I am struggling between rating this 3 vs 4 stars. I will say my real rating is 3.5 stars, but I will give them 4 since Yelp still doesn't allow half stars. Overall verdict: give them a try. I assume we will be back. We love HuHot and have been disappointed that there's no HuHot anywhere in the Twin Cities. I found this place and thought it would be a good alternative. I was correct! While I wouldn't say it's better than HuHot, they do some things better. Such as gloves when you are picking your items from the buffet, and free chips and salsa (the salsa is awesome). However, I was nervous to come here due to some of the other reviews, and while I don't agree with all of the negative ones, some of them are correct. The free white rice is incredibly mushy and soggy. I didn't really like it. The pasta itself did end up a bit soggy compared to HuHot, but I still enjoyed it. I do wish they had a few more sauce options and recipes. The flavor was pretty good, but I do sort of agree with some other reviews that I wish there was more flavor. I would encourage you to use more sauce than you think. I also agree that the atmosphere feels slightly dirty/old. The whole place could use a very deep cleaning or remodel. I'm also very upset that they are passing the credit card fee on to customers. That actually gives me pause about potentially not going back more than anything else. However, I did enjoy my meal. So I would guess that we will be back. But due to the credit card processing fee, lack of sauces, and a feeling of uncleanliness, we won't be rushing back anytime soon. read more

Thinking about it, I haven't been here for about 20 years. The last time I was here was when I was in college. It was a nostalgic experience. This place is pretty straight forward. You either choose one bowl ($25) or the unlimited option ($29). Your table will be automatically served wontons crisps and salsa. There are extra menu items you can order beyond the bowl - such as appetizers. You fill the bowl up with as much ingredients you can fit into that sucker and then bring it over to the chefs and they will cook it for you. As I began to fill my bowl, all the memories and techniques I learned came flooding back. Add your protein first. I choose beef and positioned the meat around the outside of my bowl so I could fit more items in it - give that a try. Add in whatever other proteins, veggies, and sauces you'd like and top off with the noodles. I added the dragon sauce to my dish and it was tasty, but I'm warning all my MN locals - beware the dragon sauce. I can handle a little heat, but the two scoops of that sauce had me sweating. I remember how this place used to be THE date night location for couples when I went to college a few miles away years ago. I never took any dates here but I always heard good things. So when my family was looking for a place to eat that offered a Mongolian grill experience, of course this place came up as an option to finally try. First impressions when pulling into the parking lot, I really need to spend some money to work on the outside of the building. It is literally falling apart in many places. Walking inside, you get the impression that the whole aesthetic is worn out. Everything could use an update and fresh coat of paint. Service wise, it was fast and friendly. This place is mainly known for it's all you can eat Mongolian grill. The buffet offered lots of different options to make a variety of dishes to suit your tastes. I wouldn't say that any of the ingredients were high quality things were at least fresh and clean. It was just okay for me. As a first-timer, I found the buffet-style setup a bit confusing. When I got to the sauce section, I really wasn't sure what to do. Despite adding what felt like a lot of sauce, I was surprised by how bland my food tasted. What stood out most, though, was that the restaurant felt dirty. I understand that with a buffet-style setup, spills happen--but the overall unclean environment definitely took away from the experience and made it a 3-star visit for me. Khan's is fine, as all-you-can-eat Asian food goes. It's Mongolian BBQ, which is basically where you choose from a variety of raw meats, veggies, and noodles, and you take it up to the grill where they cook it for you. The ingredients have always been fresh whenever I've gone, but the thing that keeps this from being really good for me is that no matter how much sauce from the sauce bar I put on, it never feels flavorful enough? They have just the one standard mongolian sauce up there, plus some additions like vinegars, oils, garlic, etc., but their sauce base is just not flavorful enough to me so it's basically impossible to get a really flavorful plate without it being completely soggy. That being said, I am a big fan of the mongolian chips and salsa that come free with your meal if you're doing the BYO bowl! The salsa is sweet in a way that I love and the chips are wonton chips. I think if they could offer some more sauce options or bring the price down, I could see it being more worth it, but you can do BYO bowls with comparable or slightly better sauce options at several Chinese buffets in the area for cheaper and with more added variety included in their AYCE. read more

