It comes with grilled chicken, beef and pork, as well as vermicelli, pickled carrots, cucumbers and lettuce. It usually comes with bean sprouts, but I asked for no bean sprouts. It also comes with fish sauce on the side, but I didn't use any and the marinade on the meats gave plenty of flavour and I don't like my food too saucy anyway, so I thought it was good without sauce. The meats were relatively lean, without any gristley bits so I appreciated that. The portion of meats was also good. The vermicelli was nicely cooked, not too mushy and not too hard. Vegetables were fresh. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I've read on several different platforms that service is rude. So the server I had said courteous words, but the manner in which she said them sounded brusque and abrasive to my ears. I'm not sure if that's just her usual tone. I don't know what to make of it, so I'll just leave it at that. Service was very quick. I was greeted immediately and led to a table. I got water right away. I didn't even have time to take pictures of the entire menu to post on Yelp because the server was asking me if I was ready to order shortly after giving me the menu, lol. The Long Version: This hidden restaurant space in the basement of the RE/MAX Hallmark Building has been a few different restaurants over the years. It was Table 85 when I moved to Ottawa, then it was Wei's Noodle House before it became Pho Jade. Although I think that Pho Jade may just be a rebrand of Wei's Noodle House because they have very similar menus. Wei's Noodle House already has 2 other locations in Ottawa. Anyway, I saw that Pho Jade had a BOGO (buy one get one free) deal on UberEats to get 2 Vegan Chicken Banh Mi for $14.69. So I ordered on the app for pick up. It was ready in about 20 minutes. The banh mi was tasty, but the bread they used was really dense, and not light and airy like authentic banh mi bread. The sandwich was also oddly oily like they brushed oil on the bread. The vegan chicken was fantastic. Great texture and generous amount. It tasted a bit like Gardein Chick'n. The sandwich also had cabbage, carrots and cucumbers and crunchy fried onion pieces. It was a substantial sandwich. I liked it other than the oiliness. I like that they have free parking on-site behind the building. Some spots are reserved for certain businesses and I didn't see any spots specifically for Pho Jade, so I just parked in one of the generic "Visitors' spots." I'm familiar with where the restaurant space is, but for those who don't know, you enter through the door marked RE/MAX Hallmark and go down the stairs, once you're in the basement just keep walking until you see the big open room. The seating is reminiscent of cafeteria seating and it does look and feel like you're in a dingy basement, lol. My order was ready and packed when I arrived. Staff were pleasant and pickup was quick and smooth. I thought it was nice that they wrote me a handwritten note with my order thanking me for my order. Overall, I was happy with the food. I would have been happier if the banh mi was less oily, but it was still good. Although truth be told, I would consider it more a Vietnamese inspired sandwich than a true authentic Vietnamese banh mi ;) On another occasion I tried their Tofu Banh Mi ($12.99) and it was much less oily than their Vegan Chicken Banh Mi. I also tried their pork bao buns (2 for $7.99), which were small and the BBQ pork filling was a bit fatty. I also had their Steamed Layer Cake ($4.50) which was good after a quick warm up in the microwave. The texture is a bit chewy and it had a pandan and mung bean flavour. While I enjoyed the food, I didn't see anything about it that made it stand out from all of the other sushi joints around town, that would make this a specific destination for me. At first I was confused as to where the menu was; the gal behind the counter never greeted us or told us where to look so I took it upon myself to pick up what looked like a take-out menu and chose my order from it. I tried the: *Inari ($4 for two pieces): They're a really decent size. I will try to upload a picture so you can see how huge it was compared to most sushi joints. I am used to plain old Inari with just bean curd and rice, but this one contained marinated shiitake mushrooms and green onions, and it tasted really nice. It wasn't ice cold, which is something I really appreciated. *Avocado Hosomaki Roll ($3.50 for 6 small pieces): The roll was kind of small, but that was expected as it was mentioned on the menu. The avocado was just right and the seaweed was great too. *Yasai Futomaki Roll ($6.25 for 5 big pieces, contains Avocado, Cucumber, Carrot, Red Pepper, Marinated Shiitake and Sesame Seeds): This is your standard vegetable roll. I actually got full off my two other items so I