Kiki's to the rescue! I was heading to La Jolla for a wedding and found out that some of the beading/embellishments on my dress came off. I considered leaving the dress as is since the missing beads were in the back of the dress but being the MOG meant everything needed to be perfect on this special day. I called down to the Nordstrom in La Jolla to see if they could do an emergency fix for me since I bought the dress from there. They couldn't accommodate me. I started yelping for places around La Jolla and found Kiki's. I called, left a message and Tammy called me back within a few minutes. I asked her if she could fit me in if I dropped off the dress on Wednesday afternoon to be picked up Thursday at noon. She said no problem. I dropped off my dress that Wednesday. Tammy assessed the fix needed and had my dress ready to go by Thursday afternoon. What a lifesaver and what exceptional service. Tammy did a fantastic job and considering the quick turnaround, $75 was not a bad price at all. read more

Perfect job in altering my daughter's wedding dress. Always busy but very much on time w appointments. Fair price. Highly recommend read more

Sad to write a review that isn't positive but, I want to be honest. I originally found this business because of the reviews but I didn't have a great experience with my wedding dress. To make things worse after altering the dress my gown was never steamed which it should have been. The bustle and the length were not done at a high standard. I was misquoted a price and I felt like every interaction was rushed and impersonal. If you don't live near this shop I don't recommend driving out to La Jolla which is notorious for tough parking. My wedding dress didn't turn out like it should have based on the reviews. read more

I came here for alterations for my wedding dress I got from Grave Loves Lace. I was nervous because my dress was so intricate and beautiful and I didn't want anything to go wrong but I truly had nothing to worry about. It turned out BEAUTIFUL and I literally couldn't even tell it was altered (in a good way). It was so seamless! 10/10 recommend :) read more

Tammy is truly the best! She did the alterations on my wedding dress a few years ago, and I've trusted her with every alteration since. Her attention to detail, care, and kindness make the whole experience effortless. I always know my clothes will fit perfectly when Tammy works her magic! read more

I found Kiki's Alteration's through a friend's recommendation, as she knew knew many people who had gone to Tammy for their wedding alterations and loved the experience. I am so happy I found her! I had a wonderful experience and felt totally confident leaving my alterations to Tammy. I just picked up my wedding dress today and it is better than I could've imagined (for reference, I bought a sample dress that had to be taken in 8 inches and redone in the bust!). I could not recommend her more. Although I am in North County, Tammy is worth the drive. Thank you Tammy!! read more

Excellent and friendly alteration service. On time and reasonable. The owner took her time to make sure the train was shushed to the right length for the evening gown. read more

I am very thankful I found Kiki's for my alterations. My wedding gown originally had buttons all down the back, but I always dreamt of a backless gown. I wasn't sure if it was possible, but Tammy assured me it was no problem! Tammy has the greatest attention to detail and I could tell she was very knowledgeable about the whole process. I visited Kiki's multiple times to make sure everything was just right. Towards the end, my dress fit too snug and Kiki was happy to help once again to ensure a perfect fit. Should I need alterations for other events, I will definitely return to Kiki's. You will be in great hands here! read more

FIVE STARS. I was referred to Kiki's from the place I purchased my wedding dress (Grace Loves Lace) and was delighted to learn it's located steps away from my elementary school in La Jolla (the memories!) Tammy was so wonderful from start to finish and altered my dress perfectly. This is a local business you can tell is incredibly special, because there are bulletin boards filled with thank you notes and Christmas cards from their customers. I'm looking forward to getting our wedding photos back from our photographer because my dress was PERFECT and I got so many compliments on it - I can't wait to update Tammy and send her a Thank You card! read more

Our family has been going to Kiki's Alterations for decades now! Tammy is wonderful and takes her time with each of her clients. She goes above and beyond to help with your alteration needs and has been an incredible help in a pinch with some short deadlines. We so appreciate Kiki and Tammy! read more

Tammy is a HOOT. I want to be her friend. Know that if you've found Kiki's alterations, you might experience a wait time, but that's because everyone is coming here. The value and attention to detail is amazing. I went back for multiple fittings for my wedding dress, and not because things were wrong, but because they want everything to be perfect for you. If something is not up to par, Tammy will tell you, and then go back and adjust it to make it absolutely perfect. A friend of mine got married several weeks before me, and she got her dress altered at David's Bridal and spent around $700. Tammy's price was WAY more reasonable, and I had the bust takin in, cups added, the bottom hemmed, a bustle added, and let me tell you it was roughly half of David's Bridal's price. If Tammy says she doesn't know where your dress is, don't be a bridezilla, she's just yankin' your chain. Your dress didn't grow feet and walk out the door. Just because we don't know her sorting system, doesn't mean she doesn't. Get to know her personality, because she's hilarious and reliable, and it'll make the process fun if you can get to know her. Kiki's Alterations is who I will go to for any and every alteration I need done in the future, and I'm coming all the way from Chula Vista. It's truly worth it. read more

