Khun 9 is a small hole in the wall Thai place that offers really good value. Because it seems their overhead is pretty low, they can offer very tasty and sizeable dishes. We thoroughly enjoyed their take out and have yet to dine-in. However there are only a few seats here, so the vast majority of orders we saw were take out as well. We ordered their pad thai and the pad see ew and both were delicious. Their menu is definitely no-frills and simple, which really hits the spot when you're looking for Thai food. I haven't eaten here in a while b/c orders were often cooked incorrectly. Once again, my order was screwed up. I SPECIFICALLY requested NO chicken, NO tomatoes in my tom yum soup and got BOTH! I don't know if the staff can't read, pretend they don't see requests, or don't care to cook food as customers request. But, multiple mistakes of the same thing tells me, the staff doesn't care. God forbid someone has food allergies and gets sick b/c a request isn't honored. It would be detrimental to this staff. I won't be back! read more

The Khao Soi was spicy and the beef was very dry/overcooked and fairly small portion of meat. I'm used to it having a thick egg noodle and more creamy base but this has a thinner noodle and more oil based than the other places I've tried. The Yellow Curry with shrimp was average and decent with the sides. Overall would probably skip this place and try somewhere else but it wasn't bad and the food was packaged well read more

Today I tried the Kra Pow for my first time and also ordered a Pad Thai and Satay. Before I individually rate the food, I would like to say that the atmosphere was very small. The restaurant was very tight, but when greeted inside it felt very authentic and comforting to me because I could hear the staff discussions as we are waiting like when you are at home. I also loved how respectful and sweet the staff were. If you are the type of person to enjoy restaurants with little space but feels authentic, then this is for you. Firstly, recieved the Kra Pow and it tasted very soft and the meat was very fresh. Sadly, I wasn't a fan of it. But it is my first time trying so maybe it just wasn't to my liking. I tried so many Pad Thai restaurants and the Pad Thai didn't taste anything outstanding or different. But however, I did enjoy the satay. Of all the Satay I have tried so far, I loved how flavorful and tangy the chicken was. But overall in terms of experiance, I would rate a 4 star! We have drove past this spot countless times and never stopped til last week and I'm thrilled we did!! The food is so good! It's a small Thai eatery but there are a couple tables to eat inside. You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. The employees are friendly and service is good. We've been 2x now in a week, we enjoyed our first experience so much! We have had the beef laab, Tom yum soup and papaya salad. Amazing both times!! Great neighborhood find! This is a small mom and pop restaurant with authentic Thai food with excellent prices and good portion sizes. Got the pad see ew with pork, fresh (salad) rolls with chicken, Thai tea, and panang curry with tofu. The curry was available as a combo that came with rice, salad and a fried wonton. i really liked how my noodles had an abundance of meat and Chinese broccoli. Their tap water is fruit infused which is a nice touch. Friendly service! There are only a handful of tables so I imagine they do a lot of takeout. What do you order when you're being lazy at home and don't want to cook but still need to eat something heartwarming? Khun 9 Thai should be on your list of places to hit up to get that fixing right away. My friend and I ordered two dinner specials and were happy with what we got. I ordered their Tofu Penang Curry which came with white rice, side salad, and a fried wonton. I wasn't able to have the wonton but the curry itself was good (although it's hard to mess up coconut milk & curry paste). It definitely had a kick to it and I did ask for spicy, so I was happy it turned out that way. You don't normally find good dinner boxed sets at most restaurants anymore so it's a nice change of pace to see one being offered, especially at a Thai restaurant of all places. I recently dropped by here for lunch with several coworkers and was surprised there was a Thai restaurant in such a unique area. You can tell that this is a family-operated joint and that they all work as hard as possible to take care of you and make sure you are content. I ordered Thai Tea and Boat Noodle Soup with medium spice. I know, I know, with the current heatwave going on, why would I order spicy soup? Nonetheless, this is what I ordered. The Thai Tea was oddly, really sugary, more so than I have had. The Boat Noodle Soup was okay, despite ordering medium spice, I tasted none. It really lacked flavor compared to other Boat Noodle Soups I have had. One thing that I do have to caution you about is parking can be really bad here. We have been on the lookout for a great Thai restaurant in the South Bay. Our long time favorite Talesai in West Hollywood has been gone for many years, and so has our desire to drive that far. I read the reviews of fellow Yelpers on Khun 9 Thai Kitchen in Torrance, and our search is over. It is a tiny family run restaurant with four tables, but with much more than the usual common Thai dishes. I did take out, and had a Thai flavor experience. Every dish tasted so fresh with its ingredients. Khao Soi Gai, a complex noodle soup which is very difficult to find in LA was bursting with flavor. Chicken Satay is a standard I use to evaluate Thai food kind of like the Tamago at a Japanese sushi restaurant. It had a delectably light peanut sauce and juicy chicken. Their Som Tom green papaya salad was another flavor bomb with fresh shrimp and some spices I could not figure out. The Moo Pa Pad Ped with pork belly and curry paste over rice was terrific. In many of their dishes, you can have a choice of chicken, pork, shrimp or beef. Also unlike a few stalwart places, you can select your level of Heat. I enjoy a hot dish, but not one that makes you uncomfortable to enjoy the taste of the other ingredients while sweating it out. The medium and mild were good for this first try. The medium was deliciously hot and had a lasting heat and tingliness like Szechuan peppercorns. The prices were very reasonable with large generous portions. I recently was feeling under the weather and really wanted some warm soup to help get through my small cold :(. The perfect soup to help to me get through this sad day came via Kuhn 9's Tom Yum Soup. Khun 9 has an awesome Tom Yum Soup and a large size is only $12. One can choose spice level along with protein. I chose mild and chicken. For a mild spice; I still had the perfect spice needed. The soup was very flavorful! It has lots of tender chicken along with plenty of mushrooms. There were also some slices of tomato. I loved the overall sour flavor. Aside from the Tom Yum Soup; I also got a Green Curry Chicken. An a la carte was $13 and I got a side of rice for $2. Similarly the Green Curry was excellent! I also got it mild but still had a slight spice; which I enjoyed. The curry sauce itself was quite tasty and went well with the white rice. Khun 9's food is solid in taste! I love how you can pick the spice level and cater it to how you would like. I am definitely a fan and need to visit here more often :). read more

