I could say nothing too original, as it is a Chinese buffet, but it is comparable to all of the good ones back home in Sacramento. I had skipped breakfast to make it to an event (I am proud, so I am going to mention me being in the Transplant Games as many times as I am able), so I needed a buffet amount of food. The broccoli in the broccoli chicken were still crispy, but NOT undercooked, so that's a good checkmark there. The rest of my plate was the salmon, general chicken, steamed rice, etc that I typically will get at any run of the mill Chinese buffet. I hate to keep repeating myself, but I will sum up the food here: Nothing too original, but it was good quality and cooked correctly. My mom enjoyed the salad bar, and said she was surprised at the quality. Our drinks were always refilled, and the staff seemed friendly. My dad frequents this location all the time. He brought us home one of their to go containers of their lunch buffet. I love buffets where you can buy a container from them and fill it up. He got us chicken skewers, shrimp, mushrooms, salmon, and some sort of dessert. I really enjoyed the shrimp, chicken skewers, and the dessert the most! read more

Prior to going to a Chinese buffet, I compared reviews and I was trying to pick between Chowtown and King Buffet. The public reviews for both are a mixed bag so I was curious/slightly worried about how it would be. In short, I would recommend King Buffet! We went a little after open, so I cannot speak for if you attend during a big rush or near close. We went around 11:30am on a Saturday and it was not THAT busy. We did not have to wait at all. But they definitely had a bunch of customers there! They had timely service, very nice staff. For the food, the mixed bag of reviews worried me but I was pleased. I liked the bourbon chicken, the lo mein, spring rolls, sweet and sour chicken, and the crab cakes. The sushi was okay, I did pick up some of the last California rolls on the plate so I think it'd have been better if I waited until they refilled it. The gyoza/dumplings were good but the edges were a bit dried out by the buffet lights I think. Dessert selection was also enjoyable, they even have little ice cream cups (I got rainbow sherbet!) that you can enjoy if you are dining in. Just can't take them to-go Pictures attached of mine and my party's plates. What I WOULDN'T get again: the "imitation eel" ( i think??) sushi and the crab rangoons. The rangoons were a little heavy on the cream cheese and not so much crab. The shrimp rolls (?) were also not to my taste but they could be to yours! Very clean, no noticeable issues with anything. This is a well deserved 5 star review- with the restaurant featuring great food, great service and clean updated ambience. The food includes: - Mongolian Barbecue featuring calamari, beef, chicken, shrimp, miscellaneous vegetables, eggs, noodles, with - salad bar with boiled shrimp and d other seafood salads - hot bars with several types of fresh seafood, crab cakes, mussels, shrimp, pizza for the kids, hot sides and soups - sushi bar with fresh made maki, uramaki and nigiri - dessert bar featuring cakes, cookies, pudding and jello desserts and ice cream Staff keep the hot and cold bars heaped with food. The servers are generous and prompt with refills- and although English is not their first language they do well interacting with the public. The building looks new although it must be 25-30 years old. It's in the former Hoover Golden Corral. I'd encourage everyone to check it out! read more

We came at 4pm and we didn't know, nor were we told that due to time we'd be charged the dinner price. Also we didn't eat anything labeled "dinner only" because we were not told the time change deal. Very VERY poor informative employees! The difference in dinner and lunch(10bucks per person). So had we know we'd be charged 20 per person, definitely would have eaten seafood!! I'm glad Yelp helped us stumble on this place for dinner. It had a nice atmosphere, was clean, and wasn't too busy (but there was a good enough crowd to where you knew it was good)! This is a Chinese buffet place, and they have tons of options for you to fill your plate with, and then fill your plate again! There were at least 4 tables of the normal food alone, but then they also had 2 tables for just sushi, and another couple for the Mongolian grill part (which i understand is included in the buffet though no one in my group used it so I'm not positive). I really liked all of the food. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was this fried sushi roll (that for some reason was with the regular food rather than with the rest of the sushi). It just had a really odd flavor to me. The rest of the sushi was good though, and I was happy with the variety of it instead of all of the sushi rolls being pretty much the same thing or just all really basic. I also liked the egg roll, which I specifically remember above some other stuff because I normally like the spring rolls at places better but here it was the egg rolls that won the battle. read more

All seafood was way overcooked, all chicken dishes were nothing but breading with tiny pieces of very tough chicken inside, and everything else looked/tasted like it had been sitting out for a looong time (and this was at peak dinner time). I struggled to find things that were somewhat decent, so I mostly had the hot & sour soup, which was the only good thing about our dinner. Wow! I can't believe I haven't written a review of this place! Granted we haven't been here in all of 2020, it was a staple before the pandemic. Prices were excellent, options were endless, and quality was on par for higher end Chinese buffets. In addition to their normal buffet, there is a sushi bar and a hibachi bar! I'm a fan of the hibachi.. you can pick what you want, how much, sauce, etc and it's cooked to order! You know it's fresh! I love that this place is so consistent. I have never had a different experience. There are many different options available and the staff is always there to wipe down and refill the buffet tables. The ambiance is nothing to ride home about but the servers were definitely attentive. I would consider 2 more things for 5 stars 1) if the sushi was better. Overall it was mediocre. The restaurant moved to a new shopping center so everything was clean and in great condition. The hibachi was the best that I have had but the sushi was very mediocre and very interesting in a negative way. The price was decent for what was offered. Came here this past weekend after visiting my sister. For Birmingham, this Chinese buffet is actually pretty good. They have a pretty large selection of hot foods to choose from, but the main thing that stood out was definitely the hibachi style grill. They have a large variety of different vegetables and meats to choose from, but what makes them stand out even more is the sauce bar they have. You can choose from a large variety of different sauces for your hibachi or you can get some chili oil to use as a dipping sauce! From the hot foods, I enjoyed their black pepper chicken the most! It was definitely one of the best items here. The sushi here is also fresh and prepared well. I will definitely pay a visit whenever I'm craving Chinese food. read more

I've been to King Buffet twice now. For me, it's just "okay". This is a new buffet in the Irondale/Crestwood area that is giving New China Buffet a run for its money. Their prices are cheap for the area and comparable to it's leading competitor. King Buffet is located in a new addition to a shopping mall. It is (or seems) smaller than New China but has more bells and whistles, such as marble-esque flooring and a cleaner atmosphere. They have a decent variety of food, good sushi and a hibachi grill. I was surprised to like their baked crab. They also have a scoop-it-yourself ice cream station, which I'm not too keen on. The station has you reach down into a cooler and scoop out your flavor yourself. I ended opting out of my mint chocolate chip, because I just thought it was super unsanitary. The customers aren't wearing any hair nets to prevent stray hairs from falling into the dessert (especially at that angle)... not to mention children's hands all over the scoops. At least the buffet has PLENTY of hand sanitizer at each station. read more

This is definitely the King of the Chinese buffets in town. While it won't be a sit down Chinese restaurant, it has some good food when you are in the mood for Chinese food. The staff are always nice to us, and there is always seating, despite this place being consistently packed. The only complaints I would have is that sometimes there isn't enough parking here, and multiple times we have been asked by loiterers outside the restaurant for money. On top of their normal buffet items, they have a dedicated hibachi section, where you select your meats, veggies, sauces, and spices to be cooked. This is a great way to customize your dining experience to your liking. You want ginger? garlic? sweet and sour? These are just some of the options. They also have a dedicated sushi section as well. While it won't beat a pure sushi restaurant, it is nice to have the option for some sushi or nagiri here as well. I'm sure we'll be back next time we get a craving for some Chinese! read more
