This was my first time here as well as my brothers first time. He ordered the spicy chicken wings which I also tried and oh boy that was a whole new level of spicy but it hand a hint of sweetness to the sauce. Stopped in for takeout tonight - ordered ddeok bokki (spicy rice cakes) and kimchi pancakes. SO GOOD! The spicy rice cakes are so chewy and the spice level is perfect, quite hot but you can still taste the flavor nuance. The kimchi pancakes were also great and pair perfectly with the ddeok bokki, you can sop up every last delicious bit of the spicy red sauce with the pancakes. One pancake and about half of the spicy rice cakes (both from the appetizer menu) makes for a hearty dinner and you'll have 2 pancakes and plenty of ddeok bokki for lunch tomorrow and you will have spent about $20. Korean food is definitely pricier than Chinese and the portions tend to be smaller - however, the FLAVOR is incomparable. read more

This place is one of my all-time favorites, I have been coming here whenever I got a chance to be on this side of the town. Their Yukgaejang(Spicy Beef Soup) and Tteok-bokki(Spicy Rice Cake+Fish Cakes) are my go-to dishes every time when I visit here. I love the fact they serve you straight up the extra spicy dish if you ask for it. Although I'm a little taken back by the fact their pricing seems a little on the higher end. Great food, the flavor is always on point and haven't had a bad dish so far! Some stews are definitely overpriced (especially kimchi stew, soft tofu stew, and soy bean paste stew). I go to this place for food that typically are difficult to make at home or things I don't always have ingredients handy (e.g., blood sausages, pork feet, etc.). I am so happy to find a Korean joint in Canton so I no longer have to drive to AA. It was nice to see other Koreans, so you know the joint is legit food wise. The food was true to tradition, the bulgogi was moist & tender, the tteokbokki was spicy, and the soondae was great (I loved that they served it with salt as well soy bean paste). Their service is slow & I felt as if I was expected to speak Korean (as an adoptee who grew up in the states...yo hablo español) That rubbed me the wrong way. All in all though, I would return to give them another chance because it's much more convenient than driving to AA. read more

It's pretty good korean food. Not the best in the metro area, but solidly tasty with a expansive menu. Your usual go to options all taste great (bulgogi, bibimbap, stews, fried rice). Extra points for the the fact that they have my two favorites garanjim (steamed egg appetizer) and bulgogi jigae (bulgogi stew). Always excellent service, restaurant is always clean, and they did an excellent job on renovating the space. Best part, I no longer need to travel outside of canton for good Korean food. I know this is hard to believe, but (up until now) favorite Korean restaurant in the Farmington area has been dethroned, at least for the seafood Soon du bu anyway. While it doesn't come with the little fried fish that the other place offers, the broth is a lot more seafood-y and not as salty. The menu items are totally legit and the service was great. It makes me happy to know this is now 5 minutes from my house and I won't have to go all the way to Ann Arbor for Korean food. I'm super pumped to go back with my husband and son. read more

Oh Kimchi I want so much to give you 5 stars but I'm thinking you only deserve 3.5. I will compromise and give you 4. We ate here about a month ago and enjoyed the food. Our male waiter was everything you want a waiter to be: conscientious, attentive, informative. The woman (owner?) looked crabby and was not friendly. On a subsequent visit to get take-out the woman was again crabby. Someone needs to talk to her about attitude and customer service. On that first visit we ordered the calamari appetizer ($7.99) at the recommendation of our waiter. It arrived at our table piping hot and was delicious. Crispy but not greasy. The banchan (little dishes with a taste of a variety of salads and kimchi) was great and we enjoyed every dish. The kimchi is spicy but fresh. For our entrees we ordered the Korean BBQ Galbi (beef short rib $21.99) and the Stir-fried Spicy chicken and shrimp ($15.99). the Galbi was very chewy without a lot of flavor. I'm thinking it needed to be marinated longer. The portion was on the smaller size. The stir fried spicy chicken and shrimp was fantastic but very, very hot. The chicken was very tender and the shrimp were small but cooked perfectly. With drinks and a tip, dinner was $75. Definitely pricey but we enjoyed it. Last Saturday I ordered take-out: Seafood pancake ($9.99), Stir-fried chicken and shrimp ($15.99) and Spicy Pork BBQ ($19.99). The seafood pancake was very good and I imagine if eaten fresh in the restaurant it would be 5 stars. The Spicy pork bbq was very good and the chicken and shrimp great. When I got home I was disappointed to find that they had not included any banchan. Also, the take-out containers had spilled sauce. I'm grateful that it was in a plastic bag so it didn't get all over my car. $50 for 2 dishes and an appetizer seems like a lot to me. We have a lot of choices in Canton for great ethnic foods. My fiance and I stumbled upon this place yesterday. We had known it to be Thai Bistro previously, and were surprised when we saw the old sign covered up with a banner with the word "Kimchi" on it and thought it might be an attempt at the Thai restaurant crossing over into another type of cuisine. When we walked in though, the interior had been cleaned up from the vinyl-upholstery look to a more refined, traditional Korean-lettering wallpaper, and we were greeted by a Korean family and there was a clear indication of a change of ownership. Service was great all around and they were very kind. We had the Galbi-tang and Jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles). Both were decent quality, though I'd say the noodles were better than the Galbi-tang. I can't really think of any good Korean restaurants in Canton, and so as it is, I think it's as good as you're going to get. Having come from Ann Arbor, I'd say it's comparable in quality to other restaurants in AA, so all-in-all we left as happy customers. read more