If you need your wedding dress altered, this is the place to come! I took my Galia Lahav couture gown to be altered 6 weeks before my wedding and Tammy and her team worked quickly to alter it perfectly to my body. I came in 4 different times to try on and make needed adjustments... by the last fitting every detail was absolutely perfect. I loved my wedding dress alterations so much that I also brought in my after party dress to be altered. I felt so confident and beautiful at my wedding. Thank you Tammy! read more

Tammy is amazing!! She was able to fix my son's suit pockets that Nordstrom alterations said was "impossible" to repair and I would have to buy a new suit. I brought it to Tammy and she said "I'll figure it out".......and boy did she!! She repaired the lining of his pockets without a problem and the cost was very reasonable.....much better than buying a new suit. Tammy has such a creative talent that goes far beyond just doing alterations. I would highly recommend Kiki's Alterations for any job!! read more

Tammy did an incredible job altering my wedding gown. I ordered from a brand that supposedly wouldn't require alterations, but it did. Tammy stretched and grew my dress, which I didn't even know was possible. Tammy and her mom are great people and I looked forward to all my fittings at their store. I was so happy and comfortable in my gown on my wedding day thanks to Kiki's! read more

Working with Tammy was a great experience. She definitely knows what she's talking about and has good inputs. I came in with my wedding dress and needed it to be taken in, hammed, and bustled. I was able to tell her we had a lot of time since my wedding isn't until early summer and I had gone to her in February (I don't personally like to leave things like this for the last minute) and she was able to help. I will say she does get pretty busy so make sure you give yourself enough time. Also, don't go on Saturdays since that's when everyone is trying to see her. I was definitely guilty of going on Saturdays, but I went on a Tuesday and it was so much easier and quicker. I thought she was reasonably priced on what she did for my dress. She also tailored my fiancés suit and he's very pleased with her work. I highly recommend Tammy at Kiki's! read more

I was referred by a friend. Met Tammy - love her energy. I dropped off my dress and will pick it up by Friday (needed it fast). She was kind, personable, great sense of humor and very accommodating. I can't comment on the work yet - but so many great reviews - I am not worried about it! I am taking my pants there today. read more

Kiki and Tammy is the place to go to get your wedding dress fixed. The store I bought it from recommended Kiki's and I could see why. Their prices are reasonable for a great transformation. My dress was too big on my bosom area and needed to have straps added in addition to my bustle as well as a hem fix and they fixed it no problem. I didn't walk out with paying a huge bill either. Cost less than $300. read more

I can not say enough good things about working with Tammy and Kiki. I showed up with a wedding dress at least 4 sizes too big due to a bridal shop error, and requests for custom sleeves to to be added after sizing alterations, and they KILLED IT!! I couldn't be happier! They had to completely take my dress apart and put it back together, and you'd never know. They essentially sewed me a whole new dress. The custom sleeves don't even look like an afterthought! Every single bit of service was impeccable. Fast turnover, beautifully skilled work, incredible customization, and so so so personable. I can't thank them enough for making me feel like royalty on my wedding day! read more

Working with Tammy at Kiki's was one of the best decisions I made in planning my wedding - I had 3 dresses including my wedding dress altered her and the experience was stress-free each time. Tammy and Kiki are amazing and sooo talented at their craft. I never will take alterations anywhere else again! I made the mistake of not taking my wedding dress here first for alterations. Needless to say, the first place nearly ruined by dress. If it wasn't for Tammy and Kiki, my dress would have been ruined. With only two weeks before my wedding, they altered the bodice of my dress to make it fit perfectly! Tammy was terrific and kept in constant communication with me to provide updates on my dress. If you need your wedding dress altered (or any item of clothing for that matter), go here. They know what they're doing. read more

Kiki and her daughter Tami are very friendly and seem to always remember you. They really know what they're doing. They always make you try on what you want altered so they can mark and pin it accurately. They will generally be able to accommodate whatever turnaround time you need. I have to get nearly everything I buy altered, so finding a good alterations place is as hard as finding a good hairdresser. I've been going to Kiki's for years and am very pleased. If I had to say anything negative it's that every once in a while it's pricier than my other alterations place but most of time, it's worth it. read more

