It was so easy to get to through the interconnected parking lots. It is in the strip behind IHOP and near Raising Cane's ( but much better food). Plenty of parking. They don't have fountain pop which always gets a star off but has Coke products and was quick with a glass of ice. Service was by the owner so he was friendly and interesting in giving good service. The roll came out freshly made. It was delicious but different than most since it didn't have cucumber or avocado in it. But that let the shrimp and toppings shine. Beautiful presentation. I will be back next time I shop at BJ'S. I would be other times but I don't live near.

The Beef Bulgogi bowl looked tasty, so I went inside, took a seat and gave the waitress my order. My order was served up QUICK and HOT. But, I was disappointed when I saw the rather SMALL size of the bowl placed in front of me. I asked the waitress if this was the lunch size. She said no, it is the same for both lunch and dinner. So I dug in to the beef first. It lacked seasoning, flavor and texture. BLAND! Then I looked the spring roll and the dumpling. These were not handmade and seemed to be similar to what I have purchased at COSTCO. Just CABBAGE inside both of them. Ambiance is kind of Americana kitsch, a real mishmash for a cafe trying to serve Asian fusion cuisine. Then the bill arrived and I was taken aback at $13.50 for such a small bowl. My dining experience definitely DID NOT equal the glowing reviews from my fellow Yelpsters. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER!

I came on my own, ordered $25 worth of sushi, and was reading a book. When I came in they were not crowded and there were plenty of open tables (early dinner time), but by the time I left it picked up. I ordered a single piece of uni appetizer, which was $10, and figured it would be a really high quality large piece. I was pretty disappointed at 3 small uni pieces laid across rice. I was hoping for one huge piece of uni for that price. But, the quality was very good! I also had a salmon and avocado roll and spicy tuna, and both of those were very good. The standout was the spicy tuna, made with chili oil I'm sure. Spicy but not unbearable spicy. I think they had real wasabi and actually my favorite thing I ate today was their pickled ginger! The ginger pieces are crisp with a fresh crunch that I haven't gotten from typical, limp sushi ginger. I asked for low sodium soy sauce when my sushi came out and waited at least 5 minutes before giving up and using the regular soy sauce... A couple minutes later the waitress finally brought the low sodium version, said nothing about it being lost or any other possible explanation for taking so long, said something like "Oh" when she saw I had used the regular one already. But, I also think she didn't speak English. When I was more than halfway done eating but obviously still eating, she brought over the bill. As I was still eating, she came by, picked it up, and opened it to check if my card was in it, I kid you not, 3 separate times, over the course of maybe 10 minutes. I had to ask for more water when it was already empty. One time she got more water, the other time she literally walked away as I was talking to her...but again, I don't think she was purposely ignoring me as much as she seemed afraid of me? She probably thought I was laughing at her but really I just laugh awkwardly as a defense mechanism in awkward situations...oh well! Would I recommend this place for the delicious food? Sure! Would I go out of my way to come here again after whatever that service experience was? Personally, no, because I didn't feel like anyone was even trying to provide good service. If my waitress was confused I wish she would have sent someone else over to translate or for help. But maybe it's better if you speak Japanese/ignore any awkward service faux pas...the fact that it was full of Japanese people speaking Japanese is a great sign!

After a long workday, I was in the mood for sushi. And I wanted to try a new restaurant instead of…read morerelying on my tried-and-true places. After a quick search, I was on my way to Kabuki. It is located on Ford Rd, with IKEA, Carvel, and Buffalo Wild Wings serving as landmarks. The restaurant is dark, which always makes me a bit uneasy. Some chefs/owners may claim that it sets a mood, but I feel that it hides dirt and makes it challenging to discern ingredients. I quickly reviewed the menu and then carefully read all the ingredients to ensure that nothing I ordered contained salmon (an unfortunate allergy) and cream cheese. The latter because, after many, many attempts, I just don't like that ingredient in sushi rolls. I ordered the Tiger and Sunflower rolls. The Tiger roll starts with shrimp tempura wrapped with cucumber strips, crab stick, and eel, topped with more shrimp, avocado, and eel sauce. I also ordered the Sunflower roll and requested that the salmon be removed. It contained a mosaic of fish: white fish, tuna, yellowtail, escolar, (cooked) shrimp, crab stick, as well as avocado, and tamago. So very pretty. The Sunflower roll was, sadly, very bland. I don't think it was because of the missing salmon. I did like the Tiger roll, though. The mackerel sashimi and tamago also hit the spot, as they always do. Service was lovely. The servers were friendly and responsive. They quickly got take-out orders for the steady stream of customers.

Ramen fit the bill, a meal that would be both comforting and delicious. I've been curious about this restaurant from the many times I've dined in the area. A glance at the online menu, and I realized that I would be happy here. In addition to ramen, they offer interesting appetizers, sushi rolls, and bowls. The restaurant itself is large, with booths running along the window and smaller tables on both sides of my half-wall. The large space is separated by red lacquered scroll dividers and decorated with traditional red lanterns and non-traditional long pendants. I love the bold artwork and the gold accents throughout the space. I always get the Tonkotsu Ramen when trying out a new ramen place. It is how I benchmark the restaurant. The broth was rich and intense; the ramen was topped with pork belly, jammy eggs, julienned wood ear mushrooms (a favorite), corn, and fermented/ pickled (?) bamboo shoots. The noodles were straight and thin, unlike the typical "wavy" ones I am used to. There was also a fishy taste that I first attributed to shrimp, but later, when I watched a video on the restaurant's website, I realized it came from the fish in the shoyu sauce. Overall, it was a deliciously complex dish that I couldn't easily replicate at home. Service was friendly, helpful, and professional.

I'd say the vibes are a bit too over the top and deliberate, which makes me feel that this establishment is not really authentic. The food is not the best. Their non-ramen items are not better either. Service is good. The waitress was attentive and had a good attitude. Feels like this establishment put all their effort in the "peripheral" things but didn't score the best on the most important one which is the taste itself.
