Authentic Korean food at a great price point! Ambiance is inviting - great music and they also have a Korean drama playing on the TV. Veggie dumplings come with a flavorful dipping sauce, not just plain old soy sauce. Tofu on the mixed rice bowl was super crispy and tasty. Lastly, I tried the chilled noodles with beef. Perfect dish for the summer. I'll be back to get these for sure. read more

Kimchi Pop is a cute little Korean shop in West Town. The menu is simple and straightforward with a handful of quintessential Korean eats. I stopped in last Friday night and scanned the menu briefly before choosing the Bi Bim Bop with beef. The dish was served in a stone bowl and came with a side of what I think was gochujang, but don't quote me because I'm not Korean so what do I know. The dish was packed with veggies and small portion of beef, which I thought was unseasoned. The "spicy sauce" enhanced the flavors but without it, it would have been very bland. My friend got the chilled noodles which he slurped down pretty quickly, so I'm assuming it was good. I was disappointed that we didn't get any free kimchi or other banchan. Flavors aside, the service and ambiance were great. The Bi Bim Bop wasn't the best choice, but I'd love to give this place another try. read more

All the food had a very strong fish smell and taste. I got one seafood dish so expected that in the one dish but not all. I had ordered a take away and just didn't feel full or satisfied with it. I've certainly had better so very disappointed with this joint. Have two stars as delivery was on time and nothing leaked. But wouldn't order again unfortunately. read more

A quick stop for Korean comfort food but there is a limited selection and nothing really stood out to me. Had the Duk Bo Ki (rice and fish cakes in a spicy sauce), bibimbop (not quite enough beef) and steamed meat dumplings. read more

tumbled on this place. One of those karmic things, like finding a 20 in your pocket. Food - limited menu but well made. It's not 'avant-garde' or anything. Totally unpretentious byob appt with a limited menu. Mom is the the back cooking! Can't go wrong with mom. Only peeve I had was I wish they gave me more cchicken. I had the bi him bop or something. Prices are very reasonable and staff is friendly and fast. Would I return ? Yes! Easily! read more

Nice food, I liked mostly jam pong and seafood soondubu, very nice personnel, and fun place to meet with family and friends

BYOB fast casual Korean joint. Everything was great. The scallion pancakes = fantastic. The spicy seafood and pork ramen (esque) I had was bomb. The balance of heat and kick was perfection. You get hit with the heat, sweat a little but it doesn't burn your mouth for hours (or even minutes). My friends also enjoyed whatever they had (no idea what it was; I was focused on my own meal). Dumplings were the closest thing to mediocre and those still were good. read more

A neighborhood weekly staple! We love the mandu dumpling soup, soon dubu jigae (tofu stew), seafood pancake, ribeye bulgogi, doeji bulgogi, and ddubokki. Basically the entire menu. My favorite carb treat to myself is the cafe ramen noodles - they are simple but delicious! Kimchi Pop also has a rewards program so remember to bring your card to collect stamps for a free meal. read more

Yummy food with a cozy atmosphere. Order at the counter and seat yourself if dining in, not a huge place so if busy might be hard to get a table. We ordered the bibimbap and army stew and both were tasty. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 (would do 4.5 if that was an option) was because we tried doing the online pick-up and the system was down and they weren't answering the phone to place a carry out order. But we were glad we came in! read more

Some of the best, and freshest, Korean food in town. Absolutely must go here if you like Korean food!

Place rocks. Authentic Korean food reasonably priced. Staff is friendly and efficient. A real neighborhood gem.

The food was amazing, best soondubu i've had in Chicago. Also really nice vibes and banchan is buffet style which is nice since you can eat more of what you like. read more

Ordered takeout here when in Chicago recently for a wedding. We found this place through -- you guessed it -- Yelp! The reviews raves about a "hidden gem" and boy, were they right. I ordered the Bi Bim Bop bowl and the Kimbap. The veggies were fresh and perfectly cooked and everything was well seasoned -- just enough spice. I rarely rave about tofu, but kid you not, the tofu here was something to write home about. The entree and appetizer were more than enough food (my wife and I honestly probably could've and should've split it) and all for pretty cheap, too. Definitely agree with other Yelpers -- this place is a great find. Will definitely come back next time I'm in the Windy City. read more

