Mimi does great work and is very nice. I brought an old very thin workout shirt in that had a tear. While trying to fix it the shirt tore. Mimi bought me a brand new shirt. The tear wasn't their fault it was an old worn out shirt. The fact that she replaced it anyways shows her integrity. What an incredible gracious act on her part! read more

One of my favorite sweaters is a hand-me-down that was knitted with a range of beautiful, soft green colors. I don't care that the sweater is too big for me because I love the colors, it keeps me warm and it has sentimental value. So when the zipper broke, I searched Yelp for an excellent tailor and found Mimi's. Mimi's is very personable and professional. She quoted me what I felt was a reasonable price, and she did a fantastic job. The existing zipper had a double-pull, which I always struggled with, and the zipper fabric was brown. With my approval, Mimi's replaced it with an easy-to-use single-pull zipper on green fabric that blends beautifully into the sweater. I won't hesitate to come back to Mimi's when the need arises, and I highly recommend you give her a try! read more

I recalled an excellent seamstress who had done work for me previously. I thought she had closed due to an extensive renovation of her building in the La Costa area. But, no. She is back and thriving in an attractive and updated work space. Mimi is a talented seamstress. She handles both routine and exotic (she has helped me with some pretty off beat costuming in the past) with ability and ease. Items are ready when promised. Prices are very reasonable . I love the service, the kindness and talent at Mimi's - as I shared below, I've been coming to Mimi's since I moved to the San Diego area (from Atlanta) in 1995 and lived in Carlsbad. Even though I now live in Carmel Vallet and there is a tailor shop within a 3-minute drive, I still drive up to Mimi's to share all my alteration needs with Kim and Mimi's. You will not find a kinder, more talented alternations specialist and shop than you will find here. And Kim is always so wonderfully kind - she remembers your name, your spouse's name, your granddaughters' names, etc. And she is always willing to work within your deadlines if needed. And now that the complex has been upgraded with restaurants and coffee shop and ice cream shop, . . . . . . the drive (20-mins one way, assuming no traffic jam on the 5N) is well worth your time. read more

Due to her location, she is too busy and takes on too much work. I came to her for an important alteration, my wedding dress. One of my sleeves was crooked and the hem was still too long. I had to come back to get it fixed, which she was very gracious to do so, but during that time 5 people came in and the phone rang twice. My dress looked better, but it was not perfect, it was a bit disappointing. read more

We needed to have my daughter's prom dress hemmed within 2 weeks. Before we had her try on the dress for measuring, I asked how long it would take. The main seamstress said 3-5 days. After my daughter was measured, and after I paid, she told me 10 days. I reminded her that she originally said 3-5 days so she agreed to have it ready on a Saturday, in 7 days. But when I went to pick it up, they were "closed" to customers at 4:30 on a Saturday. By the time I was able to pick up the dress (without my daughter there to try on and check it) we barely had enough time to have it cleaned before prom. When she put the dress on (with the same shoes she was measured in) it was not hemmed properly. She was tripping over it all night. It was as though it wasn't even hemmed at all. See photo. The whole experience feels like they couldn't be bothered with us and I'll never go back. I paid $65 for a one layered hem shortening and it didn't even get done. Probably could've done it myself. We have taken several items to Mimi's for alterations. They do excellent work at a reasonable price and a relatively quick turn around. Every time I have been in the shop there have been one or two other customers , so please know you aren't guaranteed of a quick visit. It doesn't take long and they have two dressing rooms so they can cycle people through efficiently. They treat all clothing with respect and your items will be expertly tailored!! FIVE STARS! I brought my wedding dress here to Mimi's and needed a quick turn around time. Kim was so friendly and excellent! She accomplished 3 fittings within 10 days. She kept me posted on the progress by calling me. Straps taken in and made stronger with extra ribbon/fabric, green ribbon added to the waist line and tacked down, hem line and tulle layers shortened, lining and padded panels removed that caused bulkiness, and bust area pinned for a better fit. Kim is amazing at Mimi's Alternations. I have been tailoring my clothes with her for the last 3 years. Two weeks ago, Kim altered by wedding dress and my husband's tux. They came out perfect. Kim is so knowledgable in her craft. She was able to take in my dress, put in custom ties into my lace train to act as a bustle and even hand-sown lace pieces where I needed extra. To top it off, she charged a reasonable rate unlike three other tailors I went to for a quote (up to $325 less than one of the other vendors). We will not go to anyone else for our alterations. I had to write another​ review after I picked up my sequin dress that had a dollar bill sized​ patch of missing sequins. Not only do Kim at Mimi's​ flawlessly fix my damaged​ dress, she somehow fixed it without any sequins. Who does this? She expertly took the sequins​ from the hem and hand-stitched​​ them without charging me a fortune. In fact, I am embarrassed by ​ how little I paid for all the work she did. The dress was in shambles with strings hanging​ everywhere and missing sequins everywhere, too. Thanks for making my dress stunning again!! read more

I drove all the way to the tailor to pick up my clothes. I paid, drove all the way home, and discovered that the pins were still in my dress. They didn't even do the alterations I paid for. I tried to call, but they don't answer the phone and they don't have a mailbox set up. Very disappointing. read more