ended up taking the rest home with me. It was yummy. :) *Organic Spring Jasmine Tea ($3.50 for a small pot): The gal at the counter asked if I wanted to try out the tea, and since I LOVE tea, I did. Wow... so good. Yum! I was so impressed that I ordered a pot for my friend and I. I thought the portion was quite small though for the price I paid... I'm used to getting free tea with my sushi, so paying that much for such a small pot kind of sucked. Their soy sauce is in 37% less sodium containers, and I'm not sure if it actually was that type of soy sauce in it, but I found it less yummy than I've had elsewhere. It's really not a deal breaker for me though. I will definitely be back here to try out their soup and salad, for which they only have a couple vegan options: Veggie Nippon Salad, Miso Soup (I still have to check if it's vegan though) and Coriander Soup. They also have a Vegetarian Spring Maki Roll and a Kampai Hosomaki Roll I'd like to try. Thumbs up: OK portion sizes, taste, and smiley people. Thumbs down: No free cup of tea when you order in...and a little pricey for the portion sizes. Also, the table and soy sauce container were both sticky. That's actually a huge pet peeve of mine. The Long Version: Hong's Kitchen opened up Spring of 2026. They'd been opened about 2 months when we visited. My husband and I had lunch there. My husband got the grilled beef banh mi ($11.99) and I got the grilled chicken banh mi ($11.99). Our intention was to share and we must look like that kind of couple because the server asked us if we'd like both sandwiches cut in half, lol. Oh we also asked them to hold the cilantro. The banh mi came out fairly quickly and they were both delicious. Both sandwiches had the usual pickled carrots and pickled daikon toppings. They also had cucumbers and pickled cabbage, which added a nice crunch that I liked. The beef had a lemongrass flavour that I enjoyed and the chicken had a sweet grilled flavour that I also liked. The sandwich wasn't too saucy which I appreciated. The bread was more like a hoagie bun though as opposed to an authentic Vietnamese baguette which is crusty on the outside and airy on the inside. Although less authentic, it did make for less of a mess as Vietnamese baguettes leave crumbs everywhere! Lol. Both my husband and I still enjoyed the sandwiches. Service was friendly and attentive. We were offered water and our server came to refill our glasses without us having to ask. I found out the server is the owner's son. He was great. Decor is very cute. Velour chairs with pictures of birds on the walls. A mix of regular tables and high tables with checkered floors. The space was VIV (Vain in Versailles) before it was Hong's Kitchen. It's been many other restaurants over the years (including The Foolish Chicken (after it moved from Holland Ave), Mason-Dixon, Quan Viet Fusion, and Khao Thai had a location here once upon a time). I love that Hong's Kitchen has some Vietnamese dishes that are harder to find in Ottawa such as Banh Xeo (crispy crepes) and Banh Beo (steamed rice cakes topped with mung bean paste and shrimps). We had the banh xeo and the chicken and spring roll vermicelli bowls and they were solid! I had the three colour dessert (beans and coconut milk and shaved ice). Service was very attentive but appropriate. Decor and ambience is nice and warm. Place is clean and well kept (from the looks of the sauce dispensers in particular). All the noodle soups are $7.95 for a small, $8.95 for a medium and $9.95 for a large. I got a medium and although I have a big appetite, I felt it was the right size for me. I usually get greedy and order the largest size possible since the difference in physical size between a small and a large (or x-large if they have such a thing) is significant, yet the difference in price is usually just a couple of bucks. I probably would have been able to finish a large, but I likely would have been uncomfortably full. With a medium, I was satiated, but still comfortable. My noodle soup was good, but I found the broth a little on the sweet side for me. It wasn't super greasy/oily, which I appreciated, but it also wasn't very fragrant. I got 1 large shrimp in the soup and the shrimp cake on the side contained 2 shrimp (which was cool because most places only give you 1 shrimp in the shrimp cake). The calamari rings were too chewy for me, not quite like a rubber band, but close. The imitation crab was ok and the fried fish cake slices were good, but some slices were razor thin - literally like shaved deli meat thickness! Some slices were normal thickness though. The soup had fried onions in it, as well as shredded savoy cabbage. They brought me a small plate of bean sprouts, basil leaves and a lime wedge (as is traditionally served with noodle soups), but I said I didn't want it so they brought it back to the kitchen. The shrimp cake was tastier than most shrimp cakes that I've had. It was doughy and slightly chewy on the inside, but crispy on the outside. My only compliant is that it tasted like the oil it was fried in was a little old and could have used a change. The tapioca noodles were nice and chewy and they didn't skimp out on the quantity. Service was good. