Jinsei Ramen is a little gem hidden in plain sight! They just opened in March 2023 in the L'esplanade Laurier building. They are on the second floor, so you can use the exterior stairs to get to their exterior entrance, or you can enter the building and take the elevators to get to one of their 2 interior entrances. The place is much bigger than I expected. It's also brand spanking new, and very clean and tidy looking. My husband and I got a few appetizers to share, as we weren't particularly hungry but are always up for snacks, lol. It was close to 2pm on a Saturday. We got the Chicken Karaage ($7.65), Gyoza (3 for $4) and Pumpkin Croquettes (2 for $5). We got our food fairly quickly because we were the only customers in the entire restaurant. I had advised the server that I can't eat sesame seeds, as I know some places like to sprinkle sesame seeds on everything, lol. The server was very vigilant and after speaking with the kitchen told me that some of the items contained sesame oil. Fortunately for me, I just can't have the seeds but the oil is ok. I appreciated her thoroughness. She was great. Very pleasant and refilled our waters when she saw they were getting low. On to the food! The Chicken Karaage was by far our favourite. It was so crispy and crunchy on the outside and so tender and juicy on the inside. It was thigh meat, which my husband loved. I personally always prefer breast meat, but I really enjoyed it anyway. It was so flavourful and delicious. I dipped it in the accompanying mustard-based sauce, but it didn't really need any sauce. It was totally good on its own. I definitely recommend this dish. The Gyoza were good too. They were deep-fried and so crunchy. The skin was all blistery which I loved. It had ground pork, onion and leeks in it. It came with a soy-based sauce. The Pumpkin Croquettes were good too. I liked them, but my husband was less of a fan. They were breaded and crunchy on the outside and smooth and creamy on the inside. The pumpkin was sweet and tasted like it was pureed. I would compare liken them to mashed potato croquettes. The presentation was simple, yet beautiful, on black rectangular plates. They provided both chopsticks and a fork for utensils. Looking forward to trying out their ramen. They only have 4 ramen varieties right now, and 3 of them contain chashu, which I personally find too fatty, and the other ramen is vegetarian. I would love to see a grilled chicken or chicken karaage ramen option :) I realize that I'm reviewing a ramen place without trying the ramen, lol, but I just wanted to get the word out there about this new restaurant. They have very little internet presence and other than a sandwich board at the base of the stairs, very little advertisement. I was most impressed by what I experienced, so I'm hoping they do well. Street parking only.

The Short Version: Ramen and Poke restaurant not far from…read morethe Ottawa airport. Good food, nice ambiance and excellent service. The Long Version: My mom and I had lunch here and we enjoyed it. My mom got the Kimono Ramen $22 and I got the Chicken Kaarage Poke Bowl $19. My bowl wasn't on the menu in the restaurant but I asked the server if it was available because I saw it on a menu online and she said that it was in fact available :) My mom's ramen came with pork belly, grilled chicken breast, wood ear mushrooms, bamboo, bean sprouts, a marinaded egg, and ramen noodles. She asked them to hold the sesame seeds so that I could have some. I had a taste of everything except for the pork belly (it was too fatty for me, lol, but my mom liked it), and I thought it was tasty. The ramen noodles were nice and chewy (she chose the thick noodles) and the broth was good. It wasn't too salty. I liked the lean grilled chicken breast as well. My poke bowl came with sushi rice, mixed greens, edamame, cucumbers, avocado, shredded carrots, and shredded surimi crab (they call this Kani salad, it's basically shredded imitation crab with maybe a bit of mayo). I got 5 pieces of chicken kaarage. They were crispy and nicely seasoned. I enjoyed them despite them being dark meat, lol. The vegetable ingredients were fresh. The sushi rice was a bit clumpy, but once I mixed all the ingredients together, it was fine. Service was wonderful. We were greeted right away and brought a carafe of water. Once we got our food the server noticed we were trying to share a bit of our meals with each other and she offered to bring us 2 small bowls. The bowls were incredibly helpful and made sharing much better and less messy, lol. I felt the food was about 4 stars but the thoughtful and attentive service bumps this place up an extra star in my books. Decor is pretty. Design is sleek and modern. The restaurant is in a plaza with several other restaurants and shops, including T&T Supermarket. Free parking available in the plaza parking lot. Review #80 (2026)

Atmosphere worse with the very loud K-pop music and the restaurant's food app constantly dinging at the highest of volumes every 3 seconds. Acoustics, not great. Seating not the most comfortable. Tables are tiny. Not a lot of room. The food.. the fried chicken appy is a must.. perfect fried and golden, come out nice and hot. Gyoza with garlic and onion, good. Would get plain gyoza if I came back here. I love onion but it was a crazy amount. I kept most on the side for my ramen. Ramen.. not a lot of choice. I settled for the popular Black Shin which just means black garlic was added to the Shin. I brought my own cayenne pepper which is good as they kept forgetting to bring the chili oil. I never got it. Had to ask many times for soy sauce, came at the end of the meal. The noodles themselves were good. I brought my leftover broth home, I never waste a drop! Alcohol, you can choose from a beer (Sapporo) or sake. We opted for just water. Maybe an ok place for take out but I would think twice about being seated in here.

They have a good selection and apps and also noodles which are more individual meal portions but we decided to share and try everything. On Tuesdays, they have yakitori and I would love to come back to try that. The scallop crudo was lightly seasoned and fresh. I feel like it could have used a bit more citrus but overall it was good! The Korean fried chicken wings/drums were saucy, with something that tasted like a gochujang based sauce, as well as a ranch with dill. I didn't really taste the miso in the ranch too much, but I did enjoy the flavour profile. We also had the chicken karaage, which was lightly breaded and fried, and paired with a mayo. It was ok but a little plain. Next, we had the dan dan noodles. Dan dan noodles are traditionally very chewy have a nice bite to them but these noodles are a bit on the softer side. The flavour profile was good though. Lastly, we had the beast ramen. The smoked pork belly was nice and crisp and the soft boiled egg was nicely cooked. The noodles seem to be the same ones used in the dan dan noodles. It was enjoyable but the broth wasn't exactly ramen broth that I am used to. I would say that overall it was enjoyable, and prices were reasonable. Service was great. But there is definitely some room for improvement on the dishes. I would consider this more Asian fusion than a noodle bar.
