I recently ordered lunch from Shangri-Li through DoorDash and had one of my favorite meals: chicken lo mein with crab rangoons. The food was excellent, as it always is. The chicken lo mein tasted very authentic, with perfectly cooked chicken and fresh vegetables that added great flavor and texture. The vegetables are honestly some of the best I've had from a Chinese restaurant, and everything tasted fresh and well prepared. The crab rangoons were crispy and delicious, making them the perfect side to the meal. Since I ordered through DoorDash and had it delivered to work, I didn't get to experience the restaurant's ambiance, but the ordering process was easy and my food arrived quickly and in great condition. The portions are huge, which makes the slightly higher price feel completely worth it. Overall, I would definitely recommend Shangri-Li to anyone looking for a really good Chinese meal. read more

My order was ready pretty fast despite there being a steady flow of people. The staff is friendly and hardworking. I really enjoyed my food. Nice portion sizes. The inside is back open for dine in. They are closed on Saturday. It's been years since I've come here but I'm happy to see that they survived those crucial Covid years. Orange lemon chicken special was something new I tried and enjoyable. The wings are always great, they have a slightly sweet taste to them. I do wish the lettuce wraps had a bit of a lighter filling. Shangri La is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Their fried chicken is fabulous. Their sweet n' sour soup is the best in town. One of my favorite dishes is Chicken Egg Foo Young. The best I can describe that dish is to say it tastes like a Chinese omelette. Don't knock it. Instead, try it. It is delicious. It's served with a sweetish duck sauce that is the perfect compliment. My mom, son and I went to Shangri-La for lunch on a recent Friday. We were seated quickly and ordered from the lunch menu. Our soups and egg rolls came quickly and with a nice plate of crunchy strips. I had the hot and sour soup and it was very good and perfectly spiced for me. The egg roll was pretty typical but tasty. It took our entries quite a while to come out. I had the Mongolian beef and it was a bit sweet but delicious. The portion size was perfect for lunch. Holy Moses this place is slow. We've been here twice in the last few months and each time they were understaffed. One server is running around waiting on all the tables stopping by just long enough to complain about the speed of the kitchen, dropping food and running away. This isn't hyperbole. Great lunch, nearby where I work. Shangri-La is in a small strip mall. Food for lunch comes from a menu with a bout 30 combo plates. You get choice of hot and sour soup, egg drop soup and one other. You get an egg roll and a chicken wing. Didn't really understand the chicken wing but I also didnt have a problem eatiti it either! I ordered the Sesame Chicken, Egg drop soup and my little chicken wing! All well prepared, flavorful and tasty. It wasn't over the top but it was all very well done. Usually sesame chicken has sesame seeds on it, this did not, which I found unusual but it did not impact the mean in the slightest. The decor was very clean, and well taken care of. Been eating here for years! Everyone is super nice and the service is wonderful. We get takeout about once a month and they are always so attentive. They keep your phone number in their system which makes it easy to order with your address on file. This is the worst place to eat! I ordered general tso and egg drop soup for dinner for takeout. I realized they messed up my order since there is chicken and shrimp in my egg drop soup. I am not one to typically give a two-star review. Especially since the people have always been so nice. But I have now had the food enough times to say, Meh. I've experienced better. I hate that we don't love or even really like this place since it is by far the closest to our house. I honestly wish I could go back and remember all of the things we have tried. And honestly prevented us from trying again a second time. We heard the lo mein was good so that is what we got our next trip. It was decent. But we also got sweet and sour chicken and Mongolian beef. The decent lo mein was not enough to overcome the underwhelming proteins. We finally decided to give it one more shot and asked friends who frequent it what they get. We followed their lead on the lo mein again and seasame beef this time. The lo mein was about like I remembered and the seasame beef had a strong cornstarch taste. Similar to the other meats we have had. We also ventured away from recommendation and got the crab angels. A huge glop of cream cheese was the consistency of these. We didn't even eat but on half a piece of those. We officially decided after this visit, that it is likely our last unless we hear something drastic. Again, I hate leaving bad reviews for establishments that have been around for years with friendly folks working. And I am happy they have the people that still love them. Sad to say, this place has gone down hill. Aside from the torn booths and dirty tables, the food left something to be desired. While the waitress was friendly, she was also hovering and a bit pushy in removing plates before I was satisfied (not that I could be with what was served). While the egg roll was the delight of my meal, the wing was cold and the egg drop soup tasted of liquidfied ginger. The mongolian beef was quite the shocker. While the dish is typically filled with onions anyways, I was surpised to find only five slices of meat...barely making 1/8 of the dish. It looked like it was thrown on the plate, as of serving leftovers, and it was nothing but a salty oily mess. The rice was hard, as of it had been left out too long or undercooked....or maybe both. Best Chinese food I have found in the area. Plenty of vegetables and chinese vegetables too (not just broccoli and carrots) and a good amount of the meat/seafood of your choice. You can ask for no MSG in your food and they make your food without it (except egg rolls which did not have a lot as I didn't get a reaction from them). The food is quite tasty without the MSG. Part of the fun of visiting my folks in Birmingham is a major part of the day is choosing where to eat. They go out for dinner or lunch every day and they have their favorite spots. Usually on Sunday nights for some reason. The lunch special is great. 6.95 for soup, an eggroll, a small piece of chicken, and an entree. I was boring and got sweet and sour pork with a bowl of egg drop soup. I tried my mother's hot and sour soup and it's pretty good. I wasn't given a choice about rice so I'm assuming brown or fried rice would be an additional cost. We were seated and served quickly. There wasn't a big crowd but there was a big table of businessmen and a few other tables. We were in the front room so there was a larger dining room in the back.
