A "local favorite", for some unknown reason. 1) Tried to talk me out of ordering what i ordered, General Tsao's Tofu. "You sure you don't want chicken instead? Because for tofu we have to heat the oil in the fryer..." Like .... "Huh? What? Yeah, I'm sure." Honestly never had this experience before. I would think heating up the fryer is all in a day's work; and it was about 6 PM. No way was I the first person that day to order a fried dish. You don't wanna heat the fryer?! Nobody's forcing you to run this horrible restaurant! 2) General Tsao's has a lot of sauce. They packaged it in the cheap Styrofoam type of container. Of course I took precautions to have it not spill on the drive home. Of course it leaked all over, anyway. And I know they at least have the soup containers. They could have packaged the sauce separately. But no, too stingy. Literally did not want to spend an extra 25 cents to give a better customer experience. 3) The dish wasn't even what I ordered! It was Sweet and Sour, not General Tsao's. 4) It wasn't even good! 5) Before I served it, I rinsed off the container and everything else in the bag, so I didn't get sauce all over my self, my kitchen, my whole house honestly. Later when I went to eat the fortune cookies, one was soggy. So, there had been a hole in the wrapper before I even tried to open it. Great. I wonder what else is going on in their kitchen. Of course everything that enters the restaurant is brought in through the dirty alley... 6) ***NEXT DAY: DIARRHEA.*** ..........Thanks! 7) Much of this might have been avoided if they weren't still milking the whole "no dine-in", since COVID. I'm not about to turn around and go complain after I already drove home with the food. That's why they don't want you in the dining room. If nothing else, all the money they're saving, could go to buy the better containers. (I mean... they have a lot fewer dishes to wash, right? Assuming they even did that.) 8) What about explaining the problems with my meal over the phone, though? Well, first of all, I was hungry; I wanted to eat, not call Customer Service. But also, here's a scene from the "director's cut" version of the review... ;) While waiting for my food, I got to listen to the hostess talking on speakerphone to someone who was trying to order carry-out. She was trying to explain that if they came in to order, they would get more chicken, and fewer veggies. Seriously for 10 mins she's trying to explain it. Well, not really *explain*; more like she was just saying it over and over. Honestly it sounded like somehow the chicken would magically turn into vegetables, if they placed their order over the phone, but that wouldn't happen if they came in to order the carry-out in person. (Don't ask. I don't get it either!!) Finally the caller just gave up, and said she'd come in. (WHY?!) When the hostess got off the phone, she explained to the people in the lobby "she no understand". By the looks exchanged among us customers, I'm pretty sure none of us understood, either. So, trying to explain my situation, over the phone, and having to deal w/ a comprehension and communication gap like that? *Don't forget they didn't even want to cook my food in the first place!* No, I think it would be healthier for me to just chug a whole bottle of MSG. read more

First time coming and our food was cold, rice was hard and undercooked. The sweet & Sour Chicken had a very vinegar taste and the breading was either melting off or hard as a rock. The General Tao was supposed to be very hot and had no spice to it what so ever and minimal flavor. There was a very fish type substance and taste in Hot Sour soup. We ordered food tonight towards the end of the night, and while eating my boyfriend pulled out two meal worm looking bugs. I'm absolutely disgusted. The woman at the restaurant told us to bring it back so we did, she tried to claim because the worms weren't coated in sauce that it wasn't from their establishment. Overall the food was pretty good from here. The ambiance at this place is super lax. I mean literally the cover on a lamp is broken. They use two booths in between two sections for storing stuff and it looks like work. Super weird I might add. My biggest complaint is that I ordered a dinner combo and they put my, supposed to be crispy egg roll, on top of my fried rice; therefore, it was quite soggy when I finally got to eat it. Outside of that the food good. I will say the portion size of shrimp they gave me was IMPRESSIVE! My 3 star rating is based solely on interior setup and food preparation. read more

I don't understand why this place gets such a bad rep on here. They are always very busy the staff are always very friendly and I have NEVER had a bad meal here. I'm fact they have THE BEST Sweet and Sour Chicken in Metro Detroit PERIOD. Also the Almond Boneless Chicken is fantastic as well the gravy could be a bit better but the actual chicken is wonderful. I give 4 stars instead of 5 because the egg rolls and soup could be a bit better. The rice is solid not the best of the best but very solid. I will never eat at this Restaurant again! I ordered 2 almond boneless chicken dinner and a sesame chicken dinner to go. I got home and and as my husband and daughter start eating their food they said how tough the chicken was and how they must of changed cooks because the gravy was different. So as I'm eating my food I take a bite of what I thought was breading from the chicken and it was a bandaid!!! I right away took pictures and called up there and told them she said I wasnt there and I must have ordered from different restaurant! The soups are delicious! Their egg rolls have both chicken and shrimp sooooo good! They have the spicy mustard that is great. Their egg foo young and pepper steak are phenomenal! The sun gum is a bit bland but still very fresh! I'm happy! Found this new to us decent Chinese place that isn't too far from the house when we don't feel like making the trip to midtown! Well, I'm never ordering from here again. I used my work phone to call in the order, and when I went to pick up my order, the lady was giving me a big hassle because I didn't give her the phone number that I used to place the order with. I never memorized my work cell phone number. I told her this, and she was still giving me a hassle, like I was trying to steal someone else's order. So I finally get my order and I start looking around like I'm on candid camera or perhaps Aston Kusher is hiding behind a corner ready to tell me I've been punked or something. I've been coming here for the 22 years of my life, and my mother has been coming here about 28 years. For most of that time we had the same waitress, under the same owner, but in the past 5 years or so, they switched owners. The food was absolutely delicious before, and still is now even though some things are different, they kept the same menu and recipes for the most part give or take a few things. The speed of the food coming to the table is usually pretty good, and the people are pretty nice. I've gotten friends to try this place and they've said its the best they've had. read more

