a plate of sushi with salmon
    Gladys C.

I have ordered a premade platter before and I have also chosen to order my own rolls over the phone for pick up. I love the spicy salmon and spider roll (soft shell crab) rolls. This is THE ONLY place in Ottawa that I have found with comparable sushi platters to the small sushi shops in Markham. The fish tastes fresh and the rolls are reasonably priced. I just wish it was closer to downtown! Remember to place your order in advance cause they get super busy!!

California and Futomaki Lunch Special $10.10 with tax.

I got takeout from Hello Sushi Man recently and it was pretty good. Now full disclosure: I don't eat "real" sushi (i.e sashimi or even nigiri). I pretty much just eat maki and only if there's no raw fish in it. So this is the angle from which I am writing my review. I had the Futomaki and California Roll Lunch Special $8.95 (5 pieces of futomaki and 6 pieces of California). I loved that the filling to rice ratio was high. There wasn't a lot of rice. The rice was the right amount of sticky and wasn't overly vinegary. The California rolls had the usual ingredients of imitation crab, avocado and cucumber. However, they get bonus points for using tobiko instead of the usual masago. I loved the crunchiness of the cucumber with the creaminess of the avocado, plus the tobiko bursting in my mouth - it was all delicious. The Futomaki rolls contained imitation crab, cucumber, Japanese omelette, radish and kampyo. I found this roll to have too many "pickled" ingredients so it was too vinegary for my liking and it was slightly sweet as well. All rolls are made to order. They don't have pre-packed boxes. They had lots of phone orders when I arrived at noon on a Thursday. I waited 15 minutes for my order. The staff were nice. The place is very small. There is one round table with some bar stools and a couch. It is definitely a takeout place not a sit-down restaurant. It's in a strip mall so there is free parking.

Hello Sushi Man is stellar for Ottawa. Its probably the best in terms of quality. They don't have all the fish due to the fact to customers order main stream fish. What they have is fresh. Love them and mainly take out!

Simply the best sushi in Orleans hands down. Beats the alternatives by a country mile.

One of the best Japanese place in town. No dine-in and a bit pricey, but totally worth it. The food is so fresh and authentic.

Every time I eat sushi somewhere else I think of this place. It is the bar. By far the best.

The salmon did not taste fresh. Loved their other sushi's but wish the salmon tasted more fresh & not stale.

This is my favourite Sushi place in Orleans. The fish are always fresh and the rolls are very tasty! I highly recommend them.

It's just a take out and delivery place, so they only have benches at the front for you to wait at for your order if you're picking up.

I got the Maki Combo…read moreB, and while presentation was not super duper, the taste was pretty good, and that's what matters most. So Maki Combo B is 30 pieces for $20, which is a great deal! The menu said you're supposed to get 6 varieties, but I only got 5 different types, but I got 30 pieces in total (and I think I didn't get the cucumber maki, which I think is meh anyway, so I was cool with what I got). The menu says you're supposed to get California roll, salmon Maki, spicy tuna roll, shrimp roll, cucumber maki and spicy avocado roll. I called in my order and requested no sesame seeds, and they were able to accommodate that no problem. Service was courteous and efficient. They said my order would be ready in 30 minutes and when I arrived 30 minutes later, it was ready. The place is takeout only, there is absolutely no place to dine in, it's just a small counter. The presentation was like grocery store sushi, lol. Pieces not all that uniform and squished together into a box. Luckily, the taste was much better than grocery store sushi. I mean, it's no fancy Japanese restaurant sushi, but for takeout sushi and considering the price, it was a great deal. I like that it's a small independently owned restaurant. And since Blackburn Hamlet doesn't have many restaurants, I hope it will do well. Last time I tried to order was a Saturday evening and I just walked in and they were inundated with orders and apologized and said it would take over an hour. I said I would try another time and call in my order, and that's what I did (on a Sunday evening) and it worked out great. It's in a strip mall. Same strip mall as Metro and Jumbo Restaurant (Chinese takeout). Lots of free parking.

New Sushi recently opened up on December 7, 2023 in the plaza at Tenth Line and Brian Coburn in Orleans. I got to try them at a party at my parents' house. My brother brought the Party Tray C (which was 64 pieces for $63). The price was great and the platter was aesthetically pleasing, but the rice was really bland. It tasted like plain rice. It could have used some seasoning and rice vinegar. The maki were well rolled though, they did not fall apart like at some places. I don't eat pickled ginger or wasabi, so I can't personally comment on these, but my brother and sister-in-law were not a fan of these items from there. I was very happy though, that they accomodated the request for no sesame seeds. The Party Tray C had 16 nigiri, 24 maki and 24 sashimi. The sashimi slices were nice and thick. You get 4 pieces each of shrimp, crab stick, white tuna, salmon, snapper and surf clam. The maki were 6 pieces each of California, Dynamite, spicy salmon and cucumber. The nigiri were 2 pieces each of shrimp, crab stick, white tuna, red tuna, salmon, snapper, squid and mackerel. Good variety. They also have an all maki platter (Party Tray B, 60 pieces for $59) for those who prefer just rolls (like me). My brother and sister-in-law were more critical of this place, but I thought it was good, other than the bland rice. Ingredients tasted fresh and I liked the maki. I didn't have any nigiri or sashimi. There's lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot. (19)