Kiki's Alterations - Wedding Dress - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - La Jolla, California

Kiki's Alterations was hired to add small straps to a strapless dress for the school winter dance. The first mistake we made was in not clarifying the price before the work was begun. We picked up the dress after a week, and found out they charged $50.00 to add two spaghetti straps. This seems excessive. Then, while attempting to try on the dress to make sure everything fit correctly, one of the straps came off the dress. This was unacceptable. We returned to Kiki's within approximately one hour of picking up the dress. We spoke with Tammy who did not seem concerned that we had paid an excessive amount of money for a poor alteration. The straps were attached to the dress by laying them on the inside of the bodice and placing a couple of stitches through the straps. A knowledgeable seamstress should have known that this was not going to hold, especially with a teenager attending a dance. Tammy did take the dress back to repair the broken strap after a discussion. This was not a pleasant experience and not worth the exuberant charge for low level seamstress work. On a more positive note, when we returned the next day, Tammy was much nicer and apologized for the mistake. The dress was repaired and the work was much better. And our teenager looked amazing for her dance. We won't be utilizing the services of Kiki's Alterations again. There are other far superior and more reasonably priced alternatives in the La Jolla area. If you choose to use Kiki's Alteration services, we would advise making certain you understand the pricing up front and are clear on the type of alteration being made. read more

Kikis alterations is the only place I would ever recommend taking a wedding dress. I worked directly with Tammy. I had to take off about 6 inches off my wedding dress along with taking it in and adding a bustle. Tammy did it on a major time crunch. She is a sweetheart and reasonably charged me! She helped my wedding dress fit like I glove and I couldn't have been anymore satisfied with this neat and excellent work!!! read more

I'm gonna tell you straight up how it is at Kiki's. I've been going here consistently for over 8 years. I go here often, however, I do feel Kiki and Tammy have their strengths and weaknesses like any good business. STRENGTHS/What they do well: jeans (original hem or regular), men's and women's slacks, any kind of take in or let out (on basic clothing), designer wear (suits mostly) WEAKNESSES/Lacking: it's a small shop with a lot of customers and it is only Kiki and her daughter Tammy. If they have a few people in there ahead of you, it could take a little while to be serviced because they do the measuring themselves and only have 2 small (yes closet-like) changing rooms. The longest I've ever waited was 15 minutes, and yes, it felt like an eternity, but so what. If I can't wait, I'll run another errand and stop back by later. It is a very modest/simple shop, so don't expect Margaret's of La Jolla. I was recently married (OCT 2011) and chose not to bring my wedding gown here - I had it altered through the gown alterations specialist at M Bride, where I purchased my gown. I did so because I feel gowns may be a weakness of Kiki and Tammy due to the size of the shop, time they have and the amount of simple alterations they commit to. I take everything else there and it is ready a week (or less) later - leggings, jeans, suit jackets, slacks, blouses, repairs. I've only had one problem with an alteration in all the years I've gone here. It was shortening the sleeves of a Burberry coat and I was not happy with the initial turn out and they fixed it for me no problem and I was happy with the fix. Again, because this is a mom 'n' pop shop (minus the pop!) the service is much more casual and basic, however, once I got to know the gals and they know me, we chat, they take my clothing needs seriously and the prices are fair. They know my name and treat me well. I think once you know what to expect, you can decide if this is the type of alterations shop that will work for you or not. read more

Really disappointed.. I rarely (never) buy designer jeans but I found some I loved and came here to get them hemmed on the recommendation of a nearby high end boutique. They assured me I didnt really need to keep the original hem and just to go with a regular hem. I asked them to make sure they made the cuff at the bottom the same width as the original. When I got my pants home, the cuff was smaller than the original, which was part of the charm of the pants and they were hemmed TOO SHORT. They were very friendly and I didnt have to wait when I went in to drop them off but the quality was poor and I was not happy with the results so I probably wont return. read more

I have worked with countless tailoring shops. I even started my carrier in a tailor shop. Kiki's it's a lovely spot with genuine people and a family own feeling. Their customer service it's lovely and it's not for the uptight. They work hard and in a relaxed matter. Which I like and it makes me feel comfortable. I bring them only the most high end of clothing from Rick Owens to Balenciaga and they have pleasantly surprised me. It's hard to please everyone in this kind of business but I think they are doing a great job. Keep it up! read more

