My wife and I had dinner at King's Buffet on Tuesday 22 November. We were visiting Bend and having just arrived we had not looked at the online restaurant reviews. In our experience, most Chinese Buffets are not representative of Chinese food, e.g. pizza and French fries are offered. However, we have a hometown favorite Chinese Buffet and thought King's Buffet would be similar, but we were wrong. In addition to the food being mediocre at best, and in too many cases tepid rather than hot, the owners/workers had a booth devoted to daycare for two young boys. Not only were the boys loud, I assume to hear each other over the blaring TV tuned to a cartoon channel, but they roamed the restaurant at will. I have often seen this type of family daycare in other Chinese restaurants, but typically the kids are less obtrusive. This is a restaurant to avoid. read more

I love this place. Been eating here for years. I read the other reviews and I think they are staged. The food is not expensive, there is no duct tape on the seats, they do not have cartoons on the TV and I have never once seen children being babysitted in the booths. The floors nor booths have ever felt sticky and they do not charge for tea. I eat there once or twice a week so I should know what goes on there. I also do not understand why they are saying its $30 to $70 a plate. It is $8.49 for lunch and $11.99 for dinner. They have more options for dinner (like more seafood, etc) at night than during the day. In response to Tom G's review. There is many many dishes to try (roughly 55) and you claim to have tried them all. If I tried everything there in one visit I would be sick too. Three of us had a huge lunch here for just under $30.00 including drinks and tip. They have an immense selection of dishes most of which are pretty tasty. Featuring a nice selection of flavors throughout the chicken, beef, pork, vegetable and seafood entrees. There is a nice salad bar, dessert bar and sushi bar. You can also put together your own raw ingredients at the Mongolian style counter and they will cook it up fresh right in front of you. In addition, a small variety of dim sum is availiable. If you want to get stuffed this place rocks. Yes, it is much better than China Sun. The service is OK; but no wine or beer availiable. Salute. read more

I am not from Oregon but we stopped by to eat here. When we got in and saw the food we instantly were disappointed. There was so little of everything and not many option. The food was dry and did not have taste. The worst part is that the sushi still had scales on them so who ever scaled the fish did not do a good job at all. For some reason this place has too yelps so I will post this twice. We decided that we would go out for a nice family dinner and thought that the Kings buffet would be a good choice. We were WAY wrong! The food is overly dried out and truly tasted awful. The salmon was not cooked and had most likely been sitting our for hours (and that was just the food). The parking lot was clean, but the inside was extremely dirty. The booths had duct tap all over them from rips, the floor was sticky (everywhere) and so were the tables and spoons for the buffet. The servers were nice until the end. We tried to tell them that because of the quality of food, and the food that we didn't eat, we expected a discount. They gave us $8 off a $50 dollar bill (that' s 4 plates). In conclusion: WAY OVERPRICED (11.99 a plate), bad food, poor environment and the staff are not empowered enough to make a bad dining experience a good one. I will not be going back. read more

It's a decent one. Not an extravagant or the best one I would say. They were open on the day of Christmas which was a huge plus. The food was ok but everything was hot. I Loved their spicy chicken and custard bun. Overall it's a decent place when you don't have an alternative option. read more

Disgusting. Dining at 7-11 is far superior. Food on the Buffet was scarce and horrible. Dry, old, just bad. Many empty food pans never replenished throughout visit (5). I swear I will never do a Kings Buffet again. It seemed reasonable since the family wanted a variety of Asian food and we were hungry and did not want to wait to be served. For our family of 2 adults, 3 teens, 1 kid = $70. It was later in the evening so their food was pretty picked over and they were barely replenishing. Sad to say, food was bland and started tasting artificial! The staff was very friendly and took our beverage order. They never said it was EXTRA where we assumed it was included. I got pretty upset with them for not disclosing and paying an outrageous amount for sodas! NEVER, NEVER AGAIN. Very disappointing part of our visit to Bend, Oregon. Well, everyone who knows me knows that I loves me the China Sun- though, sadly, it is looking for a new address. Which is the only reason I went to Kings Buffet with the kiddies, as I was TOLD that it was great. Uh, that person is no longer on my list of trusted informants. My whole family ate there, all 5 of us, all 5 who loves the China Sun. In fact, the kids say it is their favorite restaurant. But to say that the food we had at Kings Buffet was the worst we have had in town is misleading. We all actually decided it was some of the worst food we have ever had . . . ever. And it is dirty and dingy, which doesn't help. And the manager (owner?) seems to mean well, but he kind of made us feel like we were trying to dine and ditch, as when I stood up to go pay he yelled, "NO! You pay here!" and pointed to the table. Had dinner here recently: the King Buffet seems to have fewer outstanding items, now that their competition is gone. The octopus salad seemed a bit off. There was roast beef which was pretty good. The mussels were burdened down with too much cheese and other fatty add-ons. I enjoyed the sausage with onions. The salmon too was tasty. And they still have several kinds of hard ice cream. Certainly this restaurant is still worth eating at, but it's now a shadow of what it used to be. read more