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and they poured me some ice water shortly after I was seated. They give you a pen and a piece of paper the size of a post-it note and you write your order on it. I was served by both a young man and a young woman. They were both very nice and checked up on me. Now when I went to pay at the cash register, I noticed on the bill that they had charged me an extra $1 for "tapioca noodles." I questioned this charge, as I did not order extra noodles and nowhere on the menu does it say there is an extra charge for tapioca noodles. On the menu H11 is described as "seafood medley, crispy shrimp cracker with tapioca noodles." Both servers seemed as confused about the charge as I was and both denied punching in the extra charge, so in the end they just corrected my bill. I thought the whole situation was a little weird. Nevertheless, they were nice about it all. Decor is that of a casual eatery. The restaurant is in a strip mall next to Popeye's (the supplement store). There's lots of free parking. Overall, 3.5 stars from me.

When I entered the restaurant it seemed small and it was quite hot in there. We were greeted by the hostess and she seated us and proceeded to bring a kettle of green tea. I almost left but my mom suggested we switch to a different area (near the windows) and my perspective totally changed (I guess being away from the kitchen helped). I ordered some chicken spring rolls to start and within a few minutes, our order arrived. It was deliciously made and it tasted amazing. We ordered two large H6 (pork pho) and Oh My Gawddd they brought two humongous bowls with a plate with the condiments. The table already comes prepared with 3 different sauces. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the broth tasted fresh, it was not my first time at a pho house but my GOD this restaurant makes really great pho. The staff was very attentive but not overwhelming, the washroom is very clean. I had a really good experience at this place, as always..please support your local small businesses.

The Long Version: Noodlebox is a Canadian company that started in Victoria, BC in 2001 as a food cart. This location in Vanier was the first one in Ottawa. At the time of the writing of this review there is another location in Stittsville, but those are the only 2 in Ottawa. They make your food to order and there are a lot of customizations, like you can choose the noodles, the amount of spice, and you can add or remove items. I got the Crispy Shanghai Chicken Box. In the store it sells for $15.95 but UberEats was having a BOGO (buy one get one free) deal so it was $18.95 for 2. I got my order through UberEats. I chose Hokkien noodles, which are thick noodles popular in Malaysian dishes. I also requested no bean sprouts, no canola oil, and no sesame seeds and my order came as requested. I feel the dish was still a bit greasy/oily, but I guess less so than it would have been (?). The flavour was pretty good. And despite choosing the least spicy option available on the app (mild/medium) it was pretty spicy, lol. Not sure if they made a mistake, but i feel it was a true medium, not mild at all. I got this to share with my parents and my mom could only eat a tiny bit due to the spice. My dad loved it though. So he and I ate most of it. Lol. The noodles were a nice springy and chewy texture. The vegetables included were carrots, cabbage a tiny bit of broccoli. There were also green onions and crushed peanuts. The chicken tasted like cut up chicken nuggets. There was more breading than meat and it was processed meat, not like real chicken breast. This is the only thing I didn't like. I will need to try a different stir-fry and get their grilled chicken and see how that is. Service was courteous and efficient. My food was ready in less than 10 minutes. There was only one staff member there. He was mopping the floors when I arrived. He stopped mopping the floors, washed his hands and then helped me. I liked this. Bonus points for good hand hygiene. There are 2 tables for 2 to dine in. It's mostly a takeout joint. Ambiance is fast food restaurant. For the price that I paid and the fact that it's fast food made to order with the option for lots of customizations, I think it was not bad. I didn't like the overly breaded chicken nuggets that they passed for crispy chicken though, lol. I would return to try their other options.
