Visiting from the islands my husband and I found this little gem to have breakfast. Location is convenient minutes away from our hotel. The moment we walked in we were greeted by a friendly face. Our breakfast was like homestyle cooking, the atmosphere was very comfortable & pleasant. Our breakfast & service was on point for us! Jazmin, Carissa and Cassidy made each visit a memorable one. My son and I stopped here for a quick bite to eat after I arrived in Long Beach. Ordering a California Benedict ~ an English muffin topped with turkey, tomato, avocado, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce. Served with your choice of potatoes or seasonal fresh fruit. I chose hashbrowns. The first few bites, which were the potatoes, was good. Then I cut into the eggs Benedict and took a couple bites... I quickly realized something wasn't right. Looking down at my plate I could easily tell the egg white wasn't done. Most of it was raw and it completely turned my stomach. I tried to get the attention of our waitress, when I finally did she didn't ask me what I wanted she just took the plate away and hollered into the kitchen to make another one. I did not want another one! My stomach was already turned. When the eggs came back out I just looked at it. Her response was, did you want more potatoes? No. I didn't want a second dish of your eggs Benedict either. She took both plates away and removed it from our bill which was very much appreciated. Would I eat here again? Yes, but I definitely won't be getting the eggs Benedict again. NOTE: A key technique for making a poached egg comes from Heston Blumenthal, the chef and owner a three-Michelin-starred restaurant in England. Straining your raw eggs for about a minute in a fine mesh sieve allows any runny whites to pass through, leaving only the firmer part of the white behind. It makes a perfectly shaped poached egg. My friend and I were so excited having seen this place on social media. The place itself is very cute and clean. Upon arrival we weren't greeted, simply asked, "2," and the waitress then just pointed at our table. A few minutes later we ordered our food - 2 juices and 2 California Benedict's. Food was fairly quick even given how busy they were. Our "large" juices were almost $5 each and were not large at all, I'm not asking for a gallon but at least a little more than given for that price. Honestly, the only fairly good part of the food was the potatoes w pepper & onion. Other than that the Cali Benedict itself was not good at all, that was definitely not hollandaise sauce, seemed like it was just a tub of mayonnaise was plopped on top of the muffin and poached egg. My friend and I subsequently felt ill from the food. When it came to service the waitress would occasionally stop by to check on us, but was not as friendly to us as she was to other customers and it just made me feel uncomfortable. She then came and placed the bill in the middle of our table without a word in the middle of our meal. Overall, the food was pricy for the quality, not too mention they charge .99 cents to pay with your card. We thoroughly enjoy the food at Kimmie's. Today we had the pumpkin pancakes which were scrumptious. The pancakes you see in movies lol. Nice and large, fluffy, with a dollop of whipped cream in the middle and they melt in your mouth. The pumpkin taste is perfect not overpowering. They give nice warm maple syrup with them. We also ordered the scramble with chopped ham, eggs, onion and green onion topped with cheese. It was so good with our pancakes. Between my husband and I we split both plates getting one pancake each and that was enough!! Our scramble came with sourdough toast which helped really fill us up. My hot chocolate was tasty and the whipped cream was a lot and oh so creamy. Now the unfortunate part was my husband and I realize we don't do good with so much oil. Later in the day we didn't feel so good. I'm sure it's just us not the food. I must mention there was more grease on the plate than I would have liked to see, but that is how it is when you have food prepared for you. And the other issue I have with this Kimmies in Brea and the Kimmies in Cypress are the young lady servers. They never seem happy or smile. I almost feel like they are doing us a favor by serving us. Perhaps it's because they are always hoping because they are always so busy. However I served at a busy tea house where we served food and all of our servers had smiles for our customers and made sure we were thankful for their business. Hopefully they will work on their countenance for the customers sake. Parking is relatively easy either in the lot or on the street. The restaurant is decorated very cute and always clean, both Brea and Cypress. The cooks work hard since the restaurant is always busy so kuddos to them!! Absolutely the best pancakes I had the pumpkin pecan and OMG it was delicious. My son had 2 different pancakes and he couldn't stop talking about it. I've gone to Kimmie's for years- since discovering it in college. I typically go to the Fullerton location but since moving, this one is closer. I decided to go today with my bf for breakfast. As soon as we walked in, we were told to sit anywhere. No social distancing was enforced (ie, they did not have ever other booth blocked off). That was strike one. It took the