Finally found a good Cantonese/Szechuan/Thai restaurant since moving to the East Side of the city. My drunken noodles were delicious. Fresh veggies, flavorful sauce, shrimp were a nice size. The interior was clean, free of dust and visibly broken/worn-in dining decor. A woman, whom I believe to be the owner, was exceptionally nice. I've NEVER been dissapointed when ordering from this restaurant. My children and I enjoy going in every once in a while to dine in. Yes, the "ambiance" or decor could use a face lift. However we do not go for the ambiance, we go for the food! Honestly this is authentic asian cuisine! We've tried their egg drop and hot and spicy soups, egg rolls, crab rangoon, almond cookies, ABC, sweet and sour, and general tso's chicken, along with chop suey. Everything was above par with flavor. Their chicken is always fresh, very moist with a piece or two that was dry and over cooked. Overall the food is good. They do tend to get busy on Friday and Saturday evenings, and can sometimes get overwhelmed. But patience is always a virtue! read more

Just okay could be better I ordered the Chicken fried rice and the FR3 KAW PAD PRIK Fried Rice with Garlic, Onion, Chili Peppers, Pea pods, Broccoli and Eggs with chicken. The chicken fried rice had some diced up pieces of fake chicken yes I said it fake chicken seems more like a diced up lunch meat very processed and spongy piece of fake chicken so I picked the fake chicken out of the rice because the rice was good enough to eat some egg onions and some bean sprouts. Now the Thai dish Kaw Pad Prik was good could have been a lot better if it had lived up to the ingredients from the menu Fried rice with garlic,onion chili peppers, pea pods, broccoli and eggs with chicken yes chicken and yes It was real nice cut strips of chicken. The dish did not have one taste of garlic in it which is the reason I ordered it because I like garlic flavor in some dishes, about a teaspoon amount of egg, very little onions, without those items added really made the dish just okay. lacking the flavor its what is where they dropped the ball I notice this restaurant and others are starting to use cheap ingredients, less ingredients making restaurants to become the thing of the past where some super markets and food trunks are about to put these brick and mortar places a thing of the past and I stand on it read more

This is my favorite dine in and carry out location in the area. Hard working staff that have never failed to provide efficient friendly service. I always stick to my Sweet and Sour Chicken combo, but i have tried various things on the menu and feel the need to leave this review. This place rocks, the soups are amazing, and the rice is great. Dining in can be a little understaffed and service may be a little slow during busy days, but the service you do receive is far from poor. Perhaps hiring some additional help would be a good idea though. I would recommend anybody in the area to try it out, i highly recommend the Sweet and Sour chicken, and General Tao's chicken (spicy version). read more

That is until yesterday. I had a craving for ABC. So I ordered from Kim Toa..my go to for Almond Boneless Chicken. The gravy is usual perfect..chicken cooked very well. Well yesterday, the gravy tasted like water and oil..the chicken was dry and stringy. Very sad and disappointed. Will try again..but I'm very sad for my experience. Because up until then, it had been stellar! However the soup was delicious..very flavorful with very fresh chicken and veggies. And as I was just finishing my leftovers (because I hate waste) I just found a staple in my chicken. Nope. Done..forget everything I said. Won't be back. I ordered food for my whole family and not one of us could eat the food. The almond boneless chicken gravy was SUPER SALTY tasting to the point it was inedible. Their beef pad thai tasted like it was really old. I ordered the 3 patties chicken egg foo young but instead I got shrimp which I don't ever order because no one in my family likes it. When I placed the order the person on the phone even repeated my order back to me and said chicken egg foo young so where did the shrimp come from?? The sweet & sour chicken didn'nt taste like it should either. I ordered 4 egg rolls and they even tasted freeze dried. What the heck is going on here? She asked for my phone number and she was not probably familiar of the 734 area code and she states "what number are you inventing"... i was like what? I asked how much will i pay - she hanged up on me. So i went to the "restaurant", i asked if she was the lady who was getting orders she said "you sounded like a little kid"... then i said why did you hang up on me she answered "i dont know i think there was something wrong with the phone, i cannot understand you". She was making up excuses. Then she brought out my order, she only got me the beef broccoli, i said where is the almond chicken she said did you order that, i did not hear you. She made me look like a liar too. chinese food is one of my favorite and i am new around the area and i swear i will never go back to this place. i have never been treated like this when i call in for my order. Went out to smoke and I was approached my 2 different people asking for money. Went back in and sat down so they didn't follow me in. Dude brought my food out. Paid and left. When I got home I popped open the carry out and I was impressed with the amount of real chicken and rice! Sauce was ok, rice was great!