This place was recommended to myself and a few co-workers by a couple of the sheriff deputies at the jail we were working at in downtown Minneapolis. We went there doing the lunch hour and this place was busy. But it is a buffet style restaurant but you could also order a few items off the menu. Which is what we ended up doing. I ended up getting the spicy wings and plane wings. They also provided us with some wonton chips with a sweet and spicy chili sauce. Those were absolutely delicious. The young man who served us was awesome. He didn't hover but he was attentive enough to make sure that we had what we needed. The places is definitely a bit rundown or outdated and the tables were sticky. Although there was a wide selection of protein and veggies, I found the sauce selection to be limited and confusing/mislabeled. You don't go to Khan's for authentic Asian food; you go because you're hungry and want something decent to fill you up. If you've never been to this type of restaurant, you fill a bowl from a buffet of raw meats, veggies, and noodles, and then mix in your choices from about a dozen types of sauces. You then hand it to the cooks who pour it all onto a large round steel grill to stir fry it all. It's really good because you got to decide how it should taste. There is an all you can eat option where you can make multiple trips to the buffet, but if you master the art of piling your bowl high, the one trip option is plenty of food and cheaper. They start you off with complimentary Asian-style salsa and fried wonton chips. The salsa is really good. There are also some appetizer options. Don't miss out on the Chicken Wings, which are smoked rather than battered and fried. There are some dessert options, but you probably won't have room. The drink list is pretty creative and execution is pretty good. I don't think there was a lot of alcohol in my drink, but it was very tasty. Walking into this place it's decor igas lots of red colors and art and gongs. I never been to mongolia so I can't tell you if the decor is correct. The place smells great due to the food getting cooked in the open near the giant gong. The food bar was surprisingly clean and well organized. There was anything from beef to shrimp.. they even had vegetables and diffrent types of noodles. Overall a good selection you can do an all you can eat for like 23$ but you can't take the left overs home or a bowl for 21$ it was not a big difference but you can take the leftover home. If you layer your bowl properly you can fit more than enough to feed a hungry tribe in it. The food cooks within 5 to 10 minutes depending on how much meat you get. Pro tip. Open the meat up so it layers easier.. fill bowl at least about 1/4 way with sauces to avoid it being too dry. Also use the thinner noodles because they hold the sauce better than the thick bigger ones. The food is nothing spectacular but I'm not a big fan of the frozen beef and products that are paler thin. If you find meats that are not rock hard and thawed out because they don't turn out as rubbery when cooked. The staff was all very nice and professional. They were willing to help where they can and made sure everything was as we wanted.. while there we did not feel rushed and our server made us feel at home. We tried Khan's Mongolian Barbeque in hopes it would match our favorite Genghis Kahn Mongolian BBQ back in Concord CA. It came close. This was more of a 3.5. First, the single bowl price of $22.95 is much higher than the $18.95 on this site's menu photo. The all you can eat was like $3-$4 more. Considering the size of the bowl you get to put your protein (freeze dried meats), there's not much room for your veggies and noodles. But in the end, it was a decent oval plate of food. You have your choice of beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, tofu, lamb, imitation crab, tilapia, but there was no calamari. The veggie choices were plentiful and good. I especially liked the snow peas pods. You have three choices of noodles: lo mein, thin rice noodles, and pad Thai rice noodles. I have to say I was suspicious of the lo mein noodles; they were white. What Asian eats white lo mein noodles. They were not the yellow egg noodles I'm used to and taste. But when cooked, they weren't bad. The sauces from mild to extra hot were not bad plus the selection of optional sauces (extra garlic, curry,teriyaki, lobster sauce, black bean and peanut sauce) but they were all very watery. I put a lot of spice, garlic and teriyaki sauce on my bowl because you'll need it for taste. A glass of soda is $3 each but free refills. We got a plate of fried won ton and a dipping sauce of their signature Mongolian sauce (ok taste) along with a scoop of white rice. Would we go back? Maybe, if we have the big urge for Mongolian bbq. The single price for such a small bowl is my apprehension; it's $8 more than what we paid at Genghis Kahn in CA. Eating out is just so expensive here. read more

It is vegetarian friendly and they have all the veggies you could want. So Khan's Mongolian BBQ is buffet style, but they do have appetizers that you can order aside from the buffet. You pick your cold items, your meat, noodles, veggie, spices, sauce and take it to the back and have the guys in the back cook it stirfry style for you. The place gets SUPER packed around dinner time, standing room only, and ppl come ready to eat. Customer Service: The host was pleasant and so was my server. Actually, my server was very pleasant and hospitable. The guys who cook the food seemed stand-offish and not as pleasant. Ambiance: It's pretty worn down there. Gives hole in the wall type vibe. The seats are worn out and have seen a lot of butts apparently lol. It's basically a lot of booths and the buffet in the center of the restaurant. Food: I definitely enjoyed