We've been faithful Windstream/Kinetic customers for 7 years. Pay all our bills, rarely complain about outages in our area. Had great customer service until the last couple years. Spectrum starts installing fiber in our neck of the woods and Windstream decides extortion is a better CS strategy. This weekend they turned off the service without warning. Pop up ads on our devices said we needed to "contact them about upgrading to their fiber internet" soon, and that our service would be restored once we closed the pop up window EVEN IF we didn't decide to set an appointment to switch. Except they didnt turn the service WE'VE PAID FOR back on. It stayed off. We called, they said we NEEDED to set an appointment to get our service back on, but then they could flip a switch to turn it back on. We set an appointment. STILL no service. All Saturday, all Sunday, still no service. Repeated calls to them and every time they show ZERO trouble calls or service appts set to restore it. Only the appointment on Wednesday to see about getting the service. They won't submit a ticket to turn it back on. They wont give us a timeline for service we paid for in good faith to be restored. My Internet was locked out (randomly) called and spoke with Sasani (Customer rep) who informed me they had locked my internet because I needed to upgrade from copper to fiber. Mind you, when I originally acquired kinetic at my new place they told me that I would have fiber installed and gave me a great rate. But... when the technician arrived he informed me that he was going to have to "rig up" a dsl modem--DSL!? I called and they backtracked stating that they would not have fiber in my area for years and the best they could do was DSL @ maybe 80-100 megs. Now, fast forward to today where I'm told that I have to upgrade to fiber or they're going to (eventually) have to charge me over a $100 fee for each time they send out a tech to "fix" their copper line issues. Needless to say I asked her to understand where I was coming from; no notification (she stated they were supposed to have sent an email/text to notify me of this upcoming "change"--They did not.) they locked my account not because I was delinquent on my bill but instead to strong-arm me into upgrading my account. I asked her if she understood how stupid this was and all I wanted was my internet connection unlocked. She then passed me over to the fiber team to "assess" if I was eligible for fiber. This new lady told me I was eligible and then proceeded to tell me to keep my old rate and they would give me the fiber upgrade and a $200 Mastercard via mail/email. I told her I didn't care and just wanted my internet back; she then informed me that I had to get fiber or I would continue to have connectivity issues so I would have to find another provider if I wanted to keep my current service. This is not only poor ethics, customer service, and bad business, but an egregious overreach of power on their part. I will be informing the BBB and a letter to the CEO. This isn't just about a good rate, but about services rendered for services paid. Internet literally drops every 15 seconds for the last 2 weeks. we try everything and nothing works. We call customer service and they can do NOTHING because our router is "3rd party". THEIR installer, recommended we get the eero6 router over their router. that's right THEY RECOMMENDED WE GET THIS ROUTER. A Kinetic service line has been aproximately 6 feet off the ground for nearly a year. I have called five times and they have been to look at it 3 times. The first two technicians said they would have to talk to their supervisor, and I never heard anything back. The third time (Wednesday, April 8), the technician found the source of the why it was sagging, and said they would have it fixed either that day, or the next. This is going to be a long post but I've had enough with Kinetic Internet as I'm sure a lot of my neighbors and community has as well but this is our story. If you don't want to read that's fine but at least help me share this story. Along with a letter sent to the CEO I plan on spreading this story and sharing it everywhere I can because enough is enough. We have had Windstream now (Kinetic) for 18 plus years. When we first built our home we had to fight tooth and nail to even get an internet service offered in our area. Finally we was offered a low 20 meg service that from day one was unstable and had constant trouble shoot tickets submitted but was still charged for correct service per month. Then we was offered to upgrade two times to where we are today at a measly 100 meg that we pay for but rarely ever see over 60 meg when it works at all. We experience daily drops and connectivity issues, troubleshoot tickets after troubleshoot tickets submitted, days taken off work to be home for techs to come out, not to mention the inconvenience of our lifestyles because this day and time if you don't have internet your pretty much screwed on everything work, tv, banking, bills........ Time after time with techs coming out bandaids were applied to Kinetics horrible infrastructure of copper lines ran in the 50"s. Multiple techs along with area supervisor's told us they were limited on what they could do to repair the deteriorating copper infrastructure by the company due to cost. They didn't want to spend this money to provide us with the service we was paying for because fiber internet service was coming and copper was going away. Fast forward going through this for 15 years now and mind you still paying our full billed amount every month fiber crews finally show up last week and start running fiber on our road. Tuttle road that is London Ky were told it's going from 229 all the way down our road we were beyond thrilled. But guess what NO THAT DID NOT HAPPEN. Work has completed and I have spoke to the area supervisor for Kinetic they started from the switch in the middle of our road and ran it