    Blueberry muffins and latte
    Alexandra A.

A friend and I stopped in on a weekday morning and throughout our time there the place was consistently busy. I was impressed to see the staff members keeping up with the hustle and bustle. I'd consider the space small/moderate-ish. There are 2 different areas to sit at and my guess is at max capacity it's ~40 people. Their coffee menu is pretty standard when compared to other coffee shops. 1 item that stood out to me was the mocha latte. They label it as 'the most amazing mocha latte' which naturally made me want to try it. This is not my usual coffee order, I typically get a chai or a matcha so kudos for reeling me in with the fun verbiage lol. They don't offer almond milk but thankfully they do have oat so I got that instead. They aren't kidding about it being the most amazing mocha latte.. it was REAL good. It was rich, creamy and oh so delicious. I also loved the latte art. For food I got a blueberry muffin and enjoyed it. I liked that it had different textures throughout, the crumble and the smoothness of the muffin itself. It is also generous with the amount of blueberries in it. If you're looking for a breakfast sandwich or really any hot breakfast items.. sadly you won't get it here, but the muffins make up for it!

Kindred Coffee Roasters is a quaint little coffee shop in downtown West Chicago. They offer coffee and tea beverages as well as some muffins, cookies, and lunch sandwiches. They have some seating in the front and back of the shop with the ordering counter in the middle. I ordered the Lavender Latte and Blueberry Muffin per the staff's recommendation. Both were absolutely delicious! I loved the milk art and crunchy/sweet top of the muffin. Pricing was very fair. My only complaint was that their menu was bit more limited to other shops in the area. While my coffee was good, I wouldn't have new flavors to try to draw me back to visiting.

Came here again to study as they have a good spot for coffee and seating. Was not disappointed, the coffee was great and there were many unique seasonal flavors! There is also ample seating with chargers to study. Then kitchen was closed but I got the fresh made muffin which was really good with my mocha latte!

As someone who is new to the area, I was so happy to find this cute cafe! I must add, the staff a conscious effort to make everyone who walks through the door feel welcomed. And it's also a very family friendly place! The art on the walls is an added bonus. I've gotten amazing matcha lattes with oat milk here (both iced & hot), as well as the local kombucha in the front fridge (also so good). I wish there were more vegan options, but for what it is-- I'm very impressed and pleased with this cafe.

Just dropping in to say that you absolutely need to try the Choco-Chimp from their spring menu. It is an absolute hit!

Back twice in one week! Different working arrangements for us might have you not making as many stops for your morning coffee, but this place will make you re-think that! I noticed they have lots of space that could be used for studying or "working from home" but not at "home". Much nicer than any St*rbucks/Dunkin any day. This week I enjoyed their "Most Amazing Mocha on Planet Earth"(w/oat milk). So delicious and rich. It really is the best mocha I've had! And enjoyed their hot Chai Tea latte(w/oat milk) They have muffins and other pastries made fresh in house! Can't say enough good things about this business!

Matcha Latte With Hummus And Vegetable Toast

Coffee in West Chicago doesn't get any better. It has a cool ambiance along with the great aromas and flavors. Kindred is about as local as you can get. For sure better than any chain. The prices seem like they would be sky high but they aren't that bad for how good everything is. A lot to choose from. It's a small place but it has a pretty big menu. The coffee is of course the main thing. A lot of non dairy milk choices. They have everything from almond to oat. I like the Matcha Latte. It's $4.50 for a medium. This has that rich flavor it's known for, and is refreshing. Also try some food. Last time I had the Hummus And Vegetable Toast. It's $7 for a couple big pieces. They don't skimp on these. Good use of hummus rather than avocado. This gives it a different flavor but it's still a great option at breakfast and lunch. Has a surprising amount of indoor seating for a small business. It's a good place for doing some work and there's plenty of tables for everyone. The prices are reasonable on most things.

The most quintessential coffee shop! Such a lovely environment to work remotely, catch up with a friend, or people-watch while enjoying a fantastic cup of coffee. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a smile, and it made for a very welcoming ambiance. I had the seasonal Sage & Cinder latte with oat milk, and the friendly barista accompanied my half sweet, extra foam requests. It was simply delicious. There is ample seating with smaller tables up front, comfortable arm chairs, and larger tables near the back. They offer a variety of small lunch menu items that also accommodate for vegetarians and vegans. Love!