Gave them a try this weekend with a couple of the bi bim bop bowls. They were pretty good, but not as good as En Hakkore. Not quite as flavorful. When picking up the order it smelled amazing there. There are several other menu items that looked interesting and I'm planning to give those a try next time. Staff was friendly and food was good. read more

Delicious and reasonably priced Korean food. I have tried the beef bibimbap twice and the dumplings which are delicious. They have a few items of self-serve banchan near the front to go with your meal. This place is small but cozy with a few picnic tables. It is BYOB and they even have a few board games laying around. They play great korean music! We met the owner/chef who was a delightful man and made sure that we were enjoying our food, even though we were jerks and came in right before closing time. I live nearby and I know this will be a winter staple for me. Can't wait to try more of their food. read more

By far the BEST restaurant I have eaten at! The dumpling soup and chicken fried rice was extraordinary! This family owned place is a very cozy and the customer service is on point! Kim, who works the front of the house, is a true GEM and she is very friendly and accommodating. She was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. My family and I stopped in here this past weekend and we had a wonderful dinner! We can't wait to come back! read more

This place is an absolute gem. My friends and I came here for dinner last week, we ordered the scallion pancakes, the musubi, the yellow curry, the seafood ramen, and the chicken fried rice and everything was stellar. The chicken fried rice was probably the best chicken fried rice I've ever tasted, the ramen and curry were so flavorful, and the musubi and pancakes we crispy and delicious. Everything felt and tasted like it was truly homemade, you can quite honestly feel the love in the food. It's like getting a meal cooked by your mom or grandma. The staff is also super friendly and personable, my friends and I enjoyed chatting a bit with them. The space itself is very casual, it's BYOB, and they have a few games you can play as well. I can't recommend this place enough. And I know that I'll be back several times as I feel like I need to try everything on their menu. read more

I'm giving 3 stars due to customer service. Long story short, it was 4 of us and we were celebrating one of my friend's birthday, so we wanted a nice, casual dinner. The lady who took our order gave us a condescending vibe and made us feel uncomfortable. Apparently, the topic of our discussion may have triggered a nerve because she chimed into our conversation, when she should have been minding her own business. So of course that definitely set the mood for the rest of the time in the restaurant. Closing time, we understand it's the end of the night and everyone is tired and want to go home. We were considerate enough to let her know we were wrapping it up and she comment "Yeah, I'm ready to go too" in an annoying way. If you work in Customer Service, I'd say get your feelings out your ass because not everyone has the same mindset as you. read more

We were only in Chicago for three days, but we ended up going to Kimchi Pop twice -- that's how good the food was. It has many vegan options (basically half of the menu) and the staff was very knowledgeable about what was and wasn't vegan. Many of the self-served banchan are also vegan, just ask at the counter! We got the soondubu, dumpling soup, and bibimbap, all of which were delicious and very comforting, full of fresh vegetables and perfect seasonings. The second time we came in, Chef Son was there, and came out to say hello and even offered us a complimentary korean mochi dessert that was absolutely delicious. It's very obvious that Chef Son puts so much effort and passion into the dishes he creates, and i would absolutely recommend Kimchi Pop to anyone in the Chicago area, especially those looking for delicious vegan fare. read more

So we ordered two dumpling soups tonight- one with chicken and one gluten-free with tofu. The chicken soup was missing entirely- instead it was what I assume to be their curry stew, which I can't eat because it contains dairy (per a previous call to the restaurant). The gluten-free soup had dumplings, which per their menu aren't gluten-free. When we called (repeatedly, from different numbers) to try and get this resolved/addressed, the employee on the other line answered and immediately hung up every time. Absolutely unprofessional- clearly they knew they screwed up, and were too coward to own up to it. Never ordering from this place again, they employ trash people. read more

If you're like me, a hot bowl of soondubu and bulgogi with rice is the ultimate comfort food, and Kimchi Pop has those Korean staple dishes in a quick casual setting. I liked the small restaurant feel, friendly service and convenient location, and the food was good, but I thought both dishes skewed more on the sweet and oniony side. Medium spicy was pretty mild, and that was fine with me. This could be a personal performance, and I just prefer less sweetness in my Korean food. read more