one direction approximately 2 miles and grabbed the easiest fastest customers they could and that is it. No more fiber for the rest of the multiple customers on our road and no plans in the future for us to get fiber like we were told for years now. Come to find out the engineers that decide that and plan it are no where even around us they are based in Georgia that makes perfect sense. We have had other companies that had plans to run fiber service on road one being @onpoint broadband, they done had the map planned out for running it and was threatened by Kinetic with cease and decease order because they service our area which is creating a monopoly. I don't understand how this is acceptable or even legal and how a company can get by with treating there loyal customers the way myself and neighbors in my community has been treated by Windstream( kinetic ). You can't speak to anyone besides foreigners you can't understand there is no way to escalate anything other than what I am desperately trying to do here now so I ask you to please share this post all over and help me make a stand against these big companies that treat people this way. I have 2 gig fiber. and it works wondertil. I really never have any issues. it just works. Reminds me of the old days when you got something and lasted forever. The tech guy that come over is wonderful, you all can't have him as your tech guy. Internet connection is not stable. Issue exists multiple months without resolution. I've provided detailed logs showing issue exists with service provider. Multiple houses in neighborhood experience it. Support seems to only care about closing tickets, not actually resolving them. Disconnected my service today. Customer service representatives are rude! Very rude when your at their mercy for help. Was promised a $100 visa/Mastercard for signing up as a new customer. Card was between $100-$300. I was offered the $100 afrer having new service for so many days. Called to collect after the first of the year as promised. I highly advised to not even get on the phone with this company: Date May 28th. My conversation included the fact that I was at a RV Campground and my space was XXX. I was told no problems. What was promised: Free installation and 3 months free service. Monthly rate of $34.95 with auto payment. After 45 days of no payment problems, a $200 Visa Gift card. 15mps and installation by a professional tech on June 4th. Sounds great. Call ended with no problems and a happy customer. I received an Email. Can't install due to previous customer still showed service. Called the person who was here before. No service with Kinetic. Spoke to a supervisor who cleared up the problem and released the order for installation on June 5th. Called again to double check on the order. Without noticed, it was being held again. I spoke to another person, who promised it would be released but.... the free 3 month service was for a virus protection, not the internet. The price of $34.95 with auto pay, went to $40.00 and now they could not install until June 18th. I called back again and again there was a problem. No one keeps notes, no one can keep their word and the company has nothing but complaints. The price sounds good, but it's all smoke and mirrors. read more

Had an appt for June 19th between 9am & 11am. Get an email that my appt was changed to June 20th same time slot. At 11:15am contact them becauseno one has arrived yet. Was told the time was now between 11:41am & 12:41 pm and I could contact cs to find out why. So I call to find out it jas yet again been pished back to between 3:41pm & 4:41 pm. So not only have I missed 2 days of pay, but I am also almost positive that I will be calling back at 4:22 to be told that it is to late in the day and they will have to reschedule again. I had their "service" for 2 months and 10 days. That's how long it took me to figure out what a massive mistake I made switching to Kinetic, and to switch back to my old provider. Don't be fooled by their introductory plans like I was - yeah, 3gbs is great on paper. In reality, I never once got above 600mbs. And for some reason, fiber did NOT play nice with our Rokus - making Amazon video and Netflix stutter on playback, becoming unwatchable. Both work fine again now that I've switched back. If you're getting new service, don't count on having your wires buried in any kind of timely manner. Apparently that's contracted out to a second company that will get to you between the hours of next month and possibly within the next decade. Maybe. Better hope that your installation is correct the first time, and that your technician doesn't "splice your line wrong" or that you have a bad router out of the box. Both will take at least a week for tech to get to, so hope you weren't planning on actually using your new high-speed fiber internet. Feeling upset about your lack of service? NO PROBLEM! Connect to their absolutely useless self-help bot, who, after you're ready to pull your hair out, MIGHT connect you to a customer service rep that will read from a script and pretend not to know anything else about your problem. So you think, "hey, I'll give 'em a call!" Well, good luck with that. Their tech support is ALSO farmed out, and the operators will ALSO read from a script and pretend not to know anything else about your problem. And if your internet goes down for... reasons? By far, the WORST internet service I have had. Unfortunately, Windstream (Kinetic) is the only provider which can service my area so I continue to pay $110+ per month for speeds, that even under ideal conditions, seem far slower than the dial-up speeds of the 1990's. A friend was starting a new business. I recommended they go with Windstream instead of Spectrum for their Internet service. Several technicians came out to install service- only to tell her that they could only install Residential service and not Business. This happened multiple times. She