Kiki worked wonders on my wedding dress! I went to her with the idea of pretty much redoing my dress. She didn't even sweat it! She made my A-line gown into a mermaid style, brought it from a size 10 to a 6 and created a beautiful sweetheart neckline. Not only that, but she is the biggest sweetheart a customer could ask for! I was always greeted and said goodbye with a hug. Don't expect to save money by going here. You pay for the quality that you get and you can expect the best! Well worth spending a few more bucks for the quality you receive. I'll be bringing all my items here! read more

I am 99% sure I have already written a review about Kiki's and Yelp deleted it but here it goes again. I have nothing but rave reviews for Kiki and Tami. They are a mother daughter team and do an amazing job on all of my alterations. They have reasonable prices for their very professional work. I have never been unhappy with anything they have done. But you know, if I was all i'd have to do was to tell them and I know they would make it right. They strive hard to please and it is obvious they work hard at what they do. I found out about Kiki's because I would buy jeans at Let's Go down the street and they sent them to Kiki's to get hemmed. Once I found that out...well, I just skipped the middle man and went there myself. I won't go anywhere else. read more

Kiki & Tammy were amazing for helping with minor alterations on my Grace Loves Lace wedding dress. They were very timely, helpful, and ensured the alterations were everything I needed. Kiki's Alterations was amazing! I worked with Tammy on my Katie May wedding dress and couldn't be happier. All of my family/friends live out of town so it was nice to have a "home" feel and Tammy was SO sweet to me. I felt like she really cared how the dress fit me. They also did my now Husband's suit and many people asked him if he had a suit made just for him...it was THAT good! It was a great experience and a very reasonable price! I'll go back to Tammy for all things I need altered! Thanks so much! read more

Kiki's Alterations - Kiki's Alterations was EXCELLENT! My dress was perfection to me! - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - La Jolla, California

I took a pair of designer jeans here based on a recommendation from a friend. The process was anything but customer friendly. The store was very busy and it took about 30 minutes before I was serviced and when I was, I was asked to step into a closet and not a changing room. Again, they were very busy so this really didn't bother me. I came out, got measured and then I had to fill out all of the paperwork myself; they provided very little input into the process. After a week, I went to pick up my jeans and the customer service was about the same; again it was packed. I got my jeans, which were perfectly done - original hem just as I had asked and for $16. So...the two times I've been it has been crazy busy. The customer service was below average. The actual product that was delivered as perfect. read more

I am a local La Jolla guy and I won't bring my families clothes any where else to get tailored. Kiki's daughter is a sweetheart, always does a great job and her prices are fair. She will even get the job done really fast if you need it to without any complaints and doesn't try to upcharge you like any of the Asian Laundry/Tailoring places try to do around here. Give this place a try, you will be happy you did. read more

I found out about Kiki's through a recommendation, not Yelp--so I really didn't know what to expect. All I knew was that I needed someone who was confident enough to alter my ballgown (not ruin it!) and to have it done within 1.5 weeks. I've come to Kiki's for ballgown alterations, and simple things like sewing on buttons or fixing a 3 inch hole in a jacket. I've been a fan since 2009. My First Experience Kiki and her daughter Tammy, know their stuff. My first time to the shop, I had a BCBG gown I wanted to shorten, and completely alter from a short sleeve to a halter. Once I told Kiki what I was imagining, without skipping a beat, she grabbed scissors and started cutting the straps! I was scared, but I had to trust her. They told me it would be done in a week and it was. I came back for a second fitting, and in total, everything was done in less than 2 weeks--which was awesome because my Marine Corps Ball was in 2 weeks! My Most Meh Experience I brought in a delicate jacket that needed some beading placed on. Came back in a week, paid, took it home, and saw that they had placed the beading gawd knows where, but my sleeve with missing beading had been untouched. Returned to Kiki's to point out the problem, and Tammy apologized and had it fixed without charging me extra. Not all businesses are perfect. Yes, Tammy does not have the most pleasant customer service attitude, but at the end of the day, you're paying for their expertise to alter your clothes, not a new friend. I'm not sure who does the alterations for things like wedding dresses/formal eveningwear, but I do know they outsource their other smaller projects like sewing buttons, hemming, etc to other tailors. I guess if you want to feel pampered, go to Nordstrom or wherever. But, if you live close to La Jolla and want a good job, come to Kiki's. Oh, and they now take credit card! read more

Go to this place to get your jeans repaired. Other alterations for shirts and wedding gowns, etc. I don't know about, but if you have holes in your jeans they will patch it up for you quite well. Nothing super fancy like chainstitching hems and whatever if you're a huge selvedge denim purist, but I've gotten a few pairs of jeans with big holes patched up, and I've been satisfied every time. Pricing is reasonable--better to get stuff repaired than buy new jeans. read more