Scone Emergency = Joyful Triumph!…read more Let me tell you about these scones -- they're not just baked goods, they're buttery, crumbly little clouds of joy. Sweet, flaky perfection in every bite, with a variety of flavors so tempting it's honestly unfair to the other pastries in town. I showed up right at closing time like a woman on a mission -- I had an emergency (yes, scone emergencies are real) because my friends were taking a painfully early flight and I needed to send them off with something that said, "Bon voyage, but with carbs." Not only was I greeted with kindness, but I was offered a delightful selection of scones like it was still mid-morning! The service? Superb. Compassionate. Possibly saintly. The shop itself is also a total gem -- cozy, welcoming, and full of great energy. It's the kind of place where you want to linger, sip your coffee slowly, and pretend you're a local character in a charming indie film. The next morning, I enjoyed the outside with a fresh brew and a scone, soaking in the morning peace and feeling very pleased with myself. Meanwhile, my friends, in their sleepy travel frenzy, forgot their share of scones. TRAGIC for them. But also... YESSSS for me -- more buttery goodness to hoard enjoy! Moral of the story: come for the scones, stay for the kindness and the vibe. And if you're flying out early -- maybe forget a bag so you have an excuse to come back.

I ended up getting a karak chai and a gulab jamun cheese cake to go for $15 including $2 tip. The chai was too hot to drink right away but I kept sneaking tiny sips until it cooled off. It wasn't great, but I thought it would be better once I could get a good swallow of it. Wrong. The tea was extremely bitter (a sign of over-boiling or using too much tea leaves) and I wasn't able to discern any spices. I tried to doctor it up once I got home, but nothing helped so it went down the drain. Blech. The cheese cake should have been delicious, but it was drying out from sitting in the case too long. It was very stiff, and the outside was turning to plastic. (Not literally, but it looked and felt like it.) I didn't finish that either. This place has a great menu, and I was initially looking forward to visiting more often once I start getting allergy shots at the clinic next door, but I will save my money and spend it at La Birria Loca down the block instead.

When I approached the counter no one acknowledged me so I said hi and an employee said hello back but didn't offer to take my order, so I assumed I needed to order at the tablet which is located before the seating and counter area. While placing my order, multiple people walked past me and ordered at the counter, so that was a little confusing. Those people were eating inside, though, so I thought maybe you need to use the tablet for take-out and order at the counter for eating in. To be honest, I'm still not sure. I assume if a person approaches the counter the employee should do more than just say hello and keep working, especially when I had to say it first, so that was a bit off-putting. I had perused their menu before my trip and wanted to try the breakfast pizza but when I saw it in person it looked old and dry so I decided to try the rice crispy treat instead. Well, it was so hard I had to microwave it when I got home just to be able to eat it. While it didn't taste stale, I don't think you should serve a rock hard rice crispy to someone and ask $4.50 to boot. All that said, the iced latte I ordered was exceptionally good, so I kept that in mind for the future. A few days ago I went back and ordered the same exact latte (via their app this time), just in a larger size. It tasted nothing like the one in January. Not only that, but after taking a sip and inquiring about getting some packets of sugar, I was told there were some around the corner from the counter. All I saw was fake sugar in packets and Sugar In The Raw in an open container with a spoon. Maybe I missed where the regular sugar was, I don't know. The whole area felt really disorganized and dirty which was a turn-off. For what they charge I expect fresher food and a consistent drink experience. I want to support small businesses but this place makes that hard. I won't be back.

The building looks like it was converted from a church, and the back seating area has some high stained glass windows. In the middle of the cafe is a narrow hallway/corridor where the supply closet and the single stall bathroom is, so it segments the cafe into two areas, connected by this hallway in the center. The design feels very clearly like a remnant of an old historic building, and a brick alleyway runs along one side. In the space/room where you order (walking through the seating area and through the hallway), it opens up with huge windows and a huge industrial coffee grinder on full display. There's another counter to order, with a few pastry options, and along another side wall, a rack of F&H clothes for purchase and the drink menus. (The aesthetic reminded me of Blue Bottle.) I ordered an iced Whiskey Vanilla Latte with oak milk and it was good! I couldn't taste any whiskey at all, and when I ordered the barista had mentioned this (cooked off so you wouldn't taste it) so it was a decent vanilla latte. I'll give them props for a really cool unique flavor. We all grabbed our drinks and headed (back through the hallway) into the other room with the seating area. There is a small section with a couch, otherwise lots of tables and chairs and I was glad it wasn't too crowded so we were able to grab a table. This was a great spot to grab coffee and meet up with friends. It's in a neat little downtown area in Wheaton, and they offer creative coffee drinks, with beans and merch to purchase.
