left full, all of what we got was pretty good, and I was left feeling that I'd like to go back. Though I might wait until my wife is out of the wheelchair before I do so, and hopefully there isn't a evacuation going on. 4 out of 5 stars.

The service here is ridiculously fast. I put in my order and like rapid fire, each plate came one after the next. Alas my steak was smoke flavored and I couldn't taste the meat. $69 for disappointment. Mom's prime rib had a whole section that was pure fat. It was 1/3 of the serving; also the gristle was wide enough that she couldn't cut it. Her prime rib tasted wonderful and she shared it with me. The salad was disappointing. I can do that at home. There were 2 small crescents of cucumber, 2 tiny black olives and 2 tiny tomatoes. Not big enough to call them cherry. The cauliflower tasted bad per my mother, so I didn't try it. The carrot was good. The service was fantastic. The walls were bare- no pictures? I usually go to CVI steakhouse. This place was a disappointment.

Large old farmhouse converted to 5 or so pleasant old fashion feeling individual dining areas…read more Small outdoor patio area. The indoor dining areas on the front get a view through the curtains of the parking lot. The one in the back and partly the one on the South side have nice territorial views. Nice bar area but no views to speak of but there is a glass door to the parking lot so not a total cave. So your view (if any) can vary greatly depending on where you are seated. Huge menu with most every protein including steak and a variety of seafood. Prices mostly ranging in the $35-50 range seem steep for an upscale but casual restaurant in Carson City. The few entrees below $35 bottom out at ~$28 for pasta/chicken. With an appetizer and a drink or two (or a dessert in lieu of drinks) you could easily get up into the $80+ per person range. Unlike many other fine restaurants, a gourmet burger is conspicuously missing on the menu. The wine by the glass list is gigantic. My glass smelled like it was at the cusp of starting to turn. Maybe a drawback of offering so many different wines by the glass. Food is solid, very good but a bit short of what I would describe as "memorable." Steak and fish were cooked well. Warm sourdough bread wrapped in paper was nice. Side dishes are basic uninspired choices (potatoes, rice, veggies.) My Caesar was carpeted in cheese, and it included quite a bit of Romaine leaf not just the hearts like other restaurants. The dressing was average for a Caesar. I only mention this because they advertise their Caesar as being "Famous" Service was very good although a bit slow on drinks. Wine pours were average at best. On the spectrum of good, very good, outstanding, I'd describe the food and overall experience as very good. 4 stars on atmosphere (more if you get a view table), 4 on service, 4-1/4 stars on the food, 3-1/2 stars on value = 4 stars overall. For steakhouse fans with deep pockets or less price sensitive on a special occasion, 5 stars may be reasonable even though something like a Texas Roadhouse may be the better value. However, compared to many similar establishments at this price point I've eaten at in the past, I feel 5 stars would be a bit overrated.