asked me if I would takeover getting her Internet installed while she continued to work on other tasks with getting her business going. I spent over an hour on the phone with Windstream trying to get them to click the little box that says 'Business' instead of 'Residential'. Customer service is non-existent in this company. God help you if they are the only choice in your area!! We switched to them many years ago hoping for better service than our local supplier. We have 2 business lines, and they could NEVER get the long distance to work consistently on our second line. In 2017, our office gal passed away suddenly, and we lost our account access somehow. We switched our phone service and internet to another company this spring to get the long distance issues resolved finally. Now, they won't stop charging us a monthly bill even though we have switched providers. They say we don't have access to change our account?!?! The lady who refuses to cancel our account has a very heavy accent and is difficult to understand. They want a letter on company letterhead (which we have never had!) and a signature from an officer of the Corporation to even give us access to our account!!!! We have 4 employees..... And we don't have a "Company Administrator"...... They sent us a "Notice of Intent to Disconnect Service" with the bills for months we have not even used them... If I could give a negative review, I would. This is the worst experience I have ever had signing up for new services. On Sept. 1, I signed up for fiber internet and telephone service with a sales person (whom I'll call Mike) I had been communicating with for several weeks. My order had been put in as a green streak instead of Dry Loop (entered incorrectly). For some reason, there was also a 522 phone number associated with my business, which caused a lot of confusion. I didn't get the upgraded phone service because I already have fairly new phones and we also have 3 phones in our shop. So after my connection, on Sept. 1, I realized I had no caller ID and I was not able to call out to some numbers. I contacted Mike to ask if I should have caller ID and he said if my phone was compatible. I had caller ID in the past so I knew that it was. He put in an order to have Caller ID, delete the 522 phone number from my account and my call out issue. At the end of the week, (two weeks later) I lost internet and I still couldn't call out. When the tech came, he got the internet working. When they deleted the 522 number, I lost internet. The tech discovered I had never been signed up for long distance. Mind you, I'm trying to run a business where Caller ID and long distance are essential. The tech sent a message to Mike and he was like "Oh ok I'll get that added." I emailed Mike and told him never in a million years did I ever think I wouldn't have long distance or Caller ID. That was his job to make sure that I had the services I needed. Nor did it ever dawn on him that was why I couldn't call out to certain phone numbers. That is his job to make sure that I have those BASIC services. This is the 20th Century! I was NOT happy! So sometime in this timeframe I received my bill, which had the 522 phone number on it and was higher than Mike quoted me PLUS I was charged for EVERY LOCAL CALL I made. It also said at the bottom of my bill - "You have selected preferred long distance carrier freeze" on the following two lines--the 522 number and my phone number. Again I contacted Mike about my bill and to find out what this "Freeze" meant. Never heard back from him. So I took it upon myself to call Windstream. After being transferred to about the 4th person, none of whom spoke very clear English, I was told someone put a freeze on my long distance and she asked if I wanted it removed and I said "YES I have been trying to get long distance since Sept. 1. She said she would call back when this was completed. Never hear back from her. It is now Sept. 15, I have a whole stack of customers to call but I can't because I don't have long distance. I did use my cell phone, but I don't want customers calling and texting me on my personal cell phone. I decided to go to the vacuum shop next door to call a customer. I proceeded to tell him about my Windstream horrible experience and a Windstream truck pulls up and I said - "Oh maybe he's coming to fix my long distance." He walks into the vacuum shop. We were all talking and I proceeded to tell this gentleman about my Windstream horrible experience. He asked me for my business number and said, "I'll be in touch." It wasn't a half hour later and this gentleman called me back and said, "You have long distance." This is 15 days after signing up for new service and it took this man less than a half hour to get this accomplished. After all the hours spent on phone calls and emails to Mike and many other people, NO ONE could get this accomplished! After all these issues, on Sept. 7, I told Mike was going to go with internet only and I was switching my phone service to another supplier. He put in the order for that to happen and my new phone service with my new supplier was supposed to happen on Sept. 20. I received a call from my new supplier that Windstream would not release my phone number because I have an open order (from Sept. 7). On Friday, Sept. 22, I have NO phone service. They reassured me that this would NOT happen in the transfer to a new supplier. After more hours on the phone, they sent the tech out! I had two techs in my parking lot trying to help me regain phone service. The techs have been absolutely great and even gave me his phone number if I had any more issues. I was reassured that I would have phone service by the end of the day. Now Monday afternoon, and I still have no phone service. Again the tech came out and was able to reconnect my phone. Now, AGAIN, I have NO caller ID or long distance. The tech was able to get the caller ID added but they won't give me long distance because I am porting out my phone number to a new supplier. On Sept. 27, Windstream finally said that my new supplier should be able to get my telephone number. My new service is SUPPOSED to be installed on Oct. 2. I'm still without long distance and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I have no more issues. Never use Windstream phone service! read more

