There is no dry cleaner next door and they don't take cards, only cash and checks. She was hard to understand when I came in for a hem on a small velvet skirt. Simple! Something about wanting to use a plastic pin for the hem which I declined because she said it would not be Iron able. I left it with her agreeing that she would hem it a certain way, but then I got a call later that night from her cousin suggesting another way. I did not understand what she said so I said fine, but when I picked it up, they had three layers of velvet tucked into the hem because they didn't want to cut it and do it the right way. Then when I returned to ask her to redo it she raised her voice at me and told me that" her cousin warned me it would not look good" this doesn't make sense. Why would I agree to something that someone warned me "would not be right?" And why would they suggest that. . I don't understand when people are dishonest. I'm not picky. I just wanted a hymn. This did not have to be so complicated. And treating a customer like that after you know, you did a bad job was not acceptable. I will not end up ever using this place again. read more

First time using Chiyo's. Brought my brand new first pair of Frame and AG jeans with tags still on. The other pair were already washed. The Frame jeans were flared. It looks like they doubted themselves because they hemmed it way too high! About 2 inches. So same length as my ankle jeans. I can't wear anything but flats with them to look somewhat right and I still have to pull them down. It was measured with my platform Nikes on which is what I planned on wearing with or heels. The other 2 jeans were ankle length. Hemmed Perfectly. If you know Frame jeans, then you know why I'm kicking myself. Hard! They haven't even been washed yet so they'll shrink even more. I asked for a discount while I was in the changing room (since I got original hem which they charged $28-$29 each) but husband already swiped his card. I might give them a second chance but as of right now, hard pass. TLDR- Expensive brand new jeans hemmed way too short. read more

I was referred by another bride. I came here last minute on the 10th of April. I was eloping at Aches Nationalcitynative Park on the 22nd, but on a plane to Utah on the 19th. These women were soooooooo friendly and excited for my unique wedding plans. They took into consideration my preferences and offered their expertise. Cheap & efficient

I had a cute Tori Burch blouse that I really did like, but it had a kind of awkward tie at the neck. I took it to Chiyo's and they were able to remove the neck tie and attach it to the waist instead, making it into a beautiful waist-tie blouse. I wouldn't wear it before but now it's my favorite blouse! And they were fast and very reasonably priced. read more

Took 4 jackets in for alterations one leather type with zipper. Lady name Thu was super nice. She explained process and let me know not cheap She really knew her stuff and made recommendations. I returned the next day with 6 more articles. Zipper replacements, jeans hemmed, skirts shortened. Not cheap but I called around and just 5% more than most. Excellent service! I'm such a chameleon. I'm a slim bastard during the summer. I'm a fat bastard during the winter. Chiyo's helps me find that happy medium. The gal (she doesn't look like a Chiyo?) is prompt with my tailoring requests, and has never let me down. We've been taking clothes to Chiyo's for almost 17 years! She (and her staff/family) are wonderful. Turnaround time is always quick - and she'll accommodate "rush orders" when needed. And she is especially good to her repeat/loyal customers - she knows us by name and asks after our family! How's THAT for personalized service. I have been going to Tu (Chiyo's Alternations) since I moved from Mission Valley Carlsbad about 6 years ago. Being short I knew I had to find an alteration place for basic hemming. I just happened to come upon this place. I like supporting local businesses so I thought I would give this lil place a try. Well 6 years later Tu has become such a pleasant person just to visit period. I wish I had more pants to hem to support her business and more family and friends that lived near me! And her talent for alternations has surpassed my expectations. I recently got married and needed to have my dress majorly altered because I lost weight and I had tried other premier alternation places since the dress had delicate/intricate lace and layers but the quotes were so expensive. Over the years, they have provided the typical tailoring services - pants, jackets, skirts. But my favorite backpack was losing its elasticity in the side pockets. In looking all over for a replacement, everything I found was over $100. So, I asked Chiyo's for help. The end result is perfect and exactly what I needed. Chiyo altered a bridesmaid's dress for me 15 years ago, which had multiple layers and was very tricky. She did a flawless job. Since then, Chiyo has altered jackets, dresses, pants & blouses all of which were altered really well. She has a great "eye" for what needs to be done. (She also does a great job hemming jeans.)
