I came here when I was driving into town for my favorite high school teacher's retirement party and to visit my dad (he was at Delnor -- he's doing well now!). I had picked up my trusty DD iced coffee early in the morning, as I also had a full work-from-home day giving presentations later in the morning and afternoon, so I needed to be fully functional. The large iced coffee wasn't enough, and I've become a matcha girly over the years and wanted the (probably psychosomatic) health perks of it before stopping by the hospital. I texted my friend who lives in Geneva at like 7am (bless her) asking where I could get a matcha, and she suggested Storybook. I remember seeing their info when they opened and hearing great things about them, so I was excited to try it. It's a very cute shop and I love the premise. I loved that they were open (and had a few people already) when I got there at like 7:30 in the morning on a Friday in mid-May. It's great to see people supporting local businesses! Also, the bathroom was clean, which is always a relief in a cafe establishment. The iced matcha (plain -- no syrups or speciality add-ins) was good, but not the best matcha I've had -- definitely more on the grassy side. But man, it's expensive. It was $8.11 after tax for the smallest size (12 oz) with oat milk. And I'm used to northshore Chicago prices, which are usually way higher than the western burbs, so I was shocked by that. (For comparison, I got a 16oz iced matcha with fresh blueberry puree and oatmilk at a French pastry place in Evanston earlier this week for $6.92 after tax, and the 16oz plain oat milk iced matcha I often get from Madam Zuzu's in Highland Park is like $5.50 after tax, or maybe $6.25 for the fancy blue butterfly pea iteration). But, I guess because this is one of the only options for matcha in the area, outside of Starbucks or Dunkin, they have the market cornered and they can charge more. Personally I wouldn't order it again because it's overpriced and not the best, in my opinion. But, I'd love to try some of their coffee options. I do hope that the shop does well and downtown Geneva desperately needs more coffee/tea options, so this is a great addition to the very cute Third Street corridor. read more

I've visited Storybook Cafe over a dozen times since they opened, and every experience has been wonderful. The team consistently provides friendly, attentive service and creates such a welcoming atmosphere. One of my favorite things about Storybook Cafe is their rotating seasonal drink menu, especially their matcha creations. The matcha is clearly high quality, and every drink I've tried has been delicious and thoughtfully crafted. I've brought several friends along on visits, and they have all enjoyed their beverages as well. Storybook Cafe has been a fantastic addition to our community. Storybook is a really cute coffee shop in quaint Downtown Geneva. It's spacious inside and there are shelves full of books. Some board games, too. It was really busy when we went, which was at 2 pm on a Thursday. It took quite a while to get our drinks, but understandable considering there were only two workers. We got a cappuccino and a Tira Miss U. The cappuccino was pretty good. They did a nice job making thick milk foam. Strong coffee but not bitter. Reasonably priced at $5.25. I've gotten a cappuccino twice from Creme & Co, but it's expensive and the milk foam is embarrassingly flimsy. My wife thought the Tira Miss U was good but too sweet. She said it's definitely a dessert drink. read more

Attempted to go here on a Saturday afternoon but there was a sign on the door stating they were out of matcha. Came back the next day as they restocked! The line was almost out the door but quickly moved. The atmosphere was clean, organized and well kept. The decor was cute! The gentleman at the register was friendly and engaging in conversation. What an incredible addition to Geneva! We went during their soft-opening and found the space overall a much more aesthetic level-up to the previous cafe that owned the space. The drink menu is so unique and has a lot of interesting flavor combinations for matcha and lattes. We both got the iced tiramisu latte, and it was such a good treat! Not too sweet and just the right amount of espresso flavor. The staff were very friendly, especially the barista who took our order. I had the tira-miss-you hot latte. I was looking for a sweeter latte and this one was perfect. I appreciate that they had 2% milk. There is tons of space here and many people were utilizing it. My friends and I went to Storybook Cafe and had the best time! The whole place has such cute vibes and the design is so well done. It feels really cozy and fun to hang out in. I ordered the sugar cookie matcha and it was so good! Perfectly sweet and the cup it was served in was so cute too. We ended up staying for hours doing a little diamond painting activity together while sipping our drinks and catching up. Just went to the small cafe and definitely new team trying to figure it out. Ordered a couple coffee's and a sandwich. Got the coffee and sandwich waited and waited finally asks for sandwich and they had no clue they needed to make me one. Server was not that busy so not sure how he missed making sandwich. I've seen this place all over Tik Tok and as someone who loves to read I was dying to go. The decor was super cute and there were lots of book-themed decorations. And uhmm can we just talk about how cute the book wall is!? If I had brought my friends I would've been posing in front of it for hours for photos. There were lots of comfortable seating options and it wasn't too loud which was nice. I ordered the tiramisu latte and the tomato, mozzarella, and pesto sandwich. Both items were fine, but I wasn't blown away. To be fair, this cafe has been getting a lot of attention because of their matcha which I'm unfortunately not a fan of in general. Super cute place with delicious food and drinks! Workers are kind and courteous. I think this place will go far and do well! Giving 3 stars because there's definitely some work to do with food safety protocols. I caught workers using tongs to retrieve food after they had dropped the tongs on the ground. Two employees saw the tongs go down and both of them went to use them after the fact. After that, the cashier noticed the timer for my sandwich in the toaster oven hadn't been set. He pulled it out with new tongs and then felt the temperature with his bare hands (after coming straight from the register). He then licked his fingers as he proceeded to wrap up my sandwich. Overall a net-positive experience and I will be back! Hope they take food safety more serious in the future. Makes me nervous for what's happening when no one is looking. read more

The shop feels performative. The decor is cute but you can't touch the books on the shelves. I showed up thinking it was like a free little library or bookstore but that's not the case. I was excited to finally get coffee on third street again- and the added bonus of a bookstore- but it's a facade. Most of the chairs are wooden so I wouldn't be able to sit here and work for hours. It is open and light with high ceilings which is welcoming and nice. My friends and I came here and got the Matcha and the Golden Madeline. They said the drinks were good and they use compostable plastic which is awesome. The prices are very high. read more
