I'm 5'1 & my dress was too long (because all dresses are when you're 5'1) and also had a lace & beaded overlay. Kim reassured me I could trust her and that my dress was in good hands. I saw her a total of 3 times... initial consultation & then 2 fittings. She had to shorten the beaded straps, cut off part of the length in the front, remove many of the lace appliqués and then carefully move them up and sew it all back together. I dropped off two long sleeve crop tops which needed to be tightened around the chest and shoulders. I was quoted with $15-$18 per piece. Even though Kim is known mainly for her alteration skills, especially on wedding dresses she did me a solid and made two dresses for me using a pattern and fabric that I already had. I came in asking if she could make me 1 dress for an upcoming Tiki Oasis convention that I go to every year. She was reluctant because she wasn't sure she would have the time but ultimately agreed to do the one dress. At the time I was having a neighbor make another dress for me for the same event. Kim did my measurements and had me come back two weeks later for a fitting and any needed tweaking. It was pretty perfect as was. I then came a few days later to pick up the finished dress and mentioned that my neighbor had an emergency and couldn't do my other dress. This is the week before the event. She said she could work on it during the weekend and would have it done. I came in the day of and picked it up and it was exactly how I wanted it. I had asked for some edits to the pattern and was concerned she wouldn't be able to pull it off. I wanted more room in the bottom part of the dress because Tiki Oasis gets hot in some of the rooms and the fabric I had chosen seemed like it would be hot. I bought my beautiful wedding dress at BHLDN and took it to 3 different places for quotes and conversations about bustling. I had no idea that a bustle could be so challenging and potentially expensive. (As a side note, why don't the designers have this built in or have directions for how the dress would best be bustled given they designed it???) All 3 places had different opinions on bustling but Kim said it could be done in a way that appealed to me and she was recommended by BHLDN so I trusted her with my dress. I had Kim alter my wedding dress. The dress itself came out good. What was really disappointing was the experience. I came in needing a few smaller alterations on my BHLDN dress - the bustle fixed, the bottom layer taken up and it let out slightly in the rib cage. Kim said she could do them. I asked her the price - she did some math in her head and she said she would keep it all under $300. I was totally stunned at my next fitting. She basically went rogue and did what she wanted. I was surprised to discover she shortened the back zipper and decided to move forward with a corset on the final 3 inches (which we never discussed and I did not want.) She made a change to the bra cups which I never asked for and made no difference to me. We eventually agreed she'd do a hook closure (instead of a corset) since she had now removed part of the zipper. When I picked up my dress, she announced my alterations would be $500. I was stunned. I reminded her she told me it would be under 300. She tried to tell me we added things. I said, no - we added about 5 hooks because she shortened the zipper. That certainly doesn't amount to an extra $200. She then told me the bustle was high end. I reminded her the bustle was part of the plan when she quoted $300. I definitely feel it was a bait and switch. If I could go back in time, I would have gone elsewhere. Like I said, in the end my dress looked good and fit well. But, weddings are stressful and expensive enough. And I didn't like walking away with an icky feeling about the whole thing. If you do go here, I highly recommend having her write down exactly what she is doing and the agreed upon price for each item. read more

Kim is Amazing! I ordered my wedding dress from the east coast and then had to seek out the perfect shop for alterations and I am so glad a co-worker recommended Kim -- She's a rockstar! I had my first appointment with Kim in April (for my July wedding) and I was worried how she would react when she saw my dress and how 'oversized' it was! I have a curvy backside so when I ordered my dress I needed to address that part of my body first, which left the top of my dress very-much to big. Then on top of that, I lost a bunch of weight. When Kim saw my dress her first words were "there's soooo much fabric here!" But she was up for the challenge and luckily my dress was full satin and not intricate layers of lace. We discussed having her sew in a bra and a couple other details, and then i dropped the bomb on her -- i was still planning to lose another 10 lbs!
