TLDR: OK sushi place. Great prices, and aesthetically nice looking, but the rice was super bland…read more Definitely needs more seasonings. New Sushi recently opened up on December 7, 2023 in the plaza at Tenth Line and Brian Coburn in Orleans. I got to try them at a party at my parents' house. My brother brought the Party Tray C (which was 64 pieces for $63). The price was great and the platter was aesthetically pleasing, but the rice was really bland. It tasted like plain rice. It could have used some seasoning and rice vinegar. The maki were well rolled though, they did not fall apart like at some places. I don't eat pickled ginger or wasabi, so I can't personally comment on these, but my brother and sister-in-law were not a fan of these items from there. I was very happy though, that they accomodated the request for no sesame seeds. The Party Tray C had 16 nigiri, 24 maki and 24 sashimi. The sashimi slices were nice and thick. You get 4 pieces each of shrimp, crab stick, white tuna, salmon, snapper and surf clam. The maki were 6 pieces each of California, Dynamite, spicy salmon and cucumber. The nigiri were 2 pieces each of shrimp, crab stick, white tuna, red tuna, salmon, snapper, squid and mackerel. Good variety. They also have an all maki platter (Party Tray B, 60 pieces for $59) for those who prefer just rolls (like me). My brother and sister-in-law were more critical of this place, but I thought it was good, other than the bland rice. Ingredients tasted fresh and I liked the maki. I didn't have any nigiri or sashimi. There's lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot. (19)

I've been wanting to try Sushi29 since it opened and finally got around to it! I got the Maki Combo…read moreB, and while presentation was not super duper, the taste was pretty good, and that's what matters most. So Maki Combo B is 30 pieces for $20, which is a great deal! The menu said you're supposed to get 6 varieties, but I only got 5 different types, but I got 30 pieces in total (and I think I didn't get the cucumber maki, which I think is meh anyway, so I was cool with what I got). The menu says you're supposed to get California roll, salmon Maki, spicy tuna roll, shrimp roll, cucumber maki and spicy avocado roll. I called in my order and requested no sesame seeds, and they were able to accommodate that no problem. Service was courteous and efficient. They said my order would be ready in 30 minutes and when I arrived 30 minutes later, it was ready. The place is takeout only, there is absolutely no place to dine in, it's just a small counter. The presentation was like grocery store sushi, lol. Pieces not all that uniform and squished together into a box. Luckily, the taste was much better than grocery store sushi. I mean, it's no fancy Japanese restaurant sushi, but for takeout sushi and considering the price, it was a great deal. I like that it's a small independently owned restaurant. And since Blackburn Hamlet doesn't have many restaurants, I hope it will do well. Last time I tried to order was a Saturday evening and I just walked in and they were inundated with orders and apologized and said it would take over an hour. I said I would try another time and call in my order, and that's what I did (on a Sunday evening) and it worked out great. It's in a strip mall. Same strip mall as Metro and Jumbo Restaurant (Chinese takeout). Lots of free parking.

I would rank it on par with food court Thai food, like Thai Express in terms of taste, but the prices were higher than at food courts. This location is takeout and delivery only. Absolutely no place to sit and eat. Their full service restaurant is on St. Joseph. The Thai Dinner for 4 consisted of 8 spring rolls, 10 gyoza, chicken pad thai, chicken coconut curry, basil beef, 2 steamed rice, and fortune cookies, for $66.95, plus tax. When you pick up and your order exceeds $50 before taxes you get your choice of California rolls, fried rice or potstickers for free. I chose the California rolls. The spring rolls were hot and crispy and had a very strong five spice aroma to it. They were vegetarian with cabbage, carrots, onions, bean sprouts, and vermicelli noodles. These were actually better than typical food court spring rolls. The gyoza were very good. They were crispy on the outside and filled with pork and cabbage. The chicken pad thai was really bland and plain. It was mostly noodles, with a few slices of chicken. There were minimal vegetables, only a few slices of celery, onions and some beans sprouts. The menu said it contained carrots, but I didn't see or taste any. I was disappointed with this dish :( The chicken coconut curry had more flavour, but had way too many onions in my opinion. It also had broccoli, zucchini, celery, carrots, and mushrooms. It was a tiny bit spicy. The basil beef also had too many onions in my opinion. It had the exact same vegetables as the curry dish. The sauce was a bit spicier than the curry. The rice was good, not too mushy nor too dry. The free California rolls were ok. The avocado and cucumbers tasted fresh. They tasted better than grocery store sushi like at Loblaws, but not as good as fast food sushi like Sushi Shop or Sushi Go, at least that is my opinion. I called in my order and was told it would take an hour. Their estimate was accurate, as they were just finishing up my order when I arrived an hour later. Service was courteous. The restaurant is in the Millennium Plaza at Trim and Innes. It's right next to Yalla Yalla, and in the same plaza as Sobeys and CIBC Bank. Lots of free parking.

Seriously...seriously....seriously...as good as it gets!…read more Sushi was super fresh and hella tasty! Ordered the California roll and avocado roll. The California roll had mayo inside the roll which made it more melt in your mouth goodness. Avocado roll was buttery and delicious! Rice was perfectly seasoned and super fresh! They weren't stingy with the avocado in the rolls either! Also ordered hot and sour soup, almond guy ding, crispy beef (for the hubby), spring roll (which thankfully DID NOT taste like deep fryer oil...it was AH-MAZING!) , egg rolls and a won ton soup. Everything came nicely packed, and the delivery was pretty quick, especially when they noted to us that they were super busy and delivery might take a bit longer. Seriously, with this restaurant having such a diverse and yummy menu, I am not even going to waste my time ordering from other asian restaurants anymore when this place seriously hits the spot every time.
