I can't recommend Andy highly enough. His work is excellent, his pricing is very fair, and he's always quick with turnaround. What really makes him stand out for me is how well he handles rare vintage clothing. I've brought him delicate 1930s to 1950s pieces, and he has been careful to accommodate all of my requests, including using my own period correct thread and fabrics. Finding someone who respects the details and history of vintage garments is incredibly rare, and I feel lucky to have found him. I took dresses and slacks to Andy's store that I had worn 30 years ago. I was pleasantly surprised when I picked up the finished garments. They were a perfect fit for me. I had gained some weight around my waist. Andy used his material, to expand the waistlines. I have never seen anything done so well. Every alteration was to perfection. Some of the dresses were designer with beads and tight zippers. Andy made them perfect. I have never been so amazed in life. Do not use for leather mending. Incompetent. I don't believe they do the work there anyway but rather sub it out and hence, don't oversee the process. The project was to sew a new leather patch on my handbag. The ribbon was sloppily cut. The new leather patch laid down and sewn in a crooked manner. The project was a disaster. I was charged for this and told it was my fault as to why it came out looking like a five year old worked on this. Take responsibility for poor work. read more

I had three leather items I needed altered. I called up the Encinitas alterations center, spoke to Andy who was very friendly and welcoming. I verified that he was able to do leather alterations, and off I went. One item was a beautiful white Ted Baker jacket I had just bought that had zipper sleeves that I needed shortened. He was quite resourceful and recommended shortening the sleeves at a seam mid forearm, before the zipper and moving the sleeve up. It looks wonderful, you cannot even tell it's been altered. If you want your jeans hemmed you have to pay extra for stitching. If you do not want the stitch then just be mindful it will look like the hem is folded over. read more

A bed shirt to be shortened across the width. Measured 3x's to allow for any measurements in the drop. The owner said it need to be more...how would he know? We bantered over the measurements, I showed the diagram of the measurements but he continuously disagreed with me. Being frustrated, I submitted. Quoted price $40-50. When finished he charged $65. Laid on the mattress, indeed, not correct! Back to the man and he argued what was said. Bull! Still needed to be fixed. Pick-up, charged $40 this time. He must learn better regard with his clients. Short of having work done in Hong Kong, Andy is a good as it gets. I am extremely particular and spend a lot of money on my infrequent purchases. As I'm not model height, everything needs to be altered. Andy always does a terrific job, even with complicated work (why are the waists on jeans so big?). No attention to detail- I brought in 2 pairs of curtains, 1 blackout and 1 sheer pair. Asked for them to be hemmed, come back, pick them up, get home and realize the sheer pair are many inches different in length (isn't the first thing you'd do for curtains is to make sure they're the same?). I bring them back in and ask him to match the longer of the 2 as the longer curtain was correct. I go back in to pickup and make sure they're the same length, get home and realize that in order to make the shorter curtain longer he had to reduce the hem width quite a bit, on the longer curtain the hem was about 2 inches, the shorter curtain was about half an inch. Again, curtains are supposed to be IDENTICAL so why not fix the hem on the longer curtain to match?? I call back and ask for a refund because at this point I'm not going back in a 3rd time, and he will only refund ONE of the two curtains. I eventually agree, and then see a refund AND another charge on my credit card. So in essence no refund was given and I have curtains that don't match. Never going back here. read more

They do excellent work and are very knowledgeable. Took my daughter to get her dress altered for formal and Andy knew exactly how to make it fit perfectly. It was very delicate beaded fabric and I was worried it might get ruined but they did a fabulous job. It is expensive but worth it. read more

The man who helped me was very nice but he really got me on the prices! I had 4 items. 3 of which were not even valued more that cost of the alterations! The 4th item was a dress that a friend gave me. He charged me $100 for 4 items. I could not believe it. Is he serious with these prices to hem a pant leg?? I called him and he told me that is was bc of the material. However, I went to my regular trusted guy in San Diego and he said the material is fine if you are experienced. My regular place charges under $10 to hem! My regular place even customized a chest protector for me and didn't charge me like this! Plus, the stitching on one dress is snagged up and crooked (a $10 dress from Old Navy cost $40 to hem!!!!) and the pant legs are too short! I had to implement and tie the pant leg up so it didn't look funny. This work was NOT worth $100! When I expressed my concern he said that he would credit me $10 and he never did. I didn't bother with this place anymore. I only went here bc I was in a time crunch and could not go to my regular place. Never again. read more

The service was fast. Not expensive but not cheap either. I would not trust them to alter any expensive clothes though because they didn't seem to do a very detailed job. Andy saved my wedding dress! After another seamstress totally screwed it up - with only 3 weeks until my wedding....he was so creative and came up with a couple solutions and basically resewed the entire dress.....the lace throughout the gown had to be removed and sewed back on and each bead (there were hundreds!) had to be sewn on individually! I was so worried I even went out to get a back up dress because I really didn't think it could be saved!