First time there, I saw stacks of food. Looked incredible, all the way to presentation. Place was packed. Now, what happened? Fried rice was a couple of days old. Meat was tough, not fresh. My Lady and I were visitibg from outta town and stopped here. Ignoring the bad yelp reviews. Dont go here. Its terrible. First off, I tired the grilled chicken and it was cold. Second I tired the peanut chicken. They globbed peanut butter on top of fried chicken. Appetizing? Uhh no. I then proceeded to try the noodle lo mein. It was cold and drenched in oil. I tasted oil. I went here today for lunch with a friend. I was pleasantly surprised to find the huge variety of offerings, as well as some American foods and a salad bar. As a buffet it is very good, and we were able to quickly get in and out at an affordable price. Now, if you're in for the full read: After finding our favorite local spot "Szechuan Restaurant" was closed, my girlfriend and I decided to finally check this place out last minute on a Monday night at 6:30 PM. We asked to take a look around before committing. The place seemed dingy and not very clean. I could tell right away the food was old and most of it looked to be sub-par quality even for a buffet. I didn't want to stay, but my girlfriend wanted to eat so I gave in. The egg drop soup smelled and tasted like rotten eggs, the fried rice was bland and mushy, pot stickers were freezer burned, and most other items were overcooked, old, super salty or just plain nasty overall. I cannot believe they serve shellfish here too! One look at the "cheesy" mussel/clam on my girlfriends plate and I said "Please don't eat that!" It also appeared as though many of the food items were not kept properly heated. We should have known better based on previous reviews we had read, but we thought maybe folks were just overreacting. NOPE! We both felt sick after leaving and regrettably paid almost $24 for this crap meal. Save your money (11.99 per person!) and go to a more reputable place in town such as Szechuan Restaurant or Chans. You WILL get better food, service, and atmosphere at a cheaper price. The ladies that worked there were nice enough and I'm sure they are just trying to run a business like anyone else. My concern is that someone could get very sick eating here. First off, I knew something foul was afoot when I noticed the entire establishment was completely empty. Should have backed out right then and there... I admit, I was pretty stoked when I started making my way through the buffet for the first time -- I happened to have a mad craving for chinese food, and wanted nothing more than to grub on some quality chow. By the time I had made it around to the CHEESE COVERED MUSSELS, my appetite had completely vanished. There they sat, oozing a greasy, viscous mixture of "cheese" and undercooked shellfish-goo with a mean smell to match the horrid sight of it. Just looking at 'em made my stomach heave and turn. I mean, really: who the fuck puts cheese on mussels? Last time I remember, Ronco brand government cheese is NOT considered Chinese cuisine. So I ended up getting a plate consisting of the following: sesame chicken, pepper steak, egg foo yung, fried rice, teriyaki chicken on a stick, and a Chinese-style "doughnut". The sesame chicken had the texture of a saturated sponge, the pepper steak contained neither pepper nor steak, the egg foo yung was somehow too chewy (and the sauce literally tasted like something traveling southbound out of a northbound monkey who just ate three grilled stuffed burritos from taco bell -- it was the worst fucking taste I've ever experienced in my life), the fried rice was so yellow it looked like it was literally cooked in piss, the teriyaki stick was surprisingly good, and the doughnut was way to hard to be considered edible. Thankfully I had my half a glass of beer to wash it all down. In the end, I ended up getting a fortune cookie with no fortune in it -- which officially took the experience from a farse to a sitcom episode, I officially give the King's Buffet a 1/5 stars on the basis of Yelp won't let me rate it zero (or I don't know how). The food was rancid, the cleanliness appeared to be minimal, the atmosphere was goddamned horrible (seriously, the whole place looks like shit; it's like the staff was sad that the place looked like a set from the game Fallout 3, so they put a TV someone jacked from a Motel 8 twenty years ago in the corner and left it on cspan with the volume muted to add 'ambience'), and worst of all: the prices were inordinately high. Don't eat here. Just don't do it. Go somewhere else. You'll be happy you did. read more

Absolutely disgusting. I wish we'd checked yelp first but this is where my daughter thought she wanted to eat today. Gross. Stay away. Everything except the soup was barely luke warm. Anything "stuffed" has the same gross filling. Several food items sat on the buffet in an inch of oil! Wth. The "sushi" was nasty. How do you screw up California rolls? And one roll had pickles in it. The only thing that was okay was the peanut chicken and they really skimped on the sauce. Eat at mcdonald's - which we never do - because their food is better. Sad. We will never be back and we'll make sure others know to stay away. Here's praying we don't get sick. Even the egg flower soup was gross. It's neon yellow.