waitress a bit to approach our table. When she did, I noticed her attitude. I brushed it off and thought maybe she was having a bad day, so I was extra nice. I too work in a customer service job and know a nice person can change your entire mood! Still, she wasn't pleasant toward us. However, all other customers got the happy side of her! I noticed she talked in a friendly way to everyone else but myself and my bf. When she came to take our food order she said "so you ready yet?!" As if it was a bother and Inconvenience to her. That's strike two. Towards the end of us finishing our meal, she asked "you good???!" And did not have her mask on. I smiled and said "yes, thank you!" And immediately looked at my bf and said "her mask isn't on!!" I understand we were eating and not wearing one while eating, but every time she walked past us or approached our table, we had it on. And we didn't take off our masks until we got food; plus we put it back on when we finished eating. So strike three. Finally, she came to clear our table and when I asked for the check, she looked at me and said "IT'S RIGHT HERE!" And there was a small receipt by my bf's side of the table. We had a wonderful first experience at this Kimmie's location (Fullerton is always our go-to). The service here was quick, SUPER friendly, warm and genuine and the breakfast was DElish!!! My scrambled eggs were cooked SO perfectly! We brought our little dog girl and ate outside too which was a total bonus (Annie loved the eggs too) The inside of this Brea location is clean, spacious, welcoming, happy and un-chaotic). I was recommended this place by a close friend and decided to go after the gym. It was pretty crowded which seemed like a good sign. It turned out to be okay the food was bland and needed salt or was too salty at times. I ordered a breakfast burrito which was a decent size but had no taste to it. My wife ordered chorizo and eggs and it was overly salted and eventually ended up finding a hair in her food. The overall vibe was "home style" but seemed very generic at best. When we were sat we were forgot about for a good while and when the hair was found there was no apology or even compensation. We paid the whole bill and will not be returning. read more

The homestyle potatoes needed salt, and not just a little; they needed a lot. I felt like I was chomping on an unseasoned, undercooked plant. The potatoes needed to be cooked a little longer. The bacon wasn't bad, but it was hard to chew and started hurting my teeth. I have never experienced that with bacon before. A friend of mine mentioned that the sauce on his egg Benedict tasted like they dumped the whole jar of mayonnaise in it and didn't finish it. I think the thing that did it for me was the way we were treated by the staff. We were greeted when we entered the diner, which is normal. But after that, it's just like we got brushed off, and I don't know what we did. When my friend mentioned it was our first time, the waitress just served our coffee and left without a word. I mean, maybe she didn't hear me, but no, for the whole time, we asked questions and tried to make small talk, but I am sorry she was just not friendly. She served us well, but honestly, as a server, she should at least be friendly. For example, when another female waitress came to our table, she just asked "Are you done yet?" which I thought was rude, and then I made the mistake of asking where the restroom was, which she rudely responded with "Over there". After that, I just wanted to leave; the appeal of the place was gone. When we walked out, we had no "thanks for coming" or "come again". The ambiance was super cute with nice coffee shop decor, but the service was poor and the food wasn't good. The ribeye steak visually had seasoning on it but no flavor. The hash browns weren't cooked fully and were cold and wet and the eggs were gross. The servers aren't warm, inviting or friendly, just quickly delivering the food and filling up coffee mugs when they can. The host was snobby, rolled her eyes and pointed people to where they could sit and seemed like she couldn't be bothered when an older man asked for additional napkins at the counter top where he was sitting. We've eaten breakfast there multiple times each year that we visit to make tamales with the family :-) Our cousins eat here a couple of times a week, and it's easy to see why. Wow. This place has gone down hill; Lowest focus on customer experience I have seen in a while. It started with the abruptness of hostess? My wife waited about 5-7 minutes to sign in. She finally asked the person who appeared to be the hostess about signing in, and her abrupt (almost as if she was being bothered) was, "its over there"... pointing to it. Next, we are called for our table. Mind you, we have four children under 7. That same person who calls out our name, as we are standing there, comments, "table is in the back!" again pointing and assuming we know what she is talking about. Very little politeness from her and as it turns out, the very same person in the first incident, as I discovered later. Next, we order food for our children. One of my daughter must have poked the styrofoam cup too hard as the waitress came up and milk started pouring. Instead of handling herself, she gave me a wet rag and then I had to ask for a dry one to finish cleaning the table. Ok, I can see how having a guy I a suit clean a table can be empowering. Then she made a comment, pointing out that it was my daughters fault. We weren't even discussing it but she wanted to make it clear that it wasn't the restaurant's fault, even though we weren't debating it. Lastly, we ordered a corn dog for my 6 year old. She took two bites and I noticed she was struggling. I asked her why. She said it was hard to bite. Anyone who has even had a corn dog knows that the corn side is not hard so I asked her to give it to me, where upon I noticed two things. 