The first table we sat at had a few extra guests already dining on it. (Ants) We moved to another table and it was really wobbly. I stabilized it by leaning on it. We had the Reel Deal (listed on the back of the menu). That deal is hard to beat. You get a drink, app and entree for a really good price. Tea was great as always. Gumbo was hot and tasty. I had a half popcorn shrimp basket. I had about 15 nice sized shrimp, two hushpuppies, corn nugget, new potatoes, and slaw. Everything was great. Service was a little slow but they were crowded, our waiter introduced himself as being on his first day on the job and we were outside the restaurant on the patio with one other couple. No complaints there. Food was worth the wait. Maybe not choose the patio. On this particular occasion we had been out of town for three days and felt like we should take the dog to dinner. So we were looking for outside dining. We have limited outdoor dining in Gardendale and I'm not into picnics.

We had the oysters (the selection was unreal), the branzino, the tuna burger and the peas & carrots side dish. All incredible. But the real star of the show was the coconut cream pie. She helped us navigate the menu perfectly. Ah, cannot wait to go back.

It was opened by a husband and wife couple, Chef Rob McDaniel and his wife Emily in 2025. As a James Beard Award nominated chef, there was good reason to expect a great meal even before the dinner. The presentation, creativity and focus on seasonality are standout features of Bayonet. Very bold dishes like the chive and caviar egg sandwich prove that the chef does not hesitate to go extreme. The Strawberry Wahoo was no less impressive, both in presentation and the genuinely unique combination. Staff are highly professional, bartenders Bradley and Miles are top notch pros of the industry. All of that is before acknowledging the beautiful interior in which Bayonet is situated. Thus, ending two words, just book!

Every time we go to Birmingham, we grab a fish sandwich there. Enjoy the food, And enjoy the ambience of one of the oldest fish restaurants in Birmingham. If you go there, knowing this, you will not be disappointed and that's why I give them five stars because they absolutely accomplish what they set out to do ...which is to serve hot fresh seafood at a reasonable price to working people

Once I arrived, we couldn't place an order at the window either. There were 5 people waiting and they said no one had come to the window. I walked inside to see what was going on, the older gentleman said "somebody gon come to the window to take your order" I look confused and asked "who". He simply repeated his statement with an agitated tone. Needless to say I left lol.

We both got the buffalo wings with lemon pepper, extra crispy as an app. The wings were really good. The sauce was rich and flavorful and the wings were fried to perfection. My only complaint was they were really big. My personal preference is smaller yet meaty wings. We got the 1/2 lbs shrimp bag with excess sausage and mild house sauce. The bag before the extra was only about $10. It comes with the corn, sausage and potato. That price is crazy good! The shrimp were a great size and the ingredients seemed fresh. The sauce was a very bland to me (in comparison to similar restaurants). The servers were really sweet. Checking on us often but not overdoing it. All in all, I would return again! Next time I'd probably get medium sauce and extra garlic. Yum!

The macaroni looked very light in color, but don't let that fool you, it was flavorful, creamy, and very well prepared. Everything on the plate was seasoned nicely and satisfying. That said, there were a few things about the atmosphere that took away from the experience for me. The restaurant was extremely dark inside, and the music was much louder than necessary, making it difficult to fully relax and enjoy the meal. I was also caught off guard by customers smoking marijuana indoors. I'm pretty sure I left with a contact high while writing this review. I do think it would be helpful for the establishment to make guests aware of that at the entrance so people can decide beforehand whether that environment is for them.

I had been wanting some lamb chops for a few months, and I found Yo Chef online. The reviews for the lamb chops were mostly great, so I decided to give them a try. I didn't dine in, I placed an order for delivery. I ordered the lamb chops, with mashed sweet potatoes, and red beans and rice. I had never had fried pound cake, so I ordered 2 fried pound cakes, one for myself and one for my mom. We were both looking forward to everything. Unfortunately, we were both disappointed. The lamb chops were terrible. They were extremely tough. They tasted as if they had been sitting under a warming lamp or something. Even more disappointing was they were so skimpy. They definitely didn't taste as if they were freshly cooked. The mashed sweet potatoes were not mashed at all. They were simply candied yams. The red beans and rice were the best of my order. The fried pound cake tasted as if it was fried too long. I ended up throwing everything away after trying to eat one of the lamb chops. Ultimately, it was a wasted $78, $96 including the tip.