my food. My ONLY problem was as I drank my drink, I found someone else was getting drunk of my beverage too. LOL There was a HUGE fruit fly inside of my drink. Came here at the recommendation of a lot of people. Not knowing Roseville I thought it would be fun to meet one of our partners here for lunch. For those who haven't grown up with Mongolian BBQ it's pretty simple. For 13.99 you get one bowl or four 17.99 unlimited trips. It's essentially a meat and veggie lovers paradise in which you pick what you want, put in the bowl and watch guys cook it on an Asian wok. They have sauces and flavors you add and they even have gluten free so I could eat here while on whole 30 I just couldn't have the fun add one like chips or noodles. We used to go to the Coon Rapids location pretty regularly until it became one of the countless car washes in Coon Rapids lol! We heard about this location after Coon Rapids closed, and finally decided to try it. It was just like Coon Rapids! Delicious food, friendly and helpful staff! I'm not saying it isn't worth it, I just wish that it was priced that we could go here on a more regular basis and support a small business without breaking the bank. If you love spicy food this is a great place to go. At khans you get to spice up your food as much or as little as you would like. Ambiance: this restaurant has mostly table seating with a few bars, they have group areas and big tables as well. They also have a full bar. The food is build your own bowl so in the middle is a food bar and sauce bar. Service: the service here tonight was awesome. It really depends on the day but usually it's good. Food: first they bring a ginger cabbage and carrot salad and wonton chips and Asian salsa (sweet and sour salsa) to the table to start. They also have other appetizers that you can order. Then you go up as you feel and get a bowl where you can put different types of meats, noodles, veggies and sauces on your food. You then bring it to the cooks to cook it on a big round table top grill. They also give you white rice and sugar buns on your table. I love that I can make my food very spicy the way I like it as well as put whatever I want in it. The food is usually all you can eat. During the day they have certain hours that are happy dinner where you can get one bowl for cheaper. I really like this place. It is my go-to restaurant for when I want to eat way, way, way too much. I order the unlimited dinner deal, and I usually get three different entrees. Your entree comes to pass when you fill a bowl with noodles, protein, veggies, and sauce from the buffet, then have the cooks grill it up for you. So, it's very customizable; particularly the sauces. There's a wall sign with recommendations about different combinations of sauce ingredients based on spiciness preference, but it's easy to get creative. "Spicy" can get very, very spicy. They also bring out some appetizers to every table, but I never need those. You do have a server, even though the server isn't good for much beyond drinks, and your bill. Bear in mind that although the word "buffet" is appropriate, everything there is meant to be grilled. The meat is raw and frozen, and although they try their best, it's a buffet, so all kinds of people are milling about getting pretty close to the food. (I'm kinda just like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.) They are good about keeping peanuts separate from everything, and there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. If you like combinations of pasta, meat, veggies, and flavor, and you're hungry, you should totally totally come here for some food. read more

Has seen better days. My girlfriend and I wanted to eat here a couple weeks ago. It was a relatively busy Saturday night. The restaurant has been around for years and it shows. Faded awnings, paint and art show their age on the outside. More so inside. Wall decorations have been damaged over time and simply covered up but not reapired. Attempts to cover things with paint are obvious. The service was good and we didn't wait long to get seated. We got placed in a back room next to a noisy party that had several kids running around making a mess. That's not the restaurant's fault but the fact that it looked like the mess would not be cleaned well made it contribute to the chaotic, dingy atmosphere. The real issue, besides the shabbiness of the interior and exterior decor, is the condition of the food "bar" buffet where people gather their ingredients to be cooked on the large, flat stove surfaces behind a counter. There are frozen meats and vegetables lined up next to each other under glass like a salad bar. Problem is, food bits, noodles, and who knows what, are everywhere! Bits of frozen, raw meats can fall into the trays next to them, vegetables and noodles litter the counter surface and carpet. Rugs around the food bar have crushed pieces of food ground into them. There are employees sweeping up but it's nowhere near enough to keep it clean. We were both sketched out enough by the condition of the buffet that we decide to leave. This is by far one of my favorite places to eat at have been a customer for years. Buffet style so you put only what you want on it and then they cook it. Only thing I wish the kitchen was cleaner or updated. Cooks use old chopsticks for multiple meals disregarding food contamination. Although there are multiple chopsticks they get stained and look unclean. The service is good you can either eat in or take it to go which is what I do often.
