    Beef ribs
    Art J.

Well this is an authentic hole in the wall restaurant my neighborhood friend treated me out. I like the fact that they had beef ribs which is hard to find and they cooked it right it wasn't dry because most people say beef ribs is dry this one wasn't dry. I need to come back with the Tacos Carnitas and the lamb ribs too which I never knew existed. Service was ok it's whole in the wall. In regards to what I ordered the lamb was moist and delicious and as I said it wasn't dry the beans was good and compliments the tortillas they gave I think it was corn tortillas and soft shell was hot in the beginning temperature wise but good I never thought I'd be piping hot when they serve it. As for the ambiance what do you expect from hole in the wall I mean there's no fancy loin cloths you pay at the end almost like the informal cafeteria style but when you're on a budget and you got nothing else to eat this is better than nothing. I wouldn't come back when I'm in the mood for hole in the wall food. It's also next to Park packing company that sells fresh meat versus going to your overrated grocery stores for me. It's very cold when you go inside like a freezer so be careful with park packaging next door which I should make a separate Yelp review.

You won't find a well well designed interior, nor cloth napkins with incredible table side service. What you will find is fantastic food, in what feels like an factory cafeteria. The restaurant is part of, Park (meat) Packing, next door. The menu is mainly pork, with several other options available. The specialty is the carnitas, and when you bite into your taco you will understand that perfected their craft. It's one of those things where you kind of nod to yourself and say, 'Yeah....' The ribs are a steal about $6 for a small slab. The prices here are hard to beat, you can easily feed a family for $20. Monday and Tuesday certain tacos are on sale for $0.99 Get in here, loosen your pants a little , stuff your kisser, and delight your your tastebuds without having to lighten your wallet. Dig in, and enjoy #ghostlygourmet

We have been coming here for a few years and they never fail. The carnitas are delicious! You can ask for them by the pound or as a taco dinner. They have so much more to choose from, their menu has a little bit of everything for everyone even the picky peeps. I highly recommend, you won't leave disappointed

I visited this Portillo's on Canal and Taylor after stopping at the Chicago Central Carrier Annex…read morePost Office, then headed toward the west side of Chicago. I am always ready to visit Portillo's, so I keep my birthday gift card that was given to me handy. This location's brick design reminds me a lot of the Niles, Illinois, restaurant where I had my very first Portillo's experience--and little did I know it would become one of my favorite places to eat in the city. Before I even entered the drive-thru, I already knew I wanted to order the plant-based garden dog. As a vegetarian, it makes me happy that Portillo's offers this item, which is a hot dog made with 100% plant-based protein and crafted for them by Field Roast. I have ordered it many times, and even purchased it at Whole Foods. It looks and tastes just like a real hot dog! After a very short wait in the drive-thru, I was headed toward the main window when an employee approached me with my order, and I was well on my way. A shout-out to the employees taking orders and working within the drive-thru area, who make the ordering process go so smoothly while at the same time enduring hot or cold temperatures. Thank you very much for your patience during my ordering experience; it is highly appreciated! Okay, the garden dog smelled wonderful after I unwrapped it to take pictures to share on Yelp. No matter how many garden dogs I have, my mouth still waters before I take my first bite. With each bite of this plant-based garden dog, poppy seeds fell from the bun! Anytime I eat one, my goal is to finish it without letting any toppings fall out--a skill I have mastered since it is a favorite of mine. Here is a tip! You must grip it from the top and open your mouth wide as you take a bite, or else you will get toppings everywhere, teehee. It is never a disappointment, no matter which location I order it from, whether it be Portillo's in Forest Park, Niles, Skokie, on Addison, or now Canal and Taylor! Need I say that I enjoyed my meal, as I clearly indicated in this review of this Portillo's on Canal and Taylor? Now that we are no longer strangers, I will more than likely visit again whenever I am in the area--most likely after leaving the Chicago Central Carrier Annex Post Office. ~ Stay fiercely focused. ~ Thomas G

They have switched to bigger buns, which are just too much bread. I thought it was lazy that they didn't even spread the sauce around at all. Upon arrival, there was a ten-minute wait. There was only one guy working the register, so it took awhile to get to the front. They should've had an employee walking the line and taking orders in an effort to speed things up. I ordered two single burgers and an order of fries. I opted to forgo the drinks and walked across the street to CVS where they had two 20-ounce sodas for $5. Why would you pay $3 for a can of soda when you could get more for less? The burgers were okay. They were definitely smaller than I anticipated. I had a burger a couple of weeks ago in the south loop at Mark Weather Tavern that was twice the size, tastier, and cheaper. It only cost $7 due to the happy hour special. My sister didn't like her burger so she ended up just picking at it. I liked mine but that's not saying much. I wouldn't go out of my way visit Small Cheval again nor would I recommend it to anyone. There are MUCH better burger options in the city. This place must be relying primarily on it's name recognition because $25 for two mediocre burgers and a small order of fries is insane. The fries were decent, but again, nothing spectacular. The location is obviously the selling point. Hyde Park is a beautiful area to sit outside and enjoy a burger. The inside of the restaurant is aesthetically pleasing and fairly spacious for the neighborhood. The patio has generous seating with plenty of shade. There are additional tables out in front of the restaurant as well. It was nice to finally try Small Cheval, but I doubt I'll return. The hype definitely isn't real.