1.) the corn coating was hard as a rock. 2.) the cooks had cut the hot dog, long ways, in half, apparently to make more profit on a kids meal? I pointed it out to the waitress and I felt like once again, it was our fault. No apology. A different person comes to our table and says, "we are out of corn dogs" and then proceeded to tell my daughter what other options they offered. When I received out approx $30, we receive a $1 discount on the corn dog. This experience was surprising to both me and my wife who don't often agree on the total experience, but after both having the veggie egg white special and getting fried potatoes to replace a vegetable that was missing (my guess the broccoli that was supposed to be on there), that was the last straw My recommendation is to not go here. It has gone downhill from our experience l, and clearly other Yelpers agree as they only have 3 stars today and used to have 5 stars. What used to be a very friendly, family oriented stop after church, has turned into an ugly, money hungry, lacking customer care, small fish in a big pond breakfast place where they now take customers for granted. This has been my go-to place for breakfast almost every Saturday. They are always packed on weekends/holidays and there's always a line out the door. While that's always a good sign, don't let that deter you because the lines usually go by pretty fast. OR...and I just figured this out, you can sit at the counter without waiting! (If there are open spots of course, it's first come first serve.) I always get the same thing: Cobb salad, no cheese, dressing on the side. Coffee. Simple. Salad always comes exactly how I like it and the portion is huge. If I'm feeling adventurous, I'll even order their massive fruit plate. It's amazing how enormous that thing is. As busy as they get, they're always on top of it. Constantly refilling my coffee. Service has always been really good. As much I want to like all local small-business type eateries, I can't thumbs-up 'em all. And unfortunately, Kimmie's falls into that dreaded thumbs-down list. Our server was alright. She didn't appear ecstatic nor did she appear to be hating life either. Service was decent--refilled our water a couple times, and other times to check on us. I ordered the french toast combo with eggs and bacon and ordered a side of hash browns. Every single item on my plate was mediocre at best for a fee of about $9 and change. I normally finish all of my food, but I ended up having to give away half of my food. Coworker1 got the corned beef has with redskin potatoes and biscuits with gravy. He didn't like their corned beef hash, and the biscuits were a bit chalky to the bite. gravy was decent. Coworker2 had the chickenfried steak, eggs and hash with toast which he finished. This place was mediocre at best. I got the chirizo/egg plate with potatoes. The potatoes were literally boiled with zero seasoning. I asked the waitress if they're supposed to come like that and she flat out told me they were not boiled but cooked in the pan and seasoned. I do not hit snooze, get dressed, grab my book, and drive to the small diner on the corner. You'd miss it if you didn't look. Open the door to welcome encased in a wave of maple syrup thrilling my nose, my tummy responds with a song, gurgling loudly. I find my seat among coffee sipping men. Pull out my current read, leaving my phone abandoned in my purse. The room is white noise of hushed voices, occasional high-pitched laughter makes me smile. A glass of ice tea, no lemon, appears without being asked. I am delightfully ignored until I need a refill. I become preoccupied devouring every word when the waitress asks if I want my usual. An omelet, filled full of cheddar cheese thickly tucked inside with mouth - watering ham, savory spinach, and tomato's hotter than the sun. Golden hash browns snuggle this colorful display on a dish I can barely see. Two buttery slices of wheat toast balance on a tiny pink scalloped plate. The heat creates almost invisible swirls of steam escaping gooey goodness melted on fluffy eggs tempting me to scorch a tongue almost too eager. I halt myself and dive back into a story I cannot put down. I am in no rush. Each lushes bite melts in my mouth, the oozing golden glory creating long lines from plate to fork to mouth, breaking off onto my chin and I feel like laughing as I wipe it away. I use my fingers, when no one is looking, picking up a piece of ham, covered with chewy delight, I try to keep the string from fracturing until I can wrap it around my finger. Biting my bottom lip each time as I twist open a bottle of Cholula to give hash browns -- a kick. I am torn between were my full attention should be. Do I close the book? Focus on the meal?
