This is my go to sushi place in Tracy. Not the fanciest but is reliable. They are open long hours and always have great fish.

With so many sushi spots located in Tracy it's hard to choose one for consistency. Kimono has always been consistent, reasonably priced, and decent service. Pros- there's a wide variety of rolls, nigiri, noodles, and appetizers. The fish is sushi grade and has been of good quality whenever I have eaten there. The service is decent during a non-rush hour. The space is decorated well and theres plenty of seating. Cons- the rolls could be rolled better... they seem to fall apart easily. Service is decent, no serious complaints. For someone just enjoying their lunch it might work. But if I had my family of 4 sitting with me it would have been less than necessary. The employees never checked on me until bringing the check. Again it was fine for me by myself. Other times I have been with one other person during dinner time and the service was not as good. This review is for the dinner bento box. About a month ago for take-out, ordered the teriyaki beef bento. Beef was cooked good and tasted great. Today, we dined-in and couldn't believe the difference in taste. Beef was bland, didn't have that grilled flavor, and seemed like it had been sitting out before being plated. It was semi-cold and not pleasantly warm. Unfortunately, the food is not consistent in taste. Maybe different beef cut or different chef, but nonetheless it should have some kind of consistency. The other food items in the bento box that was ordered dining-in was fine. I don't recommend the teriyaki beef. Dine-in service was good and the workers are friendly. Atmosphere was pleasant. Music playing in the background. Nothing too loud. Seating includes booths and regular tables and chairs. read more

I came here twice recently and the service and food was great both times. I was concerned at first because there was a review saying that the food was being served in take-out boxes but that wasn't the case with my visits. The first time was with my siblings. There was only three of us and we definitely ordered too much for three. We got the fried calamari, dragon roll, Donald Duck roll, chicken teriyaki rice plate, chicken katsu rice plate, and we also took advantage of the free California roll! The rice plates are huge! They gave so much chicken that we couldn't even finish them. All the food came over relatively fast and it was delicious. Everything tasted fresh and the rice plates came out very hot. We ended up finishing the sushi and took the rice plates home. The second time, I went with my boyfriend and my cousin. Another party of three but I definitely learned my lesson this time. We all got one thing each, a bento box, an ITT roll, and the raging fire roll. Again, it came out quickly and everything was fresh and yummy. Service here was the same again! Everything was amazing! I was visiting family and ordered here for to-go. It was a huge order but we only waited for 10 mins or so. We didn't even feel the time pass as they gave us some house tea to drink while we wait. As I was doing so, I was admiring their decor. They have wall art with fans which I though was pretty cool and they have paper umbrella on their ceiling! I also loved the way their sashimi looked at their sushi bar. I was entertained with watching the the chef behind the bar so his magic. As they were handing me this big order, they mentioned that they packed me some free California roll. That reminded me of how my grandma would pack me lunch and telling me I packed you some extra treats Went home and opened all the boxes of food and they all looked amazing! Each bite I took was packed with flavors that complimented one another. Their sashimi tasted so fresh. Definitely no complaints with all the food that we ordered. My favorite roll was Donald Duck with had deep fried scallops as they used tempura mix to deep fry them! Man, i see why this place has so many 1 stars. Imagine placing an order 2 hours ahead and going there to find out they didnt check to see it. Even tho it was confirmed right away. I don't know why more people are not talking about the smell in this restaurant. Upon walking in, we were hit with a strong sewage smell. Service was not good. Our sushi was too fishy. My appetizer came out at I was finishing my entree. It took 20 minutes of waiting for our check before we had to finally ask for it. They have a refrigerator in the hall on the way back toward the bathroom where they keep the salad stuff. Anyone can just reach in there and mess with the food they are serving to their customers. I stopped into Kimono the other night to get takeout with my son last Saturday. When we arrived the owner greeted us and had our Togo order ready to go. We got a variety of items in our order, all were pretty good. Both my kids got the kids bento box with salmon & rice. My wife & I spoilt some rolls, I'm a red dragon guy, and there's was pretty good. One item we ordered and were impressed with was the Donald Duck roll. It had fried little balls of shrimp, crab, & spicy Mayo. We also shared the jungle roll. I typically don't get rolls with cream cheese but I just wanted to try this one. It was tasty and didn't have too much cream cheese. The spicy Mayo helped counter it too. To me when you cook with cream cheese you have to be careful on how big of portions of it you use in your cooking, it can over power all the other ingredients. 2nd time reviewing this restaurant because I just can't say enough good things about the sushi. This is a small restaurant and if you don't know its there, you'll drive right by it, but to me, this is the best sushi I have had in the Bay Area. Really great quality, very creative presentations, and it's not over priced. My favorite is the Ichiban Maki. 3 fish + crab wrapped in a cucumber wrap (no rice). Really light and really healthy. I add siracha and fried jalapenos on mine, but I like spicy. The monster roll is another favorite of mine. They also offer a few great sashimi style apps, Spicy Hamachi (yellowtail), Sakefin (salmon) and Albacore Pepperfin (Tuna) which are just sashimi style pieces of fish with a variation of ponzu, jalapeno, mango and cilantro on top. Amazing. I'm hooked. I have literally driven 20 miles out of my way to hit this spot. You won't be disappointed. read more