Some dishes have additional cost of $2-4 if getting beef, shrimp or mixed seafood. 1. House rolls: Thin crispy spring rolls. Pretty good. Prefer the wontons. 2. Fried wontons: best fried wonton in the area 3. Ka-na moo krob: The flavor is good but the meat is too tough and chewy. 4. Ka-pow with pork with Thai level spicy: I like spicy and this was spicy enough. Good overall dish. 5. Thai fried rice: More savory and sweet compared to some places but good, 6. Pad see ew with chicken: Didn't get beef as I normally would do to the extra cost but it's still good. Savory and flavorful 7. Panang curry Thai level spicy: The flavor itself is a little bit weak. I ordered uber eats here last week. I got padthai with chicken and massamun curry. I was shocked to see that the curry doesnt come with at least chicken or tofu without paying for some additional cost. The food is good as always. I like their padthai because it's on the saucy side and the noodles are really soft. I also like their curries that it's thick in coconut milk and lots of spice. My "Pad Ka Pow" was great and they used the real thai holy basil which is like in Thailand and it very hard to find a place like this because most places around here they use sweet basil which is taste very different. The place was pretty small but convenient. The staff were very friendly and polite she had a great customer service. The parking lot was pretty small but it wasn't too bad to get the spot. read more

I ordered the green curry here, and extra rice, because usually I don't receive enough rice for my meal. This was not necessary here, as they did serve enough rice with the delicious green curry here. The lunch portion looked small when it arrived, but actually was the right amount for lunch and I must have been fooled by the small tall bowl shape. Service was curt and professional, not friendly or unfriendly, probably due to language barrier. This interior is casual and not a fit for a family dinner, but easy for a small casual group of 2-4 people. The flavors of the green curry were developed and overall this was a tasty lunch. Although this is mostly a takeout place with a handful of small tables, the flavors here suggest I could go here again and find other delicious dishes. I always used to get the Green curry and it was delicious but this time around it lacked flavor and spice. The curry was basically water. Favorite Thai restaurant in the area! They hold a special place in my heart for being good people. My brother got into an accident on the street in front of the restaurant, helped him out when bleeding out and after that, we've been regular patrons since. A part of me felt weird feeling like I owed them something to eat here but their food is sooo good! Good people and good food?! It's a win! As an Asian vegetarian, they have tofu options which is great and are on point with the spice levels The family can get whichever meat options and have a variety of dishes to choose from. Their picks have been, pad see ew, pad thai, tom kha udon and the spicy eggplant. Parking is in the back or on the street, keep an eye out as they have clearly marked signs on where to park. Now because I love this place, I do want to share with the restaurant to be careful of what's going into curries. Found a piece of a plastic corner bag that made its way into my bowl. Had to stop for lunch while working in the area. Decided to try it. First time here. Here are the PROs:Staff was super nice! Place is very clean and aesthetically pleasing. Cons:Prices are a bit high for quality. I eat ALOT of Thai food. Rice was over cooked, pad Thai didn't have any flavor and noodles were over cooked. They seemed a bit slow, and I know COVID may be to blame for a drop in quality. Thai iced tea tastes good like a Thai iced tea should. Honestly, probably not even going to finish half of the meal. Wish it was a bit better. Overall, 2 1/2 out of 5 stars. Would give them another chance but I'm not from the area so probably won't get opportunity too. Nice staff though! read more