This place is the real deal. I was born in Korea and my mother is a chef who worked in Korea for most of her life, so I know good kimchi when I taste it. Chicago has a dearth of good kimchi. I've been seriously disappointed by lackluster kimchi in all of the top rated places in town, but this place gives me hope. It has the perfect balance of flavors while being fermented just the right amount. The menu is small, but curated. Can go wrong here. Must visit if you love kimchi. read more

Hole in the wall Korean comfort food that is surprisingly what wicker park lacked until now. Sure you have your Asian fusion options, but I cant think of another restaurant in close proximity that offers a kimchi pancake or kimchi jjigae. Also being from Hawaii, I was amused to see fried saimin (essentially pan fried ramen noodles with kamaboko and veggies) and a spam musubi as items showcased on their simple menu. Definitely a place I will keep in mind when I want some comfort food, and hey byob is always a plus. One last thing, there's an incredible paper lantern painted with a neon mountain in the back. read more

Ordered Mandu soup and paid for extra rice cakes. Soup arrived literally with 3 rice cakes. Not even a standard amount of rice cakes, much less "extra". Placed an order tonight (2 of the Ribeye dish and some chicken dumplings) via their website at around 6:45pm. The site says it will be ready at 7:25. I show up a couple minutes early and the order isn't ready. No big deal. My fault for being a little early. There are customers in there screaming at each other at their table . I'm not sure if they're drunk or what but there's about 8 of them sitting at one of the three tables in there and they're all screaming. It's not a big place. There's no loud music. But these guys are all yelling for some reason. I stood in there for 15-20 minutes waiting for them turn my order over. It felt like a week. A third employee shows up and and asked me what I was waiting for. I told him I had a 7:25 pick up order. He just kind of nods at me and walks away. I watch several other customers and delivery people show up and grab orders. On the verge of a panic attack due to the screaming. I asked the man at the counter what we were waiting on. He tells me the dumplings. Does it take more than 20 minutes to make dumplings? I ask him to refund the dumplings because I have to get out of there. Get my two orders of the ribeye and run out of there. Then the coup de grace. Get home with our two identical ribeye orders and one has about 40% of the food as the other one. These are $17 take out dishes and one of the orders had about 5 bites of food in it. The food is cold obviously (it had probably been sitting out for at least 35 minutes at that point) I don't write Yelp reviews all that often but Kimchi Pop was just a really bad experience all around. I wouldn't usually blame a place for some unruly customers but pile on the late order, apathetic staff and the shorted order and you've got a real nightmare. Note that they've got a lot of good reviews (that's why we tried it). Maybe they were having a bad night? Regardless, I'm not going back. read more

Really good stuff. I am white as rice but had a Korean roommate through college. I recognized many of the offerings here from things his parents would bring and make for him. Everything I had was excellent and true to the flavors I remembered. Where I had a problem was the price and quality of proteins as others have mentioned. If they just up their game a little: better chicken, a few bucks cheaper, maybe include a side of kimchi...this place is 5 stars all day long. read more

Came here for dinner we ordered kimchi jigae (stew), musubi, and the bi bim gook su (cold summer noodle). Kimchi stew-was good! Wasn't salty or watered down. I'm Korean so I've had plenty of kimchi jigaes in my life. The stew had beef, tofu, mandoo (dumplings), kimchi, and dduk (rice cake). The cold summer noodles was good. Wasn't spicy for us, but might me for others. Had a good amount of sesame oil in it and pieces of beef and kimchi. You can choose either chicken, tofu, or beef for your topping. They definitely are generous with topping portion. Noodle portion was kind of small but no big deal. Musubi-had pieces of green onion in the rice along with egg and spam. Can't go wrong with spam! Service was great. The waiter/cashier was super nice and asked us if everything was okay/if we needed anything. I would just suggest putting a sign on the orange thing below the ! sign for people to see better. It kind of looks closed since there's no real sign. Love local places! Definitely should try! Other Korean places in the area are too watered down or don't taste as authentic in my opinion! read more

Their food is so yummy here! Very authentic and the flavors are on point. We ordered a kimchi pancake but got served the seafood one instead.
