Stopped here for lunch during a road trip. It wasn't busy on a Friday during lunch and were were seated quickly. I knew I wanted to try the Khao Soi because I have heard of it but never found this dish until now. I ordered it with Tofu, as well as Thai tea with coconut milk. The meal came out very quickly within 5 minutes I was shocked! Wow this dish was amazing. I loved every component of this dish. The curry was perfectly seasoned and spicy. The tofu was crispy. Just so delicious! The Thai tea was good and perfectly sweet. Although for $6 you don't get much drink. Overall this place is a must try! Food took around 15 minutes, not bad, the food was heavenly. Absolutely the BEST curry me and my friend had ever eaten in our lives!! It is on the pricey side; $23 for my khao soi curry noodles, but the serving was massive, at least 5 measuring cups worth of curry/noodles, it gave us both a meal to take home! Warning; the curry leaves a very spicy after taste! No complaints from me, cleared my sinuses! Only complaint is the Thai tea, it's expensive for only a few sips worth, more than half of the cup is whip cream, and the whole cup is barely 8 oz. Located in a space that was once a burger joint in the shopping center that also houses Safeway on the west side of town, this excellent Thai eatery that has a menu that includes harder to find Northern Thai specialties like Khao Soi ($22) and Gang Hang Lay ($28) in addition to the more standard Thai menu options, like Pad Thai, a lot of American diners expect to find. It was top notch for food and pretty darned good for service during for very late lunch, aka linner meal for us, when we made our first visit in earlier this year and it was so good that when we were back in Bend a couple of months later, it was the restaurant we thought about first to return to for a meal. We lived in Bend for almost 20 years and after moved away 11 years ago we still visited often because until last year both my parents continued to live there. I share that for context to say that we've eaten at every Thai restaurant in Bend since 1998 (when there was only one) and many multiple times at some of them and if you are visiting and have time for only one Thai meal, this would be our choice of where to have it. (Yes, I include Sen Dai and Wild Rose - those owned by one owner, and Noi Thai in the mix.) The husband and wife owners here apparently have Thai heritage and Thai restaurant experience from their time living in Portland and it shows in all the pride of ownership details, including table decor. (See photo.) PRICE POINT: I think the same menu is used during all open hours. Our lunch for two menu items totaled $50 but there were leftovers to go back to the house with us. HOURS: 7 days a week. They open at 11a close at 2:30 until 4:30 on Mon - Fri. On Sat & Sun they open at noon and close from 3:00 until 4:30. Doors close at 8:00p. PARKING: Private lot. ACCESSIBILITY: My only restraints on this are that the spacing of tables is tight and so it can be a little difficult to navigate, in particular for a person like me as I am a diner with mobility limits. But there are ADA compliant parking spaces in the lot and the restaurant is level in from the walkway. As a note to others who are also disabled diners, I'll share that the hostess did the thing that often happens in an eatery, she tried to seat me at arguable the worse table in the house right inside the door but to her credit when I said something in the main area would be more comfortable, she moved my husband and me there. TIP: To avoid crowds (this is popular for a reason), go in for late lunch. If you're planning on dinner, make a reservation. read more

Great menu, attractive dining area, flavorful dishes. We came on Sat night around 6:30 and didn't have any trouble getting seated. Service was a little slow at the start...but eventually improved. My bride ordered the Tom Kha Soup - all veggies ($20) and really loved the flavor! I went with the Thom Yum Goong ($25) and it was pretty good - not as spicy was I was expecting. Review - Lunch with a Friend at Dear Mom Cafe, Bend Oregon I recently had lunch with a friend at Dear Mom Cafe, located on Southwest Century Drive near Safeway. The experience overall was pleasant, with professional and polite staff who handled the essentials efficiently. We were seated quickly, our order was taken without delay, and the food arrived soon after. Service beyond those key points was minimal, but the staff carried themselves with courtesy and attentiveness. The restaurant itself was clean and neatly kept, with a calm atmosphere. On this Thursday at lunchtime, there were only a few other patrons, which made the space feel relaxed and unhurried. As for the food, my friend ordered the coconut curry noodles (Khao Soi) and enjoyed it. I went with Daddy's Garlic Shrimps, which certainly delivered on the garlic. The dish was flavorful, nicely plated, and paired with fresh garnishes that gave it a bright presentation. That said, I found the pricing a sticking point. My shrimp dish alone was $28, and while it was enjoyable, the portion size and overall quality did not quite justify the cost. Over time, and in many different cities, I have visited a wide range of Thai restaurants. Dear Mom Cafe would fall solidly in the top half of that group, but I would not place it among the very best. In fact, some of the more refined Thai restaurants I have dined at elsewhere offered food I enjoyed more in spaces with more polished ambiance and also with lower costs. I do not regret visiting Dear Mom Cafe, I am glad I tried it, the food was good, and the staff were welcoming. Checked out Dear Mom early this summer with family. I was sort of surprised to learn how many Thai places there are in Bend, and this restaurant was a new one to their repertoire. The location outside of town made parking easy. The overall atmosphere inside was stylish, and there was outdoor seating at the time as well. We buckled in to order our spread and started with Mom's Salad, which was really everything you could want out of a Thai salad--juicy, fresh, tart, spicy, and a nice change from my typical green papaya order. Next we had the Larb wings, which were such a cool textural riff on the more mainstream version of both dishes. They were nice and hot and crispy. For mains, we tried the Pad Gra Prow--a go-to standard, elevated with crispy fried basil; the Khao Soi with Crispy Chicken--a different take that was appreciated by some in our group (I think I'm partial to an un-fried chicken); the