As I'm certain this has been said, I'll reiterate - if I could give a negative score, I'd give Kinetic -5 stars. "Not Good" doesn't come close (sorry Yelp). So Windstream after the class action suit against it and it's pages upon pages of shell companies, has merely slapped a new name on, hired some advertisers to give it a fresh, new, and deceptive face. From my experienc, nothing has changed. I've had Kinetic for months now, and as if they literally changed nothing but their name, I have yet to receieve the product I've paid for. Leaving aside the whole megabits vs. megabytes and that clear deceptive marketing ploy, where I live, Windstream (I'm not even going to call it Kinetic as it is clearly the same grifters and corporate pirates running things) has a monopoly. They are the ONLY service aside from even more expensive satellite internet. Consequently, they have NO incentive to do right by their customers; and they don't. I want to be crystal clear on one thing, however - the technicians who I've interacted with have been amazing. I am not dissatisfied with them. They don't own the company nor make the "criminal not criminal" decisions that ARE decided at the top to f*** people out of money they've worked hard for. How is it legal to sell a product, not deliver said product, and yet operate with impunity - cash rolling right in. I am certain of this, however - if I were to take money for a job I hadn't yet done (I am a stonemason by trade), then go and throw a few stones in a pile that sort of resembles a thing, and leave it at that...I would be held accountable. I would be forced by the court (or maybe the market if I had some competition) to make it right with those I had screwed over. Where is the accountability for these corporations? I don't often leave scathing messages with company's but you have caused Me to extreme frustration!! My husband & I built a home in beautiful Dahlonega GA 15 years ago. Windstream is a monopoly here. They are a distant provider.At first, things were fine, only occasional outages. We were Dish customers for along time. Then, the building started at UGA 2 blocks away. I'm not saying that' s to blame for our problems but it's a factor. Then comes fiber. Windstream offers me more speed, great, then they offer "fiber" Or so they call it! Then 2 yrs ago, GA net Starts laying real fiber on Grove St. Oh Boy! Is that the snswer to our problems? No ! That's only for new cus- timers!! Well, Gee, what are the rest of us paying customers? Unimportant? You bet cha!! That's what the long suffering people to windstream have had to endure. Do they tell you what's going on?? Nah! Do they make their employees from the Islands appogize for their poor business stanards And the lies they tell? Yes yes! Talk about the worst service business I have encountered in my life (70s) and I had a business for 10 yrs they should be ASHAMED! I should get a years refund!! I dont know what type of company schedules a installation and never shows up for 3 different scheduled days!!!! Customer service doesn't know nothing, and will straight up LIE...when you can get through to them...I have spoken to so many people on phone as well as on chat..no progress...I have waisted 3 whole days waiting on them. There is no excuse for any of this. I have copies of call logs, and chat conversations. Do NOT fool with this company....if u have to choose between Spectrum or Windstream go with Spectrum even if it cost more. Canceled service, was assured that I would receive a full refund of my last payment made after equipment was received. Two months later, no refund. I call and they say that they don't owe a refund, that we are square because my last payment covered my last month of service. Um, no, I canceled my service after you auto drafted the payment. I am really about to shut my account down with them, I have been with out internet for a week now, have put in MULTIPLE tickets to have it fixed, being charged for internet that I DONT HAVE, and every time it open a ticket to have it fixed, that send the Tech out to the old address I haven't been at in 3 years! Keep in mind that when I moved, a tech had to come out to the current address and install boxes, but now that there is a problem this month, they are sending him to the wrong address, and giving him some phone number to contact me that I have NEVER need before in my life so I'm not even getting text or calls from the tech. This is the second or third ticket I have had put in. I have looked at the open ticket and its STILL the WRONG address! I contacted them and they said they have fixed the address, but NOPE They had said they had fixed the address on the closed ticket while it was open (it is closed now because the address the tech went to I wasn't at because they gave him the WRONG address.....) If I have to put in 1 more ticket and wait 1 more week then I'm done! It's fucked up that they won't credit me for anything, so I'm gonna go all this time with no net and still have to pay this stupid 70$ bill (Keep in mind, I have gone a week with out it already do to their fuck up, it's gonna be at least 4-5 days before the next tech comes out, to again, the wrong address because they are to incompetent to fix the address, so again, it will be another week from that..... I bet, IF the address ever gets corrected....) Long story short, I'm going to be paying for a month of Internet, because they can't understand to fix the address in their system to the correct address, so I keep giving the tech the wrong address and phone number....