I've been here multiple times as there are no other alternatives for sushi here, but for what we have it's alright. The size of the fish on some of the sushi is too small and there is way too much rice. I have ordered online before and the fish was sooo small they obviously skimped on it. Food came out fast but the server never checked back. I had to get up to ask for a small plate since they did not give us any as well as more wasabi since they only gave us about 1/2 tsp. They finally came by to give us the bill and I had to ask for a refill. I still topped 20% but if I ordered here again, I'd do take out. First of I had a roll that was supposed to be "salmon seared" which tasted a lot like butane. So I'm pretty sure I ingested chemicals I shouldn't have. I drank the water that was provided but when I asked for more the water tasted really weird and had little pieces of stuff in their water. No wonder this place is rated so badly read more

I am giving two stars to be fair because I did order for pickup. I am not a picky person and I am very fair in my reviews, but the only word I can use to describe my sushi is disgusting. I got a simple roll that had salmon sashimi on top. The salmon was extremely pale, smelled off, and was stringy. This indicates to me that it is not fresh in the slightest; I even suspected it could be thawed from frozen but there is no way to confirm that. I picked up my order 15 minutes after I placed it, and the service was quick, which is the only redeeming factor. New to the Tracy area so we wanted to try all the sushi places. Glad we found this hidden gem - food and service was great. My gf ordered the Chirashi Don, which is assorted fish over rice and I got the Donald Duck roll which was interesting but in a good way, the fried scallops was delicious. I recommend it if you like fried food. To our surprise, the yelp check in was a free CA roll. We were able to redeem that and they also gave us complementary pickled plate which my girlfriend loved. We've been here a total of 4 times now, and each time we left feeling full and satisfied. This is now officially my favorite sushi spot in Tracy and the entire Central Valley. I'd say we are pretty big eaters and three rolls are always enough food for two of us. *Golden Phoenix* - Today's favoite! This roll has no rice. It's crab salad, cream cheese, avocado wrapped in fried seaweed. *Fuji Mountain* ($13.95) - Inside of the roll had spicy crab, cream cheese and fried shrimp. The highlight was the fried strips of calamari piled on top. And surprisingly, eating the calamari with the roll was a good combination and made it taste better. *Sashimi Salad* ($7.95) - The pieces of fish were bigger than I see in other sashimi salad. A variety of raw fish, seafood salad and tobiko were placed on a iceberg lettuce mix. Great appetizer. I will not write another review because I will just be writing about how much I enjoyed the food. If you are ever in Tracy and want some sushi, this is the place to be. read more

