this is a long review, only because I really liked Kim's prior to my last few visits. I've had my nails done at Kim's Nails in Shakopee, for the past 3 years or so. But lately, it's been hit or miss with the way I feel about that salon. When I first started going there, it was clean, neat and comfortable. However, in the last year, this salon has gone down hill rapidly. The conditions there have become VERY dirty and disorganized. I'm sad because it used to be such a nice salon, and close to home. I've had my nails done by My (she's the manager), her husband Daniel (very detailed oriented and cares about his work), and another gal who is very good. A couple of reasons for this review; let me start off by saying I don't get the fancy designer nails; I get fills and color, and every once in a while I'll get them removed and start over with a fresh full set. From start to finish the whole process is maybe 40 minutes, with a full set being a little longer. My recent visit they weren't overly busy, and was told to take a seat and it would be about a 10 minute wait. That was fine. There was one other client waiting. After about 20 minutes, the manager My, asked me to take a seat at one of the nail stations. I was expecting one of the techs to get to this station within a few minutes. I waited yet another 10 minutes. Yes, I could have left, but they make you feel like they'll be right with you. Finally, My came to the station looking flustered, again it was not busy. She asked what I wanted done. I told her the color number and what length to cut my nails. I felt like I was bothering her. She got up, and didn't return for several minutes. When she returned, she was on her phone on and off, and texting numerous times during my service. It would have been better to have been told in the very beginning there were no appts available. My nails were not done well, I had to mention a few times if she would do this or that. I typically never have to tell her what to do. Again, I get very simple nails, nothing difficult, I just want them to look nice. About half thru my nail service, 2 young gals came in with very long nails and wanted new polish, fancy designs and gems, one of the gals sat next to me. My's attention turned to them, talking, explaining and getting their information about what they wanted done. I thought, 'hey you're my nail tech, let the gal who is doing their nails handle it.' Yes, she is the manager, but you need to trust the people you hire to do their job and not take your attention away from your client. So between that and My talking and texting on her phone, my nail service was less than good and I was there for over an hour and a half. Very disappointing. And I don't agree with them speaking Vietnamese while they're giving service, it's very uncomfortable and rude for the client. My and her techs speak very good English. There is a time and place, like when they're alone with family or with the other tech's who speak that language, that would be appropriate. It's really too bad because it's not the quality salon it once was, I'll be looking for another salon. read more
