I actually found this place after attempting to take my clothes to Elegant down the street but the seamstress was out so I walked my stuff down the street to Golden Needle and WOW - What a blessing in disguise! The owner of the shop is truly so kind and warm and does an incredible job of balancing between guiding you on what would work best for your clothing while also allowing you to explain what you want. I brought two brand new dresses over - one to be hemmed and the other to be taken in - and both dresses look fantastic. I don't often get my clothing altered so I was a little surprised by how much it was to shorten a single layer dress ($75) but it was only $35 to have the other one taken in. Overall, the price was still worth the quality of work and I will definitely return any time I need something altered! read more

I don't normally write bad reviews because I know how hard it is for business owners especially small businesses. But when the owner throws your money back at you maybe I should. First they messed up my wife's brand new designer pants. I just told her the back pockets are not even and it looked messy. She said the pant comes like that tried to say it's the pants not her. I said no and she kept saying bunch of nonsense and when she finally let the other lady fix it for me, I waited outside and when it was finally done. It looked better, but the back pockets were still not even and still slanted. I wasn't happy with the job but I still was willing to pay. But the lady said do not comeback next time. There's no reason for me take all the attitude from her and still pay when I am not even happy with the job just because she's elderly side. If I could I would like to pay the lady who actually tried to fix the garment but the owner was just rude as she could be. read more

This place is amazing! The owner is so caring, knowledgeable and has so much professional schooling...yes I said schooling as a master seamstress! I live in West Hollywood and had a very very expensive Johanna Ortiz thick runway piece it was a leather skirt that was beaded and embellished and double lined with silk, it was truly one of a kind. Sadly, I couldn't wear it as I needed it taken in. I took it to the tailor of the stars up in Beverly Hills, they couldn't do it as they had to have specific machines, so I took it to a custom Fur and leather coat maker in Beverly Hills & he was afraid to touch it! Everywhere I went they turned me away...About to give up I got a recommendation to try and go see the owner at golden needle & she worked her magic!!!! So I drove over 2 hours to see her I needed this altered for a very special occasion and sure enough not only was she so sweet and welcoming she measured me up in a jiffy and took and look and was the first person to confidently say No Problem! Let me tell you she is a master at her craft, it's beyond me! The piping, the layers, the embellishing it's like the skirt was never touched ! Wow she did an absolutely amazing job and I'll def be back! I wish she was closer to me. But if you live in San Diego or near by you are definitely lucky to have her in your area!! Ingi tailored my wedding dress perfectly. She hemmed the length, added an English bustle, added removable pearl straps, made the top more fitted, and covered the back of the dress to make it more modest. She also altered my bolero for the ceremony and made several alterations to make it fit perfectly. I called ahead to make sure they could mend an item for me in a timely fashion. They told me yes, bring it in! When I arrived they confirmed they could get it done by my event day, before 2pm, at a price agreed but more than I expected. I sent someone to pickup for me while I was getting ready, and they told them to come back the next day because they were too busy to get to it. I couldn't believe it! I called myself and they reported the same news, they asked if I wanted it done. I said, No! I needed them by today--not tomorrow! I went myself to pickup the garment, which they had put tray for me, and again asked, "do you want us to do it for tomorrow?" Needless to say, I'm on my way home to find my needle and thread. My custom-made wedding dress arrived the week before my wedding and was 2 inches too small (despite losing weight since the fitting). In desperation and despair, I ran straight to the Golden Needle. Not only were they able to find - millimetre by millimetre - 2" in the bodice (I didn't even have to resort to Spanx!). They also managed to: *Calm my nerves with their kindness, *Perform this miracle in 2 days, *Do such an incredible job that you would never know there had been a problem (and there were lace appliques all along the seam)! *Charge a very reasonable price. I initially enjoyed working with Inci, who is also the on-site tailor at The Bustle. However, her work was subpar, my bustle broke, and overpriced. My bustle broke literally a few moments after bustling the dress at my wedding, during the first few seconds into my choreographed first dance! It was not stepped on nor got caught on anything (I have the video footage). The bustle was simply not created strong enough to hold up my dress. I alerted the Bustle soon after my wedding to my disappointing experience, and let me know that they asked Inci to refund me the amount of the bustle. That all sounded great, however, the seamstress only refunded me $70 of my over $640 in alterations costs. She also would not commit to any reimbursement over the phone and I just have a bad taste in my mouth from the whole experience. I recently just became really incensed about this whole incident because not only was I unable to fully dance and enjoy my wedding reception because of the broken bustle, but the dress also was so horrendously dirty from being dragged around all night that I just learned my cleaning costs are now hundreds more! I was not really satisfied with the Golden Needle Tailor nor The Bustle's handling of my situation. It is important to note that I did not need any major alterations to my dress, so the total alteration costs really consisted of my bustle and slightly taking in the dress and putting in cups. I wish I knew how overpriced the alterations were before I just went with the Bustle's recommendations. I would suggest to look elsewhere for your bridal alterations for a better price point, and more importantly, quality work! read more

I was referred to this place a few years back and will only go here for alterations now. It's probably a little expensive, but I love the service and they always do such a great job. Although some of the people don't speak the best English, they are all really nice. The owner who is usually the one there to pin your items speaks English the best. To have pants shortened or hemmed is $12. I took in my wedding dress to have it shortened and have a bustle added and it cost around $300. I had a bridesmaid dress shortened and it was $60.