Sukothai Noodles and the Gang Hang Lay Pork Ribs. The Sukothai Noodles were good, but fairly pork focused and a bit sweeter, so I wished we had ordered another noodle dish instead, as they weren't enough of a contrast with the other dishes. The Pork Ribs were pretty tamarind forward, and a little less tender than I had hoped for. We had a non-fish eater in the group, otherwise I would've made a stronger push for some of the awesome catfish dishes. Beyond the food, I will note that unfortunately the restaurant started slammed, and service continued to be a struggle. I took note of the number of people on the floor and it appeared there was one server, and possibly the chef/owner helping out. We took it in stride, but at a certain point, it did feel unfortunate to see a lot of uncleared tables (including our own between courses). Knowing how challenging staffing can be, I hope Dear Mom has since been able to address these issues, because the food is amazing, and definitely worth the visit. read more

They are a good Thai restaurant located in Bend, Oregon. We visited during the holidays. Reservations was made in advanced on Open Table. We arrived on time and waited a few minutes to be seated. We ordered their chicken wing appetizer, pad thai and their paella. The food was good, just like the Thai food I can get in Southern California. Prices were higher than California Thai food. Dear Mom, The food is delicious at this restaurant! The owners pride themselves on changing up the menu several times a year to keep up with trends in Thailand. The owners moved to Bend from Portland and they're bringing the flavors to a town that already has excellent Thai food. My wife's Pad See Ew came with crunchy fried chicken pieces as the protein. It was a twist and it worked well. The Tom Yum soup was rich and flavorful with fresh chunks of veggies, mushrooms, and shrimp. The larb dusted wings were juicy. My only complaint is that that my Pad Krapow dish wasn't larger because I couldn't stop eating it. Actually, I have the same complaint about my wife's Tom Yum soup because it was all good. I had the Thai Paella and my wife had the garlic shrimp specials. Mine was very flavorful, full of shrimp, calamari and a few clams. Mine was really good but her garlic shrimp was fantastic! In town for a concert in Bend, very impressed how walkable this outdoorsy town is. From my hotel I could walk to the supermarket as well as many restaurants including Dear Mom Cafe. Inside the style modern chic and the menu sports a traditional and rotating choice of specials. There's lots of neon light signs, grass walls, and other instagrammable touches. When I sat down it was pretty quiet, it was an early Monday evening, but there was a steady stream of locals coming in to pick-up take-out orders. The staff was very friendly and were clearly enjoying themselves as they went about their tasks. I opted for the Garlic Shrimp with a side of Mom's Fried Chicken. For once a garlic dish lives up to its name! If you love garlic you'll rejoice with this dish. The butterflied shrimp had great flavor and fried to the perfect point where it's crispy but not heavy. The sauce added more complexity without being too salty like other fish sauces. Mom's Fried Chicken was a great side: a fried boneless thigh with good flavor. A must try while visiting Bend! Coming from Portland where we are spoiled with great Thai food, I wasn't expecting amazing Thai food in Bend, but was I wrong! Not only was the space aesthetically pleasing, the service was nice as well. The Midnight Chicken is a must try if you love fish sauce wings. The Noodle Soup was light with char siu pork and rice noodles. The Drunken Noodle had a bit of heat to it, but the flavors were packed. The Crab Fried Rice had a hefty amount of real crab (well worth the price), and the sauce on the side is a must on rice. They also had a great selection of cocktails to choose from. The pad Thai noodle dish is a little spicy for me but that's just my opinion besides that is delicious. We ordered a side of fried chicken as well and added it to the pad Thai. This dish was an easy share as well for the three of us. We even had togo boxes for everything. The toffee cake is a must so save some room!! The only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5 is because the wine list is not great and the service is a little slow but they could have been short on help. The food was fresh and the portions are very large. My noodles felt a bit overcooked, larger, and stuck together but I'm probably extra picky there. One tip I'd give is that everything is much spicier than you think. Even the items without fire symbols seem to come with dried chili flakes that will punch you in the throat. There were several people coughing throughout the restaurant when they learned this. One of my companions was unfortunately one of them. I like spicy so I was ok with it but it was definitely more than a 2/5. I did love how customizable the proteins and grains were for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free. The server was very energetic and kind and provided a lot of background info on the food. He also offered my companion a remake if the whole dish was too spicy but encouraged them to try the other side of the noodles first. They were ok with the second bite, but they might reconsider having the chili flakes on the plate if it's on a "not spicy" dish. The ambiance is a cool and modern cafe style. Lots of neons and very lively on a Monday night! As for the food and drinks, I started off with Yuzu Margarita and ordered Midnight Chicken wings and Pad Thai Glass Noodle. Honestly, the food was ok. I wasn't a big fan of the Glass Noodles as I found them to be dry. I've even found myself scraping the fish sauce from the wings onto my pad thai plate as it needed more of that umami flavor. I'm really disappointed because this place started off great. About a month ago I ordered pad thai to go and it was excellent- huge portion, lots of food that lasted me three meals. This time was the complete opposite. I waited 25 minutes past my scheduled pickup time, and when I finally got the food it was cold. The portion was shockingly small compared to last time. I ate the entire thing and was still hungry, and I don't eat large portions. I also paid $23 with extra vegetables, but there was only one piece of broccoli and 2 pieces of chopped carrot. Consistency matters, especially at this price point. Between the wait, portion size, and quality drop, this was a very disappointing experience.