My wife loves Korean food so we were really excited to try out this new place in Canton. We have a couple go to Korean restaurants they we really enjoy in Ann Arbor and were glad something opened up near us. First let me say the overall ambiance and dining in experience not what we were expecting particularly when factoring in the cost of the food. I would say the cost is definitely on the high side. My wife had the bibimbap with tofu and I had the hibachi shrimp. The portions are quite small and just the overall presentation and taste of the food was not enjoyable. My wife really wanted to have her dish with grilled shrimp but they only have a seafood bibimbap with the shells on which she didn't want. Overall we will not be going back to Kimchi and will stick to our favorites in Ann Arbor. read more

Been wanting to try Kimchi for a while and finally got over there last week, so glad I did it was excellent, service was great restaurant is very clean and my server I believe the owners son was great at explaining menu options, the meal came with little bowls of marinated radish,zucchini, black bean , kimchi,cod and one other thing but I can't remember what it was but all of them were great, I had the beef bulgogi soup as my entree, incredible flavor it comes with a small cup of rice that I added to the soup the the soup, can't wait to go back and try something else this is one of those places when you walk in you know it is going to be good cause it smells delicious, would like to go with a group to have a hot pot meal and try a couple different things. I'm no expert in Korean food but when I'm in Japan I really like Yakiniku restaurants so I'm always on the lookout for something similar state-side. Since Yakiniku is a Japanese take on Korean BBQ, I've always got my eyes open for Korean BBQ places. Generally, I prefer the "cook at your table" style for Korean BBQ. But I have to say, this place may have changed my mind. Like I said, I'm no expert on Korean food. But I know what I like and I really like this. I came here with my dad for lunch because we are the most adventurous eaters. I had the beef bulgogi and he has some spicy pork (both from the Korean BBQ section of the menu). Both were fantastic! I also really liked the sides they served at the start of the meal. I have no issue with spicy food. So the fact that some was spicy and some wasn't didn't bother me. But if you can't handle spicy food you'll need to pay careful attention. Definitely coming back here. read more

Food ranged from reasonably priced to higher cost dishes. Limited beer selection. Had 2 different soups and tempura appetizer. My wife's soup had a strong seafood flavor. The shrimp did not have heads on it. I had the spicy beef soup with potato noodles. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Like most of these reviews, the downside to Kimchi is service. Eric was very friendly ... when he made it to the table. LOOOONG time to get menus, get served, get our bill; never got refills or asked if we needed anything else. The food was very good. The appetizer (Japchae) and complimentary side dishes were excellent ... a variety of flavorful, spicy, traditional Korean dishes. My wife and I shared an order of Korean BBQ (Bulgogi) and found it tender, flavorful, and filling. If you have the time, and are in no hurry what so ever, Kimchi is worth visiting. read more

We were just roaming around the area trying to find a place to satisfy our craving for Korean food and we stumbled upon this gem. We ordered Ddeokbokki and tofu for appetizers; Soondubu and kalbi tang soup for the rainy weather; and Jok bal out of curiosity. Everything was delicious! The ambiance is casual and it provides a comfortable at-home sort of feel. The staff are friendly and helpful. And I have absolutely no complaints about the service. I was so excited when this restaurant opened near our house! I've eaten Korean food all over the US. Unfortunately it isn't that great. The banchan is meh, the dishes seems to be lacking flavor and we have even gotten the incorrect dishes in our takeout orders. The BIBimBab is dominated by hard strips of vegetables. Go to HANA in Ypsi or BIBimBab in Novi if you want to eat decent Korean food. read more