~ Covid era review ~ Damn this covid. No date nights, no meetups with friends, no in-person social time with human beings. What more can I do than but to find solace in sushi? Kimono is a solid option in town for consistently good sushi, pretty good service, and good prices. I would rate them a 7.5/10 with all that considered. Pre-covid it was a regular place to meet for lunch. Their lunch specials are particularly good and bento boxes comes with salad and miso soup. Now that we have been the Doordash people having food brought to our domicile, Kimono is still a favorite place to go to have our sushi cravings satisfied, only now it's delivered to out house. Never thought I would be bordering-on-bougie to do that, but with the nation's infection rate at an all-time high, we try to limit exposure as much as possible. Food is brought to our door, still warm, packaged well, as we ordered it, in healthy amounts. Soup and salad still come with your bento meals even when delivered to your home. There is the standard bento of chicken teriyaki, which is my go-to that I get often. Another recommendation is the *salmon* teriyaki, though fish portion might be a little small. The TEMPURA that comes with the bento is cooked well - with that almost-perfect lightly crisp, with the tempura dipping sauce that comes with it. Salad is standard w/ dressing that is slightly tart, not sweet. Sushi rolls that we get often are the California rolls (of course), Philadelphia roll, spicy tuna roll, and the favorite Lion King roll served warm w/ baked salmon is a favorite. It took me a minute, but I finally gave Kimono Sushi a second try. I decided to order carryout for dinner. It was ready when I got there. Definitely a better option than delivery, but my sushi still ended up warmer than I would have liked. I am going to hold out for try number three. I want to eat in. On this outing, I tried the soft shell crab and spicy hamachi appetizers, followed by avocado maki, the Half Moon Bay roll (crab and avocado topped with salmon and thin lemon slices), and the Sin City roll (tempura shrimp and avocado topped with unagi sauce and spicy mayo). All the rolls were delicious. I wanted more lemon on the Half Moon Bay, but thats just me. The Sin City disappeared quickly. Tempura shrimp makes every roll taste better. The appetizers were good, especially the crab. I really wish the hamachi had been sliced even thinner, but the fish was really fresh. I was sad they didn't have oysters when I ordered, because I was looking forward to having the Kumamoto. I wish they gave us a tad more wasabi. I always want more wasabi than they provide (anywhere). So this time I was prepared. I bought my own. I also used my own tamari, having both on hand guarantees I can have my sushi exactly how I like it. Next time I visit, I really want to try the honey walnut prawn roll, the Mango, or the Satsuma Strawberry. I love rolls that are slightly sweet. Good food TERRIBLE service. Called for delivery but they apparently only have a driver sometimes? So the host tells me to order it on door dash. I have a coupon for a free dragon roll and I asked how to use it on there since I can't order directly from them and she keeps saying "idk, I really don't know how you can use it, idk where you got that coupon." I let her know that it came in the mail, she got mad and said "well idk how you can use it" so I say ok I'll use it next time. I also have their menu in front of me so I let her know that their prices are increased by $1-$4 for each item on door dash plus a $2 response fee, $3 delivery fee, $8 service fee and a mandatory tip for $5 So instead of lunch costing me $30 with my coupon it cost me $73 Kimono sushi's response to this was "well we don't have a driver right now and don't know how to use the coupon, the coupons probably expired" If my mom hadn't requested that we get sushi today I would have never gone through with the order. We love trying new sushi restaurants and based on the reviews, we decided to eat here. Wasn't busy, seated right away. Ordered dragon roll, crunch roll, FREE ca roll when checked in, ITT roll and spicy fried calamari. We always ask for a side of unagi sauce to dip our rolls in and the server was generous with the amount. Everywhere we go, we get a small dish and never it's enough especially when we share it. Anyways, there was three sushi chefs and two of them looked really young. But whoever made the rolls we ordered had skills! EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS. We cleared every plate. Well folks, since Covid hit and the family was craving sushi, I decided to give this place another shot. After all, their sushi was good, it was the service that needed improvement. I'm glad I did. While waiting for my order, the gentlemen expediting was very polite and organized. He had about 4 other guest pick ups including door dashers and Uber eats all at once. He still checked every order for accuracy which was very much appreciated considering he found my order was missing a roll and corrected it before allowing me to leave. I appreciated that so much!
